The BEST place for classic breakfast food in town! The Echo is my favorite for any type of breakfast or brunch. I went for Sunday brunch today and of course, it was amazing. Expect a wait if you go during peak brunch times, especially during the weekends. But with plenty of seating and an attentive staff, tables flip pretty frequently. For 3 of us, we waited about 10 minutes. If you're not set on a table, the counter is a great option, first come first serve. Although the menu is extensive and has everything you'd want from a classic diner, I opted for my go-to, the business(wo)man's breakfast. In my book, you can't beat it. If you're unsure, I recommend anything with eggs. I've ordered eggs 10 different ways here and have always enjoyed them. We also got an order of Megan's Cinnamon Pancakes to share. Holy smokes, these pancakes are what dreams are made of. It comes with 2 classic pancakes topped with cream cheese icing and cinnamon syrup. The hot pancakes melt the icing and make it a gooey, delicious treat. Do not skip out on these! They are a seasonal item and will go away in the spring :( Get them while you can! You'll be glad you did. Service was great as usual, with our waitress being very attentive and helpful. One thing that I really enjoy about The Echo is that many of their servers have been there for many years, and they always greet their guests with a smile and a great attitude. The food came out quickly, and prices were very reasonable. Both the restaurant and tables were clean. There is no question, the staff here hustles! Oh no! I went to the Echo today. It had been a while since I had visited. They no longer have their Friday Halibut sandwich or their Clam Chowder. Those were the best things on their menu. I remember, years ago, when people were lined up, outside the door, to get the Special Friday Fish Sandwich. One of the best breakfast diners around town with a homey feel and authentic servers. Their hoegarten beer is a specialty of theirs and it's just what you need after a long overnight shift. We always see a line out of the door on the weekends and after trying it I know why. This was some good home cooking. Do not go here if you're on a diet cause you won't be able to stop eating. TLDR: Typical diner food I wasn't impressed with my experience at The Echo. I came really wanting to like it because of all of the great things I've heard but ultimately didn't love the food I got here. I tried the omelette with potatoes and the omelette (to be warned) is different from your typical fluffy omelette.... The eggs are made to be fairly papery thin, which I don't particularly enjoy for omelettes. The one good thing is that the portions are pretty big so you definitely get a bang for your buck here. I got the Flying Pig Sandwich and I can 100% say this was the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. This piece of culinary craftsmanship blew my mind. Tables are seat yourself when not busy and when line forms become seated which I liked Service: great - order was taken and brought quickly. Only issue with the service is my wife ordered decaf coffee which didn't actually come until we left. Right by Hyde Park square, this kitchen offers wholesome entrees and delicious breakfast treats. Their service is reminiscent of a better time in American history, and the quality of their products provides a home-like experience. Their hotcakes are massive and delectable beyond compare. It is difficult to pinpoint any particular thing to improve in a place like this, however, to ensure we review the Echo fairly, it must be said that the only complaint is the size of the location itself. I love a traditional diner and this place is just that with also some unique original food options! I was so glad this place was recommended to us. I ordered the Belgian Bird with a side of home fries. The waffle component was amazing but the fried chicken portion didn't blow me out of the park. I personally like my chicken to be more crunchy to really get the whole fried effect. Overall, it was still very tasty but I would probably pick the waffle by itself next time paired with one of their many other breakfast options! My husband got the Hot Mess and that was amazing. The definition of comfort food in the best way possible. It had the perfect amount of flavoring. Don't pick this if you are trying to eat "light" or are on a diet! We did choose to go to brunch right at the peak time (10:30 on a Sunday). However, the line moved fairly quickly. I think we maybe waited for 15 minutes but to me it was worth it! What a gem of a place! A visit here was very over due and I can't believe it took me as long as it did to eat here. The service was fast and efficient as it made the wait in line feel link seconds. The menu was the perfect size and offered an abundance of mouth watering options! My table got the legendary "Hot Mess", "Lumber Jack", and the Belgium Waffle Chicken Sandwich. Worst time to come here would probably be after a church service since everyone tries to come down here. If the weather cooperates, if the line spills outside, you can tough it out. If the weather is bad, I'll try to find something else. Normally there is a manager that is managing who sits where, so don't sit where you see open seats, it's cramped in the line, but there is a method to it. Not a bad dish on the menu, in my prime, I enjoyed the Hot Mess, but not sure I can handle that anymore. All that would soak up a hangover. The Echo is a perfect name for these good old school inexpensive eats. They have kept up as a place my grand aunts dined to where I dined. They are a diner, not a gastro diner or a foodie spot. They have two dining areas - counter, tables, and a dining room. Prices are inexpensive. Staff is up to date. Diners range from hip, to neighborhood, to elderly, to children dining with elderly family. Everyone! They understand breakfast. I combined part of my family Irish and German heritage in my breakfast order. The potato pancakes, goetta plate with the corned beef hash. I would not recommend the corned beef hash. It is generic almost ground corned beef mixed with 1/4 inch cubed potato. But if you crave it, it is inexpensive. The goetta is a welcome menu item here from eating at grandparents homes. They source their goetta, a mix of sausage and oats, from Geiler http://www.goetta.com/home/. In my childhood, the goetta was whole oats unlike today. This experience is tempting me to make better goetta from original ingredients out West! The potato pancakes are also substandard and uninteresting, maybe from the same source. Potato pancakes should be made from coarsely shredded, lightly seasoned potatoes. Echo is a long standing beacon. Cool as a dive and capable of improvement in gastro destinationness without raising prices. read more

Diner style, amazing food!! There's a bit of a wait on the weekends but luckily If there is space at the bar you can grab a seat a little earlier. You can easily see into the kitchen and everyone is hard at work. The dishes are basically an amazing combo of fries, eggs, and meats! I had the French toast sandwich (pictured below) and it was delicious! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it can feel somewhat cramped in there. Very quick seating, I've never been here so waitress told me to grab a burger and something under the hangover section which I did - she didn't disappoint me at all . The service is good. I have eaten the crabcakes benedict, the biscuits and gravy, and they have this breakfast sandwich that is comprised of ham, bacon, swiss cheese served inside french toast, powdered sugar, then you dip it in syrup. I had the side of potato cakes with it. It must have been 5000 calories. read more
