Because of the bargain price, I was expecting Eldon Suites to be middle of the road, but I was quite pleasantly surprised at how elegant and upscale the hotel really was. And I stay in A LOT of hotels. The overall design, the style and the artwork were all quite good. The staff was friendly, conscientious and helpful. Our suite was more than acceptable. Both the living room and the bedroom were quite spacious, handsome and well-appointed. The kitchen facilities were above average. The bathroom was a bit claustrophobic but acceptable. I would have given the hotel 5 stars, but there were several small things that they could have done better, details that a quality hotel should have paid better attention to. The bedroom did not have a TV set, nor did it have a dressing mirror. The lamp on the night table did not have any bulbs. The closets barely had enough hangers for one person. We had to ask for more. And the parking lot on the side of the building was just sub par and not worth the additional $29 overnight charge. I would stay here again, but I would hope that hotel management reads these reviews and fixes these details. read more

Do not stay here and save a huge headache! I recently stayed at the Eldon Suites to visit some friends. During my stay, my car was dented by their valet staff. What they don't tell you is that it is a SHARED parking lot. They box you in and ask for your keys to move the car. The valets also were smoking when my husband and I checked the car. The manager did absolutely nothing. He claimed to have contacted the insurance company and that they would be in touch with the claim number. That was last week and still nothing. No refund on parking either. In fact they accidentally, they charged me for 6 nights instead of 4. I called DC police to also document the incident. I also contacted the DC Tourist Bureau and Better Business Bureau. TERRIBLE TREATMENT! I love DC but STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

The good.... large suite with a great kitchen area. Bedroom in the back made it quiet at night even though there is no carpet to absorb noice (all tile). Very convenient to the Convention Center and all the downtown area. It's cheap. The bad.... terrible wifi service. There is a wifi unit IN THE ROOM but the internet service was always lousy. Had to connect to the downstairs lobby wifi quite a bit. Complained a couple of times but there was never much improvement. The bathroom smelled of mildew. Asked them to really clean it and I could tell they tried, but it still smelled off. Water pressure in the shower wasn't very good. There is a massive construction project right next door that supposedly starts at 7 am but they were working earlier. Make sure you request a room on the west side of the building at the very least. (It's Feb. 2017 now.) Interior design of the whole place just seems very strange. Can't put my finger on it - but very very dated materials and colors even though it doesn't seem old or anything. read more

I was here in mid-November for a conference. The location cannot be beat - the conference center is a block and a half away - and there are tons of amenities nearby, including a CVS around the corner, a Whole Foods 3/4 mile away (a 15-minute walk), and a lot of stores, restaurants, and fast food places within close walking distance, too. The hotel itself was great. Our apartment felt like a home away from home - i was so nice to be able to cook! The people at the front desk were so great and helpful. Overall, this place was fantastic - I can't imagine going any place else next time I'm in washington! read more

No restaraunt in this hotel, no room service (not even soda), bed was so uncomfortable I tried to sleep on the sofa-that thing is a rock!, no bath tub, folgers coffee tasted so bad my husband who was raised in a communist country and was used to scrounging for supplied and "making-do" could barely drink the stuff. Was misled with a rate and then overcharhed. Felt cheated. I then brought it up with management and they did not even acknowledge what happened but instead threw all their policies at me in a legal manner. I hate to use the word "scary" lol ... almost as if it was haunted from the wealthy people of the past. Ok, let me stop. Lol!! Overall, the place was VERY spacious!! Nice size bedroom (no tv). And I nice studio-style living food with kitchen (w/tv). ...there's really no windows in the place. If on side is facing a brick wall; while the other side is facing construction- which will eventually be another brick wall. But, overall, despite my wacky review; I would stay again. $150. Not really luxury. My room was DIY luxury. Some really nice touches. But then streaks of black mold that was not addressed or followed up on even after complaining. The shower leaked water everywhere. The closets looked like something out of a cheap dorm room. The area around had boarded up dilapidated buildings (safe?). Plus what luxury hotel offers breakfast for five bucks!?! To top it all off, when I checked in, no one came to the front desk for 15 minutes!!! I called the hotel from its own lobby and no one picked up. I dinged the bell on the counter and no one came. Finally the guy who shows up acts like its no big deal. Just bizarre. Could be cleaner. Smells of cheap citrus cleaner, and room seem to still have a somewhat stale aroma. Laundered slippers, really? Come on Eldon Hotel, you can do better. Skip the breakfast, not worth the $6 dollars. Stop at the Starbucks for a quick breakfast right around the corner. No televisions in the bedroom annoys me, and TV remotes are challenging. Was told by front desk, bounce remote scanner toward wall as the cable box is on the back of tv set. Ok. They should change this set up. I've stayed there numerous times since 2011 and this property is going down hill. Biggest plus is that it's a block from the Walter Washinton Convention Center. Outwardly it looks good, but not so much. Sound bounces off flooring in hallways and is loud. The poor little gold fish who is housed in the tank on the front counter looks like he is crying for help. Please keep the tank clean or don't bother, bad first impression that doesn't get any better once you objectively look at the cleaniness of this property. Oh, and don't bother trying the European jets on the shower, you'll feel like you've been attacked by a 5 year old with a super soaker at a 4th of July party. They took out the gym too. Services declining for sure. Front desk staff is nice enough, but it always seems like there's minimal staff on duty. Really unimpressed at this point. Ashame because this property could be better, if the management took care of more of the basic maintenance and finishing touches. Book a room on the back of the property, taxis and vans standing/idling for the Marriott Renassiance which is pretty much directly in from of the Eldon Suites make the front of the hotel too loud. Let me start by saying that this is my second review on Yelp ever. I also want to relay that I am not at all picky when it comes to hotels. My thought process is that as long as it's clean and I have a place to shower and sleep, nothing else matters as I won't be in the room much anyway. I will say that if you plan to spend a lot of time in the room, the room itself is well equipped with having a separate bedroom and then a living and kitchen area. It was a little disappointing that there wasn't a tv in the bedroom, but again I am not picky and that is easy to overlook. It was also very tidy. We arrived to the Eldon on a Thursday evening. It was narrow but bright and the front desk was more than happy to assist us. I noticed that the front desk itself was a bit disheveled and the picture hanging on the wall was extremely crooked but what did I care, right? We arrived in our room, extremely pleased with the hotel we had found, and went out to enjoy our night in Washing ton DC. We were woken early despite our plans to sleep in with our heads pounding.... Not because of the wine from the evening before either... but because of the JACKHAMMERS that were right below our window! With it being 7:00am, we figured out of courtesy they would stop within a couple of minutes but we were far from right. That is when the building started shaking- so much in fact that the bed was shaking along with everything else in the room. We laid there for about an hour hoping it would go away but realized neither of us could stand it anymore so we got ready as quickly as we could and left by 8:15am. So much for sleeping in. On the elevator ride back down to the lobby we noticed the small sign that read "Nearby Construction from 7am-10pm". NEARBY? They are apparently building a concrete building right next to the Eldon! Why wouldn't they have at least put is in a room on the opposite side of the building away from the construction? I understand that it is not THEIR construction but they should be taking measures to ensure the comfort of their guests. Placing a small sign in an elevator is not enough. In fact, a customer should be made aware upon booking the room. This was no small amount of noise or construction. My room should not be shaking at 7:00am in Washington DC on the 9th floor. This isn't New York City next to the Subway. Arriving back down to the lobby, it was more than apparent why they couldn't keep that picture level behind the front desk. Again, to me, hotels are for sleeping and showering so the Eldon was able to provide me with just about 50% of my needs (the water pressure is not impressive). Do not stay here in the near future unless you will be up after 10pm and before 7am- or ever. read more

Haven't been here for over a year, but I had to give them two thumbs up and I'd stay here again when I'm back in D.C. Lived here for about 1 week while on business and the room was outstanding; decorations, art work, clean, technology, everything. People were super nice in helping me navigate my way around D.C., in just in general with any request that I had. I'd come back for sure. read more

Not a bad bargain for a hotel near the convention center. They have suite style rooms equipped with breakfast bar, kitchen, desk, and living room. Coffee maker was key. Service was always very responsive. They also have parking available in an adjacent lot. I didn't understand why the rooms were so cold, but I guess it had something to do with the record cold temps during our stay. The location is great too, tons if development projects are bearing completion. One problem is that there are stairs immediately when entering the lobby, and that can be a pain in the ass to drag your bags up. I'd be back again though. read more

Excellent service. Checked in and room was clearly smoked in though spotless throughout. Moved to another room withon minutes and acknowledgement by staff that other room had smoking odor. Everything was really fabulous, above average internet speed, clean & redone bathroom with great shower. Suite was WAY bigger than expected with a really good kitchen with island one could even entertain folks, except for the fact that was not the reason i was here. Minute walk to convention center, metro, and multitudes of restaurants. It's a minor bummer about the construction but really minor. read more

This is centrally located and upscale--apartment size suite with kitchen, living room and bedroom, lots of closet space, nice furnishings. Breakfast is ok (hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, coffee, toast/pastries) for $6 and conveniently downstairs. Drapes instead of blinds would help cut the noise from construction and sirens. During 2 nights I had to call to get them to make other guests be quiet--I was awakened 4 times over 2 nights. Internet access is spotty--last night not good despite having staff reset the box in my room and downstairs. Access to wifi is really important to me! I would return if they indicated that wifi improved. read more

I am still in the hotel staying my last night. My room was not cleaned today and when I called the front desk at 6 and asked for towels I was told that they would bring some up to my room. I returned back to the room at 10:30 and there were no towels. The front desk then told me that the towels were still drying. It's been over 4 hours! He then told me that there were no other clean towels in the entire hotel and that there would be towels tomorrow when the cleaning staff came around. I had to go down to the front desk and have him get me a towel from an empty room. It took him 3 minutes. Worst service ever!!! read more

Excellent place and would recommend to anyone. Location is great although driving in from the east side you pass a few desolate buildings and you wonder where youo are going, then the road changes, the buildings improve and here you are. Dorrman was fantastic, took the car, the bags etc. Reception was great, really helpful. Rooms ar fine, I love tiled/marbled floors - and with a flat screen TV I was at home. Bathroom was fine - and big enough for most people - shower is great and the soap was way better than you would expect.he only things i would ask them to improve are: 1. Bedroom safe needs instructins in english (was only in chinese) 2. A bit of excess sealant on some of the walls where the joins were ( I am a perfectionist on remodelling) 3. Good points: location, decent kitchen, spacious, modern bathroom with good shower Bad points: Seems under-staffed, none of the housekeeping staff seem to speak any English at all, so I couldn't get my requests across (towels, nonfunctioning coffeemaker, hand lotion). Manager hides somewhere, I don't know. Each morning there were guests in the lobby complaining about internet access, room keys not working, no hot water, uncomfortable beds, and other nonworking issues. You have to drag your luggage up the steps to the lobby yourself, as there is no doorman/bell hop. Continental breakfast is $9.99 but should be free. Coffee machine needs written instructions because you can't tell what buttons to push for what, even caf vs decaf. Since the staff couldn't speak English, we were unable to get information about that. Fresh fruit was the only healthy option. Sweet rolls, white bread, and instant oatmeal full of sugar made up the rest of the breakfast bar. TV is lousy and unpredictable, someone had stolen the router cord so that had to be replaced. Will not stay here again. read more

The location in great for this hotel however, the management is terrible. The 1st room we were in... yes, first room didn't have a working tv. We also had to complain not once but twice on the first day of our visit due to loud partying in the hall and room next to us at 2am, we had to do it yet again the next day of the visit. at check out we asked for the room to be charged to a different credit card than the incidental. Easy right? No!! They charged the parking to the incidental credit card. when i called and asked about why this was they said it was a "pending charge" and it would not clear. surprise... It cleared. Now when i called back they said it was credited to my card and could take 2 weeks. when i asked for proof they said they would have to wait till a manager came in to email me poof. Now... this is also the manager i spoke to 3 different times who told me the charges were "pending" and would not clear. DO NOT stay here unless you want the hassle and inconvenience. read more

Great location! The accommodations were very nice. First impression was not great due to the way our GPS routed us, but after walking around found a different route which was much better. Metro only a couple of blocks away. Staff was helpful in directions and restaurant recommendations. Room with full kitchen and updated fixtures and bath. Rooms was very clean and housekeeping did a great job. The front desk area was piled with boxes which distracted from the first impression...but overall a great place to stay. read more

Wow, found this through hotels.com. Everything was clean. Staff were very friendly. It was close to the convention center, Safeway, and all kinds of good eats. It is close to the Metro train. I will br using them again when I return to DC in the future. I would highly recommend them to friends, family, or anyone looking for a hotel in DC to stay in. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews for the Eldon. My experience was completely different. Is this the Marriot Marquis across the street, no. You shouldn't book this hotel thinking that it is. I travel internationally a lot and these rooms are more like managed apartments, which are very popular all over the world. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff, no issues at all, they were attentive and very nice to us the whole time. The room was clean, everything worked, the bed was very comfortable, the shower was awesome, the water was hot. There were a few nitpicky things, which I expect from a place like this, like the light not working in the stove. Big deal. GREAT LOCATION just about a 5 minutes walk from 1) grocery stores, 2) CVS, 3) liquor stores and the Convention Center METRO station. If you are OK with a more lived in feel this place is great. If you require a plush 4 or 5 star hotel, then you'll need to book something else but be prepared to pay for it. The only gripe is the construction, which I knew going in from reading reviews and I can't blame that on the Eldon anyway. The noise starts promptly at 7AM. I recommend the Eldon and would stay there again in a heartbeat. read more

The hotel is located in a great location about 15-20 minutes away from the Smithsonian Museums and monuments, about 10 minutes away from the White House! It's best to take public transportation or your car if you are planning to head out the museums or monuments because it does get tiring from walking long distances. The hotel itself is cozy. We arrived earlier than the check in time and there was no parking available around the vicinity the front desk (a guy) wasn't helpful in regards to where to look for parking. But when we checked in there was parking available at the hotel's parking lot. The front desk woman was very nice, she was helpful in giving up the where to go spots for dining. The room was huge, our own mini apartment in Washington, D.C.!! Great space! There was a kitchen with a stove, plates, pots, cups, utensils, fridge, dishwasher table! Nice sized bathroom with great shower head! Bedroom was cozy though it was a little uncomfortable because the ac vent was in front of us. There was living room with a pull out sofa awesome great for a group of people. It was such a great experience, there was so much space at a great price I highly recommend it!! read more
