I was pleasantly surprised by the Deck! On a nice day it's a great view of the water and downtown Newburyport across the way. It appears cheesy at first glance but the food menu is unique and there are several craft beers on the menu that proved me wrong. I enjoyed a large salad and crab cakes and others in my party loved their burgers. We got a laugh watching the waitstaff. The greeters we're bored, so many of the waitstaff seem to be more-interested in talking than anything else. The food was ok, but the Mojito had no mint in it. When I got the waitresses attention she told me what they do is put in some very tiny pieces & if I want more she would get it. She did but when you make the drink the mint is suppose to be mulled to release the flavor. We are not impressed. It's to bad for such a great location that they don't manage it very well. read more

I've been there 2 times. The view is great. The beer selection is pretty good although there's a lot of crossover (if you love IPAs then you'll be happy). The food is overpriced and flashy looking but taste is not all that great. Quality control is not good. The first time, my 5 coworkers were not impressed with the flavor of the food. The second time it was just 2 of us, the medium burger was served raw (lightly cooked outside, absolutely raw inside. not rare, raw) and the chicken sandwich had about 30 sprigs of cilantro on it (yes we counted after picking them off after the first bite). read more

The DECK. Great place for food, and drinks by the water. I HIGHLY suggest you avoid their valet services, however, as when my car was returned to me my emergency break was completely pulled up all the way and the cable had been snapped. I should have been suspicious when a teenage boy jumped into park my Audi for me...but I trusted their services. The emergency break is now locked on, and I had to have my car towed. As I was leaving, another woman had a similar problem, with her car returned to her with her front bumper hanging off... LOVE the deck for food and drinks, but I HIGHLY suggest they reconsider who they deem "responsible" for parking their cars. A bunch of highschool boys is NOT who I want handling my vehicle. They should be inside busing tables. Also was a bit concerning when as I approached the valet, I was told "oh it's a standard? Do we have anyone who can drive this?" How can you have a valet service when its questioned if anyone can drive stick? I will not be returning, as when I called to talk to someone about this, I was told in a rush "we're too busy to respond." and hung up. When I called a second time, I was told a manager would call me back, but that has yet to happen.... I'll still recommend this location for my friends, but I HIGHLY caution anyone using the valet services!! read more

Great place to hang out when the weather is nice. Awesome view of the river and marina, especially around sunset. The food is decent, with typical bar food and some seafood entrees and appetizers. The prices for food and beers are very affordable, which is especially refreshing when you need a break from the restaurant price gouging that happens across the bridge in Newburyport. The upper deck is reserved for 21+ but the lower deck is open to all ages. Heat lamps were running the night that I visited since the temperatures were a bit chilly near the water. Parking can be somewhat tight when they are crowded, but they also offer free valet parking. I definitely plan to return this summer. read more

I ordered a frozen drink and the waitress said they didn't have any today not sure what that meant, then I asked for a bahama mama and she said there was no banana liquor. FYI there is no banana liquor in that so she then suggested a rum punch it was the worse drink I ever had it tasted like I was drinking straight cheap rum and it cost 15$ and I never drank it. The Deck has been my hot spot for the summer this year. The atmosphere is super fun, casual, and you just can't beat the view. The duck castle is the cutest, got to watch the babies grow over the span of a few visits. Everything is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the Lobster BLT, flavorful and tons of lobster meat with a spin! The fish sandwich is the best I've ever had. The portions are large and the food is great... Well worth the prices . The specials always look and sound amazing. They are always unique and creative. My favorite drink is the Bloody Mary... It's pretty spicy which I like and comes with CANDIED BACON! I can't say a single bad thing about any of the food I have had here. For the most part I've had excellent service. The staff is friendly and there have been a few occasions where even the cooks have come out to the deck where you can tell they have a passion and pride for the product they put out. It has been busy with a wait every time I have gone but that's a good thing! Goes to show I'm not the only one who likes it here. I send everyone I talk to here and I have yet to receive bad feedback so I am surprised at how many unfavorable reviews there are here. Two thumbs up from me!! Things to remember: cash only! You really can't beat the view and it's nice to finally have a place that has a huge outdoor deck (beside's Michael's Harborside which I have grown to hate). The fact that it's cash only really doesn't bother me...it's a seasonal place and credit card companies charge a fee. We did not get any food so this review is more about the service and set up. The new set up is kind of weird. I know the kitchen is small but why is the "drink and app" area twice the size of the "dining" area?? Our poor waitress was so stressed out because people would come and sit for drinks then get up and move to the dining area when their table was ready. The waitress, I presume, would lose out on the tip after serving these people and would have to go through the hassle of switching their tab over to the new waitress. It took forever to get our drinks and the waitress mentioned they were pre-made. If the problem is a small kitchen size, they definitely need to expand it. We also noticed only 1 bartender behind the bar and it seemed as though they were understaffed. Annoyingly enough, people that went up to the bar got served way before we got our drinks. Good fish tacos, mussels, chowder (with bacon) and spicy margarita. They claim the margaritas do not have sour mix in them, but my heartburn afterwards told me otherwise. We went to have dinner and watch the fireworks, which the hostess knew. They seated us at one of the few tables that did not have a view of them. 5 minutes before the fireworks started, our waitress and most others climbed up to the roof to watch them, neglecting us BIG TIME. They all stayed up there for the entire fireworks show. We should have just left and nobody would have known. After reserving a place on the wait list online and being told the wait would only be an hour, we waited an additional 35 minutes which would have been fine because I do understand it is summer and it is busy! After placing our order both my boyfriend and I's meals came out wrong. I ordered a BLT and it was missing lettuce. My boyfriend ordered a plain cheeseburger and the burger came out with lettuce and tomato and no cheese. We waited 15 minutes for our waitress to come back because our food was just dropped in front of us and we did not have the second to ask for cheese and lettuce. When she returned she came back with shredded cheese for the cheeseburger and 3 pieces of lettuce. By this time both of our meals were cold and soggy. We paid our bill and we're on our way out when we had to move to the side for 2 of the hostesses coming through texting on their phones so they did not bump into us again after one of them bumped into us already. It is such a great spot with such a great view. It is sad that we will not be returning due to complete negligence. read more

Have been here twice. Nice ambience, but that's about it. Both times it was moderately busy and the service was horrible. Very slow on everything. If you plan to have drinks, maybe sit at the bar. Otherwise you will get about 1 drink an hour. Staff is not attentive at all and hardly ever comes back to check and see if you need anything. Seafood was average at best. As a college student, and an honest blue collar worker holding down two jobs back home, I'm very grateful to be able to take vacation time when the schedule lines up for me to do so! That being said, since I rarely am able to accumulate vacation days that doesn't interfere with my 3 different priorities. I'm always a bit choosey and must plan out carefully how I spend my days off! This year, I have elected to go to The very great city of Boston. The DECK was in every way accommodating and probably the best highlight of my vacation making me not regret coming to Massachusetts at all. I'll spare you the details of my aforementioned vacation, and more so give you the details to as of why I am even typing this review for this very very fine establishment known as "The DECK". Located in Salisbury, about an hour or so drive from Boston, I came across it hearing numerous raving reviews from the locals in city. Boston, Salisbury, Worcester, were amongst the cities I visited and heard nothing but good things about the place. So of course, I decided to give it a try myself. First thing I noticed when I arrived is the outdoor seating. It reminded me of home back in the San Francisco, Bay Area. I know I'm supposed to be on vacation and that alone shouldn't really be anything new to me, but I liked it. It made me feel at a "home away from home". So I was definitely digging the atmosphere even before I even entered through their doors. Now as far as service, I have no complaints, no critiques, had 100% great service, and even had the honor of meeting up with the manager of the place, Conrad. I tell you, one of the nicest guys you'd probably meet in your life. Very laid back and such a humorous individual, it's him and the rest of the staff's hospitality that will allow this great business to thrive for many years to come. And if that doesn't get you to come back, their menu items will. But myself, I typically go to bars to hangout and have a drink. So would I recommend this place? 110% yes, I do. It's very family friendly as well and such a great ambiance. I didn't expect it to be so pristine & such a well managed bar/restaurant. It almost makes me wish I lived in the area. But for now, whenever I take a vacation back to the Boston area, I will most definitely be making a few trips down to The DECK during that period of vacation. Love it. read more

The good: We had the hummus for a starter and the Cuban sandwich, the burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions, and the fried chicken sandwich. All of the food was well-prepared and delicious. There was a $2 upcharge for onion rings and sweet potato fries, which I normally find annoying, but they were homemade and worth it in this case. Our waitress Alice was pleasant and knowledgeable. The bad: They only take cash, which is clearly stated on the website (so I knew to bring cash) and on the menus. They do have an ATM on site, but then the customer ends up paying ATM fees. I know businesses have to pay a percentage of the charge amount to the credit card company to accept credit cards, but I think they should suck it up...it's the 21st century :) I know it's a seasonal restaurant, so perhaps that had something to do with the decision? Sorry in advance to complain if it's out of management's control. The second con is that the burger was overpriced. It was delicious and clearly all parts were fresh and homemade, but it was $15 for a relatively small patty. I think a price point of $10 to $12 would be more accurate for what you get and comparing it to peer restaurants in the area. The ugly: Nothing :) Bottom line is I'll be back because the food and service were great, and it's a perfect location. I'll just make sure to bring a large amount of cash. read more

Sat down, no one came over, had to get up and ask hostess for a menu. After about 25min and none of the staff even saying hello we got up and left. A couple in front of us was leaving at the same time and told the hostess that they received the same lack of service. Heard good things maybe it was a bad night but still.... Will try it again because it really does look like a fun place overlooking harbor to eat and have a few drinks. Hopefully service will improve. read more

The upstairs is a clear attempt to build nightlife up there, with melodic bass music playing. It's overall a really chill place to grab a few drinks. We ate here yesterday late afternoon and it was real good overall. The service we had was excellent, and the waitstaff and hostess were all super nice. We ordered the calamari as an app and it was real tender and tasty, I would get that again. Portion are good size, I had the fish tacos and fries. It was excellent, and they give tons of nice hot fries with it. Yes, pricing is a little high for burgers, but you can't beat sitting by the ocean with the sun shining on you while you relax and eat, it was a good time. read more
