Food was the best I've had in a long time!! Best apple pork chops ever. Can't wait to go back!

I came here for my birthday on a Saturday. We had a party of 9 and I made a reservation in advance because Saturday night just seems like a busy night to go eat anywhere... but I'm not sure my reservation was totally necessary. They had our table already prepared which was fantastic, but the restaurant was slow and not very busy. We could've just walked in and, other than having to wait for them to prepare our table, been seated right away. Our waitress, Moriah, was fantastic! She had tables on opposite sides of the restaurant, but since they weren't very busy it didn't seem to be an issue. There were a couple of times when we had to ask for drink refills, but it wasn't horrible. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was good, and I appreciate that they have some options that you wouldn't find just anywhere. That's the kind of thing I look for in a restaurant. However there were a few places where they fell short. 1. There was no kids menu. This may not be a big deal for a lot of people. It wasn't a big deal for me since my toddler eats pretty much anything, so we shared. It WAS however a big deal for my 6 year-old niece who does NOT eat anything. They told my sister that they could make some butter noodles or take the harissa off of a pizza and make it a smaller size for her. She opted for the butter noodles which were bland and unseasoned. Then they have no salt or pepper on the tables so she couldn't even season them until she asked for some. It helped, but they still weren't very good. 2. The food is overpriced. It's good food, but the prices were a little steep compared to the quality. My sister and I discussed this later and we both had the same thought. We didn't understand why they weren't busy because they had the potential to be, and it just felt like they maybe were trying TOO hard. I would go back, but this wouldn't be a regular choice for me. I'd be happy to go if someone chose this as an option, and I might even choose to go back for a date night or something. I like the atmosphere of the place as well as how open it felt... I don't love a crowded space. Another thing I loved was the Smoked Caramel Bread Pudding. I'm surprised I liked it so much because I don't typically love added smoke flavor, but this worked! Listen, I LOVE bread pudding. If there's ever bread pudding on the menu, I'm going to get it. This being my birthday dinner dessert was absolutely fine by me. The edges were a little caramelized and it was absolutely delicious and everyone who tried it agreed. Give this place a try, but just know that you may pay a little more than what it's worth. It's still tasty food though! Also... try the bread pudding! read more

We really enjoyed our visit to Slate Table + Bar on a Tuesday. We made a reservation on OpenTable just in case there was a wait. We were seated just before a large party showed up. We sat by the wine cellar/private dining room and were graciously served by Amanda. Our table ordered the goddess pasta (you can add shrimp or chicken) and the elote ravioli (as suggested by Amanda). After checking out pics of elote ravioli on yelp, I knew what I would order. I considered adding the grilled watermelon salad, I'll save that for next time! The elote ravioli's presentation was beautiful!! Check out the flowers and the garnishes in the pic. The flavors were a delightful mix of spice and richness (not too much of either IMO). Amanda made a great traditional margarita for my mom (sweet price at $10). Wine by glass and bottles are priced well. Dessert was interesting; we ordered the smoked bread pudding. It usually sells out quickly, so glad we got to try it. I am unsure if I would order that one again (especially bc I want to try the other ones), but it was really interesting and made me think of smoking foods differently. read more

Had reservations to sit at the bar was sat at a table. This was going to be a busy day im sure management was well aware of that however our waitress could not give us the service that we should have had due to her serving a large crowd. (Not her fault) The drinks were good. I had the Lobster & Grits. My food came out and wasn't as hot as it should've been. My drink was empty for too long, I Wasn't offered water and by the time I was able to ask for some I had already eaten about 3/4ths of my food. I don't enjoy giving negative reviews so I will probably give Slate another chance because I do see potential there, I'm just speaking on my experience. Stay tuned for an update. read more

Would definitely come back here. Went on a cute girls night with my friend, and we got there just in time for one round of happy hour. We both got the seasonal margarita, which was like a raspberry version of a house margarita, and it was so good. Not too sweet either, which was appreciated. Our waiter was super nice and patient because we were there chatting for at least 2.5 hrs. The food was 10/10 on quality. We got the steak stroganoff, and the steak was medium rare and cooked to perfection. The pasta was so rich and creamy, and even the little piece of bread on the side was soft and warm. The brick chicken dish was good, but the chicken skin could have been more crunchy and crispy rather than hard as the ends were a little tough to get through. However, the polenta was the highlight of that dish, and I could eat a bowl of just that with the sauce. I'll be back!! read more

We really enjoyed this fancier sit down spot in league city. The interior was very modern and it looked like a great spot for a date night or professional dinner. We ordered the Peri Peri chicken, lobster beignets, crispy Okra, and chicken fried rockfish with broccolini. The dishes were very flavorful with unique sauces and sides. We enjoyed the lobster beignet appetizer the most and it would be worth visiting just for this. We overall loved this spot and it serves as a nice change of pace from all of the chains and usual American spots in our area. read more

The portion sizes were small. I came for brunch, but the food tasted as though it had simply been reheated. The traditional breakfast included a waffle that seemed more like one of the packaged waffles sold at Starbucks--essentially a doughnut. Overall, it felt like eating brunch at an overpriced airport restaurant. read more

We went here on a Saturday night around 6. There was one large table, a group of people at the bar and an otherwise empty dining room. Hostess asked us if we had a reservation (no) and sat the 2 of us at a 4 top table. I ordered a lemon drop martini and my husband had a glass of wine. Mine was good but the glass was small for the price tag. We ordered the lobster beignets, but they were more like fritters. Being from New Orleans, this was not what I expected. My husband questioned if they even had lobster in them. My husband had the goddess pasta and I had the blackened redfish baguette. My fish was cooked nicely, although there was an odd white dust covering my plate, which I think was put there intentionally for presentation. My husband started eating and thought his pasta tasted weird due to the black dust all over the top. We asked the waiter what it was and they said it was charred lemon. (I think it was on the so-called lobster beignets too.) Why in the world you would basically burn lemon, turn it into black dust and put it all over garlicky pasta is beyond me. (He actually felt sick on the drive home and thought it might have been that or perhaps the shrimp he had with his pasta.) We did not stay for dessert, although we were not offered any to begin with. Three other tables were seated after us, but the restaurant still seemed very quiet for a Saturday night. On the way out, I noticed the privacy ropes outside the front door... you know the kind that they set up outside fancy restaurants to protect the movie stars from the paparazzi. Really not sure why these are there, other than to give the illusion of an exclusive restaurant. If I were to describe Slate in one word, it would be pretentious. The decor reminded me of the 1970s. The waitstaff was "mid" as the kids would say. The food was trying to be something it was not. So, if that is the kind of vibe you are looking for, then this is your place. Me? I don't care for pretentious for the sake of being pretentious, so I will be going elsewhere. (Still wondering if the chef has ever been to New Orleans and had a real beignet.....) read more

I only gave this place one star because you have to give one. I didn't take any pictures I was so annoyed. I got a lemon drop and it taste just like that a lemon. I could barely drink it down. My husband got an old fashioned and didn't even finish it. To eat I started with fried okra it has some orange sauce on it the sauce tastes like salad dressing the okra was over cooked and no flavor gross. For my meal I got red fish it was fried. I asked for sauce on the side and no cheese it came with both. They remade it the fish has absolutely no seasoning at all not even salt and pepper. The broccoli was so burnt it tasted like it was scrapped from the bottom of a charcoal grill. My advice would be fire your chef this is fine dinning and it came out within minutes of time ordering this is fast food. Very disappointing valentines weekend. read more

My husband and I just visited Slate Table + Bar for lunch, the place is beautiful, tastefully decorated. The menu is small but very interesting. We were in a bit of a rush, so this time we didn't order appetizers. The staff is very helpful and friendly, service was very quick. I ordered the fish tacos and my husband the hot honey chicken sandwich, both with potato chips. Both dishes were nicely plated, very appealing and inviting. The tacos were delicious, the blue tortilla definitely elevates this dish, the morita sauce made the fish stand out, and the blanco sauce brings everything together, the chips are fantastic, quite addictive, I must say. The sandwich was also really good, the bun is pillowy, delicious breaded chicken breast, the peri peri sauce is very flavorful, and the salt and vinegar crisp adds that interesting crunchy texture, overall great sandwich. We probably picked the most simple dishes, but we were impressed by how they combine flavors, textures, they keep it interesting. We'll definitely be back to try other items in their menu, great experience at Slate Table + Bar! read more

It was my first time trying this place and the only good thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere. We had a large party and everyone ordered a different entree and they all disliked their meal. I ordered peel and eat shrimp and it was extremely overcooked, only came with 4 shrimp and the skin was so glued onto it it was taking me over ten minutes to peel each one. They don't even cut a slit in the shell to ease the process. If everyone else's food at our table wasn't so bad, I would've sent it back. The other folks at our table ordered the elote ravioli, chicken salad, goddess pasta, and other dishes. The chicken was tough dry and flavorless, the elote ravioli tasted like someone dumped a canister of cayenne into it, and the pasta had so much pepper in it the lady was coughing throughout the entire dinner. It sucks because I feel like this place has potential but they need someone who knows how to season and prepare food properly. It seems like the food is fresh and not processed, it's just bad execution with unbalanced flavors. read more

Found Slate Table while driving from the airport to Galveston. I was a little worried when the place was a ghost town but service and the food were both excellent. I had a cold and didn't feel like drinking but the drinks looked good too. The bathroom was adorably decorated! I would stop in again when in the area! read more

We liked the person who served us very much but she was the only one making drinks and taking orders. The location is very cute. I was exited to try the food because I heard they do gluten free really well. Unfortunately there were only two items marked gluten free and the waitresses had to ask for clarification on other items. I was able to adjust the chicken sandwich without a bun for lunch with a side of polenta. The chicken was dry, cold and bland. The polenta was good though. The plate was decorated with a lemon salt of some sort, which I didn't care for. My husband ordered the Love salad as his lunch entree. It was very small. I wish they bulked it up by just adding more lettuce. I'd like to give this place another try but today want exactly what hat we had hoped for. read more

I'm part of a Bay Area foodie group and have seen a lot of recommendations about this place. I was eager to try out this restaurant. I walked in and knew I was going to love the place. The decor of the place was very cutesy and there was a DJ playing. The waitress let me know it was ladies' night and the specials that went along. I was excited when I heard the martinis were $5! That excitement quickly changed when the drinks were brought out. They were sooooo small! I think the size needs to mentioned at ordering, or possibly made into a cute martini flight with special pricing instead. The food was pretty good. I ordered the elote ravioli and it was interesting. I tried my friend's Goddess Pasta and the chicken was perfect, but the pasta was a little too spicy for me. Then on to dessert we went! The cookies and milk was delish. I'd come back! read more

This place just opened so I'm giving them grace but it wasn't super impressive to me. Service was very slow, but it seemed like they were understaffed. Their menu has some odd options (birria pizza?). Everyone thought their food was mediocre except me. I had the chicken fried redfish and it was actually really good. We all were kinda hungry after our meal. It seemed like everyone else got the charcuterie board so I think the thing to do here is grab apps and drinks. The drinks were all very decadent. The seats were really nice and plush. Order the shrimp for a fun surprise! read more

Man. I'm so disappointed. I've raved about this restaurant ever since it opened and have also given it 5 stars on yelp. Tonight was oddly disappointing. My husband and I came for dinner and drinks tonight. Upon walking in we waited over 10 min (at the bar) to be acknowledged. My husband and I joked that we felt like we were in trouble to order our drinks bc the bartenders were very rude and off putting. While waiting for our drinks we even saw one waitress leave a table and say "what the actual fuck" to a different waitress. Needless to say it ruined our vibe and we stayed for one drink. The drinks was great, just how I remembered, but unfortunately vibe and wait staff can really ruin your time. read more

Had my first visit to Slate Table + Bar today with friends! Our server, Lane, was super informative and helped us pick great menu options! I ordered the Chicken-Fried Red Fish per his recommendation and it was delicious! The broccolini was well seasoned and it came with two bits of fried cauliflower which were delectable. My husband got the steak stroganoff and he thought it was decent. The area is well lit and even though there were several separate groups, it was fairly quiet. Slate Table + Bar was the restaurant my friend chose to celebrate her 37th Birthday. Creston and Chris were awesome and made our dinning experience a memorable night! The drinks were good and those Garlic Knots were delicious. I forgot to ask but the marinara sauce tasted homemade and it was really good. The Fish Tacos had a good spicy flavor but needed more salt. The Lavenderita Margarita was different and something I'm looking forward to ordering again. The restaurant is not too big or too small. Nice ambiance which is perfect for dinning with friends, family or date nights. read more

Surprise! Surprise! What a little gem in League city. Brought the parents here for their 59th anniversary and we really enjoyed our experience here. Nice well appointed restaurant where the cocktails reign supreme! The bartenders here are amazing. The cocktails seem to be carefully selected and crafted. Even if you order off menu you will be blown away. After trying two different cocktails, I decided I just wanted a margarita and let me tell you it was one of the best I have ever had. We had reservations for 5 and we were seated immediately. Our server (she) was amazing, knowledgeable and very attentive. The menu will give you a little challenge because it's very imaginative cuisine. Things you may have never heard of. We started with the garlic knots (very good). Entrees ordered, 2 beef stroganoff, chicken fried redfish, 2 brick chicken. Everything thing was delicious. Presentation was great and the food was amazing. For desert we had the purple sweet potato cheese cake (mind blowing and soooooooo good. Also the salted Carmel cookies are so moist and yummy we bought some to go. Slate does not disappoint. Nice open atmosphere with the most friendly and attentive staff. Love going to a place where everyone looks happy and wants to be there. I will definitely be coming back. We just happened to pop by on our way home. And oh my gosh. Food was incredible ! We had the lobster beignets, blackened redfish baguette , and Bougie Burger. When I first heard about this nice restaurant opening in a mostly industrial area of League City I was perplexed simply given the location. One benefit though is that it's super close to home for me and I couldn't wait to give it a try! Upon entering, we were seated immediately and greeted by our waitress, who was very kind and helpful! She was very attentive throughout the entire meal and we were there for probably three hours. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very upscale looking! I had heard about this place was definitely true to form and then some. For drinks, we tried several! I don't think I captured pictures of all of them, but some of the ones we tried were the empress 75, espresso martini, raspberry margarita, and rum runner For appetizers, we ordered the charcuterie board (which I was surprised to find did not have much cheeses on it) and the fried cauliflower, which was absolutely delicious!! Out of everything the fried cauliflower was the stand out of the meal in my opinion! I wanted to order more of it lol For the entrée, we ordered the lobster beignets and the Elote ravioli, both of which were delightful !! The flavors are really amazing and everything was delicious Our server recommended the caramel crunch cookie and the orange dreamsicle alcoholic beverage for dessert - so we ordered both! That caramel crunch cookie is divine and I would definitely come back for that! All in all, this is a welcome upscale addition to the area and we will definitely return ! read more
