Ok, so this is my maybe 5th time going here. Don't get me wrong, but the food is just ok. I love seafood but I just was not really impressed with what I ate. I got the fried shrimp and oysters with the dirty rice. The seafood was good but the rice was not. My daughter got the chicken Caesar Salad and they forgot to put the dressing on it. The pasta my son got he said it was ok. My other son got the Lobster Cargo ( not pictured) it was good.he also got the Rockefeller Oyster( not pictured) they were good and he ordered a steak. We dined here yesterday. I'm sorry but I was not impressed. Maybe we came on a bad day. I ordered the fried shrimp, which was too salty, and the crab cake, which was flavorless. Seriously, how do you mess up crab cake? I had gumbo, which was just ok. The ambiance was nice, but that's about it. Food was Great. Service was good. Restaurant was extremely loud, so loud as to make for a miserable dining experience. When the place is only at 1/3 to 1/2 capacity there is no reason to bunch all the tables together in the middle of the restaurant. A good host "reads" the guests as they come in and knows how to separate tables. You don't seat elderly patrons looking to have quiet conversation next to an extremely loud party of ten. read more

We had a great time at Marais! The bar was really cute with swings, and Scott, our bartender, was incredibly friendly and helpful. For dinner, we got the crab and shrimp tower, a nice gumbo, short rib ravioli, and grits mes Amis. Wine, Pimms cup, and Fleur de Lis were hits. Amazing HRW 3-course dinner! (Best hidden gem of Dickinson) My family and I visited for my parents anniversary and had a wonderful experience! After arriving for our reserved time of 5 PM, we were guided to a table that was beautifully decorated with rose petals. Our family shared the seafood tower as a starter. It was fresh and the crab was delicious! I had the crawfish wedge salad, the boudin stuffed chicken, and the beignets and coffee. The crawfish wedge was a nice size and I loved the addition of the fried crawfish. The chicken was very flavorful and the dirty rice had a nice kick to it! The beignets were wonderful served warm and the coffee was comforting and strong! I also tried my mom's blackberry caipirinha - it was well made and packed a punch! First impressions are most important. Went to this restaurant at about 9:50 p.m. and was greeted by a bartender, Donovan, who seemed inconvenienced that I was there. I asked for a menu and he promptly told me that the kitchen closes at 10:00. I asked him if it was closed and he went to check and came back and handed me a menu. I ordered the raw oysters, redfish, and a dirty martini. Received 12 oysters and was charged for a dozen. The redfish was overcooked, and I guess the chef forgot to add the lump crab and sauce. Great place that we go to as often as we can. Should be a 5 star as every time we've been here. Was here for the Duckhorn wine dinner and the owner was very gracious to us during the meal. The duck gumbo was horribly oversalted but still gave 5 stars on food as this course was an unexpected complimentary add that was not on the prix fixe menu. The seared duck and wild rice was exquisite. Why less than perfect service? Everything was wonderful until we were presented the check for the bottle of wine we were purchasing for take out. The sommelier was childish and unprofessional. When we objected to an automatic 20% tip on a bottle of wine we were taking home; without apology (perhaps it is policy) or a single word, he snatched the bottle off the table and stormed off. read more

They offer an À la carte menu that has the usual fare as well some with a special twist (such as pancakes with Banana Foster topping). If you prefer they offer a buffet with a large variety of choices; there was chicken and waffles, prime rib, shrimp, Mac & Chez, meats, cheeses, pastry, and so much more. Sayri, my waitress, was more than attentive & accommodating - truly an incredible server. At some point, every type employee - server, to bartender, to manager - came by at some point to ask me how I was doing. I really appreciate small & important things like that. Loved the ambiance of this place, we sat at the bar because we did not have a reservation and it was packed but the service was great. Food was just ok, nothing spectacular but they have $10 bottle mimosas, you can't beat that and the food is cheap. Ambiance A+ and there was live jazz when we went. I had the French toast, it was good. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles and it was a little bland. I was able to orders grasshopper martini. My husband selected this for his Father's Day dinner. This has become one of our favorite restaurants in the area. The décor is beautiful, with high ceilings & clusters of chandelier. They have a beautiful outdoor area along the water. Then the menu had many great options. We started with the Lump Crab & Shrimp Tower. It comes with fresh wonton chips to eat the tower. It was amazing, you must get this. We also ordered Steak (me) & Redfish (my husband). Both were delicious. From there we had to add deserts, Crème Brulé & Pecan Tart. We completely over ordered and took a lot home, but I don't know what we would have passed on. I just discovered Marais Dickinson durin Houston Restaurant Week 2022. I was absolutely blown away by the decor, ambiance and most importantly the cuisine and service. I was sure I wanted to go back. My husband was turning 60 a few months later and I decided that's where I would love to host his dinner party. First of all, I called and left a message and UNBELIEVABLY, received a call back from the Manager Doug within 2hours...(ok, that's impressive). Doug took my information, gave me some information, and the date was set. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that Doug is all that and MORE, in a restaurant manager. He absolutely followed up and followed through. We had a wonderful and very successful evening due mostly in part to Doug and his staff, Chris and Kayla. Every query I had was responded to and answered immediately. Everyone was so courteous and the most efficient staff. then of course there the food which was excellent. I ordered the petite filet mignon & lobster tail, with a wedge salad. Deelicious! I went here for my birthday back in October, I think it's a really great atmosphere of a place! Very welcoming. I attended the brunch buffet, which is $40, much food! I think it was a variety but very pricey if you have a party more than 10 which was $75 to reserve. The area was not friendly to add all of my party as the chairs were super close. I'll advise next time to sit somewhere differently. Their waitress are super friendly! I felt very cared for. I would try their brunch food, lunch or dinner. You will enjoy this place! All around excellent. We came in for brunch right after leaving Galveston heading back to Austin. The brunch was delicious (we ordered a la carte off the menu but would do the buffet next time since it was all so good) and the service was amazing. My husband ordered chicken and waffles - A+ Son ordered eggs Benedict with a crab cake on the side as well as fried oysters on the side. The crab cake was big and full of crab. He ate every bite (he's 7) Our 4 year old ordered the kids eggs, bacon and we added pancakes for $2. It was all perfectly prepared. I eat Keto and ordered the shrimp and grits but instead of grits they gave me a delicious bed of sautéed spinach in a creamy heavenly sauce. I wanted to lick the bowl. Marais (pronounce ma-ray) is the French word for swamp. If you are familiar with Dickinson, TX, then the name makes sense. Marais is divided into three parts: A downstairs bar/eating area (that can also be rented for private events and parties), a bar area upstairs (with the swings that you see in people's photos) and the upstairs dining area (also with a full bar area). We have been to a private party in the downstairs area but this review will focus on the upstairs restaurant area of Marais. We wanted to try this restaurant for our 29th wedding anniversary. We called on Thursday and were able to get a reservation for Friday evening at 7PM. The person on the phone said I probably did not need a reservation for that specific Friday as it did not look like they were going to be overly busy. I made them anyway and requested a nice corner table away from the bar area that was a little more quiet. They did comply and we got a table in an area that we requested. The food at Marais was very good. We started with crab cakes. My wife and I are in agreement that they are the best crab cakes we have ever had. They were not the traditional cake that everyone makes. They were not breaded and fried like most restaurants make them. They were freshly prepared crab meat that was made into a patty but not fried. They came with fried green tomatoes. The combination of the two made this a very good dish and a much different presentation over the traditional crab cake. We then shared a Holly Strawberry Salad. They split the salad onto two different plates and presented them to us separately. It was a really good salad. The strawberry dressing was fresh and light. It came with thinly sliced red onion too. She likes them but I don't. Thankfully, I was able to pick mine off. The flavor of the onion did not linger on the salad so overall, I really liked it. For our main course, she had the Shrimp and Grits and I had the Wild Salmon with potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both dishes were wonderful and light. The Salmon was cooked medium rare and tasted wonderful. It wasn't heavy and did not have a heavy fish flavor. Really good. The shrimp and grits were also very good. I stole a bite of hers. I'm normally not a huge fan of grits but these were really good. We were going to pass on dessert but since they knew it was our 29th anniversary, they surprised us with two glasses of post dinner champagne and a free dessert. We chose the pecan chocolate pie. Very sweet but good. Our waiter was Jess. We were very pleased with the amount of service he provided. He was there when we needed him but not there when we didn't. He did a very good job of timing his visits to our table to ensure we were well taken care of. My one and only complaint is there seems to be a large number of higher tables. Personally, I like sitting with my feet on the floor and not on the supports of a stool. This is especially true in a fine dining situation. It was extra difficult this evening as I was wearing a walking boot on my right foot and I had difficulty getting on and off the stool as well as keeping my foot on the supports. The area we were in was 100% higher tables and stools. Lower tables would have also fit perfectly in the same area so I am not sure of the overall purpose. This is a personal preference but is the reason why I only gave them four stars. Bottom line - Delicious food and excellent service. Marais is definitely on the higher end when it comes to the quality of food and service you receive. More tables and chairs that are lower in overall height would be preferred for a fine-dining experience. read more

We didn't make dinner reservations but didn't wait a long time for a table either. You can also choose to sit at the bar in the main dining area or the the more casual side with the bayou view. I ordered the Cajun wedge salad, New York strip steak and blackberry cobbler from the HRW menu and the husband ordered the Alfredeaux in the dark ( blackened chicken and shrimp with pasta Alfredo) I had the Batini- forgot what's all in it aside from the vodka lol but it was refreshingly great and strong. Our server Desiree was super sweet and our food was delicious! Steak was perfectly seasoned- blackened and marinated in bourbon and cooked to the temp I asked for, garlic & truffle mashed potatoes it came with was flavorful, Cajun wedge- I was confused why it was called a Cajun wedge salad then I saw the crawfish tails on the plate lol! The blackberry cobbler with housemade vanilla ice cream was delicious! It reminded me of an Ube dessert from back home. Kinda sad it's only available during HRW. The alfredeaux in the dark was super good, huge portions of gemeli pasta in housemade alfredo sauce, juicy tomatoes, applewood bacon, blackened chicken breast and huge gulf coast shrimp.
