The Davis has stood the test of time & many meals for us. The service is always friendly & knowledgeable. Menu is compact but has lots of delicious options - all good though we rarely go outside of our standbys...shrimp & grits, steak frites, chefs board, bourbon drinks. The salads are worth the add on as a split - great to share. Always feels like we made the right choice when we are done. Lunch is quieter but the room has a din in the evenings. Which is fine with me as it matches the bistro vibe I think. You should get the shoestring fries. Lots of their tables are high tops but they have a few booths and regular tables too. Went here for an anniversary dinner. I was nervous as limited indoor seating has just started back up but the dining area was spaced out and everything seemed clean and orderly. We had various small plates (mezza, sliders, wings, Brussels) and everything was sooo good. Spicy, crispy, sweet, and salty ..the food hit every note. Really great service too. I am grateful for the restaurants that are open during the pandemic. I have never been to Davis before and wasn't sure what to expect but the food was delicious! The restaurant was busy and the service was a bit slow but they are also working and giving us food during COVID-19 so anyone complaining about slow service or anything is just rude. This is an addendum to the five-star review I left in February. We've been back twice, and The Davis has become among our fave restaurants in town. However, we recently gave up alcohol and were tremendously disappointed to discover that Davis has no N/A beers. We just returned from a six-week road trip where we ate out nearly every night in California, Arizona and Oregon, and every single restaurant had a tasty N/A beer. There are so many options out there now, and so many people are giving up alcohol, it's a head scratcher why Davis isn't on the bandwagon. Also, a picky note: The paper menus at the Davis could use some copy editing. Plural nouns like entrees and oysters with apostrophes in them detract from the otherwise classy ambience. read more

This was a wonderful spot for a quick lunch. We sat outside on the temporary patio. It was perfectly shaded at 1 in the afternoon and the breeze kept us cool. There was only one server working so it was a little slow. By himself he did a great job though- seemed to be running back and forth from the kitchen constantly. The deviled eggs were hands down the best part of our meal. They had crispy pork on the top and that added a unique difference to the texture and flavor profile. The Davis is consistently amazing! My boyfriend got 6 oysters and the smoked chicken. I got the seared ahi summer roll. Everything was delicious and the presentation was phenomenal. Ok Rosalie R. I am giving The Davis a second look. And you are correct, everything in this world unless totally egregious needs at least a second look. Today being a Friday and at 1230, there are only two other patrons here. As I stated before, this is a great place in terms of ambiance, although parking can be a bear. The restaurant portion has had a bit of a remodel and the bar itself is in a different place than it was before. This time through I have ordered the Caesar and the braised short ribs. I also as usual have ordered my Arnie Palmer. Made with a tart lemon juice, tastes good, but right at my limits for tartness. Personal preference here folks. My Caesar comes out, see photo and I like to be able to have the biting saltiness of the sardines and this salad is perfect for that. Nice touch with the lemon wedge as well. Well dressed and shaved Parmesan this salad rocks. The warm olive oil infused bread was also a very nice touch on the salad. Service has been attentive and appropriate this time, your typical eclectic knee high sock wearing server. The service has been professional and warm at the same time. Much better than my last experience here. Now for the braised short ribs. Two words....fork tender deliciousness! OK that's three but you get the point. Tender, succulent and all around deliciousness abound in this meal and an unsung hero is the wonderfully sautéed potatoes that accompany your ribs. We tried to order the special appetizer, but they were out. I tried to order the special cocktail, but they were out. The rest of the menu did not intrigue me, so I went with the burger. It was good, not great, but just nice. My friend had the kabobs and hummus entree. That seemed to be really good. Dessert was a pot du crème. Very rich with hints of orange and dense chocolate. The staff were attentive and kind, very accommodating. We asked each other if we would return. Neither could be certain. Everything was fine and nothing tasted bad. All the food was expertly prepared. But overall, it was just kind of middle of the road nice good food. Nothing on the menu grabbed my attention. Taking a risk is risky, but at this price level, that is something I look for. If your Mom is finicky and doesn't want anything too exotic, this might a good place to take her. There are only a handful of places my wife and I eat at when trek to Eugene - which is often- and this is one. The menu is varied, something for everyone, cooked well, plated nicely, delivered hot. Drinks are done right. Prices are reasonable all around. (The meal below with drinks and another appetizer was about $65.). Atmosphere is very pleasant. Lighting is good. Live jazz on First Friday. At some point in time the overhead was tuned to some awful tech jam stuff that disrupted the dining experience, but as of our last visit, that has been remedied. Staff and management are friendly and helpful. I have noticed that places where a manager is present and watchful tend to excel, and this is an example. A good date place for adults. read more

The kabobs were absolutely exploding with flavor...everything on the plate was incredible on its own (kabobs, hummus, cucumber mint salad, curry naan, arugula salad), but formed a major celebration when combined into a piece of naan. Amazing! The salmon was cooked to perfection, juicy inside with crispy skin, and paired with silky potatoe purée and super roasty brussel sprouts to come together into a deeply rich and mellow mouthful, brightened up with some sort of a fruit glaze and dried fruit. Nice restaurant with enough space between tables to be comfortable. Service was excellent and friendly. We split the following: roasted beet salad: very well done with light citrus vinaigrette and soft goat cheese over arugula, red and golden beets. Crab roll: beautifully displayed and wonderful to look at. A bit meager on the Dungeness crab inside each roll and a tad too much cucumber. Risotto with mushrooms: absolutely PERFECT, creamy, tasty, lots of mushrooms with different varieties. The BEST risotto I have ever had so far in a restaurant. The Lychee Lantarn cocktail was not very special. Not bad, just not a lot of taste to it. And a weird foamy top layer to it. I will not order that again. Overall, a nice place. It was not very busy at 6:30-7ish on a Friday night and parking in the area/meter parking on the street after 6 is free. I just wish there was a better feel about the whole neighborhood: many smelly and homeless people loitering about and the police was out in full force. If this place would be in a better location, I wold be sure it would be a LOT more popular. As it is now, I only would return with a group of women or with some guys but would not feel safe going by myself. read more

It has been years since I've been to the Davis, and the first time was late at night when it is a bar with dancing, not a nice restaurant. I knew of someone that would take clients here for lunches and as I had only known it as a loud bar, I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of taking business clients here. So my husband and I tried it for dinner, early on a Friday night to avoid any crowds. Pros: seating is well spaced out, the artwork on the walls is beautiful, the wait staff were very nice and attentive, the happy hour is decent, and our food came relatively fast, the shoestring-type fries are delicious and the burger was good, if messy. Cons: visible signs of the wear and tear of the late-night crowd, the travelers in downtown can really ruin the vibe of what a nice restaurant should have, I ordered my burger well done and it had a decent amount of pink in it, the mac and cheese was very bland, and they were out of the first drink I ordered (Stella Artois) on a Friday night... Anyway, maybe if you come here to take advantage of happy hour apps and drinks, it's more worth your time. But we weren't too impressed by the food, but the people were very nice. read more

This restaurant had the most welcoming staff and absolutely delicious food! The salad was fresh and flavorful, with vegetables that came from the local market. We also had the cheddar biscuit pulled pork sandwiches, which were melt-in-your-mouth pieces of BBQ heaven. What we especially liked is that we came into town late and got to the restaurant right at closing time. The owner welcomed us in enthusiastically and treated us very well, with no rush whatsoever. This is an ok place. Probably the closest thing to a nicer bar from my time in San Diego than anything else here. It has nice dark wood trim and good lighting even at night. First time we visited I got a drink that was good but I didn't want to continue drinking alcohol all night since I was the DD - so I got a refill of just the soda from the drink and they charged me an additional $2 which is kinda lame after you already had an alcohol drink and you are DD but hey... whatever. I just got fries the first night we went. They are my fave... skinny and crispy. But $4 so be aware it isn't a huge portion but they were good. My friend got the pork tacos and they looked awesome. Plentiful with a good portion of meat but she said that it didn't have any flavor. The next time we went it was for a ladies happy hour. Someone got the beet salad at our table and that looked good. She also got the shrimp appetizer on the happy hour menu. They were good sized shrimp and looked like they were cooked properly and had great garlic butter scent. Another person got the spinach lentil things -- I wouldn't get these they were just tiny little cakes. The Sexy drink on the happy hour is grapefruity and yummy... but again I was driving so I stuck with water. We tried the mushroom puffs too -- my friend that ordered them did NOT like them. They had some kind of sweet sauce with them. BUT the puffs themselves were actually pretty good. I had the taquitos and they were okay... lacking in flavor again -- The Davis needs to learn to season meat. Anyway -- they were crispy and okay serving but at this point I would rather go to Riva's or some other taco shop and get some taquitos. Two of my friends had mac and cheese... now THAT was yummy and definitely the best item ordered there yet. It has a crunchy Parmesan type cheese on top and that was awesome. Small portion again but ok at happy hour. One of them also got a Caesar. Um No... unless you love you some anchovy don't bother. Seriously. WAY too fishy. Overall this place is okay. Boojie.... its okay but just not that impressive. I will be back but I probably won't go there for food. Just not impressed. BTW Thursday doesn't have Ladies night... so forget those reviews. For years I thought this place was just a bar to get drunk and dance at on the weekends. I had no clue it was an actual restaurant that served lunch and dinner. After hearing great reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to try it last night. We walked in about 7pm and there were at least 5 tables or so. We chose to sit up at the bar because that's more our style. We realized when we walked in that there was only one server who was also serving as the bartender. This woman worked her booty off! She totally rocked it all on her own. Her name was Vesalina (spelling?) and she was so nice. We sat down and she told us the drink special, which I ordered. It was house made blueberry/raspberry/strawberry vodka served on the rocks with a little fizz. It was SO good. My boyfriend ordered their Doug Fizz and after that got beer. During the first 30 or so minutes we were there, there was a gentleman sitting to our left who was clearly intoxicated. He was being loud, trying to talk to everyone, interrupting our date night. My boyfriend was so nice and tried to respond but eventually had to turn towards me just to not accidentally make eye contact with the guy and continue unwanted conversation. Veselina was SO nice... she noticed this, talked to the man (I assume this happens a lot because her and the other employees seemed to know him and be just as annoyed), and eventually she told him to take his to-go order and go home and eat it. She was nice to him, nice to us. Very very professional. If I could give just her 10 stars, I would. She was amazing. BACK TO THE FOOD! We ordered their baguette to start and their herb/salt butter was AWESOME! For dinner I ordered the chicken taquitos and my boyfriend got their burger. I have literally zero complaints about either... they were absolutely delicious. My boyfriend said it was the best burger he's had in Eugene!
