But crab-stuffed shrimp tasted very fishy. But overall, it was very good. I absolutely love the black beans and rice here. But wow, the music was so loud, it was very difficult to communicate with our waitress. They also need to work on their margaritas. What a difference a location makes. I have visited Vida Mariscos in Katy Texas several times which is very good but this particular location is incredible. The service is absolutely brilliant. The food was simply wonderful. It was packed yet quite comfortable and the ambience is simply excellent. The Mariachi simply enhanced the entire evening, however the pulpo and habanero ceviche were perfect and when I say perfect, I would contrast it to pulpo that I have had in Tijuana and ceviche that I've had all along the Pacific side of lower North America from Mexico to Costa Rica to Panama. My husband and I had lunch today at Vida Mariscos, we hadn't been there in a while now. We were famished! I ordered immediately a shrimp soup, and my husband a zarandeado fish. They brought us their delicious carrot curtido, and beautiful perfect buns fresh from the oven. Our food came in like 10 minutes, the soup was just like I expected and wanted it to be, super flavorful! Can't recommend this enough! The soup comes with rice, and a chicken taco, the chicken was good. The pescado zarandeado was amazing! Super fresh snapper, PERFECTLY cooked, and the flavor of that adobo it's to die for! Vida Mariscos is much bigger on the inside, the staff are kind and patient, and sometimes they'll have mariachi bands perform at night! The staff even decorated some tables with heart shaped balloons for Valentine's Day! The cuisine is Mexican-seafood and grill. Vida Mariscos is a sports bar, but this restaurant is family friendly. The prices are not too bad. I'm not a drinker, but for those of you who love alcohol, Vida Mariscos has more than one bar inside. Once seated, you're served bread rolls, baked fresh from the oven. They also give you carrots pickled in jalapenos. That's one way to get you to eat your veggies! The dinner portions are plentiful, I'll tell you that. If you're allergic to fish/seafood or just hate that stuff (like me), tough luck, 90 percent of their menu consists of fish/seafood. Their queso, steak and enchiladas are excellent, though. Their rice is delicious but unusual, it reminded of fried rice! I liked their Tres Leches cake with the meringue on top. Manager failed to accommodate to my family's request. My sister was disturbed after swallowing a hidden piece of the fish spine in her fillet, and found many more parts of the fish in her meal. Manager was called over and carelessly said he'll be there if anything incase of an emergency. Alongside the manager decided to validate the excuse of meals being served with bones inside. I was excited about the opening of this newish Mexican seafood restaurant and sports bar. Vida Mariscos is a part of the Cabrera group of restaurants which include Los Cucos. I've only eaten at Los Cucos when in a different part of the Houston metroplex simply because there isn't one in the Clear Lake area. With that being said, if you are looking for a Tex-Mex restaurant, this isn't it. Vida Mariscos (loosely translated Seafood Life if my memory of Spanish is correct) is a Mexican seafood sports bar. There are TV's on every available piece of drywall in this restaurant. I have been here twice. I ordered the ceviche as an appetizer both times. The ceviche is very good. I recommend it. The seafood dishes are average to good. It really depends on what you order. We went for lunch one day and really enjoyed our meal and vowed to return. When we returned the second time during the dinner hour, the food wasn't as good. Instead of chips prior to the meal, they served pickled carrots. Yes, that is not a typo. They were okay but definitely on the spicy side. Ours, along with every other table I observed, had many carrots remaining as meals were being served. Seems like a big waste of carrots to me. I simply don't see the carrots being served long-term as a pre-meal snack. The restaurant itself is very large. The floors are tile and the rooms are huge. This makes a loud environment even louder as the volume of the primary game being watched is blasted across the restaurant. In turn, everyone talks louder, which makes the TV louder, which makes the people louder...well, you get the idea. Bottom line - if you want really good seafood on the Texas Gulf Coast, this is not the place. If you want decent seafood that has a Mexican flare while watching your favorite football team (both NFL and Soccer), this is the place for you. They plate the food in giant plates and the portions are small. The presentation is okay but the food is very mid. I had a shrimp ceviche tostada it was pretty solid. But the other food just wasn't up to par. I had bacon wrapped shrimp which again was good but the rice it came with was extremely sweet and the little salad on the side look wilted. I had high hopes for a Mexican seafood place but I was let down. The ambiance is nice the restaurant is big and nice but other than that I won't be coming back here. This is a Mexican seafood place and since I'm Hispanic, I should know! When you sit down, they will give you bread rolls and a dish of pickled carrots, onions and jalapeños. Don't be fooled. The carrots can be very spicy! Most dishes will be served with refried beans either black or pinto and rice fried or a white rice. I've been here several times the first time I had fried fish and I was not impressed as I don't like when you taste more of the fried batter than of the fish. But we decided to go back and I ordered the grilled fish and that's really good! My spouse likes the "pescado en Vapor" which means the fish has been steamed in aluminum foil with vegetables and shrimp. When they serve the fish packet, they open it in front of you. The bag makes me giggle because it looks like a one of those old jiffy pop bags that deflates when they cut into it. Spouse ordered it a couple of times and every once in a while the shrimp is overcooked and a bit chewy. But the fish is perfect. I have ordered the fish with a garlic sauce (ajo) and have ordered Pescado Azul. What was interesting is the first time I ordered the Pescado Azul, they asked me what kind of fish I wanted. I thought it only came with a specific fish, but you can change it for an up charge. I had it with the swordfish, and it was delicious. The second time I had it with whatever fish it came with (Basa) and it was equally good. The ambience can be for me at least a bit too loud. If it's someone's birthday, they blast some song on the speakers as the waitresses sing happy birthday. Lots of TVs on the walls and later at night they have a DJ playing music. They also had a trio of musicians, walking around playing music as well. I have to say it: pay special attention to the bill because one waitress charged us for a glass of water! Since she didn't mention that they charge for water and rather than go through the fiasco of having the bill redone, I just deducted the cost of the water from the waitress' tip. I made mention of this to the hostess and she told me they do not charge for water so it was fine what I had done. I'll definitely go back. read more
