We were walking around downtown and stumbled across The Duchess and decided to check it out! This place was sooo cute and the staff was so kind. I got light bites since I wasn't super hungry so I just ordered 6 oysters and bruschetta. The oysters were so fresh and yummy! I loved the jalapeño mignonette with them too 10/10. I saw their bottomless mimosa deal also includes oysters so I'll definitely try this out next time!! Fairly new establishment. Originally a residential house then Spa, now a restaurant with outdoor seating and some indoors. Wonderful food, very good service. Was so excited to try the cripsy burrata and it did not disappoint! The flavors of the pesto and tomatoes paired so well it the crispy burrata. I'm craving it as I type this. Was excited to try out this new spot since the reviews seem pretty good overall. Service: not great. We went with our toddler and the host completely disregarded her as another person and gave us a tiny table with two sofa chairs that's clearly not suitable for our party size. After we were seated, we felt ignored as no one came over to take our orders despite we hinted multiple times to our server whenever he walked past our table. Food: not great either. I ordered a simple English breakfast and the only item with flavor was the sausage, everything else was bland. My wife's burger was also mediocre. Ambiance: wonderful! And there was live music performance which was fantastic! Overall a pretty disappointing experience. The "3" rating doesn't tell the story. Some of the food was excellent! The service was abysmal. Firstly, the Duchess asserts itself as "British". Apart from the poorly rated Fish and Chips (oddly absent from the menu), there is no British food there. The music, serving ware, etc., are Mediterranean. Which is totally fine, of course, but don't go there expecting Shepherds Pie, Bangers and Mash, or even Guinness. We were greeted promptly and warmly upon our arrival for lunch. The menu was brief but had some interesting items. The crispy burrata was excellent! The Duchess burger I ordered was good, but not great, and the accompanying fries were a bit soggy. I asked for them to hold the Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing and it arrived swimming in both; not a problem, I just scraped them off. This is where the service completely fell apart. My burger arrived a full 15 minutes before my love's chicken arrived. No reason why, no checking in on us later, no offer of a complimentary dessert, nothing. It's a shame because the chicken was delicious! Perfectly cooked and spiced. It was billed as a "half-chicken", but was actually just a leg and thigh. Even so, the portion size was fine. I waited to eat my burger, believing the chicken would arrive at any moment. I finally gave up and the cooling did it no favors. TLDR: Great food marred by poor service. Wonderful ambience, service, and food. What an unexpected surprise to discover this gem of a restaurant. It was particularly nice to not be rushed, and the vibe was very European. OMG, a true hidden gem! Prices for some of the best tasting food in Pleasanton are shockingly cheap. You will dine outside so be somewhat prepared, however they do have covered, heated seating. As any restaurant, if you are in a rush, go to McDonald's or see Jack. I'm sure if you tell staff in advance they will accommodate you, but the ambience is chill and should allow for an incredible opportunity to enjoy an evening/lunch of food and conversation. My third time eating at this very charming venue was yesterday on my birthday. Our first time eating there was for brunch and my Mom's sausage was RAW in the middle. We went again a couple of weeks ago for brunch and my Eggs Benedict was good, but my friend didn't really care for her meal. So yesterday for my birthday, I took 3 others with me to sit on their lovely patio for lunch. Unfortunately, they not only haven't gotten better; rather it was such poor quality food, I'll never go back. First they gave us menu's that were dirty, old and torn to start, and then we found out that the owner has opened 10 restaurants; all differing types in the Tri Valley and is not paying any attention to detail. What a waste of money, but more importantly to pay big money and have indigestion is the ultimate case of disappointment. Mismanagement of people and money is a rip-off to everyone; including the poor people that work there, trying to keep a brave face while management rips people off. It won't survive much longer at this pace. read more

I had the most unusual "crepe" which looked like a burrito but it wasn't and it wasn't really a crepe. Huge pieces of chicken and mushrooms wrapped in a thick, yellow (?) My husband and I enjoy a drive to Pleasanton, especially for their dining options which are much better than in our town. Today we stopped at this new charming spot in which we enjoyed a delightful Brunch, with excellent service by the restauranteurs who operate Elia the lovely Greek restaurant just down the street. I am not familiar with the former space but have to say that this spot is lovely. It feels fresh and new. The tiles and the decor feel modern and as if thought has been put into them. As for our food, everything was very delicious, present and presented beautifully. I would say for some place that is tagging itself as British. Some things could be a bit more British leaning. I.e the fish and chips was not served with tartar sauce but a modified sauce of sort and we had to ask for milk and sugar with our pot of tea. Only the pot of tea was brought with cups. Of course everything was brought into us quickly and with no problem. We also enjoyed a very delicious portion of their house-made bread pudding. I would say of all the things I ate, this was my favorite in that unlike most bread puddings which are served in huge portions and doused with some kind of sauce or syrup, this one was a moderate portion and the sauce was just the right amount, even for sharing. Very refined, for a dessert that is not usually so. Definitely worth a visit! Great for a date or a stop with your gal pals. Be advised that there is minimal indoor seating, but there is covered outdoor seating as well as uncovered outdoor seating. read more

Came for brunch. Food was ok not stellar. We ordered the eggs benedict with the crab cake, French omelet and bottomless mimosas. Crab cake was more breading that crab. Omelet did not have enough cheese and was dry. Amount of cottage potatoes was miniscule. The real dissapointment was the mimosa. Pre bottled and tasted like the one from Trader Joes. The setting is charming and the server was great. But based on this meal and the mimosas not sure if we would return. read more
