To preface, I am gen z so I don't complain about most bad restaurant experiences online. But don't take your business here. When my friends and I came here, all the staff was outside and gave us nasty looks when they had to go inside and do their job. Then the guy taking our order was so condescending, even tho we were very polite and let him know it was our first time here. Just today, I ran inside to get some water for my dog who was panting more than usual. They had small cups and complimentary water, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. The hipster looking older man asks me "oh did you come in here just for the water?" I said "yes, sorry my dog needs some" and he says "well next time let's not do that" in a very condescending tone. In the UK, or even California I would understand why we couldn't just get free water, but girl this is Indiana. There was no reason for the attitude, and what does he not like dogs or something?? LOVE the bagel sandwiches! I always make a mess dropping ingredients all over my face and lap, but I love the flavor combinations. Smoothies and frozen drinks are pretty expensive. Huge lack of iced tea options as they have to brew it hot and pour over ice, so it takes a while. Bathroom can sometimes be a bit grimy. Great little joint conveniently located in the soul-crushing shadow of the upcoming papier-mâché monstrosity known as the Village Promenade. It's certainly true that this place has improved upon the MT Cup; coffee's better, food's better, and the ambience is better. The coffee is pretty good. I like their Colombian, and the Highlander Grog is excellent for a flavored coffee. I've had better coffee elsewhere in the States, but for Muncie this is probably as good as it gets, and again it IS good. The breakfast sandwiches are my favorite part. Homemade bagels? REAL cheese? Fresh cooked eggs? Meat that actually tastes like meat? Optional fresh or sautéed veggies? It's amazing how far common sense can go toward making simple food taste so much better. My only gripe is the price. But hey, I don't care from what part of Muncie you're commuting, or TO which part you're going; if you have to pick up a breakfast sandwich on the way to work, take the extra time and spend the extra money to get it here. It's going to taste better and probably be better for you than wherever you're getting it from now. Not to mention you're supporting a local business rather than giving your money to CrapDonald's, who sure doesn't need it. That said, if you've a little more time to sit and eat, try out some of their other offerings. For breakfast, the tofu scramble is my favorite sit-down meal, and it comes with a generous pile of everything. I haven't had much in the way of their lunch menu, but I can recommend the Alaskan jewel (smoked salmon sandwich); the bread-to-fish ratio's a little high in favor of the bread, but it's still pretty darn tasty. Side note: they carry a small assortment of "uncommon" soda brands, like Ale-8-One and a couple I've never seen before but can't recall the names. If you're lucky, they might even have Cheerwine! (I've found it in there a time or three.) Please stop by and throw your money at them. They'll return the favor with good food and drink. The people are pretty cool too. read more

Having a local coffee place so close to campus yet not Starbucks is an amazing thing. The employees are always super friendly and will answer any questions and recommend drinks. I've been coming here for over a year and have sampled a lot of the menu. The Miel is a great drink but the Dirty Hippie is their signature. I recommend getting it with half powder because I don't like the sweetness of the regular mix. Their bagels and homemade cream cheese are superb and the hot food is great as well, just be prepared to wait because all food is made to order. They also sell ground and whole bean coffee and just recently introduced CBS oil and gummies! read more

I am a BIG fan of the Dirty Hippie and the Boo Radley! I used to frequent the Cup for these and the atmosphere! It is a perfect homework spot. Unfortunately I live too far in Muncie to have the time to walk to the cup, so I usually drive for convenience. I was unaware that paying customers are only allowed to park in the back for a certain amount of time. My vehicle was towed at my expense of $135. If you choose to visit, just be advised of the parking situation in the back! I would maybe suggest the Cup pin up a sign alerting their customers too :) But I would still recommend the coffee and eats if asked! read more

As has been noted, the Cup is a bit pricey. They have pretty good sandwiches, and their bagels have improved as of late. The pastries look pretty good, but I've never tried them. The coffee is generally pretty good, but the last time I ordered a cappuccino it had a very strange aftertaste. It was undrinkable. I probably should have asked for another one, but I was in a bit of a hurry. This is a pretty good place to study though it can sometimes be loud and you have to (in warmer months) wade through a throng of hipsters sitting not the lawn furniture out front. Really great atmosphere, definitely THE cool cafe you'd expect to see on a college campus! The chai lattes are absolutely fantastic and are my go to. However the prices are a bit high for both food and drinks, especially considering many of the customers are broke college students. But the ingredients seem pretty fresh, so it's definitely worth a splurge every now and then! read more

After what I experienced today I can tell you I am traumatized. It was 8:10PM today when me and my friend walked in to get a drink. We notice a worker come out from behind the counter and he said "hi give me just a moment," so like any patient customers my friend and I were like "sure no problem take your time." After he spent about 5 minutes at the sink he came up to the register and said "what can I get for you?" As he said this, I noticed some cuts on his hands and him trying to wipe them off with the paper towel. This should've been my first red flag. The moment I saw this happen I knew I should've left, but being the passive aggressive person I am I let it slide because I thought to myself "he's cleaning his cuts there's nothing to worry about." Anyways, he takes my smoothie order and I give him the money. He then uses one hand to give me back my change in a panic. I pick the change off the counter thinking "ok he must be bleeding really bad." I already knew in my mind this was not gonna be good because the state of panic this guy was in seemed like his bleeding was non stop. After that he takes my friends order, she got a miel. He gives her the change back. He goes over to the counter and starts making my drink. As he is making my drink, 2 of his coworkers walk inside. A girl and a guy. After he makes my drink and sets it on the counter, in a panicked state says to the male coworker that walked in "can you make the second drink?" So his male coworker says to my friend "what was the second drink?" She tells him it was a Miel and he proceeds to make it. I look down at my drink, and when I tell you by the Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, I saw BLOOD ON MY FUCKING LID. You guys, I really wish I was kidding. What's even worse is that I touched it thinking it was some sort of liquid they put in the smoothie. It wasn't, I wanted to tell myself it wasn't but it was. Oh lord jesus I couldn't believe it. I saw it coming. Anways, the male coworker that walked in AS he started making MY drink was making MY FRIENDS drink and I looked at him and said, "I really don't mean to be an asshole, but there is blood all over my lid." It wasn't a small amount it was a lot! He said back to me "that's definitely not being an asshole." He took it back and said that he would make me a new one, and the girl (who was one of the coworkers that walked in earlier) ended up remaking it while the male coworker was finishing my friends drink. Now I honestly feel like I should've been a lot more harsh and asked for my money back but I was in such a big state of shock that I really didn't think to ask because normally when someone cuts themselves, they use their common sense skills and try to prevent themselves from bleeding anymore so they can serve their customer a BLOOD FREE drink. Also one thing I really didn't appreciate was when the girl said to the guy that cut himself, "it's just a little on the side of the lid." Ummmmm that wasn't a little blood it was a lot, let's non discredit the fact that this happened to me so that you can make him feel better, it ain't about him. But then again she could have been saying that to the guy who cut himself because he already felt bad enough as it is. I just didn't appreciate that comment. Blood is dangerous especially if someone is sick or infected with something so you should take the precautionary measures so prevent it. All he had to say at the beginning of the transaction was "hello, so I currently cut myself and want to make sure I don't get anything in your drink, would you be willing to wait for my coworkers to show up and make it for you?" I would have had no issue with that, but what possessed you to make the drink knowing you cut yourself?? Common sense party of 1!!! Jesus Christ!!! One of the two coworkers who came when he made my drink said to him "why would you put a knife in a sink with water, that's why you don't do that cause there is a risk of cutting yourself." Yeah you explain that to him right after he gets blood on my lid, okay sure great timing!!! It's almost like they were trying to tell him that so they could deflect off what just happened. He lacked common sense, and he should've known better than to make my drink knowing he just cut himself. But Anyways I honestly should've just asked for my money back or said never mind at the beginning of the transaction when I saw him wiping his hands. Who am I to think people have common sense and know better. Who am I to think that when someone is bleeding they would do the smart thing like make sure they have completely stopped bleeding before touching someone's food or drink item that GOES INTO THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEM! I was so disgusted by this experience I started gagging the moment I left, and I came very close to even puking too. One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. A great reason to visit downtown Ball State. The staff is always super helpful, lots of good coffee choices, and the maple bacon cream cheese is amazing. Great place for interviews, friends meeting up, and families eating breakfast/lunch. Went there today to catch up with a friend in the area. I ordered the Adult Grilled Cheese, and was really excited about what all came on the sandwich (several cheese, sweet jam, and tomatoes, though I added bacon ). They were quite busy, and not many tables were open. I was bummed to see that the tables that were open had milk stains from a previous customer that had yet to be cleaned. The Cup is an improvement over the MT Cup, which always seemed in need of a good cleaning. (Those filthy floors: eckkk!!) The coffee is definitely better, too, and the staff are polite and friendly. It still has some room to grow, though: - I'm thrilled to find a place that makes its own bagels, but the Cup's bagels are on the tough side. They're fine for breakfast, but for a sandwich they're just too much. I hope the Cup bakers will continue to refine their bagel recipes, and why not offer homemade bread as a sandwich option, too? - I was very disappointed to find that carry-out orders are placed in large styrofoam containers. With a place that is trying to make a statement as hip and cool, why isn't any consideration given to products that are sustainably produced and have a limited impact on the environment? - Along those same lines, why not make an even bolder statement by featuring foods that are local and/or sustainably grown or raised? I love the cup! It is my usual go to place to study and relax with a good sandwich or coffee. HOWEVER, today I was treated extremely rudely by the staff after asking them to turn down their Japanese rock music. I was there many hours and watched multiple customers come in and complain about the music keeping them from able from having a constructive conversation and suitable work environment. Upon hearing this multiple times, I decided to ask the workers if it was possible to turn it down. Not only did the employees refuse, they also laughed at me and made jokes at my expense after I left. I like rock music, but not in a coffee house centered around producing a working environment. The Cup is my favorite coffeehouse in Muncie. It's unique for the artistic and intellectual people that tend to congregate here, reminding me of places that I have known from having lived in a succession of large cities, prior to making Muncie my home. The Cup's thoughtful management and staff offer patrons terrific upscale food and beverages, along with kind words and personalized service. I highly recommend the 'dirty hippy' - chai with a shot of espresso - and the turkey-pesto panini, although the general manager and/or the owner are always adding on new menu temptations. It's the Village, and parking can be challenging sometimes, but there's a locally owned bookstore and some other great places nearby. It's definitely worth a trip, even if it's just to visit the drive-thru window. read more

Since dropping the 'MT' (from the previous "MTCup") this little campus village coffee shop has really turned it around, and boy are they bustling - be prepared on some Weekends or even weekday mornings if ordering breakfast it may take a few more minutes (good for them!). I return again and again for their breakfast options: bagel egg sandwich, omellete, etc. I think the village has something special with The Cup's breakfast, one of Muncie's best early day meal spots. But this is where I come to the missing 5th star, their drinks are not consistent. This is a big problem when you are a coffee shop. He same beverage on three separate occasions tasted like 3 different drinks. So if you are looking for a great place to meet friends, grab a yummy breakfast meal or lunchtime snack, spend some time inside their art/lounge space or outside this is the perfect spot. read more
