You need to be in a Galveston frame of mind (at least a little inebriated, close your eyes to local corruption, cross fingers that local inspector actually enforced the codes), in order to enjoy these establishments. The best down home diner-style breakfast, brunch, and lunch place in the area with decent portions and decent prices. The shrimp poboy and fries came out piping hot. The shrimp poboy came with a tangy aioli instead of tartar sauce. The biscuits are larger than the size of your fist and perfectly fluffy and browned at the same time. The onion rings are also ginormous. They don't have sweet tea, you order the iced tea and add sugar yourself. The only really downside is they're not open for supper. read more

Dropped in to Skippers Cafe for a quick breakfast. Ambiance super laid back, nice flow of people coming in/out...didn't wait long at all sat ourselves down when we arrived. We ordered some mimosas, coffee, tea...all very good. For breakfast/lunch we ordered the mushroom omelette. It was very good, lots of mushrooms and I added cheese. Ordered home fries and toast. Really good breakfast. My son had the hamburger patty and eggs, ordered his with grits...wasn't sure what to expect but he really enjoyed his dish. Dad orders the BLT and fries. Bacon was crispy, veggies were fresh. Fries were tasty. Also ordered the western omelette, home fries and biscuit...wasn't sure very good. Think they forgot the cheese in this one but gave us a side of salsa and we were good! Biscuit was big and fluffy...so much food though. Service was great, everyone was very friendly and hospitable. Also saw some of the staff sitting down and enjoying meals themselves...always a good sign to see employees eating at their own establishment enjoying their food. I am so sad I didn't get any pictures, but just gives us a reason to visit again! We will definitely be in soon to try some other tasty dishes when we are in the area. read more

Take out orders are not their favorite. I order 2 lunches . it should've came with the choice baked potatoes or mashed potatoes. Plus a salad.. They didn't ask which one I wanted and no salad included.. they just hung up. I think the mashed potatoes were instant it had no flavor.. The worst service and dull food ever. Never going back. I went here breakfast the other day. Ordered the Cakes, Eggs n Meat option. Eggs were over-easy-Check. Slice of ham-Check. Pancakes-had a doughy and soft cosistency that soaked up syrup and made it dissappear into nothingness. It ended up dry almost even after adding more and more syrup. Good coffee and service. Breakfast this morning, I'm in Texas so I keep ordering chicken fried steak, and I continue to be underwhelmed with the gravy. Honestly, making a simple white gravy from scratch isn't that difficult, but unfortunately this place seems to be among the many that use canned gravy, or if not, undercooked rue. The gravy was bland, and floury.. which makes everything else bland. Eggs and hash browns were good, service was great, Allie took good care of us, even offered a fresh drink to go. The omelettes are pretty burnt - $12 without any cheese on the inside feels like I'm being overcharged. Good sized servings - 2 people could split one omelette plate easily. Not only is the food bland and under seasoned, but these people basically have a Trump shrine in their restaurant. I got biscuits and sausage gravy which I had to pour salt, pepper, and hot sauce all over just to make edible. Idk how you manage to mess up pancakes but even they had little to no flavor. And to top it all off they have Trump dollars taped to the wall, bottles of Trump wine, and Let's go Brandon crap all behind the cash register. Skipper's is a reliable breakfast place in my community. It's endured several major storms and floods (and renovations) since my family moved to League City in the early 90s. It's a solid, solid local restaurant. I had a long lunch break from work, so I met my husband there on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was busy, but they still had tables open. I ordered the chicken-fried steak and eggs, and my husband got pancakes and bacon. The food came out quickly and it tasted good. The bacon they use is a thick cut, so your mileage may vary on that. The chicken-fried steak is very similar to Denny's. Again, the food isn't fancy, but it's solid. read more

First off I ordered a Diet Coke and they only had Pepsi, so I said iced tea and all they had was unsweetened. So I said just a water is fine. I ordered off the breakfast menu, a cheese omelette with home fries and toast. Cheese omelette had like velvetta cheese that was not melted and consistency of mayonnaise. Toast wasn't buttered and we had to open these little butter packets along with jelly packets. It's a Greek diner so I ordered a baklava to go. The to go container was so lite I opened it in the car and for 3.95 a piece this is what it looks like. Usually Baklava resembles a triangle like an apple turnover. Anyway this is my review. The place has a nostalgic diner vibe which I dig. The service was amazing. The food was ok on our first visit. I wasn't certain what I wanted so I was suggested to try the combo plate of French toast with eggs and a meat. Bacon was good, eggs were fine, needed seasoning, but the French toast was good yet sad. It was merely two slices of regular white bread cut diagonally and coated and cooked. I was hoping for at least Texas toast or maybe another piece making the dish complete versus a sampler for the price I paid. The small or half order of biscuit and gravy was monstrous. The gravy was a total let down. Not much flavor besides chicken stock. There were chucks of sausage in there but you can tell it was an after thought. This is the best place for a great breakfast in the entire Bay Area! This has been the go to place for my family since 2004 when we moved back to the area. They have such a great choice when it comes to a great breakfast. We usually get eggs over easy, or Sunnyside up with chicken fried steak and country potatoes with cream gravy and toast. You can also get pancakes, pork chops, steak, sausage, and bacon. There are so many combinations! They are also great for lunch and dinner too!!!
