We went to Sammy G's just before HH ended (6:00). It certainly had a dive atmosphere; very loud--music and people! There were not a lot of 20-30 year olds, but a lot over 55ish. My husband and I are a lot older. We opted for an appetizer of Fried pickles and jalapeño. Plus a nice cold beer; Tiki that was very good. It was our servers first day and she did a great job. Shrimp tacos were very well dressed with fresh jalapeño in the slaw and came out timely once ordered 5/5. Service was slow and it took awhile to put food in but there were only 2 servers including the bartender. Plenty of TV's, nice and cool inside. read more

The food is AMAZING!! The views are so pretty when you sit outside and the food is spectacular. Please eat here if you have the chance!! The prices for food are very reasonable. Ambiance: There is inside and outdoor seating. We sat outside to see the view of the water and many boats passing. If it gets too hot, theres umbrellas. There is also live music downstairs which was super cool. The service is great! Blackened salmon: The salmon was a great portion. The flavor on it was amazing and it was a great sized filet. The fries were also so good! It was a unique shape and it was flavorful. Although, I would not recommend getting the mac and cheese. It wasn't very cheesy and it didnt really taste like classic mac and cheese. Steak w/ crab meat: The crab meat on top was such a nice touch and so flavorful! Friendly staff, plus owner introduced himself and was friendly. Fried Shrimp and Fish were 10/10 giant shrimp , flakey white fish , breaded to perfection. I dined here for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even though it was a bit different than usual. It was cold outside, but the interior was nice and warm, which was a definite plus. Since it was a slow night for an 8 PM in the middle of the week, we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and helped us with our drinks right away. Other patrons, who seemed to be regulars, greeted us and made us feel like we belonged there. It became a bit tricky when the bartender took our order, as she had to check with the chef regarding the availability of certain fish. This made it clear that the items they offered were fresh. A few minutes later, the chef called her back to explain that they didn't have some of the sides we requested. She returned to inform us that their menu was changing, so we chose different sides. Once we received our food, it was apparent why they had limited menu options--the quality was outstanding. All of our dishes were made in-house and very fresh. My husband opted for the ribeye, which was so tender that he was able to cut it with just a butter knife. I had the seared cod, and it was excellent. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely be back. One other plus was we were told they just hired someone to make in-house desserts! This place is a gem. read more

The location is incredible! I loved being in the water! It reminded me of days at the old outriggers where I worked in highschool! I was underwhelmed with my salad with seared tuna maybe if it was cut up and crusted the tuna more instead of one big check I wouldn't liked it more, but the Cesar salad and green goddess dressing was Good! The tornado fries were the Star! My friends got a grilled chicken salad which looked good they said the chicken was juicy, my other friend got the salmon which I tried and was fabulous! As was the green beans which had black olives in it and were interesting but yummy and the Mac n cheese was delicious as well! I'd come back I'd just order something different myself read more

First of all. They aren't sure what time they open. Breakfast menu says 9am and Yelp says open but no one knew when we showed up. Don't do the egg scramble. It was more of a pile of potatoes with a bit of eggs. And they don't have jelly so don't get toast. The only reason they got 3 stars is the Soft Shell BLT was great. They need to skip the breakfast and stick with other items read more

Do not recommend pickup orders from Sammy Gs. I was on vacation from the West Coast and ordered crawfish for pickup. Unfortunately, all of them were so mushy you couldn't peel them. My daughter talked to the restaurant management, and they said no problem, we will refund or credit the credit card. That was two weeks ago, and three follow-up calls later, they keep saying, "We will refund," but guess what... still no refund. Unfortunately, my family that lives locally now goes elsewhere for crawfish after this experience. read more

My husband showed me his cf at the restaurant cf was big and juicy he said it was really good ! I asked him to Togo me some thinking it would be as big and delicious. He brought it home and they were smaller than my pinky and all dead ! He was very surprised and even said it didn't taste or look the same as when he had at the restaurant! He bought 6lbs and cf is not cheap! He and I were very disappointed ! Terrible it's like they picked out all the small and dead ones for Togo orders ! ‍ read more

Well first off it is not the prettiest view as the pictures let in, secondly the menu isn't what you see on here. Everything I wanted was no longer on the menu, the menu now is simple and what you can get at any dive bar. Then I ordered beer and instead of glass bottles or a glass at all I received a can beer, of dosxx, just not a fan. After that we ordered boudin and to be honest it was actually good...but here is the kicker!! The boy delivered it wearing head phones, plopped it on the table and turned away I said hey wait!! Because I knew we had not napkins utensils or plates...he couldn't hear me so I clapped my hands to get his attention, that didn't work but another table was able to get his attention. He came back I said we need plates and something to eat with like a fork and napkins would be nice. I went upstairs and spoke with the "manager"! He gave me lip service and said he would be down soon to make it right...30 minutes later we just left! Just bad all the way around!! Not worth the money!! And the manager looks just as bad as headphone boy at this point!! DONT GO!!!!!!! Waste of time and money! This is exactly what happens when you hire managers that act like they know the industry, yes they do, they know how to make it a shit show. I am from the restaurant industry and recognize this pretty quickly. A lot of talk and so much talk that the place goes down hill fast with poorly managed business. He should have acted much differently and showed up like her said he would. But I honestly don't think he had any intention to do so. It was just lip service and to be honest how do have employees wearing headphones and have no idea?? Same reason the menu went to simple, no one cares! read more

Great place to park your jet skies for lunch over the water. My friends & I ride Taylor Lake a lot as the water is calmer, beautiful scenery, and fun wave ride. We always stop at Sammy G's for a margarita on the rocks and a shrimp basket. All the food is great! The best server is now a bartender, Aaron I believe is his name. Highly recommended :) read more

Prices seem ridiculous! Gnats everywhere. The wings were decent, but I am not gonna pay $20 for a double cheeseburger. Ambiance is definitely dive bar. Barstools are rickety, and don't feel like they would support me--in fact, the floor moves whenever someone walks by. The place is on stilts so maybe not the safest bar unless you want to take a literal dive. read more

Zac did an amazing job serving us highly recommend him! The food and atmosphere were both great, and the owner's an awesome guy too. You can come by boat or car, which makes it even better. There aren't many spots around Clear Lake where you can enjoy good drinks, great food, and a chill vibe like this one. Definitely worth checking out! read more

They stay open late when others are closed! The staff is also wonderfully friendly and super accommodating. The owner and chef will both talk to you about the menu and help you order. We had a wonderful late night meal when we couldn't find anything else open. read more

So happy this place has finally opened!!! What an amazing experience!!! Great food, great service, great music and amazing views! Such a fun vibe and really looking forward to going back again soon! Food exceeded our expectations. We went on a Friday, sat at the bar and took advantage of the $10 lunch baskets. I had the fish basket, which I couldn't finish and he had the shrimp basket. I would have thought being built up in the air over the water there would be a great view of the marina and waterway there on the waterfront. Problem is when you sit down at a table you cannot see out the windows, windows are over your head. I think they would be better served with high top tables so guests can enjoy the view. We had the El Lago fish sandwich, looked good, tasted good but was not designed to fit between two buns without the sandwich falling apart in your hands and having to eat it with a fork. A little more thought might be invested on design, otherwise I would be happy with just the fish without the bun. Menu looked great, will have to come back at another time. read more

Unassuming place on the water in the middle of a boatyard, but don't sleep on this place. Service is always great, and the owner is very visible. We have sampled nearly everything on the menu at this point, and have had nothing but great food. Food and drink specials are a great value, and the happy hour is worth the stop on its own. Oh, and it's dog-friendly. Give it a try, ya'll. read more

I did receive a small percentage off my order for military discount, I forget what it was exactly, but the friendliness and ambiance made it extra worth choose Cookshack for lunch!

Later, when they had it back online, it tasted like metal. Clean the lines. Do better, Texas Huddle. More attentive servers (don't turn you back to me at the bar for 10 minutes while you chat with friends), do something to get people in this place. Advertise your drink specials from the street. And wait until 11 p.m. to play the awful, disgusting rap music. Or better, don't do it at all.

While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

It comes with very good mashed potatoes. I don't like most restaurants potatoes, so that's a bonus win. Really enjoyed, would get it again. The beer! They have a really good menu that rotates. They have local craft brews, in addition to your standard domestics. They also have ciders for those that don't fancy a beer. Our last visit I had a Belgian Tripel, and a Pumpkin Stout. Delish! A great spot for a lunch or chill dinner. Plenty of tv space for games. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
