This was our first visit to The Evie, and it was by chance late on a Friday afternoon. We were looking for a quick, but nice, place to eat before taking the train home. We realized that it might be challenging to find a spot on a Friday night without a long wait. We were able to snag a reservation on Open Table, and cross the street - very convenient location on Michigan Avenue. We were greeted warmly, and we were asked if we would like a table by the window. We were delighted with this option, as the restaurant overlooks Michigan Avenue and has an amazing view. The interior is very pretty as well. The menu options were great - sandwiches, sushi and dinner entrees. Everything we had was delicious. The wait staff were charming and made our visit even more special by celebrating our family members' birthday with a very delicious scoop of caramel gelato. Our night 1 in Chicago we chose to eat dinner at The Evie. Such a great start to our week of eating our way through Chicago. Entering the dimly lit restaurant, we were greeted and welcomed by several server and manager employees as we were taken to our table. Denise was our server and greeted us within 1-2 minutes of being seated by the hostess. She was super friendly, attentive and conscientious throughout our meal. As we settled in and ordered a cocktail, I appreciated the dim lighting, ambiance and decor that gave off a sophisticated yet comfortable vibe. The restaurant was about 1/2 full with several tables of larger parties. Not bad for a Monday night. Food: we started with sharing a sushi roll, Crispy Jalapeño and hamachi roll (5/5). The roll was fresh, flavorful, super tight and expertly made. This was a great start. For entrees, I ordered the prime rib dip (5/5) and my wife ordered the crispy grouper fish sandwich (3/5). My French dip was perfectly constructed and the au jus had a deep rich flavor. My wife's crispy fish sandwich wasn't crispy for very long. Half of the sandwich was served deconstructed so you could appreciate the crunchy coating on the grouper. But once she placed the upper bun with the healthy layer of very overdressed Cole slaw, the crispy fish turned soggy. The kitchen should consider reducing the amount wet ingredients in the slaw and reduce the quantity of slaw by 75%. The crispy fish was perfect before the slaw ruined, what could have been, a great crispy fish sandwich. The French fries that accompanied both sandwiches were perfectly crispy and well seasoned. If Chicago didn't have sooo many great restaurants, we would probably come back to The Evie again, request Denise to be our server, and just eat sushi all night...the sushi rolls are that good. read more

There were 5 in our party and we were quickly seated at our reservation time. Server and all service was great! Menu is amazing - Loaded with so many options from handhelds made with fresh, house-made bread to sushi to steaks... Such an eclectic menu and everything we tried was perfectly executed! I'm not a fan of sushi, but I tried a few different rolls and loved them all... I loved one so much, I had several pieces of it! Their Chicago Dog is a must have! We actually got it sliced into a few pieces to share and that was the perfect amount to allow enjoyment of all the other items we ordered. We enjoyed a nice lunch at The Evie recently. Beautiful restaurant on Michigan Avenue. We selected the Corporate Lunch Special. I chose the petite wedge salad, with grilled salmon, while my daughter and boyfriend both had the poke bowl. The wedge salad was excellent... hard boiled eggs, bacon, tomatoes, bleu cheese, and delicious dressing. I found this place through a local friend. It has become my new go-to when I am in town. If you have ever been to a Houston's or a Hillstone, this place has the same vibe... Perfect lighting. Impeccable service. It is fancy without being pretentious. The staff are all very accommodating and very professional. The kitchen and sushi bar are open, so you can see the works of art coming out. Located on Michigan Ave, atop a building, the view is electric from the windows. The music is always the right volume. The lighting is just the right amount of dimly lit warm lights. We had a marvelous dinner out. We had 2 couples and were seated promptly at our reservation time. Our server- Blake was attentive and helpful with answering questions and making suggestions based on our preferences. We split 3 appetizers and they were all delicious. The spicy tuna roll was fresh and tasty, the cornbread was amazingly good (considering that it seems like a simple thing), and the warm bread with herb butter was a marvelous, almost-pretzel bread like loaf. Entrees were hot and delicious- we had steak, The Evie Classic burger, and The veggie burger with a side of mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms. Everything was presented well and had good flavor. Portion sizes were decent- not small, but not so large as to be too much. We also had a bottle of wine and mixed drinks including the Guava Girl (a lovely sweet, fruity drink) and the mocha martini. We ended with dessert split between all 4 of us (because we were quite full already). We opted for the Mascarpone Pound cake. We've had two trips to Chicago and both times we have eaten here, absolutely love it. It's fairly quiet at lunch and we love a good bar seating between shopping. The restaurant is from the same owners as Wildberry Cafe and it's located in the old Bandera space on Michigan Ave, so the location is great. The only challenge at first was getting in. The escalator was down and although there was an arrow, it was still confusing. We actually had to ask security at the building next door how to enter. We started by saying we wanted the Restaurant Week lunch menu, but the waitress seemed a little clueless about it. We later realized it's basically the same as their corporate lunch menu. She also seemed like she might have been having a bad day, but service aside, the rest of the experience was pretty good. I had the chicken club and my friend had the wagyu hot dog. Both were really good and came out fresh. The only thing I didn't really care for was the key lime pie. Everything else was solid and it was still a nice spot for a birthday lunch. Booked this place to eat on OpenTable. This place is located upstairs. You'll need to take the stairs upwards to get there where you'll find this place very trendy with a lot of customers. Noise wise it was happening - music, people enjoying their food, drinks etc. The one dish that stood out the best for me was the mussels and clams. It was so good. The broth had a kick to it that was good!!! I could have literally drank it all up but I ordered a side bread to continue my feats of enjoying the umami flavor!! Things could be better... My sister chose here for her 25th birthday dinner. The space is nice, dark lighting, second floor of a building right on Michigan Ave. the window views are really nice. Our service was great overall, we sat at the bar as there were extra guests at the table. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. Our food came out pretty quick and overall it was a nice environment. The food was more disappointing. The bread was delicious (it is a menu item not complimentary). One review I read mentioned the char taste being bitter and a bit overwhelming and that is how i felt about the steak and broccolini. We ordered it medium and it was a little more medium-rare. The broccolini was undercooked and still had that bitter char taste. Those two main components were not up to par with what I expected. I was a huge fan of Bandera, the place that occupied this space for years. Once I saw Evie came into play, I didnt know what to make of it. I often wondered were changes made or if they did a major overhaul of the space. I stopped in for lunch recently since I was nearby and as I walked in, I realized nothing had changed except for The Evie being on the walls. Took a look at the menu and noticed it was damn near the same as I remembered Bandera, except now there is sushi. Grabbed a seat at the bar since it was just me and started with an old fashioned...the homie Alex makes a pretty good one. I saw on this site the mag mile sushi roll was very popular so I had no choice but to get it. The roll includes salmon, ahi tuna, yellowtail, sweet potato, avocado, chili oil and crunchy garlic...it was really good! I also got a side of roasted carrots which was ok. The Evie is located on the second floor of a building on the Magnificent Mile. Be sure to make an advance reservation to be able to get a table and I suggest asking for a window seat table if you actually want the views over looking the Mile. I did not make that request, so our booth was set away from the street-views. The ambiance is great for a date night or work dinner and we did have good customer service from our waiter. However, the food prices are a bit on the high side for what you get. I got the lobster roll, which was $55 and only came with a side of french fries that were way undercooked. They have a fabulous brunch menu. We got the Rangoon sushi roll as an appetizer and it was delicious. It tasted just like a crab regular but in sushi form. Walked in with a group of 5 people for dinner on a Friday night and were able to quickly score a 5 seater circular table that had a great view of Michigan Ave/Magnificent Mile. I had no idea this place had sushi offerings, but it's actually a quite large portion of the food menu. Our server Paige was nice and efficient throughout our meal and provided great service / checked up on us quite a bit. All in all, the food and drinks are pretty great here. Can't say enough how much I enjoyed The Evie! A friend and I were only in town for the night and I booked the reservation because it was the closest to our hotel and I'm so glad that I did! The ambience was very intimate but lively - perfect for date night or dinner with family/friends. This place is centrally located and has a great view of Michigan Avenue. They have a really good happy hour menu if you sit at the bar, which I suggest because there is plenty of seating. Food was good, I really enjoyed the signature roll. The only thing I was a little disappointed by were the grilled artichokes. We originally went to this restaurant because it was right across the street from our hotel but I am really happy we went! I often feel like restaurants downtown are kinda corny but this was definitely more of an experience! The ambiance was great, but they were still accommodating to the children in our party!
