Run don't walk for these cinnamon rolls! Hands down the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Somehow they have perfected this recipe so that the outside is more croissant like and not the typical dry, over baked edges you find at most bakeries. The inside of the roll is and exquisite melt in your mouth combo of butter cinnamon and sugar. The generous dollop of cream cheese frosting ties it all together perfectly. Seriously treat yourself to this decadent treat and thank me later. Coffee is excellent as well and you can see the roasting facilities! Sway was a true delight! The shop presents a cozy, inviting ambiance with great coffee. The staff I encountered were all friendly and kind. They have good mix of comfortable seating. I noticed they added seating towards the back, which opens the space a bit. This would be a great place to work or chat with people. I tried the cinnamon roll affogato, pour overs of the Columbia and Ethiopian blend, as well as the bourbon caramel latte. I enjoyed the smoothness and aromatics of all the coffee drinks. The cinnamon roll avogato was a unique menu item of a fresh cinnamon roll with espresso poured over it. It was a rainy morning when I waltzed into Sway Coffee for a meeting, and to get some work done. First of all, there is something about the combination of a rainy day and coffee that just always works, so I was in a great mood to sample some new flavors that day. Honestly I loved everything about this place. The ambiance is coffee shop chic, but with some warmth added in. I felt very at home finding a small table to plug my laptop in and get some work done. I'll add that it was busy, but there were a few spots open for the taking. I think it's probably good to get here during an off time if you want to for sure snag a table to yourself. I also love the location. This little strip of 43rd street can often feel somewhat neglected so I'm grateful that they are adding in some local flavor here, and providing a great meet up spot for the folks that live right along here. Now to the coffee - it was fantastic! I honestly loved it, and to me was worth the cost of getting coffee out these days. 10/10 no notes. I'll be back. read more

This is a super aesthetic coffee shop! There are tons of seating available if you wanted to sit and get a bit of work done. The only caveat is that the seats are a little uncomfortable for long work/study sessions and there is limited parking. There's a section where you can watch the employees roast the coffee. It was super interesting to watch and smelled amazing as they did! I got a simple hazelnut latte. There wasn't much of a wait even though only one barista was making all the orders. The coffee and aroma were really nice. I prefer my lattes to be a bit sweeter, so I had to add another sugar packet. read more

This is a one of the successful coffee shop in KC I've been to. Once stepping in the shop, I can identify it has its unique culture. This is not easy to have a coffee shop forming its own culture and one unique vibe, composed by the customer and the staffs and the decors which cannot be 100% duplicate by other coffee shops if the location is not the same, the staffs are not the same and the type of the customer attracted by this cute place are not the same. It's cozy and laid back. Amazingly, even though lots of seated people, everyone respects each other and not talking super loud (or sometimes not even aware that they are loud) the material used for interior structure is not echo amplifier. So the music can be heard without effort. It reminds me of the coffee shop in New York and Boston, but with lots of great energy. I got the bacon and sausage quiche and matcha, I love that they can adjust the sweetness of Matcha! And the price point is worthy of their food and drink. I wish I found this place early, or it could have another one cultivate similar or another unique culture in my neighborhood. read more

I'm all about the Sway cold brew. I've had the pleasure of turning people onto this location. Sway is my first choice when it comes to coffee in KC! I can speak on their Ethiopian roast which I have bought for coffee lover for my family out of state and they loved it! The interior is pretty cool and calm, and well...small. That and the fact they close at 1pm is the downsides. At the time of this review (April 2024) I have been notified that there will be additions to expand the sitting room shortly...hopefully being complete June-July 2024. This will dramatically improve this location! Baristas are kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and wholesome. Truly lovely group of ladies. I enjoy seeing them to pick up a cold brew in the mornings. What a great find! I was not aware of Sway until I saw it listed on a Caffeine Crawl list of stops. The business is a bit out of the way but is still very convenient to find and get to on 43rd st between Rainbow and Mission. They are a roasting facility and a coffee house with a full menu of baked goods. They are owned by McClain's so you know the bakery items are top notch; as was my large cinnamon roll topped with cream cheese icing. My coffee choice was the Sumatra Pourover. Exquisite at $4.50. The dining area is sleek and open with several seating options and a visible roaster that was in operation as I dined in. A solid option for the Rosedale area with easy access from Westport to Fairway neighborhoods. read more

As a tea drinker, I'm picky about my coffee shops! Sway is unique in the sense that every drink I order feels like it's made with love. Some of my favorites are the matcha and the London fog (they actually let the tea steep!!!!). They also have oat milk cold foam which I've never seen it at a coffee shop before. Overall - the service is great (shoutout to Bailey who's always so patient while I decide what I want) and the ambiance is the perfect quiet vibe for a work day. This review is rough because when Sway first opened they were arguably one of the best coffee shops in the KC area. Since then, however, it's been downhill particularly over the last 12 months. The baristas are totally unconcerned with customer satisfaction, from the poorly made drinks or even attention to lines that form without them noticing. The roasted coffee, formerly a highlight, can't compete very well anymore. Overall, it's very disappointing but I can't see myself coming back again and I can't recommend it anymore. read more

I live in the neighborhood and drive down this street weekly. I had no idea this was a coffee shop. I saw the sway roasters sign and went to their website, but there was no mention of a café; it only mentioned coffee beans and merch for sale. Now they have a coffee sign on the corner of the building. And a friend of mine told me they came here for coffee, so I was excited to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered. The shop has a minimalistic Scandinavian aesthetic. The light wood, green plants, books and vases, and numerous various seating options make the space feel relaxed and calming, not cluttered. The cleverly designed space and quiet background music with two-top tables lend itself nicely to a quiet work spot, meeting spot, or a coffee date. The front café portion conceals the real purpose of this building - a coffee roasters! It's actually a massive building with warehouse space in the back that they use to roast their beans in-house. I've only had flavored lattes here. I'm guessing they use a light roast for their espresso because their 12oz lattes taste a little light and milky. I prefer more coffee taste, so I'll probably have to switch to the 8oz Lattes here to suit my tastes better. Or maybe try a pour over. Coffee shop prices have increased so dramatically that I usually feel ripped off now when I go to my favorite coffee shop. I've been avoiding other coffee in this area because an $8 latte is ridiculous. This shop is what I would consider to be normal coffee price range. A flavored latte will run around $5. The veggie quiche is by far the best I've ever tasted. It is light, airy, fluffy. I usually need ketchup to get through a quiche, but I inhaled this and loved every bite of it. Well, almost every bite. Though the quiche feels warm on the outside, the wide part at the back of the slice has still been cold inside both times I've ordered it, so I'll ask them to warm it longer next time. Love love love having more local coffee options around work, and Sway is a beautiful addition! The space is simple, goregous, and welcoming. Lots of natural light and some plants throughout to create welcoming space that's great for hanging out or getting work done while enjoying some awesome coffee and treats. You can also get a glimpse into the roasting process while sitting along the bar top. I'm a latte gal through and through, and sway has a mix of classic and seasonal flavors. Being a partner with McLain's, they have some overlap in flavors, my favorite being the bourbon caramel. However, the house speciality is a take on the honey, cinnamon, vanilla combo and is a solid choice. One of my favorites was a butternut caramel in the fall, it sounded unique and while uncertain about ordering, it was a decision well made. Basically you can't go wrong! The cinnamon rolls are stellar! I don't know that I could finish one by myself, because they are massive! The icing on top is aplenty. The quiche is also delicious. In addition, there are a few other pastry options available. Make sure to get a punch card -- buy nine drinks, get the 10th one free! Several parking spots in front and to the side of the building. My only "complaint" is that they aren't open a little later in the afternoon! I'd love to come get some work done here and enjoy an afternoon latte! read more

On a trip from out of town and this place did not disappoint. Parking was a little tricky and the place was packed so we were lucky to find a seat, but the Ethiopian pour over (kalita) was clean and amazing. Definitely recommend the cinnamon roll, but there were a lot of pastry options. You can watch as they were roasting beans, but while many places that roast have people who love talking about coffee, this guy wasn't having it. I'll chalk it up to maybe he wasn't having a great day, but that was definitely disappointing. Overall, highly recommended for the quality of coffee. read more

What a great coffee shop! I was out running errands and came across this place just as I was in need of some morning coffee. The space is airy and open with lots of tables to sit at, a spot with a couch and chairs and then some high top chairs as well. The staff was super kind and brought out my drink to me when it was finished. I had an Ethiopian pour over and the little setup for it that they had was so great.
