    Lump crab and shrimp tower
    Tiphany B.

Stopped in on rainy Saturday to give this local gem a return visit. Apparently, most people were avoiding the rain since the restaurant was pretty empty. We sat in the bar and found out that lunch specials extend thru Saturdays... including $0.99 cocktails. I tried a lemon drop from the special menu and my husband had an old-fashioned from the regular menu. Both were great... mine was a half size of the regular size but for the price, a second one made sense... so I obliged and it was just as good as the first. We tried the lump crab and shrimp appetizer and it was yummy. While not the full lump that I was expecting, it was still delicious. Hubby had a burger and I had the shrimp poboy. He loved his smash burger and my shrimp were fresh, huge, and beautifully cooked. Neither of us could finish our food. We plan to return for Thursday night fried chicken or Sunday brunch!

Kudos to Manager , Server Mark and Staff Shelley, Robert, Latreece and Caleb. I almost hate to post this review for fear the Sunday brunch will be overrun. Long story short. The Sunday brunch is to die for. The restaurant is gorgeous inside and reminded me of a Charleston SC style low country spot because of the chandeliers and gas lamps. The buffet has anything you could want and the staff all highlight the benefits of their dishes. Service was excellent with plates removed quickly and coffee refills on the spot. Tons of lovely touches including warm hand towels with lemon, beautiful restroom, the swings at the bar and live jazz. That's all I'm going to say...shhhh mums the word!

This is a solid spot for Cajun food in southeast Houston. I haven't had much reason to come down to Dickinson until Marais opened up within the past few years. I recommend making a reservation on OpenTable to guarantee a spot. If no inside seating is available, their patio is gorgeous and faces the bayou. While they also offer brunch a la carte, I especially like their Sunday brunch buffet, in which you can try a variety of their signatures for $40 per person. They offer mimosas for the table with a variety of juices for only $10 per champagne bottle - that is a steal! They even have a live Jazz band playing during Sunday brunch! Parking is usually not an issue in the back, as they also own the next-door establishment and allow you to park here as well. The buffet area is a little cramped, as they convert the near-bar area into the buffet on Sundays. I have found that the traffic movement seems illogical here: you have to walk all the way through the buffet line to where the line starts in the opposite direction. I wish they would reverse the flow here to make it one-way to reduce congestion. My favorites on the brunch buffet are the gumbo, fried catfish & grits, and mac and cheese. The roux in the gumbo is very flavorful. The catfish is always crispy with a good seasoning; if you need tartar sauce, ask your server and they will bring it out. I like the fried chicken as well, since the breading is super crispy, however it is seasoned way too salty. I almost had to take a gulp of water after each bite. I also wish their hashbrowns were dry-fried and crispy, however these come out wet and soft. They also have a Bananas Foster station, which can take a minute to come out. But finding Bananas Foster anywhere outside of NOLA is pretty rare, so I'm happy to see it offered here. I will say that they go heavy on the bread though (filler), so if anything I recommend trying it for just the bananas in the saucy glaze. Service here is always solid. Brunch time is always super busy, so it might take a minute to flag down your server, but all of the servers are usually friendly and willing to help each other out. We will definitely be back for brunch since this is a good option in the area. I always walk by the swing chairs at the bar on my way out, and have this place on my list to try for happy hour or drinks someday if I'm in the area!

    Elk chops

Went for dinner, Chris was our server, he was amazing! We started with the smoked red fish dip, mouth watering! Creamy, smoky, and delicious! Wish the portion was a bit bigger! We split the classic wedge salad, crips iceberg lettuce, blue cheese chunks, and avocado slices! Yes, please! Hubs had the elk chops! His first time having elk, he loved them! Medium rare is the best way to order elk! The blueberry compote was a nice touch, but the potato's that were served with it were way too salty. We should've said something, we didn't, that's on us and being that I had plenty of my meal, we shared my orzo! The elk chops were delicious but on the smaller side. They should add another chop or two. I had the special 5oz blackened filet topped with crawfish etoufee and Cajun orzo. My filet was cooked a perfect medium rare and my sides were not salty whatsoever!! When having a steak or chop, they bring a selection of steak knives to choose from which is a nice touch! This restaurant has a large dining area, a large bar, another bar area "a fancy sports bar" with horse saddles as seats along with swings at the bar! There is also a large area downstairs with a bar and lots of tables with a great view of the bayou! Great date spot or a great spot for the family!!

The place is very nice, the service were amazing always checking if we needed anything else. The food was amazing.

Amazing place to come and have dinner, the food was fabulous and the service was fantastic.

Shrimp and grits. This was wonderful, May I suggest adding the grilled garlic bread to it, with it!

Had wonderful brunch with friends. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Nice and relaxed.

Went here for my Sweet 16 and will be a very special memory for everyone. Rented the private room and Doug did more than just take care of us. He went above and beyond and was very helpful. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic and plated beautifully. We will be returning for more events in the future. Thank you Doug for the wonderful evening and fantastic food.

Wonderful place for a business dinner, brunch, or date night We had a great experience due to the patient and kind server. He was led us through the menu and made some good recommendations. We also really loved the ambience -- fine dining meets French quarter. There is an underground bar next to the bayou, outdoor dining, and another bar with swings immediately next to the main dining area. Also, there's a room that you rsvp for events and private dining! The food was delicious too. Here's the breakdown: *Chargrilled Trio - 4/5 due to being a little too salty *24 oz. Bone In Ribeye - 5/5 *Marais Crab Cake - 5/5 *Lobster Mac N Cheese - 4/5 *Brussels Sprouts - 0/5 we returned this one *Pasqua 11 Minutes Rosé - 5/5

Weiner Wednesday! Weiner Wednesday!!!…read more I just had to say that; it's too much fun! On Wednesdays, you can enjoy 50% off all schnitzel orders, and let me tell you, the schnitzel is excellent--both the pork and chicken options are fantastic. The beer is cold, and there's a vast selection to choose from. Now, let's address a controversial topic: some of you don't eat sauerkraut--heathens, I say! King's has the best sauerkraut in Harris and Galveston counties, bar none. Yes, it's a bit out of the way, but the atmosphere is lively, and the food portions are relatively large. It can get a little rowdy, though it's a fun kind of rowdiness. If you're more of a wet blanket, this might not be the place for you. If you enjoy camaraderie and good food, this is the spot for you! Weiner Wednesday (lol)!

This evening I was in the mood. In the mood for a Reuben sandwich. If you don't know what that is,…read moreI'm not sure we can really be friends. But since I'm a likeable sort of guy, I'll explain. A Reuben is simple: corned beef, sauerkraut, toasted bread (usually marbled rye), a bit of Russian or Thousand Island dressing, and Swiss cheese. Toast it up nice and warm--basically like a grilled cheese that went to college and got a respectable job. Over the years I've had stellar versions. I've had mediocre ones. I've had them burnt, soggy, and even a few where I had to remove half the meat because the sandwich had been stacked like a small geological formation. A proper Reuben is about the stack. The corned beef should be impressive--something you look at and think, "Yes... this sandwich understands the assignment." So tonight I thought: a German place should have good kraut. Surely they'd have a good Reuben. I ordered online and requested that they toast the bread, meat, and cheese but put the kraut and sauce on the side. Anyone who's ordered a hot sandwich for delivery knows that kraut inside a sealed container quickly turns bread into something resembling damp cardboard. The good news: they followed the request. The sauce and kraut were indeed on the side. And that's about where "what they got right" ended. The sandwich was, to put it kindly, wimpy. It came on a few very small slices of what appeared to be marbled rye... or perhaps bread that aspired to resemble marbled rye. The flavor certainly didn't suggest rye. As for being toasted, perhaps they briefly waved it near a heat source just long enough to dry the bread out slightly, as though it had been left on the counter for a few hours. I assembled it myself and gave it a fair shot. The corned beef did, in fact, pass as corned beef. The kraut was acceptable. But even a DIY reconstruction couldn't save the long list of small things that could have made this a proper Reuben instead of what felt like an appetizer-sized sandwich. Now, I do have to mention the large pretzel with mustard and beer cheese from the appetizer menu. The pretzel had a decent bite to it, but it wasn't quite warm. In fact, it had the distinct personality of something that may have spent just slightly less time in the microwave than it should have. Not cold exactly, but not the warm, chewy, certainly not the freshly baked experience one hopes for from a German biergarten. The beer cheese actually stood on its own--though you do have to pay extra for the tiny cup. The pretzel itself, however... I hate to say it, but sprinkle a little sugar on it and you've basically got a funnel cake. I'd say "you're not fooling anyone," but apparently you are. My suspicion--though I could be wrong--is that the establishment caters more to people who want to drink beer while examining the structural engineering of push-up corsets and lederhosen. This $15 sandwich belongs in a gas station cooler in a plastic clamshell for $5.99, not at a place identifying itself as a German biergarten. I'll give one star for the delivery driver and one star for correctly following the deconstruction request. But that's about all I can do. I've seen some good reviews for King's BierHaus at this location, so I would hate to think--though I can't entirely dismiss the possibility--that delivery orders might receive a little less care than dine-in meals.
