I am easy to please when it comes to driving ranges - this spot is unassuming and casual. They have plenty of slots with grass to hit from and mats with shade. I don't typically like hitting off mats so I can't speak on those but the grass is good most of the time, sometimes it is too patchy to hit comfortably. Staff is super nice! There's typically only one person working so if they're not in the store, they are out on the range collecting balls, be patient with them. They have some loner clubs for travelers or people like myself who had their clubs stolen :( lol They're crappy but nice that they offer them! They also have a small selection of local brews to sip on. Buckets are inexpensive! A huge bucket is only $14. I love that you can just go to the ball dispenser and get your own stuff without talking to anyone. It takes card & apple pay!

    Practice time for tomorrow.

Used to be my go to spot to practice until Pleasanton Golf Center became my preferred spot. Balls are a bit old and unwashed...My hybrid face got scratched. Limited stalls for mat hitters who don't want to hit on uneven turf. Has seen better days but is still a good location to hit balls. The owners should up the game a little.

Grass range all the time, chipping and putting, plus a bunker to practice. For a muni driving range it has everything you need.

Conditions have been bad over the past year I have been stopping by here. Rarely ever hitting on grass, mostly hitting on dirt and weeds.

Low key and a good, standard driving range. Prices are fair and make sure to bring your own rubber tee or buy one for 2.

Beautiful course and a fantastic practice facility. Having visited regularly prior to the remodel,…read moreI love almost everything they did to improve the overall player experience. However, I do have two quick pieces of feedback: 1) I wish the prices were a bit more affordable. While a slight price increase after a remodel is understandable, dropping them just a bit would make the course much more approachable for regulars. 2) I had an uncomfortable encounter while practicing recently. A staff member approached me to say there was a 10-ball limit on the chipping green. When I told him I wasn't aware and asked if I had missed a rule post, he pointed to a sign between the range and the green that read, "Don't remove range balls from the range" and said "That sign clearly says the rules." Then he counted the 15 (personal) balls I brought and said "you're over the limit." I was caught off-guard by his tone, and left feeling frustrated by that experience. If there is a strict ball limit for personal property on the chipping green, it should be clearly published somewhere. That would be my suggestion so others do not encounter a similar experience.

However as soon as we checked we decided to grab some food and drinks. Asked one of the guys who worked there which direction the first tee was it was almost like he was annoyed to answer our question. He replied look at the sign it says it right there. Ok.... We got to the first tee and the starter was there to welcome us. Told us the rules of the course and what to expect on the greens. We teed offed the first hole and for whatever reason ended up on the wrong side of the cart path. As we approached our balls in the fairway we noticed there was no opening for us to drive our carts onto the fairway. We later learned we should have gone the other way because there wasn't clear signage and we ended up driving through "wildlife" or whatever the call it. Literally just dead grass.. We get to our ball and as we hit we notice the Marshall was there waiting for us. He asks us to come over and immediately tells us if you guys don't want to follow the rules you guys don't have to play here. He proceeds to tell us the starter specially told you not to drive through it and if you guys don't follow rules we will be kicked off the course. We tried to first explain ourselves and without even letting us finish he says I don't care what you have to say. I'm tired of people not following the rules. He then proceeds to tell us that he was retired PD. At this point I am just shocked at how he is talking to us like we committed a serious crime. Finally we get to tell him that we went up the wrong side of the cart path and that we didn't see an opening for us to drive through. At this point he calms down and says ok I see what you mean. Tells us that there are rules here and we shouldn't drive through any wildlife. Honestly just the two interactions alone just ruined our day because I couldn't believe how we were being treated. We completely accepted the fact we were in the wrong and apologized to the Marshall but the fact he treated us like that was bullshit. As we drove away he even asked us where we were from. Why the fuck does that even matter? For how much they charge on this course it is definitely not worth it. Thank god we were NCGA members and didn't pay full price. I will stick to going back to Wente and play there for a better experience. Never playing at poppy again

Whoa, totally surprised I haven't reviewed this course yet. A lot has to do with I haven't played…read morehere in over 20 years. But in my first 5-7 years on taking up the game (95'-02'ish), we played here often, as this is a great course to learn on for several reasons. 1) It is only 9 holes, so you don't have to commit to a long 5-hour round on a big course. And when one is a beginner, 18 holes can be grueling. 2) The course is wide open, lots of room to err, without much penalty areas. Now there are areas you have to watch out for, but still much more generous than most other courses. 3) Lots of other not-so-good golfers here. So even if you suck, you won't really be holding up snooty better golfers, who will often press your pace. So be prepared for a slower round here, can't be in hurry here. 4) Cheaper green fees. Currently in 2026 it was $20 to walk on a weekday morning. Not sure what it is on weekends. It doesn't get any cheaper to play, especially out here in the Bay Area. Now for better players, this is still not a bad place to practice and hone your short game. I took my regular Monday crew here, as 1 of them had never been, and the other golf mate hadn't been in a long time, just like me. And we had a great time. For a 9 holer, there are 3 short par 4s. The rest are par 3s and they are really not that easy. Some of them are longer like 170+ yards, and almost all the greens are bowled/raised so it looks like a turtles hump. So a little tougher on getting your ball to stick to your target. You'll be doing a lot of chipping and pitching, which is all great practice for your short game. This course is in the middle of horse racetrack, at the Alameda Co. Fairgrounds. Great way to make use of otherwise dead space. Now when the fair is going on during the summer, I'm sure this course will close down. But the rest of the year, it is open. There is also a driving range/practice facility. But haven't used those yet. Locals seem to use it. And since it is inside the racetrack, in order to get inside, you'll have to drive under a one way tunnel. Which used to be scary back in the day, as you had to honk to warn the other direction that you were going through. Now there is a traffic light that directs traffic, which eliminates guessing and having to back up inside a tunnel. A nice course that has stood the test of time and is still serving a very specific purpose...to teach and prep newer golfers by providing a relaxed and beginner friendly environment. To that I gotta give props.

Apparently every hole at this course has a birdie waiting to happen…read more Just put down the ball. Pick a club. Hit the shot precisely. Put club back in your bag. Have your playing partners get excited thinking you aced it. Pose for photo. Post on Yelp and fb. Send pick to your family
