    Diavola Pizza

The Copper offers authentic Italian recipes that are over 250 years old. The Diavola pizza was cooked to perfection! I love wood fire cooked pizza so much the sauce, cheese and meat were delicious. And the size of the pizza definitely feeds at least 2-3 people. The service was great very personable and friendly. The restaurant had an intimate setting which i enjoyed for dinner time.

Delicious! We almost walked by this spot! We also tried the mushroom bolognese pasta!!! That was soooo good! You can tell the food is made from scratch!

Absolutely loved this place! Beautiful view, great atmosphere, and delicious pizza Definitely coming back!

I'm not being overdramatic... their fettuccini Alfredo might have been theeee best I've ever had. We started off with their caesar salad, then truffle pizza and then the pasta. EVERYTHING was flavorful and delicious. Perfection!!!

After decades, this establishment returns to its original name. I used to have breakfast upstairs at the Copper Coffee Pot cafeteria (pushing my tray along the stainless steel line, choosing dishes) almost every morning, back in the 70s. In the 60s, when I first asked my Dad to serve me a cup of coffee, he said "Son, let me take you to the Copper Coffee Pot so you'll have a standard of what a good cup of coffee tastes like." They even had a big old antique copper coffee maker on display. Well, my beloved Copper closed long ago, and became a series of restaurants (Aldo's, and most recently da'Michele). Now it's re-opened as The Copper once again. I've always loved the architecture. It was built in 1925, designed by the master Joseph Plunkett, who also designed the Arlington. It's a cozy two-story Spanish revival, replete with a patio and fountain, right on State Street (the only other building like this is, of course, the Arlington). Alas, the brilliant interior flow has been chopped-up, and you can no longer go upstairs (I used to fantasize about having my office up there, and I used to watch the Fiesta Parade from the balcony). And alas, they no longer serve breakfast and one of the best cups of coffee ever. But: it's still a charming spot to dine, and it does have a wood-fired oven. And it's a bit of genuine old-time Santa Barbara, still alive after almost 100 years. I just talked to the new owner today (December 2025): He grew up in the restaurant business, took da Michele over and operated it for a few months, and is planning on adding breakfast, and (yay) maybe opening the upstairs again.

Italian was on the menu tonight and Yelp brought us here…read more Via Maestro 42 has a small interior mostly made up of two top tables, and then an outside covered area within the parking lot. On this fine March evening, we opted to sit outdoors. I was concerned with how much lighting there would be once the sun set but they didn't really have any four tops available inside for us. (In the end, the interior lights from the neighboring business helped illuminate our table that was directly in front of the restaurant, and not necessarily under the outside covered area.) After we put in our order and received the complimentary bread (with the provided olive oil), we were questioning whether we had ordered too much food. We attempted to ask the waiter if it was too much and he didn't really answer our question. And since there was only one table next to us and he was dining solo, it was hard to gauge the portion sizes. We ordered: * Antipasto Sampler Platter $19.95 - A generous selection from their deli case, perfect for sharing. The butter bean with tuna salad was a first for me and has me thinking of how to incorporate more butter beans in my diet. Other items included grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, mixed olives, farro salad, green beans, salami, tomato and mozzarella. * Bucatini all'Amatriciana $22.95 - We opted for this as it was a described as a traditional dish from he Lazio region. It was enjoyed by all. * Linguine con Vongole $26.95 - Next to arrive was the linguine, which was the absolute favorite for us all. It was light, filled with clams, and just had a great taste overall. * Farfalle al Pesto $19.95 - The Little Gal wanted pesto, but this version was so heavy. It was exhausting to eat and probably our least favorite. * Polenta Del Montanaro $21.95 - The mushrooms and polenta sounded amazing, but again this was very heavy for us. There were also a few hard bits of polenta mixed in. It was just overwhelming in not the best way. Overall, the portions are HUGE and just perfect for sharing. We would have dreaded being stuck with one dish on our own as it's just too much. We were also concerned about the $3.95 split charge fee that may apply, hence why we went with four entrees. You can easily get your fill with a few items here without breaking the bank. I can definitely see why they have such great ratings. The restroom is located in the back, so you do need to walk outside to access the restroom. I guess this avoids having you walk through the kitchen to get there. Service was fine. We did have one primary waiter but the other staff stepped in when necessary. It was pretty busy for a weekday evening, at least for all the outside tables. Since it's a bit away from the touristy area, you do get a sense there are more locals enjoying this spot.

Really a 400% mark up is necessary? We ordered two pastas, Fusilli tartuifato and papardelle Boscola. Papardelle were good, but the fusilli sauce was watery, like soup, so the minimal flavor did not really stick to the noodle. Also very little truffle flavor in the sauce, was embarrassingly bad. We sent it back suggesting any other pasta dish would be a better choice but they insisted on replacing it with another identical order which was just as bad. We gave up and overpaid for unsatisfactory pasta meal. Service was ok, had to ask for water fill up, but we did not fault the waiter for bad food, not his fault. Profiteroles dessert did not have enough chocolate sauce and too liquidity cream filling . Also disappointing. Do not recommend. Quality did not justify the price tag, Sorry.

It is a small space so we were seated very close to two other tables (the kind of close where it's hard to focus on your own convo). We ordered the Caesar Salad to start. I feel like I've had this exact salad (as in gem lettuce, breadcrumbs, lemony dressing) other places executed a little better. The breadcrumbs were almost too hard creating a grainy/sandy texture rather than a nice crunch. Good flavor though. We also got the Meatballs "Alla Vodka." This was the highlight of the meal for me. My husband thought they could've used more of a binder but personally I liked that they felt more meaty than bready. I recommend using the spoon to eat the meatballs so you get enough sauce with each bite. Don't want any of that delicious sauce to go to waste! We got the pepperoni pizza for our entree. This pizza was just okay to me based on my personal preferences so take this with a grain of salt! I'm not the biggest sourdough person and since the pizza is fermented it has a similar flavor. I also wish that the pizza was a little less charred. I think it was more burnt on top than charred but maybe that's what they're going for and I'm just not the audience. We enjoyed the pepperoni pizza with the house ranch. I really enjoyed this bc I prefer a dill-heavy ranch and this definitely delivered that! Overall, solid meal and would come back. Our server was a little awkward but didn't really affect our experience all that much.
