This is one of the worst bars I've been to in a long time. From not being able to order a drink directly from the bartender (you need to go through a cocktail liaison ) to being scolded for taking bar stools that were "reserved", this place is deplorable. I've never seen such horrible customer service in my life. This place caters to the younger crowd. I guess they're more important than older patrons since they were the lucky winners of the seats at the bar. Take it from someone who frequents different establishments on a regular basis, there is no need to subject yourself to the nonsense that goes on here. So small inside. There is just the bar, about 3 tables, and then standing room. The drinks are all extremely handcrafted, so go in with an open mind. Unfortunately it wasn't my scene and we weren't into sitting so close to our neighbors that we were basically in their laps. The food menu is super small with very specific choices. The Eddy was recommended to us by a bartender at Rogue Island, and thankfully she did! It's a cute cocktail bar located in downtown with that low-light, intimate place where you can sit and talk without noticing how much time is passing by. My boyfriend and I came here after Waterfire on a Saturday at around 9:30pm and it was decently packed but we were able to sit down at a two-seater near the window. Our bartender was prompt and dressed very hip -- not super duper friendly but it was a weekend, I'm sure she had far too much going on. My boyfriend doesn't drink so the bartender made him something off of the menu that was sweet and delicious, which was super nice. I got a couple "How you dew'n's" ($11) after exclaiming that I wanted something similar to a mojito and it was almost exactly that. Now, it's a cocktail bar so most drinks are +$10, but they do have a couple that are like $7-$9 if you're not trying to throw your money into the furnace like me. If you haven't been to The Eddy yet, go. Go right now. It's not to be missed. The menu is as impressive and classy as the space - straightforward, elegant and refined. You'll find everything from Sazeracs and Sidecars and Aviations to Ameratto Sours and various barrel-aged concoctions all at very reasonable prices (the average price is about $9 - not bad!)). Me? I go with the Bartender's Choice. And this doesn't mean just some special feature of the night - you'll actually have a chat with the bartender discussing your likes and what you're in the mood for and then - BOOM - the perfect cocktail (and probably something you've never heard of) will appear before you. They also have wine and beer, but c'mon - this is Jay Carr behind the bar, people. Have him make you a drink. The snacks are small, delicious and appetizing: charcuterie, crostini and various nibblies to help those stellar drinks go down all that more smoothly. The grilled cheese sandwiches are substantial and perfectly crispy, but I'm down for the Bavarian Soft Pretzels with Maple Butter, myself. Deeee-lish. In short, The Eddy is exactly what the PVD needed: a place to chill with your friends, have a few (very fairly priced) drinks and a nosh and not worry about moving on. Great fun, funky bar with actually awesome bar food! We reserved an outdoor table in advance because it gets super busy here, the waiters/host made the whole covid eating outside experience a breeze. If you want something only they make, give them an idea of what you like and you will be hooked on this place for life. I have explored more new Amaro and bitters here then I knew existed. Many of the cocktails I make at home are just imitations of what I've ordered here. I love the layout out, window seating with tables, traditional bar and stools, or the two large booths in the back. You can't throw a rock in Providence and miss hitting a crafter. (Please note: I do not endorse throwing rocks at people.) Between Craftland, Craftopia, craft fairs, and my personal favorite, craft cocktails, this is one city that knows how to make suttin' out of nuttin' or, take individual, promising ingredients and work them into something distinctly lovely. The mixologists at The Eddy exemplify this, elevating mere drinks to something delicious and memorable. Case in point: The Eddy's Blood and Sand. First, I was drawn in by its interesting name. Normally, I wouldn't want to ingest either blood or sand; but the drink's combination of islay mist scotch (can't you just see the fog off in the highlands?), cherry heering, carpano antica formula vermouth and orange juice sounded pretty captivating. I drank blood and sand; and I loved it. So much so, I drank it twice. I've also tried The Derby and the classic Sazerac, equally good and made with care--you may have to wait a bit for your drink, because it's being measured, mixed, shaken, poured and served forth by someone who understands the artistry of cocktails. While you wait, take a look around the cozy, attractive space: the centerpiece U-shaped bar dominates the room and faces an exposed brick wall. A large, sunset-colored painting of a plane in flight dominates the far wall, and a couple of cozy booths tucked into the back of the place give The Eddy a chic, hip, Down City feel. On a late Friday night, you will stand elbow to elbow with city folk; on a Tuesday night, you may have the bartender's attention entirely to yourself. There is a final, "bartender's choice" option that punctuates the bottom of The Eddy's 10-drink cocktail menu. Rumor has it that Jay Carr himself will mix it for you, following a frank discussion of your likes and dislikes, your personality, your hopes and dreams... It all sounds a bit confessional to me; I am both excited and nervous to see what my results will be, when the time comes. I've been here on a few occasions and my opinion about it hasn't changed much. Drinks are small, weak, and overpriced. Yes the drink menu is creative, however, I don't feel the prices are justified. I enjoy the views of the city while seated by the windows, however, this place is literally a living room; it's super small. Not to mention it's busy anytime you go. This is THE place. The name reminds me of one of the mafia guys I know on "the hill". Like those Italian restaurants. Theres The Eddy, The Geno, The Baby, The Louis, The Raymond. Forghettaboutit!. More than a year after the first review I just keep loving this place more and more. Food has been consistently good. Drinks have been consistently amazing. The decor and vibe have come into their own (love the giant airplane!) and they've made it easier to host events there. Tip: Go on a Sunday night for "Tiki Tuesday". It's just one of those weird Provi things. The drink specials are spectacularly ornate and because it's less crowded, the unrushed experience of watching your drink being crafted is particularly memorable. Darling little bar! It always amazes me how one can squeeze so much into a tiny space. The drinks definitely up the ante. I love a good cozy bar with dark wood and strong, well made drinks. More and more I find myself gravitating toward a classic drink menu. I mean, they're probably of the girlier persuasion, but still. Let's just say I would have been sitting with my flapper dress on and an Aviation in hand. And my Aviation was perfection. Ice cold and made just the way I like it. I wish I had more time to work my way down the menu and chat with the friendly owner. But alas, I can't. Our bar crawl in Providence was a total hit thanks to Hilary. We parked at a meter on Westminster and a started at the hip cozy Eddy. It's a dark kind of place. The booths are hard wood so not too comfy but the drink menu is what you come for..it's an experience, Our waitress guided us well through a very eclectic creative drink menu. I chose refreshing and honestly, cannot recall what was in my concoction but it was divine. My boyfriend had the El Coche: El Buho Mezcal, Zucca Rababaro Amaro,Cherry Heering, Vya Sweet Vermouth,Molé Bitters Orange Peel. It was so smokey and unique. We loved this spot. read more

I have wanted to stop by the Eddy for a while but didn't get a chance until last night and I'm so upset that I didn't make it here sooner. It was a crowded Friday night and upon entering and seeing the very capable bartenders in action we were a little intimidated to order our first round. Unsure what to try first we went with the basics, a gin & tonic and whiskey sour. My whiskey sour was amazing, possibly life changing! No sour mix to be found (thank god) and although I was initially creeped out by the raw egg whites I now can't imagine having one without this magical ingredient, it made it so smooth and almost creamy. They perhaps went down too smoothly because I ended up downing 3 if them. Jay was a joy to watch and interact with, it's truly fascinating to watch him craft these cocktails. All of the staff were warm and friendly and I found the other patrons very welcoming to us newbies. My husband tried a variety of drinks off the menu and liked them all and I got adventurous and went for the bartender's choice which was an excellent choice! We certainly will be back and hopefully have found our new go to spot! read more

Came here a few months ago for a drink after having a bite somewhere else due to rave reviews. Maybe the place is just too hip for me, but I didn't like it at all. With Yelp reviews raving about the House Punch - I tried and it was not for my palate. My friend, who is a drinks connoisseur wasn't too happy with her drink either. The place is extremely small and you'll be lucky if you get a seat on a Friday night - or you will have the endure the eagle eye wait. The biggest thing that turned me off was the bartender's drink mixing techniques which I unfortunately didn't see until after I hesitantly finished my drink. He had a ball of ice in his BARE hands and was breaking them in his hands before putting into mixed drinks! I don't care how many times you wash your hands - that is not how you handle any sort of food/drink preparation. read more

I began my night with The Derby which is: four roses bourbon, punt e mes sweet vermouth, orange curaçao, cane syrup, lime, old fashioned bitters. I'm not usually a Bourbon fan but this was TASTY.... The Derby was smooth and not overwhelming but definitely packed a punch in that tiny little glass. I then ordered some crostini and then a Sazerac. These were also pretty delightful. I liked that the crostini was made with Newport Creamery ricotta. The combination of the smooth ricotta and the briny olives atop the crusty pieces of bread were pretty great. I was lucky enough to grab a table during this very busy Saturday evening. If you go on the weekend i suggest you do too... because this place is beginning to draw quite the crowd, and it's pretty cozy in there. The drinks can't be beat and though the drinks are made meticulously the big crowd didn't drag down the wait time. These people are pro's and definitely know what they're doing. Well played, Eddy... Best place in Providence for cocktails hands down! I've been here a few times now and have never been disappointed with the drinks. Also the service was phenomenal! The waiter got us water and drinks very quickly upon entry and found us a spot to stand. Once a table opened up he seated us there. Even thought the space is small they are very attentive to your group and make sure you are in a comfortable standing spot or seated. A lot of their cocktails are on a seasonally rotating menu so you'll always be able to try something new when you go. Every cocktail I've had was awesome. You also must eat their food. Even though this place is usually seen as just a bar, they have some killer food! I love this place and am a regular now! read more

I'm a big fan of The Eddy. I learned to appreciate cocktail-making as an art form when I was overseas, and I haven't seen many places stateside that compare. The Eddy is definitely one of them! They know how to create a great drink. The bartenders are awesome and the vibe is so chill. I went on a Friday night and managed to sit at the bar with my two friends. The patrons were nice enough to "scootch" so we could all sit together, so even the clientele are awesome! It's a great place for conversations and aperitif enjoyment. I don't go out for cocktails often, but when I do, I go to The Eddy. Simply put the best quality drinks and bartenders and an outstanding ambience, it's tough to beat The Eddy. Try one of their outstanding listed cocktails or just describe to the bartender what you are looking for and they will help you get there. The Sazerac is one of my favorites. My wife (the designated driver) asked for something non-alcoholic and yummy and they really made her happy as well. Plus they have yummy tastes, we tried the spiced nuts which were great. The space is small and cosmopolitan but it feels big with a large brick wall, on one side, along with a partitioned section in the back. On a Friday night it's definitely loud although not too much to have a nice conversation. In sum, go forth and try them out. read more

I've been back to the Eddy multiple times since my first review almost a year ago, and I think it's my favorite bar in Providence. This last visit, I had 2 cocktails, one of which was the "Sun and Moon." It sort of tasted a little like raisins... but in the best way possible. The other was also lovely, but I can't recall its name and it's not listed on their website menu. The pretzel with maple butter has also become a staple for every visit. Even if you just ate dinner, just get the pretzel. You won't be sorry. Basically, the cocktails at the Eddy continue to be amazing, the service is always great, the design of the space is beautiful, and there's always a great crowd. I have to say that the current list (April 2014) was also the most intriguing and appealing I've seen from them, in terms of offering innovative drinks and spins on old classics (side note: the Sazerac here is great). Everyone has different taste, but I personally found it particularly hard to choose between all the drinks listed on this most recent menu! Wonderful all around. read more

I've been going to the Eddy for over five years and have had nothing but great things to say about their drinks and environment. Today after trying to have a night cap for my sisters birthday we were dealt with a rude waitress who not only dropped our silverware, forgot our food order, and when we told her about a drink that smelled unbearable she gave us attitude and provided us with terrible experience. ok i just turned 21 and took a girls trip to providence to celebrate and we stumbled upon this place. after your eyes adjust to the extremely dim lighting (you can dress like a slob, no one will know), you find yourself in a small bar with jazzy speakeasy vibes. we ordered the summer babe and the ruby tuesday both very light and refreshing. i can't say enough good things about the ruby tuesday, just get it you'll thank me later. we also ordered a couple of BLT sliders, and they knocked it out of the park. i want to be nap in that bun, with a thick cut bacon blanket. it's solid cocktails and yummy apps. they also had some live music which was phenomenal. 10/10 would recommend read more

I had a excellent experience at The Eddy on a recent visit to Providence. It's a very hip place, but also accessible. Cozy and friendly, it's a good date spot. The drinks are the reason to come. Very knowledgeable and talented bartenders here. We tried several drinks --the Orange Julius Caesar being my favorite. It tastes exactly like an Orange Julius but remains classy. Laid back, but with a vibe that accommodates the young and old at different times of the evening, and tasty snacks to boot, the Eddy is definitely on my list of must hits in Providence. This place has something for everyone (as long as you drink, anyway). Their creative cocktail list gives you an idea of the ingredients available, but really trying to find your perfect "bartender's choice" cocktail is where the bartenders shine. I think I had mine. It had gin and cucumber and lavender and floated down from a made-just-for-me cloud in the sky like the proverbial stork delivering a fresh cherub. Hands down, my favorite cocktail bar in Providence. My husband and I stopped in after WaterFire earlier this fall and were lucky enough to snag the last open table in this intimate, beautifully appointed space. Any spot that serves a solid sazerac, gin & tonic on draft, AND a mean charcuterie menu already wins in my book. Add on an expertly curated beer & wine list and I'm sold. On the food front, we started with rustic pork and chicken liver pate with black pepper plus some humboldt fog, grafton aged cheddar and a niiiice funky blue, all served with bread, cornichons, and mustard. Truly the perfect spread. I enjoyed perhaps my favorite cocktail of the YEAR here, the 'how you dew'n' with rutte celery gin, lustau fino sherry, lemon, honeydew, and ginger. So incredibly unique and beautifully balanced. As the bar was packed, it took a while to get our check which is something I never really care about because I was having a great time. Still, our server was so apologetic and took a drink off our bill for that reason which was totally unnecessary but still very much appreciated. A small venue but a full of character. I love the way that the bar tender does his "show" in the middle of the place. Good lighting. Not too bright, not too dark. Just right to soak in the atmosphere and watch the other bar patrons. Great selection of beer and wine, but the main attraction is the cocktails. Great little place in central Providence. We were a group of four and finding a seat was quite difficult, due to the popularity and small size. Normally, this would turn us off staying, but we were attracted by the excellent cocktail menu and professional staff. What was planned as one cocktail ended up being a long and very enjoyable evening. The staff were excellent, very friendly and very efficient, always there to check if we needed a fresh drink or a nibble. Speaking of nibbles, the Bavarian pretzel with maple butter is an absolute must. Delicious! Washed down with a nice cocktail or beer. Honestly, this place was the opposite of every review on yelp. We came here on a Monday night. A group of about 20 people after a professional conference at a hotel nearby. The bartenders immediately wanted us to leave because we were too many people in their bar. For the next 2 hours they made us feel extremely unwelcome telling us that the capacity was 35 people and continuously commenting about how the hallway needed to be clear for the exit. As I sit here reading haha there are 10 people here and the waitress still told be I was blocking the exit. I will never return and I hope others don't either. Not a happy place!!!!!! read more

After getting the lowdown skinny puppup from everyone and their mother about the Eddy...I FINALLY MADE THE PILGRIMAGE! If my soul were a bar, it would certainly closely resemble the modest and yet "just spacious enough" room that is the Eddy. Really wanted to love this place, extremely cute inside even though it's very small. Reviews were great and my group was looking forward to trying this place, but to our surprise, our experience was ruined as soon as we walked through the door and were greeted by the manager, I wish I got her name but she was brunette maybe in her 40's. When asked to be seated she basically told us we could stand at the bar. We wanted to clarify that there was just (one) tiny bar as it appeared like the restaurant may have extended back a bit. Keep in mind we didn't even have time to see if it did because we had been there for under 10 seconds, she rudely said "well this is the only bar we have so yea, sit or stand" . She continued to make us feel uncomfortable by making people move at the bar for us, and giving dirty looks and bad energy the whole time we were there. We didn't want to be rude and immediately leave, so we had one drink that we all sucked down and paid before we even finished. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. read more
