OMG This place was amazing. We were in town for baseball at Alvin but for sure was worth the drive. We haven't had food of this authentic quality since living in NOLA. We had grilled oysters before the meal. I ordered the shrimp and grits and wife had the salmon. I just wish it wasn't so far from home. Exceeded all expectations! To give a short summary, Saturday was my wedding day. I wasn't wanting anything extreme after the ceremony, just a nice dinner to celebrate w a few family and friends. I communicated with the manager at Marais, Douglas, and he assured me I needed to have the private room given it's our wedding day! He made me feel special and he assured me this was a special day that needed to be celebrated as such. He was so gracious, accommodating, and just a kind person overall. He made my family & friends feel welcomed, and provided exceptional service. I feel so thankful for Douglas and the Marais team for making my day feel more than I ever anticipated it would be. My daughter & her Fiancé took me & my husband here for dinner! The ambiance is wonderful & the staff is amazing. We started out with charbroiled oysters & crab cakes & green fried tomatoes & candied pork / bacon bites. Lemon drop Martinis. Yummy! I had the Marais Filet with crab meat on top & the broccolini. Been here a few times and the food is ok. Steak was very expensive and was tough. Was standing in the aisle trying to get a drink and some poorly dressed employee asked me to move because I was in the aisle. Gave him the stink eye and kept doing what I was doing. Also, downstairs at the plank bar there must be 10 employees working yet I have to ask for a refill on my beer and for salt, napkins and utensils. One restroom out side and half the time there is an employee in it. Why do I have to pay a $120 tab and wait on an employee to poop? Do better please. read more

The food is pretty good, the service is amazing, and the restaurant is clean with nice decor. I wanted to like the drinks, but when I went to brunch there awhile back, they were using a mimosa mix and it just didn't taste that great. That's the only downside. read more

We have read several good reviews for this Dickinson, TX restaurant (about 30 minutes from our home), and decided to give Marais a try last Sunday for brunch - Man, what a great decision. I have included a picture of their brunch menu - I hope it can be read by enlarging the image. The $32 buffet is not something we can afford to do every Sunday, but it IS amazing and we really enjoyed everything we sampled. I say "sampled" because I do not believe many people could eat EVERYTHING they offer on the buffet - it is huge! I really enjoyed the omelette station that offered fresh cooked eggs, omelettes, and amazing french toast. Their bacon, sausage, hash browns, delicious Prime Rib, biscuits and gravy made me want to cry UNCLE early on in this fight to the finish, but I persevered. I paced myself, did not finish every scrap of the food I put on my platter sized plate, and proceeded on to lunch in the same sitting - don't judge! After a bit of a break, I reloaded my platter with fried fish, mac and cheese, potato salad, crab, and boiled shrimp. Ok, I admit I was sweating a little bit (and a bit dizzy) as I approached the dessert table, but the little squares of cake they had to offer finally made sense to me - I'm ashamed to admit I tried 4 different tiny cakes - dang, they were all so good I wanted more. Definitely recommend - will be back and try their dinner menu on a date night together. read more

The food is absolutely incredible. All of our selections were fantastic. Drinks were all delicious and the wine selection is impressive and the wine display is stunning. Appetizers were wonderful and desserts were to die for. The staff were on point and very attentive. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and there is nothing short to look at and admire all around. You can tell the owner has put a lot of thought into the decor and ambience and takes great pride in his restaurant, the food and its concept. This will now be a regular spot for us! read more

We chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary here, which we mentioned when we made the reservation. We ordered the Lump Crab and Shrimp Tower as an appetizer--not good. Not only was there no "lump" in the small amount of dry, finely minced crab, there was zero cilantro lime sauce nor Usagi sauce. Very dry! Our entrees were equally disappointing: small, tired scallops (NOT u10 scallops); almost zero grits and just seafood "bits" in the Cajun Grits Mes Amis. The dish was a big bowl of sauce--had to ask for a spoon. We would've ordered a dessert, but we were being rushed out so they could get set for the next day, even though there were other tables still dining at 7:45pm. In short: spent too much money on mediocre food and frigid hospitality. read more

I just arrived home from Marais'. There were 11 of us, and while some of our party opted for the buffet, I got the oysters Benedict. The oysters were the size of my thumbnail, the poached eggs were cooked all the way solid, and the English muffin was barely toasted. My husband got the crab cake Benedict. His crab cake was mostly breading, and his eggs were almost completely cooked. Same muffin issue. When our parties' food came out, it was left on the big serving trays of in the corner for approx. seven minutes. What??? And then, of course, everyone's food was ice cold. We won't be back. We live in Dickinson and would like to support local, but we could've gotten a much better meal elsewhere. Sigh. read more

Great service. My dish was very salty to the point I really couldn't finish it, but I am chalking that up to a one time over salting by the chef. I've had many otherwise perfect meals here. I'd say steaks is what they do best, so despite venturing i to other dishes I will stick with the filet from now on. read more

Oh my!!! Nope! It used to be a great place but now it gives anxiety. 1- we were in the bar area (swings) when another customer asked Michele to please change TV channel. Michele (bar associate) asked all of us if that was okay (like 6 of us) and we all were fine. 2 min later manager came and called Michele's attention in a rude manner in front of everyone saying they "should" have 2 different sports in the TV's which makes me think it's about the business and not about having a costumer happy. Plus the fact this manager who I didn't even ask his name was rude!! If bartender didn't say anything I guess is because they all have to just deal with him (sadly). Mr. If a customer wants to watch X or Y game...let them!!! We will eat and drink more therefore more $ for the business! Costumer wasn't asking for porn nor anything but to watch a sports game! 2- 10 min haven't pass when this same manager tells the young guy behind the bar to "stop right there and leave". The young guy asked "can i finish talking the trash out?" Manager nodded only of course all these events distracted me from my dish as the tone and stress could be felt. Someone need to learn to say please and thank you. 3- Manager looked at me trying to smile ...he sure does remember my face. I can't smile back Sir!! You're disrespectful to your coworkers!!! Mother's Day brunch was fantastic from the eggs, to meat carving table, boiled shrimp and seafood, to the banana fosters French toast!

Came for brunch and ordered off of the menu rather than the buffet (I just don't eat that much.) The oysters eggs Benedict was average. I have been to the French Quarter numerous times and my favorite breakfast item from my favorite breakfast restaurant is oysters eggs benny and this one didn't really come close - bland and nothing special (they could have customized with homemade biscuits rather than a standard English muffin.) service was slow (I didn't have a reservation so sat on the patio) and there was no salt and pepper on the table - something my dish could have really benefited rom. They also didn't have beignets or fried green tomatoes....difficult to call yourself a representation of that area without those two things. Overall for brunch: Disappointing. read more

I wonder if the place my husband and I visited on Friday night is the same place experienced by a majority of other reviewers... I had been wanting to visit Marais for a long time, and HRW was an excellent excuse to make the drive to Dickinson. When we arrived, we were unsure where to park, as the parking lot is actually behind a bbq restaurant. We then decided to check in inside, instead of going through the patio. The hostess was wearing her mask under her nose. Obviously, many establishments have chosen to allow their staff to forego their masks and I knew we had driven to an area where masks have never been enforced, but what is the actual point of wearing it incorrectly? She asked if we had a reservation, which we did not, so she left and came back to let us know she could show us to our table. When we got to the table, I asked if it was possible to order from the HRW menu on the patio (if seats were available). She escorted us back to the front, where she left us to inquire if that was possible. How does she not already know? Once we were told we could order from the HRW menu outside, we proceeded to the patio, where we were not greeted by any of the three servers standing at the entryway. We decided to make our way to a table of our choice, where again countless servers passed us without acknowledging our presence. Moreover, the female waitstaff were all in booty shorts! How does this establishment consider itself fine dining?! We finally received two iced waters, but still no acknowledgement. Another female server finally brought us menus and asked if she could get us anything. Since we didn't receive a drink menu, I decided to go with an old standby. My husband and I both placed our three-course orders without problem. I ordered the shrimp and tasso, which was forgettable, and the peach burrata was overpowered by the garlic toast it was served with. My husband did really enjoy his frenched chicken, but the porkchop was something I could have done at home. The corn succotash was also good, but not worth the money. Then the drama began. My husband ordered the chocolate creme for dessert, whereas I asked for the blackberry cobbler. The server came over to us after the second course to let us know that the chocolate creme is the only dessert they still have. When I tell her I cannot eat chocolate, she indicates she will have to ask if something else can be done. She returns to tell me that no, it cannot. So, I tell her that I would like a reduced bill, since I won't be receiving a third course. That was the last time we interacted with our server. When the manager arrived to discuss, he was very friendly and somehow had miraculously discovered that the kitchen could provide a bread pudding for me. I said that was acceptable. A few minutes later, he returns to the table to let us know that the chocolate creme is now also unavailable. After I respond that my husband doesn't like bread pudding, he indicates he'll bring me mine. I was obviously snappy by this point, so I told him we weren't interested in eating dessert and would be going somewhere else to eat dessert TOGETHER. When we received the check, we made a huge mistake. We both thought the reduced bill adequately covered our experience. However, after paying, we realized, we were only comped about $20 of the total bill, which in my opinion isn't sufficient. We made the hard decision to not leave a tip at all. Yes, this is horrific for the server, but what needs to happen is the manager needs to take care of it with her, not us. Definitely not worth $49!!!! Obviously, with so many outstanding restaurants in Houston, I would never drive 40 minutes to Dickinson to eat again. read more

The wait staff were great (except for the hostess that just stared at my wife in a wheelchair trying to open the door. I let her have it for being lazy) nice food selection. Chose Marais to celebrate my daughter's 25th birthday. The setting, service, cocktails and meal were all wonderful! Although it was a busy Saturday night we were allowed to linger over pre-dinner cocktails and appetizers, before ordering our main courses. I never knew this place existed in Dickinson. If you are looking for a date night, girls night or even just a night out, this is a place to try. We began at the bar upstairs and sat on the swings. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive. For an appetizer we ordered the egg rolls. They were delish and filling. Next, we went into the formal dining room for dinner. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The seasoning was good and the portion sizes are large. As we were leaving one of the staff members informed us that we had not tried the bar downstairs. As he escorted us downstairs, I noticed the view of the creek in-front of us was lit up from the building. The ambience was beautiful. Very beautiful restaurant in the heart of all places... Dickinson Texas? Yes! I know right! Thursday night and it was hoping! Go at least have a drink on the swings in the bar... very unique. Inside 5 star service, amazing drinks, very well put together. It's about $100 a person... well worth it for a treat. 16 oz Ribeye was perfect to my asking. Blackened rare, and it was great flavor. Sliders... best thing all night. Crab cakes, something personally didn't like. The guys ate it like their last meal. Veggie... bit too much garlic for my tastes but agreeable to my party. Jalapeño smashed potatoes, was not to my taste, bit watery. Sweet potatoes were off the chart amazing. Bread... fresh, great texture. Staff extremely attentive, best I have had in area.
