Laspo is my type of golf course. It ain't fancy shmancy but they offer a bang for your buck! For the amount of damage that this course endured with all the rainstorms earlier this year, it is fairly maintained. There were a few holes with some necessary repair but overall, not bad at all. Fairways are tight and those greens are tricky! Pace of play here sucks. There was a tournament going on the day I played but after reading some reviews, that seems to be a common issue here. Something to keep in mind if you are a picky golfer. I've always seen this course off the freeway and glad I finally gave it a try. I'd definitely play here again, it's modest and affordable. Beware of the wild turkeys! I've heard great things about Beeb's. It's a large restaurant with patio dining, several TVs and a full scale bar. I just did my chilled tequila shot to end the round but I'll have to stick around and try the buffalo chicken sando next time.

First time golfing in almost a year, and had an absolute best time golfing here! I've always seen this course from the freeway and finally got a chance to give it a go. The course itself is not super easy. While it's links style, there's plenty of fairway bunkers, hazards, and tight fairways that can make the round tough if you can't keep it straight off the tee. The rain this year flooded parts of the course and they are slowly working themselves back. The greens were nice for a public course, and sneaky fast at some points. For $75 on the weekend for 18 holes and a cart, it's definitely one of the more affordable weekend golf rates in the bay. The tri valley does get super hot at times, so trying to snag a early tee time would be ideal. The pace of play was a lil slow due to a tournament but I didn't mind bc I really enjoyed the company I was with. Overall, I'd definitely play this course again.

Back 9 is more open. Rip it.

I've played here many times but mostly back from 2000-2005. Tried it again after many years of not, so wanted to solidify some notes into an official review. Full 18 hole public course that's been servicing this area of Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton. I actually thought this was in Pleasanton, but pretty much near a border that sits on the Livermore side. Notes: It is next to 580 so several holes will be right next to a busy freeway. Usually not my cup of tea for a relaxing golf outing. I liked the back 9 better than the front 9. The front 9 has more marshland terrain and a few shots in the beginning holes are blind. Unless you're a regular here, you either have to guess on where to land it or hopefully someone in your group has somewhat of an idea. Golf is hard enough to pull off, it becomes not fun when our 'guessing' becomes penalizing. The back 9 is much more open and straight forward. The front 9, where the marshlands were, were very moist and a tad muddy. Even in early fall when we visited in early October before any significant rains. I bet this course is a mess during the winter. The back 9 used to have a ton more trees back in the day, mostly tall and shady eucalyptus trees. The hard winter of 2023 played havoc on many of those trees, either knocking down heavy branches or knocking the tree to the ground due of excessively soft soil due to water. You can actually still see remnants of chopped up lumber in piles in a few areas. Now I know it wasn't their choice to knock down trees but it does expose a lot more of that roaring freeway adjacent to it. Before it was more secluded and had more of a forest vibe. Place is pricier than I remember. But so are a ton of other things in this modern economy. But it cost me between $60-$65 to play on a weekday morning with a cart to share with a buddy. A cheaper place for us is around the low $50s like Redwood Canyon in Castro Valley or San Ramon Golf Club. We try and not spend more than $75 for a weekday round, unless it is for an occasional splurge. I think Callippe in Pleasanton is close to this same price and Callippe is a much more upscale course. Food area is cool as it is a full sports bar called Beeb's. I only got a hot dog and a beer for the turn, and it took a borderline long time as you're trying to get back out there without losing your place in flow. Most places have this dog ready to go, here it seems like they make it to order from the restaurant kitchen. Fresh and delicious it was, but it took much longer to receive it than most other places. I would sit and hang out more on another visit to try more food and drinks, but Beeb's is a different and separate listing so this rating will remain just for the course. It sufficed but not my choice for a round given the options for the area.

It is beautifully maintained and a unique gorgeous geography to the course. The pro shop and golf shop are very nice. Everything is very well-maintained. The only hesitation I have in giving it an additional star was the service level. When I got to the bag drop off, there were two young men talking. I opened my trunk and they never looked up and I asked if they could get my bag and then they look kind of surprised and one of them helped me. I ran into another woman that was playing in our group and she said they did the same thing to her. She ended up taking her bag out and putting it on the cart and they never attempted to help her. Also, when we started playing there was a food drink cart girl out on the course. When we got to the cart, she was eating and getting her water ready and never asked us if we wanted anything. After we finished playing on the Green, she was still there eating her breakfast and getting a her special drink together. Never asked if we wanted anything. Over three hours later, we ran into her and told her that we wish you had come earlier cause some of us were hungry I had to share a sandwich that I brought. She said it was a good thing. I brought the sandwich because all she had was snacks. For some reason, we were also put behind a fivesome and we were three threesomes when he asked the Marshall about that he said don't they let men go out as fivesome at our course? Interest though you these men were worse slower golfers than any of the ladies in our groups, it was very slow. Even with these issues, it was a wonderful day a beautiful course and I would go play again

But don't think they are affliliated as the signages seems pretty separate. Balls dispensed through a machine that can take cards. Slightly better value than in my area, where I can get about 10 extra balls for the same price of $11 for a medium bucket. My area gives me 50 balls, here I got 60. They have both grass and mats here, which caught me by surprise as I haven't seen a grass range in over 10 years. They are just much more maintenance for a place to have, and my area for sure no longer have them. So I applaud them for having them here. But on an early weekend morning, that grass area was completely full, with people in line even for the stalls. There were only 10-12 stalls, so I'm pretty sure that the demand exceeds the space. The matted area was another 30-40 yards away. You're hitting into an open field facing the freeway. There are many palm trees out there so I did find targets to go for. Except there's no yardage postings, so I was going by feel. The whole point in going to a driving range is so you can work on your yardages, so I dock and reward ranges that may or may not give you this benefit. There's a small chipping area that also gets occupied readily. I may have to check this place out on a weekday mid-day sometime. The putting green was just okay, decent to work out some basics, but nothing like a course you'd play on. I had a decent practice session here, except in the summer morning I went, the matted area was very wet, probably they hose it down to clean it, which is fine. But my matt was pretty saturated so not sure on how it affected my contacts. Also when I left and got home, and because I was wearing shorts, I had several insect bites around my ankles and calf areas, on both legs. I'm assuming mosquitos because everything was so moist and wet, but left me itching and scratching for several days to follow. I hardly ever get bites even during camping, so to get them from a driving range, makes me weary on returning.

However as soon as we checked we decided to grab some food and drinks. Asked one of the guys who worked there which direction the first tee was it was almost like he was annoyed to answer our question. He replied look at the sign it says it right there. Ok.... We got to the first tee and the starter was there to welcome us. Told us the rules of the course and what to expect on the greens. We teed offed the first hole and for whatever reason ended up on the wrong side of the cart path. As we approached our balls in the fairway we noticed there was no opening for us to drive our carts onto the fairway. We later learned we should have gone the other way because there wasn't clear signage and we ended up driving through "wildlife" or whatever the call it. Literally just dead grass.. We get to our ball and as we hit we notice the Marshall was there waiting for us. He asks us to come over and immediately tells us if you guys don't want to follow the rules you guys don't have to play here. He proceeds to tell us the starter specially told you not to drive through it and if you guys don't follow rules we will be kicked off the course. We tried to first explain ourselves and without even letting us finish he says I don't care what you have to say. I'm tired of people not following the rules. He then proceeds to tell us that he was retired PD. At this point I am just shocked at how he is talking to us like we committed a serious crime. Finally we get to tell him that we went up the wrong side of the cart path and that we didn't see an opening for us to drive through. At this point he calms down and says ok I see what you mean. Tells us that there are rules here and we shouldn't drive through any wildlife. Honestly just the two interactions alone just ruined our day because I couldn't believe how we were being treated. We completely accepted the fact we were in the wrong and apologized to the Marshall but the fact he treated us like that was bullshit. As we drove away he even asked us where we were from. Why the fuck does that even matter? For how much they charge on this course it is definitely not worth it. Thank god we were NCGA members and didn't pay full price. I will stick to going back to Wente and play there for a better experience. Never playing at poppy again

But in my first 5-7 years on taking up the game (95'-02'ish), we played here often, as this is a great course to learn on for several reasons. 1) It is only 9 holes, so you don't have to commit to a long 5-hour round on a big course. And when one is a beginner, 18 holes can be grueling. 2) The course is wide open, lots of room to err, without much penalty areas. Now there are areas you have to watch out for, but still much more generous than most other courses. 3) Lots of other not-so-good golfers here. So even if you suck, you won't really be holding up snooty better golfers, who will often press your pace. So be prepared for a slower round here, can't be in hurry here. 4) Cheaper green fees. Currently in 2026 it was $20 to walk on a weekday morning. Not sure what it is on weekends. It doesn't get any cheaper to play, especially out here in the Bay Area. Now for better players, this is still not a bad place to practice and hone your short game. I took my regular Monday crew here, as 1 of them had never been, and the other golf mate hadn't been in a long time, just like me. And we had a great time. For a 9 holer, there are 3 short par 4s. The rest are par 3s and they are really not that easy. Some of them are longer like 170+ yards, and almost all the greens are bowled/raised so it looks like a turtles hump. So a little tougher on getting your ball to stick to your target. You'll be doing a lot of chipping and pitching, which is all great practice for your short game. This course is in the middle of horse racetrack, at the Alameda Co. Fairgrounds. Great way to make use of otherwise dead space. Now when the fair is going on during the summer, I'm sure this course will close down. But the rest of the year, it is open. There is also a driving range/practice facility. But haven't used those yet. Locals seem to use it. And since it is inside the racetrack, in order to get inside, you'll have to drive under a one way tunnel. Which used to be scary back in the day, as you had to honk to warn the other direction that you were going through. Now there is a traffic light that directs traffic, which eliminates guessing and having to back up inside a tunnel. A nice course that has stood the test of time and is still serving a very specific purpose...to teach and prep newer golfers by providing a relaxed and beginner friendly environment. To that I gotta give props.
