While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. ​The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. ​The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. ​I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. However there were a few places where they fell short. 1. There was no kids menu. This may not be a big deal for a lot of people. It wasn't a big deal for me since my toddler eats pretty much anything, so we shared. It WAS however a big deal for my 6 year-old niece who does NOT eat anything. They told my sister that they could make some butter noodles or take the harissa off of a pizza and make it a smaller size for her. She opted for the butter noodles which were bland and unseasoned. Then they have no salt or pepper on the tables so she couldn't even season them until she asked for some. It helped, but they still weren't very good. 2. The food is overpriced. It's good food, but the prices were a little steep compared to the quality. My sister and I discussed this later and we both had the same thought. We didn't understand why they weren't busy because they had the potential to be, and it just felt like they maybe were trying TOO hard. I would go back, but this wouldn't be a regular choice for me. I'd be happy to go if someone chose this as an option, and I might even choose to go back for a date night or something. I like the atmosphere of the place as well as how open it felt... I don't love a crowded space. Another thing I loved was the Smoked Caramel Bread Pudding. I'm surprised I liked it so much because I don't typically love added smoke flavor, but this worked! Listen, I LOVE bread pudding. If there's ever bread pudding on the menu, I'm going to get it. This being my birthday dinner dessert was absolutely fine by me. The edges were a little caramelized and it was absolutely delicious and everyone who tried it agreed. Give this place a try, but just know that you may pay a little more than what it's worth. My husband and I decided to share a small Greek salad, the Pasta Aglio and the Baklava cheese. The salad and pasta were both delicious, light yet filling and plenty for the two of us to share. The salad actually had SUPER green lettuce leaves, which was such a pleasant surprise. However, the Baklava cheesecake was pretty disappointing. It was a giant piece of plain cheesecake that had toppings on it from what seemed like a piece of baklava cake. Those toppings disappeared pretty quickly and that left us with a bunch of plain cheesecake. We were expecting the baklava flavors to be swirled into the cheesecake, which is why we found this to be disappointing. The service was pretty slow, which was surprising considering it was pretty empty as it was a Sunday night. Otherwise, it was a good experience and we would return if we ever happen to find ourselves in the area again.
