And listen, I'm basically a certified alcoholic (just kidding... allegedly), so trust me when I say I know a good drink when I taste one. I've sampled enough lovely liquors in my day to know what's good and what's just overpriced sadness in a glass. Bella is COMMITTED to her craft. She literally told me she studies cocktail recipes day and night. Like... how cute is that? Meanwhile I can barely commit to folding my laundry. Then she proceeds to make me the SMOOTHEST, yummiest espresso martini my tastebuds have ever had the privilege of experiencing. One sip and I was astonished, emotional, slightly turned on, all of the above. This woman has the shake hands of a goddess. I think I fell in love a little bit. Also, shoutout to the super friendly man in the Hawaiian shirt and Bob Ross-style beret. He brought immaculate vibes to the whole place and made the experience even better (for the most part). We have been coming here for years. Always take the slightly underwhelming attempt of a cocktail bar for what it is. I understand we don't have many options on this side of town, so we keep coming back despite the lack of energy. But tonight, the bartender questioned us that we weren't being patient enough for our beverages. Well if you want to be a successful cocktail bar, perhaps have more than one bartender (that's not aggressive) on a Thursday night. We decided to try Preamble on Halloween night and we are so glad we did! We enjoyed it so much we instantly invited a friend to join us. We chose this location because of their old fashion options. Their prices are affordable, the service is always exceptional (we've been back twice), and the ambiance is relaxing. Parking is never a problem but the lounge can get crowded around 10pm. It always pains me to leave a bad review. Ugh. Such a weird experience. When we entered the place was mostly empty. The bartenders made no interaction with us even though we sat at the bar. I was trying to decide what drink to order and told my spouse what I decided on. We were never asked what we wanted. After about 5 minutes one of the bartenders started making a drink. I was wondering if it was mine????? I never placed an order. It was mine! So I asked my husband what he wanted. Lol The drinks were very average. Definitely not craft ingredients even though they had fresh garnishes. Luckily, it was happy hour prices. Also, although their menu stated shareables, they no longer have a kitchen. We stumbled upon this super cool and unique bar when we were traveling. The ambiance was incredibly relaxing and the music was great! The craft bar menu was outstanding and we got lucky and hit it on the right night, Monday, which is happy hour all day/night. Mariam (I hope I'm spelling that right) is the whole reason for this rating. She seriously takes pride in her craft. Makes a HELL of old fashioned and understands the different whiskey categories. I enjoyed her old fashioned first and later she was busy so I took the chance on another bartender whom was obviously less skilled and understanding of the craft. Mariam saw this and couldn't stand that he'd disrespected the drink with regular ice and a rainshower of bitters after I requested a old forester 1897 old fashioned, took charge and made me another that blew the mistake out of the life water. There really wasn't anything to rave about with this place. We arrived in a rather desolate shopping center where the lounge was and saw one of the employees chilling out front smoking a cigarette. She followed us in and introduced herself as our waitress. The place had a dimmed light atmosphere but not in the fancy restaurant kind of way. It was more of a dead-until-the-midnight-party kind of vibe. The music wasn't loud while we were there which was nice. The service was one of the worst I've had when it comes to skill and the water came from a help-yourself-jug on the bar (odd). The food was okay but all of the meals didn't come out of the kitchen together. I'm not sure if the was server error or normal practice. It's definitely not a place I'll go back to. I'd probably vote to not go there if my friends bring it up. read more

Came here for an Old Fashioned while in town for business. The place was exactly what I hoped it was with the dark interior and such. Great cocktails, slow service. Preamble is a much needed addition to this area! But don't come here if you're looking to have a quick drink, it's definitely more of a laid back bar where you're not in a rush to go anywhere. Weekends get busy here so just be prepared to wait awhile to get your drinks, but I'll admit the cocktails are worth the wait. The atmosphere has a cool ambiance to the place. They usually have good music playing, live music on weekends, and there is 1 TV. With multiple seating areas including the bar, a couple small tables, a bigger communal table, and some couches, there is room for everyone. Although it can get confusing because sometimes I've come here and we had to order at the bar, and other times there was a waiter that took our drink order. Although I don't remember the names of all the different drinks we tried, I do know for sure that there wasn't a single drink we didn't enjoy! The servers here walked by us multiple times without even an acknowledgment. I cannot judge the quality of the drinks; however, I can judge the service of the staff and quality of the bathrooms which is far less than adequate on both perspectives. They will choose who they think is worth serving and leave the others to sit with no service and no drinks. Very odd for a place that *respects* its veterans and service workers. Happy New Year! This unassuming corner spot has some tasty cocktails! We decided to stop by after having sushi in the same shopping center. I presume the owner greeted us at the bar where we inquired about a certain liquor (didn't have it) so we tried a moscow mule and a spicy cucumber martini. The ironically mustached bartender whipped em up and delivered them to the high top we sat at since the bar was crowded and other tables reserved for new years guests. The music was an interesting mix of Taylor Swift and mellow pop/rock so that could use a lil tweaking unless you're in the mood for that sort of thing. It was a very chill vibe but felt more like a cafe than a bar. We had to deliver our own credit card before we left after one drink but overall it was a nice place! P.S. The ambiance...the drinks...the bartenders. This place RULES! From the outside, you would totally miss it. Looks like an old retail clothing store. But inside you will find an open hipster ceiling, full cocktail bar, and even old authentic couches and seating that just wrap your body up while gripping that finely stirred old fashioned. 10/10 recommend the Manhattan. I love coming to this place. Starting off, on Wednesday they do prime rib for $20 and for $22 you can get a mule paired with it. It also comes with mashed potatoes, a delicious balsamic vinaigrette salad and aju sauce! Mmmmmm!!! When I say this steak is bomb I really mean it! It beats all the steak houses in the area! The drinks here are phenomenal! Everything you order here is delicious and is all hand crafted. YOU CAN DEFINITELY TASTE THE LOVE! The appetizers are the perfect bar food to pair up with any drink starting from flat bread to elote and cannon balls (stuffed mushrooms with cream cheese, bacon and chives). They also make seasonal menus on a regular so that there is always something new. I STRONGLY suggest giving this place out a try. For women I recommend a drink called labor of love and it comes with a Brûlée top. For guys I'd suggest there whiskey sour or there cherry old fashion. If you'd asked me a couple of years ago, I'd give them a bad review but I stopped going because it had really gone downhill since it first opened. I read it was under new ownership so gave it a try. Good cocktails, good happy hour, good prices, good service. Nice ambience, live music. My only negative is employees behind the bar on their phones. It didn't hinder the service and the bartenders were pleasant. It's just not a good look when there are customers. read more

I have been back to Preamble a handful of times since writing my original review. I'm happy that they serve food now! I haven't had a chance to go on prime rib night (Wednesdays), but I was there last Friday. I tried the mac and cheese and it was delicious and filling! The bowl is a lot larger than it seems.The bacon crumbles on top are a nice touch! I ate that for dinner and was good to go the rest of the night. I had a cucumber martini and it was delicious! I always have a great experience at Preamble! I'm so happy to have a great craft cocktail bars outside of the loop! read more
