Love this place. Great beer, cool decor, lots of games for the kids and decent food. But I think I am taking my business elsewhere after the way I was treated yesterday. Our waitress was kinda short with us when she brought over the menus. Ok, busy day I get it. I order a Blanc du Nord wheat beer. She brings me some kind of Pilsner. I know wheat beer, I know Blanc de Nord. This was not a Blanc du nord. On the picture you can see what I was served and what a Blanc du Nord looks like. So I ask her if she is sure she gave me a wheat beer. She snaps at me "oh yeah, that's a wheat beer, what do you expect?" I say: "a wheat beer is unfiltered...." She goes: "it IS a wheat beer!" Ok- she doesn't know beer, no big deal. I go over to the bar, explain what happened to I think was the manager. He checks and pours a small glass from the corresponding tap, and out comes the Pilsner they served me. "Looks like you got the right beer." They must have connected the wrong keg, I assume, but at this point I give up on drinking my witbier and just stick with the malty Pilsner I got. Waitress must have noticed me going to the bar, because she acted super pissed at me for the rest of our time there. When u I asked if the fish fry could be blackened fish instead of fried (as they do for the shrimp) she yelled at me that this wasn't possible. My 8 year old asked why I was in trouble with the waitress. Ordered the grilled chicken instead which came out 10 mins after the other food. No apology. Never asked if I wanted another drink... It was super uncomfortable. I get it, you don't have to be friendly, because there is a line outside, but you can still try. But I've been going to this place since it opened, also in March and February, when it is empty in there. Not again. read more

We had a great experience. Spicy Bloody Mary was excellent. Cheese curds were very fresh and large portion. We had shrimp tacos and Nashville hot chicken. Both were great. Got denied a table for wearing a "Golf of America" shirt. Walked into The Craftsman at 7:30 on a Saturday and I noticed one of the waitresses give a very subtle comment to the hostess, the 3 of us (40 year olds) politely asked if we could get a table. The hostess said they are not seating any more tables for the night and gave us apologies. I thought it was pretty early to be done seating people but assumed maybe a lot of the people were at the bar waiting to be seated so I kindly said "ok thanks anyway" and we left and found a different place to grab some food. My husband said he thought we got denied because of my shirt which was royal blue, tucked into my jeans and said Gulf of America. To test this theory out I waited about 10 minutes and called the restaurant. I told the hostess I was down the road at The Pontoon Saloon and 3 of us were wondering if we could get a table if we came there right away. I hate when my husband is right but sure enough, she said yes, if we came soon she could get us a table for 3 for supper. My husband, my friend and I had a good laugh about this foolishness but really it's pretty said and stupid we got denied a table for my simple non-inappropriate shirt. read more

Visited Eagle River over Labor Day weekend during Covid. Was impressed when I found this place as the curbside appeal is amazing as was the interior. Brought 5 people with me and I wish I could be positive....but..... I ordered the street tacos (with chicken). Zero flavor. ZERO! I'm no food snob but cmon!! No seasoning at all!?!?! My wife ordered. Hamburger and said it was the same....zero flavor. So if you can't even do a hamburger right........ Ordered pecan pie slice while initially ordering as well...waitress told me to wait until after eating main course to order. Seriously.....I'm trying to give your place additional revenue...... Food took an insane amount of time to come out as well...around 45 minutes. Industry average for a good restaurant is 12-15 minutes. Afterwards we were asked if we "saved room for dessert" as the waitress stared a hole through me and i said "Yup, still want my pecan pie slice." We then waiting 29 minutes (yup, I timed it!) for a slice of cold pecan pie to be brought out. Bottom Line: if you like very bland food and have 2-3 hours to kill...great place! I was skeptical after reading the other Yelp reviews, but after eating there today, I suggest you ignore the complaints about slow service, bland food and high prices. The service at this place is excellent considering how short staffed they are. People who complain about service levels at small businesses like this almost certainly didn't do any work until their stimulus checks stopped. Extend a little grace to small business owners who had the guts to stay open and deal with such self entitled whiners. As for bland, the food is very tasty and the beer selection is very good. The food was not bland, but if yours is, I'm sure it's not intentional. Again, extend grace to small businesses that are clearly not slacking off or throwing in the towel. This place has a very nice atmosphere and the passion that the owners have for this business is obvious. If you think this place is too expensive, it's probably because you spent all your free money, and have been hiding at home for the past two years while small businesses like this have been dealing with crippling inflation and regulations. read more

Nice place. Interior is comfortable and nicely decorated. Cocktails were tasty and the beer selection was good. The food was decent but not great. We got an order of the cajun buffalo blue tots. They were just average and did not have enough blue cheese to make them special. Then we split an order of the green chili bacon quesadillas. Again, just nothing special. We came back later in the week to try a real entree because they place does have a cool vibe and we thought that perhaps we just hit them on an off night. We split the ribs. Now, the ribs were pretty good. Tender and moist but not much of a smokey flavor. The side salad was also good. The problem was the potatoes. They didn't have much flavor. We are "up north" to relive our childhood summers in St. Germain, Wi. We are staying between St. Germain and Eagle River, WI. We ran out of deli meat so we thought we would try the Craftsman in Eagle River Wisconsin for lunch! We walked in and saw only a few tables that had patrons. But then we were told that it would be anywhere from 15-30 minutes because they were short staffed. We almost left but decided that we weren't in a hurry. We were able to sit at a table and wait for a server to arrive. After about 20 minutes Allen , our server, popped up. He was fantastic. He was full of energy and spunk! He made us feel at home a his great sense of humor made us laugh. The ambiance is kind of sports barish but with an upscale feel. The decor is north woods with a modern vibe. We ordered the fried cheese curds , because my lil sis and I always order the fried cheese curds. These were really good. The curds made second on my long list of fried cheese curds, second only to the "Nook" restaurant in St. Paul, MN. I had the tenderloin open faced sandwich. It was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. It was served on a piece of buttered Texas toast with the steak juices soaking it to perfection. It came with what I call cottage fries. My hubby ordered the Eagle River Club Sandwich and a side salad and said it was excellent. Another person in our party had the Chicken fajitas and gobbled them up saying" kudos to the chef these are luscious ". My sister ordered a burger that was to die for! The Logging Camp Breakfast it had bacon, a fried egg, cheese, hash browns and some other delicious stuff. It won the prize for best order at our table! What a great time we had. The food was fantastic. And our server ALLEN was voted server of the day...by us! When you are in Eagle River Wisconsin be sure to eat at the Craftsman, you won't be disappointed! We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday evening in the summer. I had the flatbread pizza and it was very good. I was hoping it would be a little bigger for the price, but the quality was amazing. So many gluten-free offerings! The owner or one of their loved ones has celiac, so almost everything can be made GF! We always get the Parmesan truffle tater tots and I got the sausage and veggie flatbread last time, and then the pork Mac and cheese last night. Delicious. One thing is that the waitress told me the chicken bacon ranch Mac (my original order) wasn't GF because of the breading on the chicken, but it is labeled as GF on the menu, not even "GF available" so that is a MASSIVE red flag for safety. She also told me the tater tots were in a shared frier and then brought us them and said they weren't actually. More training for the staff, and also changing the menu to reflect actual GF offerings would be important. read more

Trendy gastropub feel with full bar- a nice modern restaurant in a small town! Pros: the interior design is beautiful! Stunning wood accent wall and beautiful bar. The bathrooms are large and clean, they supplied feminine products and diapers which was a nice touch-much appreciated. They have a HUGE shuffleboard, absolutely stunning and a fun touch. Cons: do consider this is during covid where every place is understaffed, but even considering this the service was SO slow. We arrived at 3:30 to ensure we could get a spot during this busy Fourth of July holiday. They allowed us to pick our table, so the six of us sat at a table on the patio. We had been ordering drinks since they don't serve food until 4:30. We assumed since we were sitting at a table and the staff knew we were there we would be able to stay at that table for dinner. No one informed us that had to officially put our name in at 4:30, so coming an hour early was no benefit. Then, we began to order appetizers at the bar once 4:30 hit-again no one told us we had to put our names in for dinner. Finally at 5ish we tried to order food and they told us (despite sitting at a table since 3:30) we would have to get on a list and wait an hour. We did so and once we finally got a server placed an order right away. Food came out extremely slow. My quesadilla was very good but the rest got tacos and we're disappointed. Apparently they were bland and too spicy. All in all; trendy spot with a fun atmosphere good for drinks and appetizers but maybe not dinner. Beware of very slow service! read more

I've been to Craftsmen several times. Beer selection and drinks are excellent. Food is average at best and definitely not worth the price. The service is internally focused. The staff communicate with ear pieces which gives this place an impersonal vibe. When the place is busy they seat way more than the kitchen can handle causing very long wait times for food. This summer my wife waited an hour after ordering and no apology from the waitress. I will choose to support the many other restaurants in Eagle River that make you feel welcome. read more

I wish we found this place at the beginning of our visit to Eagle River. We loved everything about it. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. Inside and outside dining atmosphere is pleasant. I had the most delicious blueberry mule cocktail (two actually). The food was really good, excellent onion rings. We went back the next day and there was a 45 minute wait at 4:30 because there was a party of 21 and 12 ahead of us. I was a little surprised at first that they wouldn't seat us as a party of 2 anyway, but the hostess explained that they couldn't accommodate all the people and I appreciate that they didn't seat us and then make us wait for everything because of the large groups ahead of us. Stopped in yesterday for dinner and was told I could sit and order at the bar. Once I got the bartender's attention he said I could only order appetizers. I left without even ordering. Our favorite dinner/drink spot in town! Always delicious food here. Cheese curds are tasty and come in a large portion. The burgers never disappoint. I recently tried the pizza with sausage and fresh mozzarella, highly recommend! The pizza is a perfect portion for one or maybe two people. They serve "American fries" which are diced red potatoes. They are probably the only disappointing thing they serve. We opt for the side salad with their delicious ranch. The cocktails are delicious and creative. Be sure to get a drink with cherries in it, they use some type of delicious real cherries (not your average maraschino cherries). Besides the good food, we come here to play ping pong and pool. We were visiting in the area we was going to catch 22 not knowing they've been closed for a while.. we search for another place to eat came across the craftsman great outdoor seating just a little cold for me this time of year thou people was out there When we got there he told us 20 minutes for a table so he decided to sit at the bar Most tables are all high tops ( FYI) We order drinks ps they was out of my wine but so was the liquor store We asked for the menu at this point the bar is a really cool set up so we figured we would eat there But at the bar you can only have appetizers ‍ .. so I ask why ? With this i think the owner said it was fine .. so we order great service food was delicious But ... couple of gentlemen the man sat at the end of the bar and they also wanted to have dinner at the bar .. she turned them down .. then shit hit the fan .. our food came out and they got pissed .. ask us if that was an Appetizer I told him no but if he asked him maybe he would sit at the bar to eat also .. with that being he told them no just. Appetizers .. So they left mad never ate didn't even finish there drinks not sure what the difference is pushing the button for an appetizer or putting in a dinner plate ‍ Not sure if that was a great call on his behalf. Food was absolutely horrible. I ordered the 1848 (I think thats what it was called) and it was super dry, the bacon was so hard I almost chipped a tooth, and there were 2 cheese curds on it which were nasty soggy (like deep fried 2hours ago). I upgraded to chips with fresh onion dip and the chips were cold and stale. My husband orders a steak sandwich and it had no flavor. He upgraded to tater tots and we truly believe they bought them in the frozen section at Trigs. Don't waste your time on over priced shit. A local owed business who screws over life long locals. We will never go back and will definitely get the word out. read more
