Do yourself a favor and play a round at this incredible golf course. They have such great views. The track is playing well right now. It's well manicured. They take great care of the golfers. I have nothing but incredible things to say about the course. Cheers!

Top of the hill!

Unique is an understatement. Awesome Golf Course! Tucked away in the Livermore foothills, surrounded by vineyards. My first impression was... WOW! Prestine fairways & Fast Greens. Scenery has to be one of the best in the entire SF Bay Area. Give this hidden Gem a try. Shoot below an 82 and count it a good day. Wins is tough in the back 9. Thank you Wente, I'll be back. ‍

Someone treated me to this course and can I say it's the best course I've ever played in my life!\ Beautiful maintained greens. The staff was so courteous. They even touched up our clubs at the end of the round. The view, oh my goodness it was so peaceful. Golf carts were so advanced that we could get exact distance location it felt like I was in the future. It's pricey but oh ,an will I return!

At 14th hole, I believe.

Beautifully maintained course. Morning rounds are around $150 with cart and free range. What a great deal! Had fun with friend last Sunday. Gorgeous to play, perfect for spending a romantic day golfing with your man, the drives are not very long, ideal for ladies who may have shorter driver range... Very polite and attentive staff, private club feel in a public course, at such low cost. Loved it.

Very nice and scenic golf course in Livermore. Definitely some challenging holes nestled in the hills of Livermore. What I like are that there are no houses in the area! My favorites are hole 1 and 18. The most challenging holes in my opinion are 6 and 14. You must hit precision shots on those holes or you'll be in trouble. The day I went the greens were aerated so they were terrible. But normally they are good.

This is hands down the beat course in the Bay Area. It's got a $150ish price tag on it, but it is worth every penny. The course is immaculate from the tee box to the greens this is very well maintained. They have GPS carts which is also nice especially if you haven't played the course before. The staff was very nice, although it did make me want to become a member seeing how well those folks are treated! Not that I was treated bad, but you know, being a member has its perks. Overall I had a blast at this course and the pace of play was stellar. No waiting and no getting pushed. Truly an awesome round of golf. I've already booked my next tee time here. Can't wait to be back out on this course.

Excellent course...well maintained. I would rate it as one of the best public courses in the Bay Area. Not cheap, but well worth the money if you are looking for a good challenge, beautiful views and just a great day of golf. Wife & I really enjoy sitting on the patio having lunch and a glass of wine after the round. If you love golf, you need to checkout The Course at Wente Vineyards.

But don't think they are affliliated as the signages seems pretty separate. Balls dispensed through a machine that can take cards. Slightly better value than in my area, where I can get about 10 extra balls for the same price of $11 for a medium bucket. My area gives me 50 balls, here I got 60. They have both grass and mats here, which caught me by surprise as I haven't seen a grass range in over 10 years. They are just much more maintenance for a place to have, and my area for sure no longer have them. So I applaud them for having them here. But on an early weekend morning, that grass area was completely full, with people in line even for the stalls. There were only 10-12 stalls, so I'm pretty sure that the demand exceeds the space. The matted area was another 30-40 yards away. You're hitting into an open field facing the freeway. There are many palm trees out there so I did find targets to go for. Except there's no yardage postings, so I was going by feel. The whole point in going to a driving range is so you can work on your yardages, so I dock and reward ranges that may or may not give you this benefit. There's a small chipping area that also gets occupied readily. I may have to check this place out on a weekday mid-day sometime. The putting green was just okay, decent to work out some basics, but nothing like a course you'd play on. I had a decent practice session here, except in the summer morning I went, the matted area was very wet, probably they hose it down to clean it, which is fine. But my matt was pretty saturated so not sure on how it affected my contacts. Also when I left and got home, and because I was wearing shorts, I had several insect bites around my ankles and calf areas, on both legs. I'm assuming mosquitos because everything was so moist and wet, but left me itching and scratching for several days to follow. I hardly ever get bites even during camping, so to get them from a driving range, makes me weary on returning.

$16 for a jumbo bucket of 150 balls. Best deal this side of the Mississippi! And real grass to hit…read moreoff! Stalls can be a bit narrow would be my only concern.

Beautiful course and a fantastic practice facility. Having visited regularly prior to the remodel,…read moreI love almost everything they did to improve the overall player experience. However, I do have two quick pieces of feedback: 1) I wish the prices were a bit more affordable. While a slight price increase after a remodel is understandable, dropping them just a bit would make the course much more approachable for regulars. 2) I had an uncomfortable encounter while practicing recently. A staff member approached me to say there was a 10-ball limit on the chipping green. When I told him I wasn't aware and asked if I had missed a rule post, he pointed to a sign between the range and the green that read, "Don't remove range balls from the range" and said "That sign clearly says the rules." Then he counted the 15 (personal) balls I brought and said "you're over the limit." I was caught off-guard by his tone, and left feeling frustrated by that experience. If there is a strict ball limit for personal property on the chipping green, it should be clearly published somewhere. That would be my suggestion so others do not encounter a similar experience.

However as soon as we checked we decided to grab some food and drinks. Asked one of the guys who worked there which direction the first tee was it was almost like he was annoyed to answer our question. He replied look at the sign it says it right there. Ok.... We got to the first tee and the starter was there to welcome us. Told us the rules of the course and what to expect on the greens. We teed offed the first hole and for whatever reason ended up on the wrong side of the cart path. As we approached our balls in the fairway we noticed there was no opening for us to drive our carts onto the fairway. We later learned we should have gone the other way because there wasn't clear signage and we ended up driving through "wildlife" or whatever the call it. Literally just dead grass.. We get to our ball and as we hit we notice the Marshall was there waiting for us. He asks us to come over and immediately tells us if you guys don't want to follow the rules you guys don't have to play here. He proceeds to tell us the starter specially told you not to drive through it and if you guys don't follow rules we will be kicked off the course. We tried to first explain ourselves and without even letting us finish he says I don't care what you have to say. I'm tired of people not following the rules. He then proceeds to tell us that he was retired PD. At this point I am just shocked at how he is talking to us like we committed a serious crime. Finally we get to tell him that we went up the wrong side of the cart path and that we didn't see an opening for us to drive through. At this point he calms down and says ok I see what you mean. Tells us that there are rules here and we shouldn't drive through any wildlife. Honestly just the two interactions alone just ruined our day because I couldn't believe how we were being treated. We completely accepted the fact we were in the wrong and apologized to the Marshall but the fact he treated us like that was bullshit. As we drove away he even asked us where we were from. Why the fuck does that even matter? For how much they charge on this course it is definitely not worth it. Thank god we were NCGA members and didn't pay full price. I will stick to going back to Wente and play there for a better experience. Never playing at poppy again

Whoa, totally surprised I haven't reviewed this course yet. A lot has to do with I haven't played…read morehere in over 20 years. But in my first 5-7 years on taking up the game (95'-02'ish), we played here often, as this is a great course to learn on for several reasons. 1) It is only 9 holes, so you don't have to commit to a long 5-hour round on a big course. And when one is a beginner, 18 holes can be grueling. 2) The course is wide open, lots of room to err, without much penalty areas. Now there are areas you have to watch out for, but still much more generous than most other courses. 3) Lots of other not-so-good golfers here. So even if you suck, you won't really be holding up snooty better golfers, who will often press your pace. So be prepared for a slower round here, can't be in hurry here. 4) Cheaper green fees. Currently in 2026 it was $20 to walk on a weekday morning. Not sure what it is on weekends. It doesn't get any cheaper to play, especially out here in the Bay Area. Now for better players, this is still not a bad place to practice and hone your short game. I took my regular Monday crew here, as 1 of them had never been, and the other golf mate hadn't been in a long time, just like me. And we had a great time. For a 9 holer, there are 3 short par 4s. The rest are par 3s and they are really not that easy. Some of them are longer like 170+ yards, and almost all the greens are bowled/raised so it looks like a turtles hump. So a little tougher on getting your ball to stick to your target. You'll be doing a lot of chipping and pitching, which is all great practice for your short game. This course is in the middle of horse racetrack, at the Alameda Co. Fairgrounds. Great way to make use of otherwise dead space. Now when the fair is going on during the summer, I'm sure this course will close down. But the rest of the year, it is open. There is also a driving range/practice facility. But haven't used those yet. Locals seem to use it. And since it is inside the racetrack, in order to get inside, you'll have to drive under a one way tunnel. Which used to be scary back in the day, as you had to honk to warn the other direction that you were going through. Now there is a traffic light that directs traffic, which eliminates guessing and having to back up inside a tunnel. A nice course that has stood the test of time and is still serving a very specific purpose...to teach and prep newer golfers by providing a relaxed and beginner friendly environment. To that I gotta give props.

Apparently every hole at this course has a birdie waiting to happen…read more Just put down the ball. Pick a club. Hit the shot precisely. Put club back in your bag. Have your playing partners get excited thinking you aced it. Pose for photo. Post on Yelp and fb. Send pick to your family
