The decor is great. Coffee is good. The menu looks good, if not a bit overpriced. The service has been awful every time I've gone here. The Last time (upper case L) I went, we weren't even acknowledged for 25 minutes. I want to love it. OpenCity is great, the Diner is great. It's so close to my house and it's twenty-four hours but it's been a consistent letdown. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS INCONSISTENT. EVERYTHING. I've frequented the Couple at least 20 times in the past year and all in all I have to get this place a horrible and disappointing rating. The pros of the Coupe is its location, the ambience and the 24 hours service. As a college students, being able to student here is perfect and the only location that is somewhat close to me. The cons include everything else. Service is beyond inconsistent and often times very rude. There are about two nice servers here who I absolutely love, everyone else seems entitled and rude. Overpriced food that ranges in portions. I can't tell you how many times I've ordered a the 2 eggs plate and received a a large portion to incredibly small portions. Same goes with the drinks, I seem to get a different drink each time. I'm not sure who is in management, but they need to get it together. Train folks to be more attentive. Fix the food and regulate portions. Be nice. Thats all I'm looking for. Poor service, overpriced food and INCREDIBLY inconsistent. read more

I don't understand the poor reviews here. My husband and I frequent The Coupe at least once a week, and I work from there one or two days a week in addition. The food is good, and we've never been disappointed with the service. That said, if you are going to a diner on a Saturday or Sunday -- get used to it. It's busy. As is every other place in DC. Not many are as chill as The Coupe about people parking on their laptops for extended periods. Been to Coupe twice now, once for late night drinks, and once for brunch. The drinks were fine even if there is no tap and the beer selection was weak. The servers were friendly and attentive, and the place was a relatively quiet spot for a drink. We had just come from Meridian Pint across the street which is a great bar but gets ridiculously crowded so not always conducive to a quiet conversation. About a month later I came back for a sunday afternoon brunch. The environment is clean and inviting, with large open windows on the nice weather days and outdoor seating. The food was very tasty and had a few unique ideas even if it wasn't particularly inspired. The real problem was the service. I don't know if they were understaffed that day or if this is a normal issue, but it was difficult to get the attention of a server, and once we did order, the food took about 40 minutes to come out. It was plenty hot, so it's not as though it had been sitting around, but it's hard to understand how the kitchen couldn't get around to making a burger and a salad for half an hour. Finally, the server forgot one of our appetizers. He made good by getting it brought out in only about 5 more minutes and took it off our bill, but overall the experience was pretty flimsy. The Coupe Burger was tasty, largely thanks to the amount of fatty greasy ingredients, The Kale Caesar salad was good as well, though again, nothing you couldn't make easily at home with decent store bought incredients. The Coupe Fries were the most inspired part of the whole thing, basically poutine with boneless spare ribs and jalapeños thrown in - delicious and waist expanding. Verdict: if you've got nothing to do but sit around on a nice day, and aren't particularly hungry, then you can have a fine meal here. I would try to ignore the 'specialty' reviews-- unless you have a specialty diet, that is. For the rest of us omnivore folks, the restaurant is to be appreciated in Columbia Heights. PROs: +Friendly and concerned wait staff who make it clear to send food back if you don't like it. As a new restaurant, I appreciate this offer. +Flexible with customizing what you would like (kahlua in my milkshake? sure!) +Ambience is pretty inviting with the exposed brick, subway tiles, and low lighting. +Comfort food galore! adult grilled cheese with tomato jam, breakfast all day, Crystal hot sauce onion strings. I suppose that the host wasn't the friendliest- but that was made up for by the waiter and busboys. The vege burger needs some more taste to it- pickles or black beans? I am not sure. The 'green gumbo' was very good- however it is nothing like gumbo at all. Basically a savory kale and spinach soup with rice; delicious, but again- don't expect gumbo, and you will probably need to add hot sauce. These guys rock! I know The Coupe started off a little rusty but I think its because there was a vision there that wasn't fully realized until after they opened. They have really turned things around! I'm particularly fond of the granola and I love the waffles but just wish they added some more fruit on top of them. The cucumber salad I had last night was delicious. The Mushroom Reuben, so yummy. A good manager and business listens to its customers and you guys have done a wonderful job in making it better and better. The service is now great and I know that no matter what I order, it will be satisfying. We only come here for the waffles. They have this nice tangy flavor to them. I luv them! I like their hash browns as well. They do a good job with making them crunchy on the outside. We have tried some of their other food and it's just been a disappointment. The kale salad was lacking flavor and could have been massaged a bit more, the fried chicken lacks flavor. We try not using salt when cooking and definitely never use it when we are out, but we had to grab the salt shaker and add salt to the fried chicken. While the food lacks a lot of flavor it's still a cool place. I like that it's a diner, coffeehouse & bar all in one. read more

After our stellar experience at The Coupe recently, I came on to Yelp assuming there would be similar experiences and was surprised to see otherwise. There were four of us who went there on a Friday evening and stayed for several hours and all of us could attest to a fantastic all around experience. The ambiance was something to note because they really have provided the best of all atmospheres. You can choose restaurant style, lounge style or bar style and the space is larger and is spread out to allow for all 3 comfortably. We chose bar style since we were there at 630 and assumed we would make our way to the other sections throughout the night. We ended up staying where we were as the drinks were flowing and we had an awesome server. The food was delicious-lots of vegetarian and vegan options, which I appreciated. Collectively, we had the gnoochi, wings, dates, appetizers and the veggie burger, lamb burger, and rib entrees. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and this is no easy group to please. They had several mouth watering dessert options as well. We had the chocolate ganche peanut tarte that came with ice cream or frozen yogurt on the side. DElicious! The drink menu was extensive and we had the opportunity to try several terrific imported beers. Try the ones similar to the Allagash white. Service was the best. Our server was friendly, helpful, and really pleasant. She knew the menu very well, had tried nearly everything, and was able to provide some great recommendations. It got busy for a couple of hours while we were there so I would recommend going on the earlier end for dinner like 6 or 7 pm and really being able to enjoy the food and atmosphere with friends and family. This is as close as I can find to a casual diner that serves breakfast every single day. It feels like a neighborhood spot, with lots of families with kids. Whether they're busy or quiet, it always seems to be a challenge to get efficient service. But that's my main complaint. Oh, and I wish they would refill my coffee (a refill would be $1.50 and no one even offered). Maybe they're just worried people would linger too long if they had a refill. Went for the first time today with my fiancé and we loved it! Ida was our server and she was super attentive and really sweet. We tried all of her recommendations (the coupe fries, chorizo bowl, and the salmon bagel) and all were delicious! We also tried the hot autumn cider, Irish coffee, and the bourbon chai. Everything that we ordered came out hot and very fast. Portion sizes were very generous as were the pours in our drinks (shout-out to the bartender) and the presentation of everything was beautiful! I came here a while ago with a friend and I never went back. None of the staff seemed trained AT ALL! I understand this isn't a place where you expect 5 star service, but this place is just downright awful. I had ordered the smoked salmon bagel, but our clueless server brought out a bacon egg and cheese bagel, I don't eat pork. When I told her I had ordered the smoked salmon bagel, she said "Oh, we don't have that anymore" Um alright, that would've been great to know since I don't eat pork, and diners should be told when items aren't available!! So anyway, having explained to her that I don't consume pork, she asked if I wanted to take it to go or maybe my friend wanted it? What?? At this point we are over it and ask for our bill. Did they charge for the bagel that was not ordered? Yes. But considering it takes at least 15 mins to flag any staff down, we paid cash and left. Unless they hire competent staff, or even attempt to train their unbothered staff, I don't see this place around much longer. My sister (who lives in DC) recently had a meal at Coupe and loved it, so she recommended we all get brunch there when I was visiting this past weekend. I am sooo glad the decision to go was unanimous! Here is a list of reasons why Coupe is great: - Hostess system - if there's a wait for a table when you check in with the hostess, they take your name and number and then you get a text giving you an approximate wait time. This is great so you can leave the restaurant without having to sit around waiting for a table, if you so choose to. Once your table is ready, you receive another text alerting you of this. It is way better than the hostess shouting your name trying to get your attention in a crowded restaurant. I think the texting is an efficient and effective system. - Natural light - Coupe is enveloped with windows so the volume of natural light you get inside is pretty impressive. I loved that even on a cloudy day; it still felt so bright inside. - Décor - There's a nice mix of furniture with some classic pieces and some modern. Everything looks cohesive even though each individual piece stands out. I love the uniqueness and flair of the style, it just works. - Service - friendly service and fast service. Our waitress was pretty busy with her section but despite having a lot of customers to work with, she never looked flustered and handled everyone's request with ease and grace. She was friendly and fast. - Family friendly atmosphere - So we went to Coupe with my nephew, who is six months old. There were quite a few other babies in the place too. Somehow they've mastered the sound in the place because with the overhead music and just general brunch noise, you could barely hear any of the babies. My nephew started crying half-way through our meal and you could hardly make out any sound from him, it was amazing! So Coupe is great for people with kids and it's equally a spot for everyone dining without tots. - Food - Save the best for last =) I've got to say, my sister has good taste. Between four adults, we had plenty of dishes off the menu. My chaipuccino, per my sis's rec, was absolutely delicious. It was basically a chai latte with a shot of espresso and somehow the combination of the two went together perfectly. Food-wise the hashbrown bowl I got was amazing. It's this hearty (by that I mean super fattening!) mix of sautéed onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, cheddar, a thick hashbrown and an over easy egg jumbled together. The dish does come with bacon too but b/c I'm vegetarian I got it w/o the meat. It was incredibly filling and tasty, but word of caution, if you're going to get this off the menu, make sure to go to Coupe with elastic pants on otherwise be prepared to suffer! I also had a bite of my friend's fries and they were soft, thick and juicy. In other words they were heavenly. My brother-in-law's side biscuit order was massive and looked mouthwatering. If I wasn't so stuffed I would've asked to try a bite but by then my waist was exploding and I could barely breathe! If you're lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, I'm jealous. If you're visiting DC and are a brunchaholic, I'd say take a little detour and enjoy this neighborhood gem. read more

Aghhh I've come here at least 4 or 5 times, and while I really want to like this local neighborhood 24-hour joint, I just can't depend upon it for consistently good food and service. The first time, the establishment had been open for a couple weeks, and it took an hour for my group of 6 to be served brunch (and they ran out of hot sauce???). Another time, my friend and I apparently sat at the edge of two servers' designated spaces, and no one noticed us for a good while because each server thought the other was assigned to us. The situation dawned on us at roughly the same time as it did the servers. Another time, my egg over easy came out well done while part of my friend's order never came and his portion size was ridiculously small. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and hash brow bowl a couple times each, and I'm pretty sure each time I ordered breakfast, something changed. The hash browns were initially a scoop of mushy shredded potatoes. Last I checked, they're a square 3-D block of fried crisp taters (which I actually prefer). The hash brown bowl might have actually gotten a little bigger portion-wise. I think the biggest problem with this place is its service. The service (servers + kitchen) is slow, inconsistent, and at times inattentive. I don't get it. This place has all the charm of Tryst, it's conveniently open all day and all night, and the food can be quite good. The service and inconsistency kill any progress one might expect. 3 stars for food and drink but I bumped it up to 4 since this place is open 24 hours. Ok So me and the bf came here for a late lunch and sat at the bar. Danielle the front house manager greeted us immediately and got us started since out bartender Jamal was busy prepping. The bf was into the kung-fu playing on the big screen while I took a gander at the menu. He ordered a beer and I got the Baller cocktail. The cocktail was delish, highly recommended. I got the chicken club with their house made onion rings also highly recommended (thinly sliced red onions) and he got the Coupe fries.I saw they had a pecan pie dessert which I aim to try anywhere which didn't disappoint. The best thing about this place is the staff! Jamal is a kung-fu connoisseur and wrapped us up in movie history. The food was good and you could tell everything was made fresh (I would have liked a little more seasoning on the fries and my sandwich). All in all me and the guy will be back to hang out at the bar when we don't want to end the night so soon or sit in one of the comfy chairs by the window on a sunny lazy afternoon. read more

I had to leave today without being given the chance to place my food order. I was seated quickly, but sat for fifteen minutes before I was approached for a drink order. My water and coffee came quickly but I sat for another fifteen to twenty minutes without being waited on. I basically sat their without service for thirty minutes. The restaurant was busy, but this is the typical experience for me whenever I visit; whether the place is busy or slow. I dig the food and Counter Culture coffee, but I will not be visiting this restaurant anytime soon. read more

The latest mediocre diner/lounge of the owners of Tryst, Open City, etc. The ambiance is nice and I like the concept of multiple dining experiences (choose from the bar, lounge, or diner area), but the food is subpar. I checked it out for the first time with my friend last night. We ordered the gnocchi appetizer and both ordered the scallops with pumpkin risotto. The gnocchi came with sauteed brussel sprouts and shaved parmesan. The gnocchi was incredibly doughy and tasted undercooked. We couldn't even taste the potato. I believe they were flash sauteed--not boiled. Needless to say the outside was a little too brown while the inside was too soft. The scallops and risotto proved equally disappointing. The scallops lacked flavor and tenderness. The risotto was hands down the most disappointing aspect of the meal. We were both sold on the idea of pureed pumpkin mixed in with a creamy risotto--at least that was my vision of "pumpkin risotto". Instead, we got a less than thick risotto with undercooked diced pumpkin mixed in. The pumpkin could have easily been mistaken for carrot it was so undercooked. Honestly we went here as a last resort on a Friday night in the now booming 11th street scene. After trying RedRocks, Room 11, Maple, and El Chucho, it was the only spot left with any seating at 9:30 pm.This is telling enough--and it's not just because of the restaurant's ample seating. This is an awesome hip coffee spot in Columbia Heights. They serve breakfast all day. I came in late on a Sunday night after dinner with some friends and enjoyed a strawberry milkshake. The mulled cider smelled phenomenal, and it is served with animal crackers. The food looks amazing, and I would definitely like to return when I'm hungry. Service was friendly and competent. Came here around 6 pm after hitting the long wait for Bad Saint down the street, attracted by the nice hotel-like front entrance and seating outside. Having read the reviews beforehand, I was prepared to encounter some service issues. We got our drinks fairly quickly, and ordered from the menu, but it took way too long for the food items to emerge from the kitchen -- must have been 20 to 24 even 30 minutes as I recall. The lamb was pretty good, and my partner had the salmon which was OK. This place could be REALLY good if they improve the service and responsiveness, and add some things to the menu. They should take advantage of their large space -- which actually does look on the inside like a large hotel entrance area though it is not -- step up their food and service game to turn The Coupe into the kind of place we would think of traveling to again. A new, modern diner, open 24/7, serving the full gamet of breakfast foods, drinks, and entrees? Sign me up! That's what we said as we walked by the other night looking for a dinner spot. When we arrived, the place was not too packed -- the more traditional diner-style seating is located on one side of the restaurant while the bar and more dinner-style seating are on the other side; we opted for the latter. Our service was great -- LJ was friendly and helpful. I got a happy hour house red and the salmon sandwich. Everything was great! My boyfriend got the coup burger with a side salad and enjoyed his, too. The unisex bathroom area tripped me up a little bit... but otherwise, we enjoyed our experience at the Coup! Checked this place out shortly after it opened and the results were lackluster. At that point, the restaurant focused too much on the concept and sacrificed the most important thing, the food! Thankfully, several months later, my second experience vastly improved. I got the buttermilk fried chicken which came out boneless and crunchy and just pure deliciousness. The side portions were also generous and complimented the meal greatly (potato salad and roasted root vegetable). Definitely check it out if you're in the area. The space itself is great, wide, long and open with several seating areas. I was in D.C earlier this week and really enjoyed this place. So much so that I came there two days in a row and stayed for about 6 hours each time (the place where I was staying didn't have wifi so I used The Coupe as my "office"). The place is gorgeous, the staff is friendly, attentive and accommodating (I occupied the bar the first day and a booth the second and no one had an issue). I'm a big fan of breakfast so while there, I tried a few items from the menu. The Croque Madame is amazing - the griddled banana bread and hashbrown bowl were also quite tasty. My good friend Eric N. brought me out here when I was visiting DC. It's probably one of the best places I've had a late night breakfast at. One of my highlights involved the hash browns... I'm used to this mess of hash browns everywhere I've been, but here, they we're neat, kind of like a brownie. I know it's not really a "WOW!" thing to read about on Yelp! but they really were the best ones I've ever had! They have multiple teas to pick from as well, something that was quite pleasant. I have tried so many times to make this place work because of the location. I know they have re-staffed, re-done the menu, re-invented whatever concept, and all the same outcome. First of all - no longer 24/7....which was basically the appeal of the place. So that's a big downgrade. Latest and hopefully last time I am ever there: Came in for late breakfast/early brunch and wanted to sit outside. There was ONE table seated outside, rest is empty. There were two hostesses and the inside was not busy. Any other place would just sit us right? Hah! They wanted my name and number and said it would take 5-10 minutes. I got a text with the waiting time and everything. We actually waited the 5 minutes (should have gone to Room 11!) and were sat. I still don't understand why they couldn't just sit us. The waitress came over and took our drink order. Then another person that appeared to be waitstaff came over and started the same "hey my name is so and so and I will be taking care..." and which point I told him that somebody has already taken our drink order, upon hearing that the dude (i wish i remembered his name!) got upset and walker away. Not sure if he was a host or a manager or whatever but the next table sat outside he made sure that I heard that he "is NOT the waiter" and is just checking in on the table and answering questions. I know this because he shouted it and stared at me while talking to the new table :) Anyway, not sure what that was all about. I went to The Coupe the week after it opened, so I have hope that there will be improvements and I will be able to write a better review in the future! In short, service was awful, and the food was mediocre at best. However, I have hope that things will pick up, people will become more experienced, and this will be a great spot, as are the other locations. Upon arriving, no one seemed really helpful. KEep in mind that when you walk in, there is a desk-type area and also what looks like a small hostess stand on your left. There were two women at the desk thing, and neither of them greeted us or made eye contact. We sort of had to get their attention to see if we should seat ourselves, etc. They told us to seat ourselves, so we were sort of checking the place out. In the dining area, a server told us to sit anywhere and that she would be right with us. We decided not to sit in that area, and opted for a booth at a window in the bar area. Now, two different people had spoken with us, saw us sit where we did. We went on to wait about 20 minutes before a server came up to us. It took another patron to sit down before he came, however we were within his view the entire time, and he helped other people in our section. When he finally asked us if we needed anything and we informed him we just got there, we kind of joked about it and told him it wasn't a big worry--we weren't in a rush. He then asked if we wanted something to drink. We asked for coffee and water, and menus, and he left. He came back some time later and took our food orders, and then again asked us if we wanted coffee or anything. We said yes, and then he caught himself, and realized he had asked us twice. The coffees came, the water never did, unfortunately. Also, when we sat at the table, it had not been cleared. There was a set of silverware and a napkin that looked unused, but they are opened on the table, so you can't really tell. The server left us that one, and after our food was served, he never returned, so we didn't have a chance to ask for new utensils. Finally, the food was really boring. I got an egg bake.. I Think it was Tunisian, and my boyfriend got the Coupe Special. The Coupe Special has a lot of modifications to it (how to do the eggs, what type of meat, grits or hashbrowns, etc) and the waiter didn't ask for any of these things, my boyfriend had to ask himself. The menu itself has a little promise, but seems a little disjointed. I'm really, really curious to hear about the pad thai omelet. What a strange thing! All in all, I think a lot of these qualities were because the place had literally opened days before, and I'm sure they are working out the kinks and everything. I go here quite often with my boyfriend for brunch, and we're always really pleased with our experiences. I especially love some of the bartenders--they are always really nice and attentive, and give great recommendations. The wait can be really annoying, as it's always full, but usually we can find room at the bar. As for the food, it's really solid. There are a couple of things I was underwhelmed by (the pancakes as well as the sauteed spinach, for example) but otherwise I have had really delicious food there. I especially loved the jerk salmon BLT. The apple cider fritters are crazy addictive. Price-wise, it's not terrible, especially because this is some seriously satisfying brunch food. Solid food, cheap. But walk here ... don't try to park nearby. Formerly a 24-hour diner, now opened more conventional hours (read: no after-bar closing snacks), this is another Constantine Stavropoulos establishment (Tryst, Open City, The Diner). With the same great, ultra-strong coffee, you can get breakfast for dinner here, and the food is very consistent. For breakfast or brunch I recommend the shortrib hash made with the meat from short ribs, some potatoes (but not too many) and topped with an egg. The French toast is solid, but comes with a very cold "spiced blueberry compote" which chills the toast instantly. If you're vegan, go for the tofu quiche. The tomato and goat cheese omelet is also excellent. The "hash browns" come as a side with many breakfast items, and are stellar: a crisp patty is double-fried leaving a crunchy shell. For dinner, the lamb burger is excellent, and actually came to me medium rare, as ordered. Fries are decent. This place doesn't have the fastest service, but on Sundays you can often walk right in and sit one or two people at the breakfast counter to the back right - no need to check in with the hostess. If you have a larger group, expect to get a pager and wait a bit. This place is good for what it is: inexpensive, slightly classier diner food. If you don't set your expectations unrealistically high for a diner, you won't be disappointed. read more

We went here for Sunday brunch and of course it being the official District Meal, it was packed. But everyone seemed frazzled. The host and hostess and the wait staff all seemed unprepared, which I thought was odd. Even our check, which was split, didn't come in a sleeve or with a pen. Not that I care about this, but it was indicative of the experience. Ordered the Deviled Eggs and Waffle Bites. The eggs were sweet which I wasn't expecting. And the waffle bites had so much promise, but they weren't hot and the jalapeno butter was cold as a rock, so they disappointed as well. In addition, the eggs came out late. Got the ham and cheddar omelet. It was good. The hasbrowns were terrific, as were the Bloody Mary's though a little small. They had a decent beer selection, but they have the same pricing system as Brixton which is $5 for half a pint and $10 or so for an Imperial Pint, which is slightly larger than a pint. It's overcharging, no matter what measuring system you use. They have been open for a month, so there probably is growing pains. But this isn't their first restaurant. They own the Diner and Tryst. You would have thought that they would assign some of their better staff from those places temporarily to Coupe to help train and get people up to speed. Instead it looks like everyone there got hired 4 weeks ago and don't have experience. Oh, and the tin ceiling is pretty. But as others have mentioned, its loud. But the place was packed, so maybe people will come no matter the quality. That would be sad. They need to up their game, because the reputation of the restaurant group deserves it . read more

People in DC are hard with their reviews. Coming back into town after a 4.5 hour bus ride, I ended up at the Coupe a bit after midnight. Things have changed in DC in the past 7 years. Back then a place like the Coupe didn't exist in the neighborhood. I'm happy that it does now. The Coupe owns a cute, large, space which serves food and drink late into the night. The thing about the atmospherics that sticks with you is 'white' as there is a lot of white tiling, white walls, which makes the place seem very clean. Upon entering, we were told the dining room was closed for the evening but we could sit where ever we liked in the bar area. We chose a long counter space parallel to the bar. The bar area is spacious with a TV at one end and booths lining the wall. It could be its own restaurant. We were waited on attentively by the wait staff - who came by took our drink/food orders. The waitress helpfully suggested the coupe fries which is seriously drunk food. House cut fries with bits of short rib, cheese, and gravy on top - sounds like a poutine except the gravy wasn't so liquidy. The fried chicken sandwich was quite satisfying the chicken was large and crispy; the cabbage slaw was sweet, vinegary and helped cut the fried-ness of the chicken. The place got a bit crazy by the time we were done with our meal as the restaurant seemed entirely understaffed - with only two people working the entire restaurant/bar. However, I can forgive that as the wait staff were working hard zipping around. The Coupe has friendly staff, a large pleasant space, is open late, and decent food. I can say I'm a fan. read more

Came here for a late lunch as a group of four and were seated within a few minutes. The vibe is really nice--casual, family-friendly. There's a menu that's big but not too big, and a little something for everyone. I ordered a chopped salad, eager for that bowl of bright colors to make its way to me. I was unfortunately disappointed with the meal set down in front of me, but didn't think on it as I got caught up in conversation. Only on the last bite I thought, "Hmm, this was missing hard-boiled egg. I remember seeing that on the menu." I then compared what I got to the menu and was shocked to see that I was given a totally different salad. And nothing on the menu either. What I ordered had: (1) lettuces, (2) chicken, (3) cherry tomatoes, (4) cucumber, (5) hard boiled egg, (6) shaved manchego, (7) sourdough croutons, (8) olive oil and vinegar on the side. What I got had: (1) lettuces and (2) chicken. Nothing from what I've listed above as (3) through (8). The only other thing: a little cup of lemon juice and a little cup of oil. This is just so odd to me. What I got doesn't match anything on their menu. And it's not like the place was out of one item. We're talking 8 items wrong here. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and, of course, I'd eaten the entire thing already. The more I think about it, though, the weirder I think it is. Plus I paid for the salad I ordered, which has many more ingredients than the one I ate. This feels like a weird rant. I guess I just wasn't impressed and wouldn't be eager to go back. My husband felt the same; he ordered the Hash Brown Bowl and it looked to be about half the size we expected (he even finished eating twice as soon as the rest of us). read more

A friend of mine told me about the recent opening of this place a few months ago. I've been sort of out of the foodie blogisphere, so I was excited to come try the newest offering from the same people who bring you The Diner, Tryst and Open City. My first impression when walking in, was, "It's super cute!' look at the real flowers on the tables! The urban chic sofas and armchairs!" The space itself is surprisingly large, with seating stashed away in corners and a plethora or outlets- a perfect place to set up shop for a day of teleworking. Another plus- they serve alcohol and have a decent beer list and an eclectic wine list. The food is your standard diner-type food. I was not expecting michelin star food or service, but then again it's a diner, not fine dining. The tofu quiche is pretty darn good, and i am not even a vegan! I'd come here on my own with my laptop or with friends to catch up. read more

I have never revised a review before, but The Coupe has just redone their menu, and to perfection. This is the perfect place to come if you need a spot to telework or a quiet cafe. Spacious, with seating to match your every mood- diner style bar, booths, comfy couches, and a sports-bar like feel in the back. The staff is also increasingly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about their food and drink menu offerings. (Thank you Jason!) I recommend the Salmon BLT sandwich and the sauteed spinach as a side. It's family friendly, and the new brunch menu including waffles looks great- can't wait to try it. read more

For the love of God someone please hire a hostess who knows how to seat people. Came around 1 on Sunday and was told there would be a 30+ minute wait for a table even though half the tables on the bar side of the place were empty and gathering cobwebs. Got relegated to the couch instead. Coffee was good, but they're losing business being so unorganized. Soft opening should come with a free dessert or something. This was just annoying to deal with. We visited DC for four days and ate here five times. That's how much we liked it. The food is well priced, filling and creative. The servers are attentive but not pushy. And a special shout out to our favorite server, Ashley, who was wearing an amazing gold sweater, took incredible care of us, and remembered us when we passed her on the street a while later.
