Stopped in for lunch midweek and the place was jumping! The hostess let us know it would be a bit of a wait since we requested a booth. The wait was shorter than expected and we were fortunate to get Carson as our server. Carson was personable, informative and professional. The food was excellent and the prices were commensurate with the excellent quality. All of the staff worked well together. A highlight was when we passed on dessert but, Carson knowing we were celebrating a birthday surprised us with a cookie and candle and card from the restaurant. Whike this may seem like a small gesture, it was greatly appreciated and certainly a reason we will highly suggest to friends, family and colleagues to go to the Dearborn and ask for Carson!
The service was wonderful - very engaging staff who seemed to enjoy and take pride in their work. Of course we came here specifically for the fish and chips, but we also split a huge order of Parker house rolls, which were amazing. Those rolls are perfect. The disappointment was the fish itself. While the crunch and flavor were perfect, the texture of the fish itself was watery and mushy. It didn't hold up at all against the crunchy coating. I would not order it again, but I would go back to try something else. I'm hoping I just had an anomaly. The tartar sauce and fries were good. Clean place in a good location, too.
The most delicious soup I've ever had; I will literally be back to Chicago simply for their Spicy Chicken & Mushroom Soup. I can see why these fish and chips beat Bobby Flay! And the pizza was great. Kind attentive service - my water glass was never empty! And it was HOT; I was drinking a ton! Ambience is gorgeous. Totally recommend.
I'll be thinking about my experience at The Dearborn for a long time! This past Sunday morning, I had wanted to grab a quick coffee before seeing some sights. As it happened, the cafe I wanted to check out was mobbed with a line down the street, and my boyfriend expressed wanting a full meal. A quick look at the map confirmed we were close to The Dearborn, and they were opening in about 10 minutes. Perfect. We detoured to view the Chicago Picasso and waited until open to walk in. Upon arrival, there were already several parties waiting to be seated, which is a clear indicator of the restaurant's popularity. We were seated not long after along the row of seated half booths in the room behind the bar. Our server, Melissa, was soooo friendly and lovely. She gave us some suggestions on other spots to visit too. We were both planning on starting with the horchata carajillo cocktail, but Melissa sold me with their brunch punch of the day - pineapple gin, yuzu, raspberry syrup, lemon, and soda water. Both cocktails were incredible, and my boyfriend and I were both buzzing before 11 am haha. *We did also order coffees - their cappuccino was delightful. In terms of food, we decided to start with the croissant monkey bread. As you can see, I took a bite before we even put the sauce on top - it was that irresistible. For potentially the first time ever, my boyfriend and I equally shared a dish. Typically, he eats faster and more than me, but I made sure to keep up - it was way too good to miss out. For my meal, I ordered the four cheese tavern-style pizza (fontina, gruyere, gouda, mozzarella, chives, garlic butter), and my boyfriend selected the fried perch benedict. I tried a bite of his, and it was lovely, but I was more focused on my pizza. To be clear, the pizza is 14 inches and easily could have been shared by both of us. In fact, he did indeed eat all of the leftovers later that night. This was hands down our favorite dining experience during our long weekend in Chicago, and I need to revisit on a future trip to try their famous fish & chips.
OMG! Walk, run, sprint here to get the FISH N CHIPS THAT ACTUALLY BEAT BOBBY FLAY. The executive chef and now chef partner, Aaron Cuschieri, is absolutely amazingly talented. I am used to really good fish and chips... I've never had better fish and chips than Tom Douglas's Mr. Fish in Seattle, UNTIL NOW!!!! Wow, wow wow wow! Do not pass GO, do not read the menu, just order the darn fish and chips! It might be a whole heart attack on a plate... But it doesn't matter... You can walk all of Chicago and burn it off. I decided to work out before I came here for this big splurge and I'm so glad I did. I can see that this is the theater district... And you could come here before a show fish and chips and have the best night of your entire life! I can't wait to try more of this chef's food! I'm BEYOND INSPIRED! ps great beers here toooooi!
My coworker and I went for lunch. It's a very upscale looking restaurant but some people were causally dressed and others professionally dressed. The hostess advised without reservations we could sit near the bar. So we did. The service was great. The food was great. I will return for sure!
As a long-time Chicago diner who was through the doors when The Dearborn first opened, I've watched its menu evolve over the years. Very few people are as deeply familiar with the Chicago dining scene as I am fortunate to be--a gift and a curse that makes me hold local institutions to a high standard. Unfortunately, The Dearborn's execution hasn't kept pace. The underlying issue is consistent visit after visit: the kitchen continuously delivers dishes that are underseasoned and devoid of depth. I appreciate high-quality ingredients and subtle flavor profiles, but the plates here routinely leave me wanting. During a recent visit, we ordered two staples: the celebrated Fish & Chips and the Shrimp & Grits. Though advertised by our server as authentic New Orleans style, both the shrimp and the grits were remarkably bland. The flavors were so muted that we ended up asking for extra seasoning or hot sauce just to give the dish some life. The ingredients were undeniably fresh, the cooking was technically sound, and the service was fine. However, as a high-traffic spot catering heavily to tourists, the kitchen seems focused on playing it safe for mass appeal. It works for a broad audience, but for anyone who truly knows Chicago food, it falls short, and I can't say I look forward to returning. 2.51 stars all things considered.
Many items on the menu I would of liked to try. I chose the Triple BLT and it was meaty and delicious! Service was excellent as well.
WOW! We had such a great dinner at The Dearborn. The restaurant is lively, cheery with a fun atmosphere. Our server Melissa was great and checked on us regularly. We ordered a variety of dishes to share among 5 people. Do not miss the Parker House rolls! Holy warm baked buttery deliciousness. We also loved the Japanese curry poutine (which was a surprise!), the market salad and the gnocchi. We also tried several cocktails, including the Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches and the Spanish G&T.
Staff took such good care of us and actually got us moved to a much better window booth where we enjoyed some fantastic fish and chips
The next brunch spot you have to try in Chicago is The Dearborn! The aesthetic here is upscale Irish tavern, with amazing vibes and service! I came here for brunch & most definitely need to come back for dinner! Their fish & chips beat Bobby Flay, & it's no surprise they did! This dish is perfection! The cod is fresh & flaky, and the batter has just the right crisp. The dish itself is huge & all the accompaniments are exactly what you want. The beignets are so fluffy and great for sharing a sweet treat to start or end your meal. The corned beef hash is packed with traditional Irish flavors and tastes delicious! You need to come here asap!
Service was great! I sat outside which was a risk with it being 4 pm and lots of cars and walkers but overall was pleasant. Fish & Chips were very good but I wouldn't say the best I've ever had. Given the claim I had really high expectations, but again very very good. The batter was light, crisp and not soggy. The flavor and lightness of the slaw was my favorite part; not soggy from sitting in dressing. Curry sauce was tasty but I mainly used it to dip my fries in. The cocktail was smoky (in a good way) but I did want it to be more tequila forward (personal preference).
Brunch at The Dearborn - solid! Skip the appetizer rolls, they were just meh. But the fish and chips and burger? Chef's kiss. Add an espresso martini (or two) and you're set. Will be back!

Came in without a reservation and was seated promptly, which was a great start. We were seated at a table with wide leather chairs that were surprisingly comfortable and made the experience feel relaxed right away. Our waitress was attentive throughout the meal and checked in on us regularly without being overbearing. We started with the sticky pork rib. It definitely packs a spicy kick, though it leans more on the sweeter side, maybe a bit too sweet for my taste. The flavor was good overall, but the meat could have been more tender. For mains, we ordered the fish and chips and upgraded to truffle fries. The fish was buttery and flaky, and the breading was nice and light, which I really enjoyed. The fries had good flavor but could have been a little crispier. We also tried the prosciutto tavern-style pizza, which was the biggest letdown. It really needed more crispiness. Both the crust and overall texture felt soggy. The flavors were quite muted, and none of the toppings added much texture or contrast, which made the pizza fall flat. read more
Really enjoyed the atmosphere. We were originally seated in a comfortable but busy area near the kitchen and later moved to a booth by the window. I decided to have an a shot if Anejo and ordered the dish and chips. Delicious! Probably the best slaw I have ever had and I am not into coleslaw at all. The service was good and the menu offered a god variety. They have an extensive liquor and wine menu as well as beer. A place I would come back to when in downtown Chicago. I suggest reservations for evening meals. Would have to try something thing else to give five stars. read more

I went to lunch here solo & was very underwhelmed by the food & experience. I got the Peruvian-Style Ceviche & the Fish & Chips. The ceviche was bland to me & didn't taste that great to be honest. The fish & chips which comes with fries actually surprised me at the giant size of the serving and the fries were hot, fresh, and delicious. The fish itself although hot and fresh had no flavor at all. Very filling, but tasteless. Overhyped & I could not recommend. I also originally ordered a root beer which the waitress confirmed upon repeating my order back to me, but I never recieved. It seemed as though service since I was dining solo was also very slow as well as I watched my waitress go to other tables and not mine when I kept looking to ask where was my drink. Overall, food severely lacked flavor and there's too many other places that can you dine at for better of taste/service. read more
Really great experience at the Dearborn recently. Stopped in after visiting Millennium park on a Sunday. Sat in the bar area and it was perfectly decorated for the holidays. The staff was amazing, drinks were great, and the food was really good. Kept it simple with a pizza but was impressed, will return back! Just had my first, amazing experience at The Dearborn! After visiting Santa at Macy's with my husband and twin toddlers, we walked over for brunch. Even though online reservations looked full, we called and were seated immediately. The restaurant is swanky, clean, and beautifully decorated. The coat racks next to the tables were super convenient for storing our bulky winter gear and diaper bag. The service was outstanding; our server was friendly and always on top of things. They didn't have a physical kids' menu, but offered plenty of kid-friendly choices like grilled cheese, buttered noodles, cheeseburger, chicken fingers, and pizza, which all come with fries. My husband and I split the corned beef and the PB&J French toast, while the boys shared a grilled cheese and shrimp with grits. We also upgraded their fries to truffle fries. Everything was incredibly delicious! I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu! read more

The Dearborn is a very nice restaurant for a nice meal downtown. The food was tasty, particularly the fried perch Benedict, which is a nice variation of the classic dish. I enjoyed their tea presentation with little clear pots for you to steep your tea to your liking. The ambiance is very relaxing, though nice with the TVs to stream football games on a Sunday afternoon. There was a live band when we went that sounded great. The staff was alright - greeted nicely at the front. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because nothing particularly "wowed" me for a nicer restaurant in downtown. It's a safe bet for a meal, but nothing crazy special. read more
Wonderful warm place for sure. Every time we pay a visit here when come to the city and do some shopping on the State st. Very busy place during the weekend. My kids have always loved the steak here. And fish and chips I typically go for a salad with an appetizer which never disappoints me. Wait staff was always very attentive and friendly. read more
This review is for the location at O'Hare Terminal 5. Wanted lunch before our flight. So glad we found this place. All the food was good. Server was friendly and came by frequently until we ordered. Then long gaps not seeing her and we had to flag down other servers for drink refills and our check before leaving. Somewhat crowded interior but it allows plenty of tables to accommodate people during busy periods. Pricey airport food but good portion and flavor. read more
Being a California boy (born and raised) my only way to get a Fish & Chip meal was at a fast food franchise called H. Salts Fish & Chips; and it was fairly good. Several golf trips to the U.K. (Britain, Scotland, Wales) I got my fair share of excellent Fish & Chips; the best being in Ullapool, Scotland at The Seafood Shack I have never had better! But, leave it to Chicago to deliver some of the best fish and chips I've ever had in the USA, here at The Dearborn restaurant in the Chicago loop. Everything about The Dearborn's signature dish just worked in every way: The fish was fried perfectly The fish itself was moist and delicious The chips (fries) were excellent The coleslaw was the perfect side dish The tartar sauce was scrumptious My Krobacher Pilsner paired perfectly with my dinner The service was spot on And sitting at the bar watching the NBA playoffs didn't hurt either. I did have a scoop of delicious salted caramel gelato that finished this meal perfectly. Having such delicious fish & chips a few blocks away from where I live is certainly better than flying "over the pond" (a British term for the Atlantic Ocean). read more

Easily one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. The food and service here are fantastic and definitely worthy to check out. This might be the best bread i've ever had. The duck was fantastic and so was the amish chicken. We also enjoyed a hot honey pizza option and a couple of drinks. We didn't get many pictures because the food was so good there was no time for the camera to eat before us lol We also really appreciated they had a cocktail they donated a portion of to a good cause, so we made sure to order a round of those drinks. This establishment was our first dining experience after arriving in Chicago for my husband's surprise birthday trip. This establishment was very easy to locate and aesthetically perfect! It was so beautiful in there! The decor was amazing! It was a total of 6 of us. As soon as we entered the establishment, the hostesses at the front stand were very kind. They were very pleasant and led us to our seats. We were greeted shortly after by Stacy. Stacy was very witty! We loved Stacy! Stacy came out at the appropriate times, took our food/ beverage orders perfectly, and had a sense of humor that we really appreciated. Collectively, we had the following. Brunch Punch Fried Chicken & Waffles Parker House Rolls Croissant Monkey Bread #BasicAF American Breakfast Dearborn Burger White Peach & Razz White Sangria We loved each and everything! The beverages were all amazing, the food was all well plated and delish. We would absolutely order the same items again and again. Although we had many stops after leaving, we laughed about how Stacy communicated with us and raved about the food the rest of the weekend. Job well done Dearborn, Stacy is a gem! Update (Oct 2025) Decided to give the Dearborn another shot! I got the Midwest fried chicken and it was very good. The sauce was sweet and spicy and the chicken was very crispy. The Brussels sprouts were good too but definitely plan on sharing them if you get them because it's a large portion. Unfortunately, they sat us in the back corner of the restaurant and it smelled like sour mop water the entire time smh. I probably won't be returning. read more
A lovely experience! Came here for my birthday lunch with a friend (both of us have never dined before). We made a reservation and I suggest anyone wanting to dine there do so to avoid a wait as it was very busy. The decor is beautiful and while tables were a little tight the space feels bright and open. The staff up front immediately acknowledged our reservation and wished me a happy birthday and my waiter did too. The customer service from beginning to end was top tier, I was really impressed as a lot of establishments have gone downhill regarding their service after Covid but not here. We ordered hung up on lychees and Fleet 17 for our drinks. Both were tasty but absolutely recommend hung up on lychees. After traveling I was hangry and immediately ordered the Parmesan truffle fries & they came out with the drinks we ordered. Very tasty perfectly crisp and you can taste the truffle flavor. For mains we ordered the fish&chips and the shrimp and grits. Absolutely recommend both! Both were filling and cooked perfectly, they do not skimp on portion sizes. I received a complimentary birthday cookie and a card from the staff and they printed happy birthday on the menu. It's personalized touches like this that really make your dining experience memorable. Absolutely will be coming back & recommending to my Chicago family read more

This is an excellent spot for a special occasion! I visited recently with a large group for brunch and we had a great experience all around. Regardless of the time of day and especially during peak hours, I would definitely recommend making a reservation to air on the safe side. The staff prepared our table super quickly and was very attentive- they really went above and beyond throughout the meal. I do not recommend skipping the drinks! I ordered the seasonal Si Se Puede, Tia mezcal cocktail, which was quite spicy and perfectly sweet. For appetizers, we shared the parkerhouse rolls. The rolls were soft and buttery with a delicious whipped butter spread. For the main dish, I ordered the Dearborn Burger. It was solid overall and the portion size was very generous. I tried the fish and chips as well which were excellent. Would definitely order this next time! For dessert, we tried the sticky toffee date cake. I liked that it was not too heavy, and the Heath bar crumbles added a nice crunch. My only wishlist would be to have more of that delicious sauce to scoop up! We left with ample leftovers and in high spirits. Definitely looking forward to visiting again and trying more of the menu! read more

Live music during Sunday brunch offered a great vibe. We got our Parker house rolls and Bloody Mary super fast. Both very good! Off to a good start, but then we waited 45 minutes for our mains. Our server came by once toward the end of the 45 to let us know our food was on the way. Pretty sure the holdup was in the back of the house. The burger was good, but nothing extraordinary. The fish and chips "that beat Bobby Flay" had a light, crispy batter and the cod was a moist, substantial chunk of fish. Food: 4 stars Service: 2.5 stars 3.25% operational fee. Booked online prior to arriving in Chicago for a week vacation. Cute ambience, had a window seat, which was great as the sun was setting. Staff was overly attentive and helpful. We had wine and cocktails to start, which were fabulous. The waitress guided us with great menu choices. We were very happy with our meals. My steak was cooked perfectly. We had been there to celebrate a birthday while in town and they brought out a wonderfully warm cookie with a candle, which was great. I will say the starter ribs were extremely difficult to eat because they had very very little meat on them. The flavor was there on the bone but not much else. Food was absolutely delicious. Ambiance very cool but also relaxed. But what really set the dinner apart was our server Cooper. He had a full section but still anticipated every need before I even thought of it - from drink refills to utensils. Really some of the better service I have had in quite awhile. This was our first stop on our Chicago location. I liked the ambience of the restaurant. It was a very modern decor. We were seated quickly at a bar table and I was happy to catch up on baseball. Love the lychee drink! This place has a reputation for elevated bar food that's another level. The drinks met expectations. The food was good too. Not customizable. I was asked four times if I had allergies and said no but I didn't like mushrooms. Ordered the burger Wellington without mushrooms and was told that wasn't an option it's premade with everything that's in it. It was still good. Sauce was excellent. Burger had a flaky crust and red beef. Service was slow. Asked for water three times and it was forgotten. Not a particularly busy day but not a good service day. Drinks are 18 dollars. Burger was 26 and fries were extra. Still, a nice vibe. Open window gives a good comfortable feel. Five star vibes with one star service. read more

I truly enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. I decided to drop by while I was in town. I came here right before I was leaving because it had been on my list of places to visit. It is centrally located and was pretty close to my hotel. I sat in the bar area and my waitress was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the pepperoni pizza and you have to end your meal with the chocolate chip cookies. I truly enjoyed the cookies and the whole meal. It's a very cute restaurant. I went here on a Sat night before a show and got a spot at the bar. It was very busy but received attention very quickly. I was not hungry so just got an app of croquettes. They were good. I paired it with the house cab from Italy which was a little too dry. The bar stool became uncomfortable after an hour. The menu is a one pager and did not have a lot that interested me. Found this spot on a foot cruise after visiting Cloud Gate and the Cultural Center. It did not disappoint. Great spot for lunch a some cocktails. Menu has plenty of options, we opted for the pizza/flat breads as a shareable lunch. Staff were attentive, timely and friendly. The pizzas were super tasty. read more
Have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. Came this time for restaurant week and once again enjoyed the food - the filet medallion was tender enough to cut with a knife and the cauliflower soup was smooth and flavorful. The only part we didn't love was the almond tart - didn't really have much flavor to it. Came here for dinner and got the Dearborn burger with truffle fries. Also got a side of crispy brussel sprouts which came out soggy. The fries were nice and plentiful but not a ton of truffle flavor. Downtown Chicago, casual dining, food was OK the house burger, bread, fish and chips good. Why not 3 stars???? Because the service was the worst I have ever experienced. We told the server that we don't want to rush. It was a business dinner. They insisted on ordering main dishes that arrived before the appetizers were done. The this guys grabbed the left over appetizers very quick. Main dishes came and within 5 min the guy shows up again asking if we are done. This repeated about 10 times. The dessert menu appears when we got the main courses. With the annoying insistence of the guy to remove food from the table. Never coming back good luck with this place read more
I met a friend after work at The Dearborn in Downtown Chicago. We both enjoyed our meal. She had the fish and chips and I had a cheeseburger. Both were great. I also loved my mocktail but I can't remember the name. Thankfully I got a reservation because there were a lot of people dining after work. There may have been broadway play happening across the street too. But even with the crowd, my friend and I could hear our conversation which was great because we had plenty to catch up on! read more

Be careful here. Fries are cooked in the same oil as the chicken and the brussel sprouts are cooked on the same grill as the meat. Unless you want a salad my answer would be "none".
