Because this meal really hit the spot. --- --- --- I've had Athena's bookmarked for a while now, as my parents live in Friendswood, and thought this would be a great place to try when visiting them. The stars finally aligned and I was able to meet them here recently. My mom wanted to order some dolomades to start off, and I'm not really a big fan, so I just figured those would be all her. But she offered to let me try one, and I can easily say that these were the best dolomades I've ever had. She agreed. I have no idea what they do to make these not taste so "sharp" like they usually do, but these were really unbelievable. For my appetizer, and I went with a beef/lamb gyro and it was everything you want in a gyro. Soft pita bread, non-gamey meat and everything in between. The greek salad that came with it was pretty underwhelming, but I ordered a side of greek fries too, and those were what I was hoping they'd be. We finished off by ordering a few desserts to share. I went with the strawberry cheesecake as the one I was mostly focused on, and loved it. This is definitely not a frozen cheesecake - they make them in-house and it's obvious when you take your first bite. I chose Athena's for my birthday meal and it did not disappoint! Always a great choice. We got the gyro plate, a chicken kabob plate and vegetarian plate as an appetizer. This is a little hidden gem!! EVERYTHING we had was superbly delicious! We stopped in here while visiting the Kemah/Seabrook area because we have been in search for an authentic Greek gyro for a long time. This was spot on, EXACTLY what we were looking for. We started off with grape leaves and the octopus app. Grapes leaves were phenomenal, seasoned perfectly and the octopus was cooked just right, tender and seasoned well too. I had the Greek lemon potatoes with my gyro, yum!! We were so stuffed but of course HAD to try dessert, so we enjoyed some ouzo and waited (the well worth it 15mins) for the bougatza (custard pastry) it was so amazing! We really enjoyed our meal and dessert, even took some rice pudding to go . We got a chance to speak with the owner, a lovely woman originally from our home town. I definitely recommend this place, food and service were great, our waitress was wonderful, it's a very nicely decorated establishment giving great ambiance. This review is for the breakfast at Athena's Corner. The winning dish was the spanakopita mixed with eggs, served with a side of potatoes. We also had an omelet with gyro meat, which probably should have had a few tomatoes mixed-in to add some juiciness. The former dish was excellent, the latter quite good. The service was friendly, although I got the sense that our poor waitress could have used another hour or two of sleep. She perked-up by the time we were finishing our meal. When you leave Athena's you leave with your belly full and a smile on your face knowing you had a great authentic meal! We tried the lamb chops and the slow cooked lamb AND moussaka because I just couldn't leave without trying it. Ms. Brandy let us know it was a big portion and she was right! Maria went out of her way to clear a back table and stopped doing what she was doing to make us comfortable; that was VERY much appreciatedl Having said that, The beef on the Ka-bob was way over cooked and very tough to cut and chew [it was too well-done, cooked]; it was not 'medium'. This place does Greek the way Greek should be done. Not only was the food perfect, but the ambiance and service was spot on. I enjoyed everything I tasted, but be warned the Athena's Veggie Chips (crispy zucchini & eggplant chips served with tzatsiki) are addictive. Try not to eat them all before your food comes, you WILL want room for your meal. My daughter and I shared them along with the 3 Dip Sampler (Tzatsiki, Hummus and Tirokafteri served with pita). The Tzatski tasted so good, it was hard to not eat it all (I love the stuff). This was a lot of food, and it was just the appetizer, so we had plenty to take home with us. I had the Gyro Plate (Slices of lamb & beef with Greek salad, served with pita bread) and she had the special of the day, unfortunately I forgot the name of her dish. Nevertheless, my daughter said the chicken was amazing and some of the best she had ever had. We both loved it so much, we went back for more the next day, because she claimed her sister needed to try it too. I just finished eating dinner at Athena's Kitchen. Words cannot completely describe how amazing everything was. Garrett greeted me at the door, took great care of everything, recommended everything and he wasn't wrong. I started with the Avgelomono soup. Outstanding!!!! Try them. 40 mins since we got here and ordered. No food not even appetizers. It's hummus and pita. 7 mins tops. Not 40+ mins. I have water and limes. So that's something. Lime is an appetite suppressant so maybe that helps? This better be Michelin Star cuisine about to hit the table.... Stay tuned. Bumped to 4 Stars after meal arrived. Hummus was initially forgotten and still strange as that's such an easy app to quickly provide. Once the manager (Daughter Diana) realized, it was quickly fixed and comped. Already forgiven. Meal: gyro Greek salad, falafel sandwich, Greek olives, hummus appetizer Very generous gyro meat. Still crisp outside with soft, savory meat. Loved it. Restaurant was only 70% filled so shouldn't have been that neglected. Maybe need to add to kitchen staff and remind waitstaff to be more aware/active. But srsly try Athena's Corner. Love this place!! Great ambiance, delicious food! Service is very friendly - we just came in the other day at 8:50pm, 10 mins before closing and graciously invited us in. They have plenty of selection on their drink menu and feature some nice specials during the week. My favorite plate is the gyro platter. Also highly recommend their lemon wedge potato's. This place is likely the best Mediterranean restaurant in the greater Clear Lake area, at least in my experience. My wife and I have been here a couple of times. The atmosphere leans a bit informally upscale -- this is not a buffet place. Staff are friendly and helpful. We've had the lamb and beef pitas and plates, all of which were quite good. There's much more on the menu to try, and we'll get around to that someday. They have more dessert options here than usually the case, and they make them here. Such a delicious brunch!! We got the saganaki grilled halloumi appetizer with honey and lemon and that was so good! For entrees we split the chickpea salad, which had tons of fresh veggies and lemon and a delicious olive oil, and the gyro and feta omelet. For dessert we had the revani, which was an orange almond, olive oil cake with vanilla ice cream and marmalade, that we loved and we enjoyed this with 2 frappes which were strong and frothy and perfect with the cake.
