We had friends visiting from out of town and gave them options for lunch and they picked Cookshack! Another 5-star Cookshack experience! It's always amazing to me that these restaurants are in strip plazas but on the inside, they never seem like it. The look is so cool. Rustic but modern. White subways tile, raw wood, black accents, Edison lights. Love it, All the staff were top notch! Order at the counter, take a seat and they'll bring your food to you! For food, our group went with: the chicken sandwich, chicken and waffles, 3 piece tenders and a salad. Everyone LOVED their meals. This was my third visit to a Cookshack and I've ONLY gotten chicken sandwich and it was once again, it was perfection. My husband has only gotten the chicken and waffles and he said it was the only thing he plans on getting here. Haha. We know what we love. Download the Cookshack app and gets points for FREE food!

Pretty solid chicken tenders! The spice levels dont play! I always get a medium and it's the perfect amount of spice before it gets unbearable! (But once in a blue moon I'll get a craving for that Texas hot spice level) The staff are always very nice and attentive, especially this last visit we made! Young gentleman took our finished plates and made sure to ask if we needed anything. The sides are okay, I feel like they balance out the chicken very well!

I got food Togo! Got the loaded fries with coleslaw and brisket, a kids nuggets with shack sauce and kale salad and we got a 3 piece tender with sweet heat sauce and gravy and sweet potato fries! We wanted to try a variety! Everyone was fresh and delicious!

I've been wanting to try this place since it opened and was finally able to while running errands the other day. I like it! The service was fast and friendly! I ordered tenders with mild heat and a side of macaroni. They arrived on a slice of bread with some sauce on it. I could have done without the sauce as it was very spicy! I also ordered a side of remoulade which had a kick but a really good flavor! It's like campfire sauce with a combination of ketchup and mayo together with seasoning. Super yummy! They have a few beers on tap but I don't think they have a full bar. The Mac and cheese was country style and very tasty! The tenders were cooked just right and tasted fresh! Next time though, I'll probably get "no heat" as the mild with the sauce was on the spicier side for me. We'll definitely be back to eat again soon!

Poor quality pic but 5 piece tender with fries. Toast is under the tenders.

Hot chicken is popping up everywhere! Walking in we were greeted by a worker behind the register. She was kind, polite, and helpful. As we asked questions about the menu, she was able to answer them all and give her input on items. I ordered 5 pieces of tender hot and 2 no spice with fries. Also came with a piece of toast and a dipping sauce, I choose their shack Sauce. The sauce was nothing that stood out so it was just there. The tenders were a good size and the heat level was a good spice. I was able to taste a piece of waffle from my brother in law and it was a good combo. The waffle was fluffy and not dense at all. I almost for to talk about the fries and that's probably because they tasted like regular ole fries nothing special versus other places. Over all good place with good workers.

OMG! Soooo happy we decided to try this joint! Greeted warmly upon walking in. Place is open, clean and even has padded chairs! I had to order the chicken and waffle... medium spice.. with the dragon fries. It was absolutely delicious. I ordered 2 different sauces, and didn't even need it. Barely used any. Could have used another syrup, but made it work. That cinnamon butter... My wife ordered the 3 piece, mild, and fries with slaw... she ended up eatting most of my wonderful waffle. Portions are generous.. we're taking a box home with us. Definitely we'll be back!

Mild Chicken Sandwich w/Side Mac & Cheese

Good, casual chicken sandwich/tenders place. Have mostly stuck with their chicken sandwiches - mostly because the chicken is crispy, well-cooked and heat preference can be adjusted. Buns, pickles and slaw that comes on it are also good. They're Mac n cheese as a side is very creamy and delicious! Value for the meal is good, though I think I will try their lunch special out - feels like at a place like Dave's Hot Chicken or Raising Canes, I get a bigger quantity of the side. And those include their sauce. In comparison, at Cookshack you have to order it as an additional add-on. That being said: it's a good sauce that is very good with their chicken.

Very rustic, cozy, and nice ambiance. The service was quick and good. Very helpful explaining the menu options. The food was just ok and the fries were really salty. Ordered the hog heaven and it was just ok. Somewhat on the warm to cool side temperature wise. The chicken strip on the bun was ok. Nothing fancy or special about it. I don't think I would make a special trip to come back again unless maybe in the area. Ordered the butterscotch ice cream sandwich which was sweet. Maybe it was just an off day for me.

Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries

I believe the quality of their food has decreased. My original review was around the time they opened this location. The last couple of visits have become more and more disappointing. We have not been back in a few months after my last meal there. I have only ever ordered the chicken and waffles there. The last time we went the chicken was very rubbery and did not taste right. I have not returned since that day. While this could have been an isolated incident, it left me not wanting to return especially because we have plenty other food options in the area. The staff is very nice and helpful when ordering your food. The space is large with many tables nothing special to it.

Danny L.

Cookshack is a cool spot to get some good chicken. The service was great and overall a cool spot to grab a beer and chicken. Also had the chance to try the ribs and they were average, a little dry for my liking. But overall a good spot and try at least once. The sides we ordered were kale salad and macaroni and those were definitely delicious.

So I overslept on the original restaurant that I was planning to go to. I drove to the Cook shack which was 4 minutes from my hotel and open until 10:00 on weekdays. I ordered Chicken (mild) and Waffles with French fries and sweet heat dipping sauce. The chicken was well cooked and crispy. The French fries weren't anything special. The waffles were fluffy and tasty. The waffles have a butter that puts you in the mindset of Texas Roadhouse that make them very tasty. The location has many televisions set to sports giving you a sports bar feel. I ordered my food, went and sat down and it was brought out to the table within 10 minutes. Overall would recommend or come to eat again on lunch. Waffle 4/5 Chicken 5/5 Fries 3/5 Margarita 4/5

Couldn't pass up the chance to stop by here after an hour or so at Baybrook. And just between me and the two or three people who read my stuff, I had procrastinated a few times before. The flagship food of this eatery is chicken strips. I know what you're thinking. "Chicken strips? I can get those at my kid's ballgame!" Yes, but I doubt those chicken strips are big as your forearm like The Cookshack's. Having ordered five at medium heat, I was about full when I took on my second piece. The amount of spices blended in the poultry was enough for a kick, but not to where I chugged multiple drinks. Fries were aplenty and just as good. They also have ribs here thus making a second visit here likely.

Levette D.

Great find. Be prepared to enjoy your meal. I ordered the Sleezy Chicken - a bowl of layered Mac and cheese chicken tenders and coke slaw. It was oh so good. I tried the hot heat and it was hot but the Mac and cheese and the coke slaw cooled down my mouth. My dad ordered the 3 tenders with sweet potato fries and he said things are definitely bigger in Texas. The tenders combines were larger than a breast and the sweet potato fries were oh so yummy. We are so satisfied. Room for improvement- the lemonade was water minus the lemon and unfortunately my Mac and cheese was cold but I still enjoyed the dish. McKinley was amazing. She is a keeper and understands customer service.

I have gout, so I eat alot of chicken. I made it my mission back in July to search out the beast chicken sandwich...I have declared a champion today. The Chicken sandwich at the Cookshack is Spectacular!!!! Perfectly prepared chicken in multiple heat levels. I like spicy food and found the Texas Hot perfect. Cole slaw, pickles, perfect bun for a Chicken sandwich. Easily worth the cost. The sandwich is large. The place has cool laid back restaurant in the back of a bar vibe. The manager was very friendly and on his game checking on EVERYTHING. He told me the ribs were a favorite for many customers....I am stuffed. Another day. This is a great location in Webster. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pass on the fast food chicken sandwich war "also rans".....This is place. Your Welcome!!! read more

YESSSSSSSSS my husband and I are so pumped that they opened this near little Ol League City the chicken was FRESH and crispy. I got the medium chicken tacos which has a very mild kick to it. If you like spicy but want to not die , try this one. My husband got the Texas Heat which is one step below the AMF. It was definitely spicy, but he's a pepper eating type of guy, so he enjoyed it. The reason I'm only giving this place 3 stars... is because they tried to double charge me for what I ordered which on the board it says 2 chicken tacos and a side for 9.79... when they tried to charge me twice. I luckily caught it and didn't pay the $20.00. Beware of that. The food is delicious though. read more

Good quality chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches as advertised. Bigger than other places and fried to a nice crisp. The sandwiches are very good too. Choose your spice level sauces. Medium heat works for me. Regular house sauce is what I usually get. Sweet potato fries as a side is my favorite. Place is well run and clean. If you are hankering for a good chicken sandwich or tenders, this is the place to go. read more

Size matters! This place! I have to say my expectations were a little low, but I am happy I was wrong! We went based on the word of a great margarita and we were not disappointed! The strips are mammoth sized.. my husband is into hot and spicy and was happy with the Texas hot! I am a plain Jane kinda girl and loved their plain tender and honey mustard. Mac n cheese is worth the splurge, fries are seasoned perfectly... but, the best part for me was the ribs. Fall off the bone, but still the right texture. We also had the ice cream sandwich and I will be craving more that for a while! We will def be back and were happy to hear they are opening locations in some of our most traveled cities in Texas. Be ready College Station! Ps- I tried the kale salad and it was actually good and I don't eat salads. read more

***this was a pickup order*** the inside of the restaurant looked really nice when i went to get my food! i ordered the spiciest hot chicken sandwich they had with a side of mac n cheese and also a side of dragon fries. W O W. the dragon fries were a bit too salty but had the perfect hint of heat to them and i shamelessly finished them in about 3 minutes. SO GOOD. moving onto the sandwich... it looked beautiful. the slaw on the side was a nice touch and i added it into the sandwich. now, i am a huge fan of spicy food and will eat spices in everything i make. this sandwich was hot. and i mean HOT. and SO GOOD. my mouth is still on fire even after 20 minutes of finishing. i couldn't even finish it because i was going to drink all of the water in clear lake. but regardless, the sandwich was amazing and the heat was insanely good. the mac n cheese wasn't as creamy as i thought it would be (potentially because it was a pickup order), but still so good. i LOVE this place now. read more

Not great at all ... and overpriced. The (medium spice) chicken tender breading was soggy just 15 minutes after pickup and the flavor was poor. The thinner ends of the chicken were overcooked and chewy. The Mac and Cheese was super thick and cloying, however the flavor was slightly better than the wings. I do not suggest The Cookshack. read more

With so many restaurants on Webster my brother-in-law saw the Cookshack and we decided to try. Seriously their chicken tenders, made to order, were excellent and seasoned by your design. They take their seasoned scale seriously and offer enough advice so you can be satisfied and daring if you want. My medium seasoned tenders were at the midway point between what I expected for mild and hot. They were flavorful and skillfully battered and were larger than normal- and were delivered hot (temperature). Waffles were excellent and I had their exclusive batter beer which was so tasty. The blue cheese dipping sauce had plenty, of yes, blue cheese. And those dragon fries complimented the serious flavors with it own garlic heat taste. Mac and cheese was light and creamy. More than a few visits to the table from employees and managers made us feel our visit was appreciated. It was a great choice and we will be back. read more

Amazing food!! I had the chicken and waffles with dragon fries and my spouse had the chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese. Utter perfection! The chicken was crispy, juicy and full of flavor. The dragon fries were hot, crispy with the perfect heat level. The Mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy and slightly smoky with bacon. The batter beer is a lager from a Fort Worth brewery. It was smooth, very drinkable and had a slight sweetness to it. No bitter end like other lagers. We also heard that the margaritas are the bomb but didn't have the chance to drink those. Next time!! I'm finally dusting off my old 2017 review for Boondoggles to provide an update…read more I returned here last night for a pre-birthday outing. While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

On our way back to the hotel, we found Pappas Delta Blues Smokehouse on the map and decided to stop. The restaurant was very busy and we had to join a waitlist, but it was absolutely worth the wait! People in Houston kept telling us we couldn't leave Texas without trying Texas smoked BBQ, and this was the perfect place to experience it. I ordered the Prime Brisket Combo with smoked beans and coleslaw. Oh my goodness! I had never tasted brisket so tender and flavorful--it practically melted in my mouth like butter. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! The house-made BBQ sauces were delicious too--I tried every single one! The smoked beans, coleslaw, and bread were all wonderful. Hunter took excellent care of us and was very helpful explaining the dishes and drinks. Toward the end, Jonny also came by and kindly treated us to an apple dessert with vanilla ice cream that was absolutely delicious! The country décor, music, family atmosphere, and warm hospitality made the whole experience even more special. I returned to California already dreaming about coming back! For starters, their HRW dinner menu sits at the low end price wise with a $40 option. Sure you can upgrade to a better steak but you can land a filet mignon on the $40 menu. Appetizers offered include a salad, a queso with sausage and chips and a boudin link. We sampled all. And because I love pork belly added their sticky pork belly appetizer to the table. First off, they don't skimp on the HRW portions. The waitress was clear that the boudin only had one link but it's was more than enough with the seasoned crackers, pickled onions and stone mustard. The queso features beef sausage and homemade chips. And the pig cubes are magic. Sticky and perfectly cooked. Mains too are well executed and plentiful. The steak eaters smiled big and those of us who opted for the triple bbq option were floored by the big ribs and the two additional meats that filled the plate. And than add 2 sides (bring an empty belly and plan on leftovers. Dessert is stunning as well. The cheesecake was light and fresh and the pecan cobbler an artistic delight. Shout out to the management who stopped at the table to discuss allergy precautions staff would take to protect a member of our party and to our super waitress Malaysia who handled our party with humor and kindness. She had a great handle on the menu and continually brought us containers for leftovers. The restaurant itself is relaxed but well appointed in the style you expect from Pappas. Run people!

Chick-N-Run Hot Chicken & Wings is a little hidden gem in Friendswood that I discovered on Facebook…read morein a local foodie group. It is off a main road but pretty easy to miss if you are not looking for it. I just happened to be in the area and checked my bookmarks for something close and was reminded to check this place out. I pulled up to a empty parking lot on a Sunday afternoon. There was one table waiting on their food. Customer service was great. I'm not sure who took my order, but he gave me owner or manager vibes as he sat working on a laptop between customers. The screens above the cash register where the menu is displayed was off so I had to use a paper menu on the counter. I wouldn't say I'm a big Nashville hot chicken guy, but every once in awhile I get a craving for it. The name of the restaurant implies they have wings, but I did not see it on the menu or ask about them. That would usually have been my go to at a chicken spot. The item that did stand out to me was the Korean Chicken. I was told it's a popular item and I could pick my spice level. It already comes with white rice but you can make it a combo with fries and a drink. I went that route but also added fried okra because fried okra is always a must. I see other reviews commenting about store bought products and what not. That doesn't bother me as long as my food taste good. For example, I saw frozen fries but they were cooked perfect and seasoned just right. My only complaint would be the use of bottled drinks instead of a soda fountain. When serving spicy food, ice and refills would come in clutch! Back to the food. My good came out piping hot and it smelled delicious. The portions were huge and I immediately asked for a to go box. It was easily two full sized meals. The Korean chicken had a very tasty glaze on them and packed some heat. It had me sweating but was very enjoyable. I only wish that it was a little more crispy as Korean Fried Chicken usually is. Fries were from a bad but good. The okra was so delicious and seasoned just right with a touch of salt. Not a healthy meal by any means but very good. Overall, I'm glad I finally got a chance to check this place out. It is out of the way, but I would most definitely come back if in the area.
