    Good mooning
    Jack P.

Good food, but the hash browns need be to cooked. Waiter thinks his head so big he can put the order in without writing it down. (He forgot to put my note for extra crispy hash browns.) I had the loaded greens skillet and it was really delicious. It's a shame I can't stand raw and gritty potatoes in my mouth alongside it. My drink was good, really, really good. I had the good mooning. Definitely recommend. The atmosphere is weird, but something to note about, even if it is an absurd lateral move to a Texas roadhouse peanut room. The vibes feel like how a middleschooler would visualize a brunch place that highschoolers might frequent. By that I mean it feels like it is trying to be cool in a way that is slightly unpleasant and forced.

Overpriced, greasy and bland breakfast items with tacky names and tackier decor. Service is okay, but overall there is nothing that makes me want to go back. Much better breakfast spots in the area.

Vibe 10/10 Food was well seasoned, good portions, service was fantastic. Wife ordered a Bloody Mary and did not like it. They replaced it with a massive mimosa. The menu is fun, the server was friendly and was at the table the appropriate amount. The two drinks I had were amazing.

Second time here Would recommend. Restaurant is very fun decor with writing all of the walls. The menu has really fun names for the items. Service both times have been extraordinary very attentive wait staff. The food has been extremely good. Had breakfast both times and was not disappointed. My only critique is that the eggs could use a bit of salt but that's easily added at the table. The chicken and waffles were hot and sweet just as described. Would not order a side of bacon. Wasn't worth it. You're allowed to make substitutions which is good for picky eaters Prices are fair. Overall very good restaurant. Can't wait to go again.

Such a fun vibe! We had a short wait on a Sunday morning (15-20 mins after arriving). Service was fast and friendly. I had the Notorious BNG and asked for crispy bacon. The biscuits were fluffy, sausage gravy was flavorful, hashbrown were golden brown, and the bacon was perfectly crisp! Scrambled eggs were a little more done than I like, but I'm picky about eggs. Overall, a solid brunch choice!

Came to this location for breakfast and was seated right away. Nicer than the Overland Park location. Staff was super friendly too. Food was very good. Had the "everything is better in Denver" and the biscuit and gravy.

Service was a little slow but overall good. The pancakes were huge! Definitely enough to split. The skillets were very good and filling! And my friend had the gluten free pancake bc she has gluten allergy and loved it! Would definitely recommend!

Huge restaurant and thank goodness because they do a big business (at least on Saturdays at 10:30!). We got there at 8:50 with 5 of us and were glad because we got right in, no wait. By the time we left, they had a sidewalk full of folks waiting! The service was pretty quick (they don't make a lot of convo at the table: they've got orders to put in!). And the food portions are... positively gargantuan. At our table, the Toot Toot was probably the most reasonable dish (fruit and waffle). The blueberry lemon curd pancake (order of 1) is the size of a UFO! The chicken and waffle was good with 2 eggs and super crispy hash browns. I have no idea how Brian finished it... "Why the French Hate Us" is a croissant egg sandwich smothered in peppery sausage gravy (it's extreme). My breakfast burrito was so big that HALF of it put me into a food coma, but it was also delicious! Steak, bacon, scrambled eggs, the fabulous crispy hash browns, queso, 2 kinds of salsa, and supposedly crushed Doritos on top (I didn't see them amongst the rest of the toppings). For a usual breakfast, Brian and I could SPLIT the other half.

We decided to come here for brunch. We had never been and oddly, this was the first this place popped up when I searched for brunch places. We added our name to the waiting list and was told we had about a 20-30 minute wait. We were 15 minutes away. Thebemail that our table was ready came about 5 minutes after I added our name. We were still driving. When we got there, we were told that we had to wait again because our table had been giving away. OK fine. We waited about 15 minutes and then saw people being seated that came in after us. So I inquired and was told that we were sent a text again. I never got a text. Then found out that others that were waiting never got a text either. We were then seated. Our waitstaff was nice. It was a 4.7 day(wink). I ordered the County f Fried Steak with over medium eggs. I feel like a lot people don't know what over medium means. The yolk is cooked a little and is also a little runny. It was all runny like over easy eggs. This happens at a lot of places. Hubs had the Make a Grown Man Cry burrito. It did not in fact make him cry. He said it was okay. He thought it would be bigger and more flavorful (insert that's what she said joke). The teen had a grilled cheese and fries. Yep, grilled cheese. The baby had over hard eggs and chicken sausage. She liked hers and ate all she could which was minimal because she's a baby. Hubs and I both ordered Belgium Waffles. They were super oily and tasted oily. Oily like when someone makes pancakes in a skillet with oil to get crispy edges. It tasted so oily that I couldn't eat more than 2 bites. Overall, the food was fresh but that Waffle needs some help. I recommend looking into the wait list system. There were a lot of people that didn't get emails for their tables. We may or may not come back. We'll see..

Service - so this was the first point of failure. Our waitress was attentive, but very loud. Additionally, she kept saying "perfect" to every response we had. Even the negative ones. I can't blame her, but some coaching is needed. Too many of our interactions were of the "hit and run" variety. She's programmed for certain questions and follow up, but doesn't really process the responses. Continuing on with the service, there were two of us, both ordering from the restaurant week menu. Well, one entree comes, not the app, nor the 2nd entree. This was delivered by what I assume was a manager (how he was dressed). No questioning about why he'd deliver one entree to a table with 2 people, so I had to ask about the rest and he was walking away. Again, a "hit and run" interaction. We did eventually get the app and other entree. Food - so we got the salmon dip app, two of the meatloaf burgers and the beignets dessert. The salmon dip was ok. Not especially flavorful, but not terrible. The pita with it was not good. It was overcooked as greasy tasting so it distracted from the dip. The burgers were mixed. I liked mine. It was flavorful, and juicy. My partner did not like hers. I chalk this up to personal preference, so would give this 4 stars on its own. The beignets. Wow, these were, in a word, awful. First, they were not as described as there was supposed to be some sort of fruit dip with it and it was missing. What we got was greasy blobs of cooked dough. These heavy, flavorless things were nothing like actual beignets. They were drizzled with this cheap chocolate syrup and this white, maybe vanilla stuff. This was a miss all around by this location. Hopefully a one off, but they've been around long enough that these issues should happen.

I have been a regular customer there for quite a while. When the franchise owned this location, the food was great, the location was extremely clean and efficient and most of the employees were very happy there. Since the buyback, the food has really done downhill. My orders, generally a simple breakfast, have consistently been incorrect. Over hard eggs come out runny, their famous cubed potatoes are consistently luke warm at best, order crispy bacon and out comes the opposite. I was informed by a few current employees that the new ownership has now cut back the hours of long-standing, formally happy, now disgruntled servers to 4 days a week. These workers are very upset and disgruntled. It's a much longer drive now but if I want a great breakfast with happy employees, I go to the Corner Cafe in Independence. Very sad situation indeed!!

I could describe every experience with this restaurant but I'll leave you with the previous few. And I know what you're thinking, if the food was so bad, why do you keep going back? Well, hope and optimism. Rooting for Roots! We want the local place to succeed, but we've come to the conclusion that what they really need in order to improve, is honest feedback. But part of me hopes that it changes nothing. And here's why... my wife and I love this place. But in a weird way... allow me to explain, imagine the place as a Saturday Night Live sketch where the staff, the menu and ambiance are unapologetically pretentious, but the food doesn't deliver on any level. It's pure entertainment. We have dinner and an inside joke. First of all, for the price, you naturally expect elevated dishes and excellent service. We both had a cocktail, a glass of wine with dinner, an appetizer, entrees, salad and desert. Around $250 with tip. Pricey, but reasonable if the place delivers. On one visit we had the duck, which was served undercooked and when we mentioned it to the waiter, she scoffed, "that's the way it's supposed to be served." So feeling duly chastised for our ignorance, we shut up and ate the duck. I don't know the organism involved, but my wife and I were up all night vying for access to the bathroom. Enough said. Things were dicey, but no trips to the hospital. Six months or so had passed and finally, last night we rolled the dice and tried Roots again. My wife said her dinner was fine. She had stuffed salmon, adequate, but not great. For me, It was between the steak and the pork belly. Now I had the steak before once and it was... well it was definitely a steak. I'm not going to say much about it except for this... if you like the taste of a good glass of water, order the steak. So having experienced the steak already, I ordered the pork belly, which is an extremely tasty and forgiving cut of meat in my experience. But somehow at Roots, they figured out how to prepare it poorly. Yikes! It was dry as a bone, but only in the places where it wasn't tough as shoe leather. It had to have sounded like a rock when it hit the plate. The naturally rich flavor was cooked completely out of it, and any surviving seasonings were successfully burned away during the cremation process. I was starving so I made a valiant effort at finishing it, but it took several glasses of water and an inordinate amount of chewing. My wife laughed at me the whole time. I offered her a bite but she demurred, quipping that it had been a long week and she simply didn't have the energy. It was served with a "slaw" that consisted primarily of a plain sliced onion and slices of flavorless apple devoid of seasoning or dressing. I honestly don't know how this dish made it out of the kitchen, let alone a chef's imagination. It has become a quest for my wife and me. Like the holy grail of dining experiences, only a few minutes from our home. Ever the optimists, we will just keep trying Roots again every six months or so and hope for better on each trip... or not. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, please try Roots. We want them to succeed so we can keep coming back and having these comically terrible experiences. If pretentious irony is your spirit animal, please try roots. And Roots, please keep trying. We will keep spending $250 bucks for "dinner" and a show. PS, to add to your experience, ask for a booth when you arrive for your reservation, they will look you up and down and politely say "no" as they walk you past 4 empty booths. No explanation...

I stopped in with my girlfriend Lisa, who loves this place so much they basically have a little corner reserved for her. She likes to work from there because the Wi-Fi is good, the vibe is comfortable, and the food is consistently amazing. We sat at the bar, had a couple glasses of wine, and Austin took great care of us. Lisa had the steak special, which was the ribeye, and I had the salmon. Both were really, really great. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was exactly why I keep coming back. One small callout: there was a $3 difference between what the salmon was listed for on the menu and what I was charged. I let Austin know so they could catch it for future guests. It did not change my overall experience, but I appreciated being able to mention it. Brandon, one of the co-owners, is amazing. He came out and spoke with us, and that personal touch is part of what makes Roots feel special. You can tell they care about the food, the service, and the people who come in. Their happy hour is amazing, and their seasonal menu changes are superb. I love coming in and trying different things. The salmon tacos are delicious, the birria fries are a must, and I always look forward to seeing what new crostini they are featuring since those change every few months. Roots is consistent without being boring. Great food, great service, great drinks, and a menu that keeps giving you a reason to come back. Can't wait to come back. See y'all next week.
