I'm finally dusting off my old 2017 review for Boondoggles to provide an update. ​I returned here last night for a pre-birthday outing. While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. ​The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. ​The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. ​I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable. read more

Whatever I order: pizza, chicken tenders, pizza chips, chicken sandwich, burger, this place never disappoints. If you go, make sure to order their french fries and a side of ranch. I found out about this place through a TikTok account when someone did a post. I am always looking for local restaurants to support. Boondoggles did not disappoint! The staff was amazing and the food was delicious. The manager even visited the table and was phenomenal. We had to get the wings, we love wings. We appreciate wings that are not frozen. They have delicious wood fired pizza. Get the pizza! They have an amazing menu of craft beers as well. Boondoggles is laid back and great for date night or even for the fam! We wanted a Rueben like Ziggy's Downtown. We googled Best Rubens in our area and Boondoggles came up. Great we love Boondoggles. Used to go there all the time when we had our boat and now kayaks. We sat inside for the first time. Dark, a little loud for 2 o'clock in the afternoon. That's OK we've been bartenders before, we adapt. We asked the bartender about the claim of being the best Rueben in the area, "It was the best sandwich on the menu in her opinion." Great we ordered 2. Disappointment. Skimpy corn beef. No more than 2 tablespoons of sauerkraut tops, no sauce apparent until we found tiny cups, buried under the homemade and yummy chips. The biggest part of this sandwich was the VERY DRY toasted rye bread. Boondoggles is a great place to go and party pulling up your boat to park right there. We're five stars on their pup friendly patio but we can't recommend the Rueben. ‍ read more

Was looking for a dog friendly restaurant that offered more than just burgers and wings, and we got that and more. This very unique spot offers lots of shaded patio seating and plenty of parking. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and was able to self seat immediately. They offered our Pepper a cold bowl of water, which we loved. Our server was very nice and quick. We ordered everything from brick oven pizza, pesto pasta, grilled chicken and even a Pup a patty! Everything was super yummy and Pepper was happy! The Hawaii Pizza with shrimp was a first and a you must try! Great food, great service overall great experience! The food here is not good like the cheese for the pizza is weird and has a Vomit smell to it and definitely burnt a lot on all the slices . All the menu items are just taste like there deer meat not cooked . The staff here just are very shady and sorta rude. The inside of this place is just dirty old and rotten . Went for a few bites, we tried the pizza chips, amazing!! The buffalo wings, were saucey and crispy! The fried ravioli were probably my favorite though, the filling was so good and had a little spice to them! Very tasty! We wanted to get a pizza, but were too full from our appetizers! Next time! Awful service. The hostess took us to a table (party of 4), which was the only table without a QR code for the menu. We sat for 15 minutes & were not brought menus, drinks, or even acknowledged. I went up to the hostess & asked for menus so we could at least figure out what to order, in hopes that we would be served. Another 15 minutes went by & no one bothered to ever come up to us. We walked out & the hostess offered us an apology: "I have no idea where your server is." We never had one to begin with. Also notable, it was not busy. There was another party of 4 who came in after us & had drinks + put in their food order by the time we left. 0/10 recommend. All 4 of us have served in nicer restaurants before & recognize this as wrong. Overall, my best advice is to not bother even considering this place. Save your time & don't waste money on a place that falls short in every way possible. read more

A big shout out to Elizabeth (Lizze) our waitress from Tom & Rhonda; and John & Cindy. We took our friends here for their first time and it was our second time. We raved about our last meal here; mine was buttermilk fried chicken with sides of Yams and green beans; and Rhonda had Fish & Chips which were to die for. John and Cindy ordered a pizza. We did as well. After discussing our last meal with them, they decided to order Fish & Chips to take home what was left. After finishing our pizza we decided to order Fish and Chips to take home too. We then couldn't pass up a delectable cheesecake for dessert. John & Cindy took home a chocolate cake for their dessert. All-in-all it was a fantastic lunch date with friends. Drove in from Galveston. Sunday Funday. Sat at bar inside because it was a bit chilly/windy for the outside patio today. Seems like this location would be great for outdoor entertainment (they have the space outside but, what do I know?) No Covid masks required but staff wore them. Brook was our bartender; she was friendly and attentive. We had beer from Austin (amber) and a "tropical thunder" cocktail...tasty! We shared a fried shrimp basket...huge shrimp that were slightly overcooked...a tad too rubbery for me which is weird because the food came out quick...5 minutes after we ordered. We ate it all though...no worries! It's an all wood interior, not much decor...or ambiance to it. A few TV's...that's it. (No TV outside) Pet friendly and next door to Chelsea Wine Bar. read more

I've tried almost every pizza place in Houston and when on a quest to find the best: so far it's the BackPacker from Gypsy Poet. 2nd Place is the Tejas Pizza here at Boondoggles I have been coming here for YEARS. Awful experience yesterday around 6:00 pm for dinner. I ordered the Gyro pizza and it should be embarrassing for you to serve something this bad. The pizza crust and cheese were hard as a rock. There was hardly any gyro meat with few tomatoes and too many onions. It tasted like the pizza dough and cheese were frozen and microwaved and a few onions and tomatoes were thrown on top and was served. There is no way this was fresh. I was extremely disappointed and if my daughter had not been with me I would have returned it entirely. I have lived in this area for 25 years and expected more from you. They are literally crawling all over the counters at the bar and all over the beer taps, we loved this place, and frequency is it until we sat at the bar one night, and saw the infestation, and even give it another chance a few weeks later, and it was even worse, the employees even make jokes about the roaches, unbelievable because the food is so good and it's a cool place, but just can't go back in there until something is done! we really hope they get it together because we are one of many that ride our golf cart up there frequently but that's all over until the infestation is taken care of !
