Lived in Clear Lake for the last decade and a half and have been to this place a couple times. Def a local favorite. But last night was the last time I'll ever set foot in this place again. Server was the rudest person we've ever met. Ordered a Tito's and Cranberry double talk with no lime. Server asks if I want club soda in the drink. Weird, but I told her no. Server brings the drink with a lime. Specifically asked for no lime. Go to the restroom and coke back to see my gf displeased with her drink. I ask what's wrong the server says she put club soda in it. Like how do you not listen? There wasn't 5 people at the bar. Now we order food, pizza, specifically asked for pizza to be cooked crispy. We were served with a soggy lumpy pizza. When I asked the server if she told the cooks crispy her response was that she did. Then she walks to the end of the bar and tells says to another server, OUT LOUD, and in front of every person there, "This guy is a f*kn a$$h0le. I gave this place 4 stars because to get to go meals you have to drive past and behind one restaurant to get to the back of the parking lot where boondoggles sits, try to find parking, then walk through a busy crowded restaurant and into the bar to order or pick up because the bar is where they are made. I wasn't wanting to dress up to go get a Togo meal so I was quite embarrassed when I went to pick up the order I called in and had to go past the crowd. The fish and chips I got would have been wonderful had I just stayed.. they are cold by the time I got home but I have to say they were really good even cold. The fish comes in these large "log" shaped pieces and you get about 5. The fries were average but still good. Next time I would eat them in my car if I didn't want to sit inside. read more

I finally took some time to try this place after my boyfriend and friends kept raving about it! I had the fish and chips (cod) and my goodness it was good! It came with a size of homemade fries, tarter sauce and a few hush puppies. If you're looking for some crispy, authentic just overall good fish and chips- this is your place. It would honestly be one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The batter was crispy, golden and had a really authentic flavor to it. They also had a phenomenal beer selection, which was nice to see. The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because the service was terrible. When we originally arrived, we stood at the door for what felt like forever before someone even greeted us, but once they did we were seated right away which was nice. I was really disappointed with our waiter as he really lacked politeness and any question that was asked, it seemed like we were bothering him. We felt rushed every time he came by to ask us if we were ready to order drinks, almost like they were about to close in 5 minutes- but that was not the case. We waited for over an hour and then I checked to see where our order was and Armando said that he never wrote it down and did we want to order food. At first we thought he was joking. Actually I can't really tell if I just can't handle oil anymore, but the only thing that I could bash on the fish and chips on would be that it left me feeling a little queasy due to all the fats I just consumed in the dish. Yes I know fish is fatty and yes I know it's deep fried and YES I KNOW THERE ARE FRENCH FRIES BUT STILL. Despite all that I thought the batter was incredibly crispy and the fish was flaky yet somewhat firm. I would've preferred them a tad bit firmer but hey, what can ya do. No fishiness as well. Service was good as the waiter was amicable. Food came out relatively quick for our party of 4. Price point was fair. Much of the rating is due to the fish and chips themselves. Come here often and typically have good service. Tonight was complete opposite. I'm saddened by the lack of respect and Don't want to dine here again. I simply needed a kids meal to go and have never been treated so rudely and shuffled to so many places. Clearly the host staff and bar staff have different directions for to go orders. 09/03/21 After a 3 + year hiatus from here, I mistakenly thought it would be a good idea to return, and eat dinner, and enjoy a few pints. 1) My server; tall, beefy, ass wipe with the requisite beard, who couldn't have been a bigger asshat/douchebag had he tried. Came to the table with a piss-poor attitude that in my younger days would have resulted in my beating the piss out of him. 2) The ambitiously priced, $15+ for Fish & Chips. Turned out to be 5 Mrs. Paul's Fish Fingers & a pile of fries, plus a couple of over cooked hush puppies. 3) No "how was everything?" No "would you like another beer?" My rating is based mostly on the atmosphere, service and drink menu. The food here was underwhelming on our visit. I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time and my wife and I finally ventured through its doors. Though it was pretty much packed, we were seated immediately and were actually able to carry on a conversation. I must confess that I tried to secretly catch a few pitches between the Rangers and Astros during said conversations, but I digress. Our server, whose name I cannot remember, was spot on. She helped us with some drink menu explanations and seemed to be at our table each time we needed something. Outstanding. The food was run-of-the-mill. My wife ordered fish & chips, which arrived hot and fresh. Our server said they are hand battered on the premises, and they were fine. My wings were OK too ... nothing special. The pizza turned out to be my greatest disappointment, as the crust was floppy with nary a crisp bite to be had. The taste was there, but a brick oven pizza should produce something with a slight crisp, a little fluffiness and some char. Boondoggle's drink menu is anything but a disappointment. There's a full bar, but there are also a ton of beers on tap and/or bottled. It features a very nice selection of local beers too. - It should be mentioned that my wife ordered an Old Fashioned (made with whiskey), but ended up not liking it. It had nothing to do with the mix-master, rather she just didn't like the combination of flavors (sort of like me not liking anything fruity and frozen). We didn't say anything to our server, because there was nothing wrong with the drink. But she was attentive enough to realize that the drink had been barely touched, and removed the charge from our check. - When an establishment goes above and beyond to that degree, I'm inclined to patronize them more frequently. There will be a second visit here ... and likely a third. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on the pizza and hope for that crisp fluffy char next time around. Meanwhile, there are plenty of beers still to be sampled. read more

I absolutely love it here: The homemade pizza and the specials they have of the week is cool! The alcohol selection is amazing because they serve my favourite malted beer: Angry Orchard. It pairs very well with the pizza. That's the only time I drink here when I order pizza. The more greasiness, the less I'll be intoxicated. All the food I've sampled here is delicious. The prices fit around my budget too. Also, the ladies restroom is always clean. My dad has a problem with the pizza, but I don't care because it's dang-good to me. read more

"Boondoggle's" is just as much fun to say as it is to actually hang out there. It's a lakeside bar, which I like. Great energy, great crowd and great fire baked pizzas! They've got a good selection of craft beers. I dabbled around and eventually found a really good Czech brew along with Saint Arnold Santo (highly rec). This place has a mixed feel of a patio bar and a restaurant. There were families inside (yes, even kiddos) and then the after-work happy hour groups like my little entourage - kickin' it outside. And there were lots of dogs, too; love that Boondoggle's is pup-friendly. Parking is a plenty. Servers were prompt, and did I mention the pizza was good? If you are looking for a local spot that has good beer selection, good food, good ambience for hanging out then Boondogles is it! The place is by the water right next to Chelsea Wine bar. Parking is ample, although it can be dark at night. they have a patio with a separate bar outside, and you can have your dogs with you. It's pretty cool. For the food I can say they are known for their pizza. I have never had a bad pie here. They have other things on the menu that I have not tried yet but all my friends never had a complaint with whatever they have. I have had their ceviche and their wings and both were excellent as well. The beer selection is good enough for a beer connoisseur. They have a bunch on tap, on bottle, and aside from that they have a full bar. All in all this place is a good hang out spot. Never had a bad time here. So if you are looking for a hangout spot with good drinks and food, Boondogles is a place you should highly consider if you are in the NASA/Clear Lake area. read more

Long time (20+ yr) Boondoggles fan. I don't have a mug on the wall, but came close a few times. Was an AWESOME place for many years. Still a great venue. Love the Patio! Like most independent restaurants, they struggled a bit during the cv insanity. Understandable, forgivable. Lots of external things they didn't have control over. But cv is long over in TX. No longer any excuses. I have seen some indications Boondoggles is doing some minor maint and upgrades-which is good. Past 2+ yrs I've been unhappy with the beer availability at Boondoggles. I'd be happy if they EVER had ANY the mainstream DRAFT lagers I and my wife prefer - Stella, Pilsener Urquel, Heineken, Sapporo, Kirin. All of them are dependable, consistently brewed. Something you can rely on. Over the past 20 yrs, I've had too many goofy microbrews that weren't well made or handled. Too many of them are skunky when dispensed and novel for the sake of novelty - not because they taste better. This past Friday was the 4th time out of 4 they didn't have any of the somewhat mainstream lagers or ales we wanted and expected. My wife doesn't want to bother going back. Staff was also invisible on the patio for the 40 mins we were there. A pub that has 50+ taps HAS to have 5-7 dedicated to the top selling products in the Houston - like Stella, Heineken, etc. - not exclusively the latest microbrews. When I go to a pub I want draft, not bottled Heineken or at least a good, high volume (fresh) big branded alternative with good Houston distribution (Stella, etc.) My complaints are all easily fixable. It was great while it lasted, we used to go here almost every Friday but it's almost as if the staff can't keep up with the customers. Lately every time it's busy we get ignored. The last time we came we sat down and no one greeted us or at least got our drink order.
