Love the Eagle in OTR, this one kind of fell short for me. Took my friend for her first Eagle experience and started with the spoonbread. Typically, everything is made to order. This clearly was not, as it arrived within less than five minutes. The spoonbread was stale and barely warm. It didn't fall apart or scoop out easily at all. We were looking forward to fresh, hot, cornbread but moved onto the food instead. I got the fried chicken sandwich (which I always suggest) and my roommate got the grilled cheese. Both were good. Service was kind of weird, we had a server that was also doubling as a bartender so we didn't see him too much. However, we did have another female manager(?) step in to help him out since he was busy (?) (there was no one else there). She was helpful, brought us boxes without asking, got our checks, and ended up being the person who cashed us out. I don't really know who our tip went to but I'm hoping it was to her. Never thought I'd say this, but I wish we would've come during busier hours so that our food would've been made fresh to order. read more

The Mac and Cheese is very good, and the drinks are strong but your options are very limited. There are only a few things on the menu.

The night manager is completely awful and rude. I didn't realize that my partner was vaping at the time as I was faced away from him on a business call. The "Manager" SNAPPED and said well he is will you. Threatened to call 911 and took both our drinks. Go across the street to a reputable bare. Like union for example. read more

We went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded. We put our name in for the patio was we were told we were next on the list, 20 minutes later 4 couples had been seated outside before us. Turns out they lost our names. The service was ok, food was pretty good. We liked the chicken sandwich and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken was good but have found a place a tiny bit better and pass on the biscuits! Overall a fun place and we are glad we tried it! read more

This review is based solely on the staff. I was with a group of girls on a Saturday night, we got right in and were sitting at a big table. A friend and I stepped outside to get our other friend (we were outside about 5 minutes). When we attempted to come back in we were stopped at the door by an extremely rude woman who said they were not allowing anymore people in due to being at maximum capacity. I explained to her that we were with a group who already had a table and who had already ordered so our tab was open so we needed to go back in at least to pay our tab. She condescendingly told me to not raise my voice at her (which I hadn't) and stated "too bad. You aren't getting in". She then threatened to call the cops. I was in absolute shock at how I was treated. Luckily someone our group was with paid the tab since we couldn't get back in.This was my first time here and also my last. If a new bar/restaurant hopes to make it in the Short North they will firstly have to do a much better job of hiring friendly and accommodating staff. read more

Visited this place on a recommendation from a friend in the area. It did not disappoint. Went on a Tuesday night and the place was busy. Ordered the 1/4 chicken dark meat, the Mac n cheese and biscuits. It was definitely too much food for one person, but everything was delicious. Would have liked to try the food, however after being seated we were completely ignored. The server came to the table to wait on two gentleman at same table (tables are long picnic type, shared) didn't acknowledge us. We picked The Eagle for lunch on a Sunday, partly because they had immediate seating available and they had some parking close by. We sat on the patio near the street so we could people watch. Waiter was excellent, very attentive. Their specialty is fried chicken. I had the summer menu fried chicken BLT which was excellent. We ordered a number of sides to try -- spoon bread, biscuits and jam, French fries were excellent but order was small. Kids ordered Mac & cheese but they didn't like it, thought it was too spicy. My partner and I absolutely love this place. We would drive to Cincinnati from Columbus JUST to get that amazing fried chicken sandwich. Now that they are in Columbus we go to the Short North JUST for this restaurant. We always sit at the bar because the staff is super friendly, funny and professional. David is awesome! I rarely give a 5-Star review bc, nobody's perfect, right? In this case, The Eagle really was. We ate here for NYE. I'm still shocked that the place wasn't packed. I think maybe it's not "fancy" enough for some people's NYE dinner. Well, too bad for you bc our meal was incredible! The four of us got two whole chickens and pretty much every side dish on the menu to share. It's the only place I've been where every single thing I ate was delicious! The white cheddar grits, collards and spoonbread were my absolute favs!!! Oh and he Mac and cheese. And the biscuits! I just cannot pick!! The chicken, fried to absolute perfection. Stopped in for lunch with a co-worker. I had the Kale salad with shrimp. BEST KALE SALAD! I am a big fan of KALE and shrimp and this salad was amazing. Great size! My co-worker enjoyed the open sloppy joe. Enjoyed it...large portion too! Together we demolished the bacon appetizer. Service was friendly and quick. Entire place was clean. This was love at first bite! Tried several dishes and all were excellent, but my favorites were the brown sugar bacon paired with the kale salad. Big yum! The spicy honey that accompanies the chicken really sets it apart from other restaurants and goes great on the spoon bread--best cornbread ever! Raw chicken, rude/careless bartender with the 2012 Justin Bieber cut. I went there late night but not too late about 11 PM they close at 2a my brother and I went there for the first time because we heard great reviews but when our food was served the bartender was so careless I was rushing just so he couldn't get out. I understand it was his time to get up but I should be treated like his very first customer of the day. We started to eat as we're talking in between bites I no is his chicken was raw and bloody. I told the bartender he ignored me then I said excuse the bartender said quote " i'm off now that guy will handle you" and pointed to his coworker. About 3-5 mins later the MOD walked over and Insisted the chicken couldn't be raw and went back and forth with me for about 2 min then decided to cover our bill. That's ridiculous. Okay - so I initially went to the Eagle because I have heard that they have really good fried chicken. Well, the reviews are correct - the fried chicken was excellent, as was the sides - macaroni and cheese, greens, cornbread, and biscuits. Yes, all of these delectable edibles at a bar. We ordered a drink, they didn't serve mojitos so I was bummed, but the bourbon punch was awesome. The atmosphere is sorta loud - but we went on a Saturday night so I expected it. This spot has 2 stories. Some of the booths are shared booths - in other words, 2 may be sitting on one side of the booth, and the other 2 may be sitting on the opposite side - sorta interesting. They have regular tables too. The spot was loaded with people and it is very loud so don't go here if you want a quiet dinner. Our server was just "okay", but I had to remember it's not a restaurant, it is a bar that serves restaurant food. All in all - I really enjoyed the food, but I will probably only go back for take out, or I will go before the big bar crowd gets there. read more

I need to say first that I have mixed feelings about this place. It's like one of those songs that comes on too much on the radio and your like ahh next please but then you here drunk at 3 am after being out at the bar, and work it in your kitchen shaken dat booty like a salt shaka. The first few times I went to this joint, I was more so dumbfounded as I found the food and service to be equally disappointing and couldn't believe and I would never have the chance to slurp down savory yet spicy Asian coconut broth as memories of Haiku dance through my mind and empty soul and stomach. However, after being there multiple times recently, I was again pleasantly surprised (not with the service but with the delicious fried chicken). The chicken is actually really good. I will mention that I like Nashville hot chicken much better but if you want a good southern fried chicken sandwich with a nice patio, this place isn't bad. With that being said, ask about the food so that if the uninformed, young dumb blond doesn't lead you correctly, send that ish' back. The pickled sh** here is just ok. Somehow, the veggies in veggie app are served on a platter as if they were cooked or prepared separately but those dang veggies all taste the same like a jar of dill pickles, they all taste the same and they are suppose to but these veggies I think need some diversity in there earlier pickling stages. As I kind of mentioned, we had a server who was not of much help at all, she didn't know much about the beers but she was certain of what time the place or kitchen closed as she literally gave us our checks and got dafaq up outta der. Had the fried chicken. Outstanding!! Ordered a vodka tonic and got a vodka and soda. . Sat at the bar and they seem to have plenty of help but I wouldn't call it good help. Really good food. My friend and I met here for lunch today. The atmosphere is pretty neat and although it was fairly busy the large booths absorb a lot of the sound so it's nice to be able to hold a conversation without yelling, unlike most restaurants. We each had fried chicken and it was literally the best fried chicken I've eaten. It was crispy on the outside, the breading was just the perfect amount of seasoned, salty and a tiny bit of spicy. We shared mac and cheese, also good, mashed potatoes, delicious if you like horseradish, and spoon bread, yum! I recommend putting the honey they serve with the chicken on the spoon bread. The only complaint I have is that I was looking forward to a southern sweet tea and they didn't have any brewed yet and said it takes about an hour and a half! So I didn't get to have any at all. The couple that sat in the booth with us was also really disappointed. You've gotta get someone in there brewing that tea before you open or you've gotta hold some over from the night before, that's just stupid. read more

Three stars is the average of 4 stars for the food and our server and 2 stars for how we were greeted (could easily be 1 or no stars)...Our first dining experience at The Eagle did not start well. To say the sullen young lady at the front of the house "greeted" us is an understatement. She seemed annoyed that our party of 4 came in and that she had to take us to a table. She is NOT the person you want greeting people because first impressions are often final impressions. (I saw her several times after we were seated and not once did I see her smile.) Fortunately, the experience improved because of our server, Conner, and the food, which was quite good (fried chicken, cole slaw, shrimp po' boy, salad). We came in on July 4 to get some food and drinks to celebrate Independence Day. I must say, I was blown away by the service we received. When we came in (party of 6) we were greeted by a friendly host that asked us for our preferred seating (outside or inside). We opted for the patio even though they said the wait would be long. Two hosts checked on us and one even brought us waters while we waited. Knowing we had a baby, they got us a shaded patio spot. Our server was also great. We could tell she was very busy but she still made time to take our every request with a smile. The food and cocktails were amazing. The Eagle has some of the best comfort food I have ever had at a restaurant! I went there for the second time yesterday. The first time we had a very long wait, and an issue getting an accessible table. However, yesterday, everything about the experience was perfect!! From the accessible table, to the service and of course the food!! Everything we ordered was amazing.
