Have been here a couple of times and am finally getting around to leaving a review. Most recent time here, I brought my wife and our daughters. We got each girl a muffin and my wife and I each got a breakfast quesadilla. The muffins looked great, and the guy at the counter even added in some whipped cream. The girls loved that! Our quesadillas were amazing! Great seasoning, the eggs in it are great, and they included green peppers, chips, and salsa on the side. The quesadillas are a bit greasy, but they are absolutely delicious. Service was great, no complaints there. We loved the atmosphere. They have an area where people can sit on a couch and there are toys for kids to play with. They also have a table of free books you can get (grabbed a couple of those). Overall, Equal Minded is a great coffee shop and we're lucky to have them in the community. Stop by for a visit soon! read more

I got an 'Herbal Defense' Tea for $3 plus tax since allergies have been killin me. Great cafe for breakfast, brunch & lunch. They also have open mics & events in the back. Going to a coffee shop, it's unusual to have an experience out of the ordinary. Equal Minded is anything but ordinary. The space was unique and the vibes were great. The staff was incredible and so friendly, but when I tell you this is the best coffee I've had in KC it's no lie. The Apple Butter Chai Latte is the best drink I've had in years. I love this place! I stopped in for my usual dirty chai on 3/6 & was delighted by how active it was. All of my other visits have been very chill but that particular Friday morning was a little different. I took my chai to a table in the corner & set up my laptop, happy for the free WiFi as my office nearby had no power due to storms. The shop was so wonderfully activated. There were a couple other loners like me working, but also a family with a young child, a couple of ladies catching up over coffee, a couple of college-age gals relaxing on the couch & using the trivia cards while they enjoyed their drinks. Then 2 different groups of 5-6 young men wandered in. One made his way to the piano & played for quite some time. It was so nice! In addition, there was a social hour happening in the back, & another group was setting up for an event later that evening. It was so great to see this place so busy on an otherwise gloomy day. I don't like the fact that you have been deleting comments on people's actual experience. What he is doing for the community is great but this day in particular was so off putting and uncalled for. Literally had my friend stuttering out of fear because you're yelling telling her to get out (THE TRUTH) I want to say I'm truly sorry that you're sick, and I hope you recover quickly. But that doesn't excuse the way this situation has been handled, and honestly, it's very disappointing to see. We're not here to tarnish your name or your business. We understand that people have bad days. However, it felt like that frustration was taken out on the wrong people, and there was no accountability afterward--that's the part that doesn't sit right. As a business owner, taking accountability matters. Instead of doing that, you chose to shift blame and play into sympathy, rather than acknowledging a customer's real experience. No one came in with bad intentions--we were actually excited to support your shop and give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience just wasn't good, and that's the truth. Calling it a "fake review" is unfair. It was an honest review based on what actually happened. This has nothing to do with race--we specifically chose to visit your shop because we wanted to support a Black-owned business. So please don't speak on things that aren't accurate. We only went to another café afterward because we were left unsatisfied with both the drinks and the treatment we received. Since then, my friend has also received multiple messages from others sharing similar experiences, which is concerning. At the end of the day, this could have been handled with accountability and professionalism, but instead it's been turned into something else. That's what makes this whole situation so disappointing. It was fine. We usually go to anchor island but thought we'd try something new. They were out of cold brew. Their breakfast sandwiches were pretty expensive at 14 dollars and were done. Not great. The space was a little run down and not put together. There was a lot of open, unused space where you couldn't sit labeled as an "event space". Not sure what event anyone would want to have there. The two coffees and two sandwiches were much more than we'd pay anywhere else other than an actual restaurant. It was 50 dollars. 59 dollars For two small coffee drinks and two croissant sandwiches. Fantastic experience at an event here - amazing vibes, decor and food! Equal Minded is a purpose-driven coffee shop and event space, with a large room in the back that community members can rent for affordable rates. The decor is eclectic and cozy, and staff and baristas are warm and welcoming. A lot of folks showed up for our event, so they ran out of some items and I ended up ordering a jalapeño reuben sandwich, which was savory and flavorful. Honestly, it seems like you can't go wrong with this menu. Cold brew with a splash of oat was solid. I was excited to see lots of vegan and vegetarian items on the menu and will be trying those when I return. Don't miss this warm and welcoming coffee shop! read more

Equal Minded Cafe is right in my neighborhood and has been one of my go to's since being in the area. I am a lover of all things coffee shop and equal minded never disappoints. Their chai, is absolutely the best I have had and I have never gotten a latte there I haven't absolutely loved. Their food and pastries are always good and fresh, and the vibes are always high. They have fun games, plants, plenty of seating, and overall just a chill atmosphere. This black owned coffee shop is in the heart of the city in a gentrifying neighborhood. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Even though it says coffee shop it's way more offering food items, smoothies, cold beverages and homemade teas. It's a place that makes you want to linger- play board games, read a book, watch tv or grab a window seat and people watch. I ordered a caramel latte with oat milk and it was delicious. My sister is not a coffee drinker and she had an in-house made chai. She loved it. In the back is an event space that is affordably priced by the hour. It even has a garage door that opens into a green space. It's a neighborhood gem that is worth trying. I'll be back for lunch. read more

We loved this spot! We wanted to come in for a small breakfast and a coffee on a Sunday morning; we wanted to support a business that's doing a lot for the community and in line with our values! It's a gorgeous space with lots of room to social distance. The cold brew was one of the best I've had in KC. The food was good too. It did take us almost 35 minutes to get an avocado toast, a Chunky Monkey toast and two cold brews. Why? With one person working with what appeared to be one toaster, the orders got backed up quickly with just a few people in the cafe. Simple and delicious is what I think of when it comes to this place. I come here during the week for lunch, and am never disappointed. Their smoothies alone can be a meal, but their panini sandwiches are just as filling and good. It's not a huge variety when it comes to entrees outside of sandwiches, but they offer daily soups as well. The indoor area is very clean and spacious; they also offer outdoor seating. The artwork and decor inside are conversation starters alone. I've always done my best to support locally owned businesses and since the BLM movement, I have also tried to put my $ where my mask is and also support black-owned businesses when possible. I learned this morning that it was Blackout Day 2020; a day too promote and recognize the need for capital to stay in and flow too the black community. I looked through the Yelp collection of black owned businesses and decided to finally visit Equal Minded Cafe - it's been on my list for a couple of years and sad to say I had not visited. I'm very glad I did today. The space is large and welcoming as was the barista and the owner. It breathes positive energy with it's displays of art, activism, and local flavor. My avocado toast on sourdough was creamy and crunchy and the iced latte was refreshing and large enough to keep me seated and enjoying the space for a nice respite before work. I was actually kind of hoping a letter writing campaign or a food-drive would spontaneously break-out, it's that kind of a positive energy that I was feeling! It's awesome to see such a wonderful space reinvigorating the rebirth of Troost Ave. I can't wait to go back. read more

Everything I have gotten is amazing! The Bacon & Cheddar Breakfast Bagel is one of my favorites. I also love the Turkey Havarti so much that I was half way through with it before I noticed it came with tomatoes. Normally I don't eat tomato on a sandwich but it's so good!!!
