We went to Sammy G's just before HH ended (6:00). It certainly had a dive atmosphere; very loud--music and people! There were not a lot of 20-30 year olds, but a lot over 55ish. My husband and I are a lot older. We opted for an appetizer of Fried pickles and jalapeño. Plus a nice cold beer; Tiki that was very good. It was our servers first day and she did a great job. Maybe they're working things out, but I went today and spent 1 hour and 10 min total. Sat at the bar. The bartender was nice enough but very busy. I ordered a burger and fries. It took 45 minutes to get my meal - a simple burger n fries. The burger was great and the size was big. They have thick plank fries. If I go again, Ima ask for crispy cuz they needed more heat. She said the kitchen was backed up with lunch hour orders, but I could not see where all customers were sitting that caused it. The 3 guys sitting near me, and who arrived after me, got their orders 10 min before me. read more

Shrimp tacos were very well dressed with fresh jalapeño in the slaw and came out timely once ordered 5/5. Service was slow and it took awhile to put food in but there were only 2 servers including the bartender. Plenty of TV's, nice and cool inside. read more

The food is AMAZING!! The views are so pretty when you sit outside and the food is spectacular. Please eat here if you have the chance!! The prices for food are very reasonable. Ambiance: There is inside and outdoor seating. We sat outside to see the view of the water and many boats passing. If it gets too hot, theres umbrellas. There is also live music downstairs which was super cool. The service is great! Blackened salmon: The salmon was a great portion. The flavor on it was amazing and it was a great sized filet. The fries were also so good! It was a unique shape and it was flavorful. Although, I would not recommend getting the mac and cheese. It wasn't very cheesy and it didnt really taste like classic mac and cheese. Steak w/ crab meat: The crab meat on top was such a nice touch and so flavorful! Friendly staff, plus owner introduced himself and was friendly. Fried Shrimp and Fish were 10/10 giant shrimp , flakey white fish , breaded to perfection. I dined here for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even though it was a bit different than usual. It was cold outside, but the interior was nice and warm, which was a definite plus. Since it was a slow night for an 8 PM in the middle of the week, we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and helped us with our drinks right away. Other patrons, who seemed to be regulars, greeted us and made us feel like we belonged there. It became a bit tricky when the bartender took our order, as she had to check with the chef regarding the availability of certain fish. This made it clear that the items they offered were fresh. A few minutes later, the chef called her back to explain that they didn't have some of the sides we requested. She returned to inform us that their menu was changing, so we chose different sides. Once we received our food, it was apparent why they had limited menu options--the quality was outstanding. All of our dishes were made in-house and very fresh. My husband opted for the ribeye, which was so tender that he was able to cut it with just a butter knife. I had the seared cod, and it was excellent. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely be back. One other plus was we were told they just hired someone to make in-house desserts! This place is a gem. read more

The location is incredible! I loved being in the water! It reminded me of days at the old outriggers where I worked in highschool! I was underwhelmed with my salad with seared tuna maybe if it was cut up and crusted the tuna more instead of one big check I wouldn't liked it more, but the Cesar salad and green goddess dressing was Good! The tornado fries were the Star! My friends got a grilled chicken salad which looked good they said the chicken was juicy, my other friend got the salmon which I tried and was fabulous! As was the green beans which had black olives in it and were interesting but yummy and the Mac n cheese was delicious as well! I'd come back I'd just order something different myself read more

First of all. They aren't sure what time they open. Breakfast menu says 9am and Yelp says open but no one knew when we showed up. Don't do the egg scramble. It was more of a pile of potatoes with a bit of eggs. And they don't have jelly so don't get toast. The only reason they got 3 stars is the Soft Shell BLT was great. They need to skip the breakfast and stick with other items read more

My husband showed me his cf at the restaurant cf was big and juicy he said it was really good ! I asked him to Togo me some thinking it would be as big and delicious. He brought it home and they were smaller than my pinky and all dead ! He was very surprised and even said it didn't taste or look the same as when he had at the restaurant! He bought 6lbs and cf is not cheap! He and I were very disappointed ! Terrible it's like they picked out all the small and dead ones for Togo orders ! ‍ read more

Do not recommend pickup orders from Sammy Gs. I was on vacation from the West Coast and ordered crawfish for pickup. Unfortunately, all of them were so mushy you couldn't peel them. My daughter talked to the restaurant management, and they said no problem, we will refund or credit the credit card. That was two weeks ago, and three follow-up calls later, they keep saying, "We will refund," but guess what... still no refund. Unfortunately, my family that lives locally now goes elsewhere for crawfish after this experience. read more

Well first off it is not the prettiest view as the pictures let in, secondly the menu isn't what you see on here. Everything I wanted was no longer on the menu, the menu now is simple and what you can get at any dive bar. Then I ordered beer and instead of glass bottles or a glass at all I received a can beer, of dosxx, just not a fan. After that we ordered boudin and to be honest it was actually good...but here is the kicker!! The boy delivered it wearing head phones, plopped it on the table and turned away I said hey wait!! Because I knew we had not napkins utensils or plates...he couldn't hear me so I clapped my hands to get his attention, that didn't work but another table was able to get his attention. He came back I said we need plates and something to eat with like a fork and napkins would be nice. I went upstairs and spoke with the "manager"! He gave me lip service and said he would be down soon to make it right...30 minutes later we just left! Just bad all the way around!! Not worth the money!! And the manager looks just as bad as headphone boy at this point!! DONT GO!!!!!!! Waste of time and money! This is exactly what happens when you hire managers that act like they know the industry, yes they do, they know how to make it a shit show. I am from the restaurant industry and recognize this pretty quickly. A lot of talk and so much talk that the place goes down hill fast with poorly managed business. He should have acted much differently and showed up like her said he would. But I honestly don't think he had any intention to do so. It was just lip service and to be honest how do have employees wearing headphones and have no idea?? Same reason the menu went to simple, no one cares! read more

Great place to park your jet skies for lunch over the water. My friends & I ride Taylor Lake a lot as the water is calmer, beautiful scenery, and fun wave ride. We always stop at Sammy G's for a margarita on the rocks and a shrimp basket. All the food is great! The best server is now a bartender, Aaron I believe is his name. Highly recommended :) read more

Prices seem ridiculous! Gnats everywhere. The wings were decent, but I am not gonna pay $20 for a double cheeseburger. Ambiance is definitely dive bar. Barstools are rickety, and don't feel like they would support me--in fact, the floor moves whenever someone walks by. The place is on stilts so maybe not the safest bar unless you want to take a literal dive. read more

Zac did an amazing job serving us highly recommend him! The food and atmosphere were both great, and the owner's an awesome guy too. You can come by boat or car, which makes it even better. Food exceeded our expectations. We went on a Friday, sat at the bar and took advantage of the $10 lunch baskets. I had the fish basket, which I couldn't finish and he had the shrimp basket. There is just enough seating options (indoor and outdoor) to feel spacious, yet also intimate at the same time. The bar offers a nice view of the open kitchen, and a small TV. Love the framed art pieces and the uber clean restrooms. While their woodfired oven cooked pizzas don't resemble anything from NY, they still manage to stand out on their own. The margherita looks the part, which is thankfully nothing like the nearby competition. The elote crema is a fun spin, the busy bee is a hearty option, and the banhmizza shouldn't work yet they've managed to pull it off. The consistency has been an issue in the past, with some that feel overly doughy, feature a less than cooked undercarriage, or an overly charred bubbly edge. Thankfully it hasn't deterred my visits in the slightest. Where there are pizzas, there are pastas and they are just as popular. The brie alfredo is a colorful and indulgent option, as is the 5 cheese mac with crunchy quinoa on top. Their totally baked bolognese is very tasty, but the short rib ragu has been the go-to dish overall. I would be remiss if I didn't mention their cocktails, which are simple but quite nice. The root beer old fashioned is potent and sweet, while the girlfriend is a nice blend of gin and elderflower liqueur with floral additions such as rosewater, hibiscus, finished with lemon and egg white. The lychee sour is also an easy one to love, while sweet tooths might love the bedrock cocktail and it's fruity pebbles infused vodka. Lastly, the staff is very on it from all aspects of service. The savory Kosher beef frank is complimented by the sweet and salty chargrilled pork, pickled carrots and daikon, and spicy sriracha mayo and jalapenos. The crunchy pickled vegetables and creamy mayo stand out against the tender pork and beef frank. I would definitely reorder the Nobi dog at a future visit. Unfortunately, the Nobi egg sandwich was only mediocre and left and impression no more than the simply the sum of its parts. The chargrilled pork was flavorful and egg had a pleasant fluffy texture, but the sandwich as a whole tasted rather boring and uninteresting, especially compared to the Nobi dog. The bittersweet sundae was a stout brownie with vanilla gelato, covered in whipped cream and was the lowest point of this meal, and I would recommend against ordering it. In my opinion, there was entirely too much whipped cream, which was foamy and runny and had a metallic off-note, perhaps from the can it likely came from. After digging through the mountain of whipped cream, I was further disappointed by the texture of the brownie, which had an unpleasant eggy taste and texture. The vanilla gelato was only okay, and did little to salvage this disappointing dessert. Despite its shortcomings, Nobi's service was excellent and attentive. Even on a crowded Tuesday dinner, our waiter frequently checked in on our party. The restaurant is fairly spacious and can accommodate large (8+ people) parties, however it may be a challenge if you plan to visit on a Tuesday night. Overall I would return to Nobi's, specifically for the Nobi dog or the amazing $10 pork chop deal and to explore their wide selection of beers. Aside from that, I would be willing to try other items, but I definitely would not reorder the Nobi egg sandwich nor the bittersweet sundae.

Sammy G's Sammy G's is the kind of place you don't expect to win you over, which is exactly why it does. At first glance, it is not some gleaming waterfront temple to seafood. It sits tucked into the middle of a working shipyard and repair station, perched high on stilts, looking out over the boat canal that cuts toward Clear Lake. Boats nose in nearby. Machinery, water, salt air, and the honest clutter of a place that actually does something surround it. That, to me, is already a good sign. The place still has that new-restaurant sheen on it, but not in a sterile, corporate way. It was busy when we went--boaters, locals, the kind of crowd that usually knows where the good fried things live. There was something about it that reminded me of Outriggers under the bridge: casual, loud enough, coastal, and unpretentious in all the right ways. Now, the food. I ordered the shrimp basket, expecting the usual sad parade of frozen, breaded, food-service mediocrity. That is not what showed up. These were real Gulf Coast shrimp, plump and properly fried, with a batter that tasted homemade--cornmeal, spice, crunch, and restraint. Close to perfect, if we are being honest. And the hush puppies? Dangerous. The kind of side dish that stops being a side dish after the first bite. I could have sat there with a basket of those, a cold Shiner Bock, and called it dinner without complaint. The waitstaff and bar crew were friendly, quick, and seemed genuinely glad to be there, which is not nothing. Food came out fast. The whole experience had the rare pleasure of a place exceeding expectations without trying too hard. I went in unsure what to make of Sammy G's.
