The first few times I've gone to Frank's I really wanted to give them a higher rating but sadly I can't. I'll start by saying Frank's is always packed, they have huge portions for reasonable prices, and their buttermilk fried chicken is pretty damn good. An order of the wings and eggs is enough to feed two, the chicken fried chicken is LARGE as well. They have a good buttermilk batter that make for a nice crunchy fry. The veggie omelet is delicious as well. Unfortunately what earned Frank's the two stars is the sides and inconsistent service. They give a huge portion of hash browns but they are never crispy even if you ask for them well done or extra crispy. Crispy hash browns is a must for me so it just sucks I can't ever get them cooked the way I'd like. I've gone multiple times with high hopes that maybe this time they'd give me crispy browns, every time I was let down. The service is good when it's good, but sometimes you can go in and sit for 30 minutes without being greeted or brought water. Good for big families though. read more

They have everything you want to break from the everyday Donuts and Kolaches or breakfast tacos and fast food crap that are on every damn corner. The ONE time we come out for breakfast we were totally ignored when we first came in. 2 Other tables got served before we were even greeted or acknowledged..I had to stop a waitresses to get service. It's not like No one saw us....because everyone stared at us when we came in. My father is a disabled veteran and was in a wheelchair. Yesterday my sister, my significant other and I came over here for breakfast. My sister suggested that this place has breakfast all day. Now this location is a lot bigger than one on Telephone Rd. It was very packed when we came that was about 10 am. We barely could find a seat..but good thing my sister has a good eye because she spotted out a table for the three of us. I ordered the catfish and eggs plate with some hashbrowns and some toast. The wait time was short as we played the game, "Never have I ever.." (such a great fun game). The food was bare-minimun ok...now let me tell you what I mean by that. The hashbrowns had such a peculiar taste to them--they did not taste homemade..instead they tasted like they were freezer burned and cooked in the microwave. It was quite gross. The eggs had a gummy taste to it as if it was just put together without any salt nor pepper. It didn't taste like mines. The catfish wasn't southern style..they weren't fried hard and just barely fried..They were soft to taste and looked as if the batter was flour instead of cornmeal. I didn't touch the toast because it was saturated in butter..soggy...pretty dang gross if you ask me. The only thing that was perfect to taste was the sweet tea. It was southern. On a brighter note, the service was good. Monica, our waitress was exceptionally attentive. She looked as if she was the only waitress working while her co-workers just lolly-gagged around. I even over-heard her ask one of her co-workers if she could help her out with getting the food out and she lazily said, well I am doing something more important. She wasn't doing anything! Monica went beyond her job description and made us feel as if we were important. Now that is what I call a waitress..she definitely earned her tip. Franks is a local diner in Pasadena. They serve breakfast and lunch but I'd say breakfast is where they shine. I was a little skeptical only ordering one sausage breakfast taco but that sucker was filled to the brim with egg, sausage, cheese, and hash browns. The salsa that came with the taco had a nice kick to it. Service was attentive and with a smile. We never had an empty cup of coffee or water. First impressions are everything. Include SYRUP WITH Pancakes please! Had to run to Kroger after Frank's forgot to include this neccesity with my P/U order. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak (decent, tasted like the School Cafeteria type, definitely not up to Kelley's quality) with mashed potatoes (very good) & macaroni & cheese (Top 5 taste) and I added a side of okra (very good). The Pancakes checked out after the milk run to the store for syrup and Mrs. Buttersworth approves. Biscuits were above average and cream gravy was well seasoned too. Frank's might earn a 4 star review in the future but what's a guy to do with Pancakes without its most precious commodity? read more

What is the big commotion about this place. I guess it's the limited space when trying to find a proper seating. Well, it sure wasn't the food that shouts praises. Is it?! I came for breakfast with my sister and her boyfriend. I heard good vibes about this place. Finding a table not an issue, with a sharp eye. I spotted one and declared it ours! After I saw another group in the spotlight of the entrance.. ducking to look for a empty seat. Frank's Grill was second-rate. The service was half out of luck. Monica was the best of the best. She broke her back for us and other tables around. When her co-workers tables lagged behind she was there on top of game! Now, to the food. Hehe... it's not all that bundled together. I had pancakes, eggs, and sausage patties. The pancakes were flavorless, like it was just a flour base mix. It wasn't sweet nor sour, but more like a bland taste. I actually had to drown my cakes with syrup for some kind of savor. Constantly adding syrup didn't help though. Ok, the eggs nicely scrambled, but it was very little. As if the cook (himself or herself) ate from my plate. I mean ya' could've added milk to make em' fluffier. Taste-- ooh.. yeaa.. have you ever had just eggs no seasoning? Yep, that's what it was missing. The only breakfast item that was begging to be noticed was the sausage patties. As if the cooks fried up Purnell's Old Folks Country sausage patties. Those are Gooo-od patties! This is not the hot spot for breakfast, portion sizes are realistic and pray that they won't leave you hanging on the portion.. My boyfriend and I were on our way to Kelley's for breakfast but passed by Frank's Grill. Neither of us had tried it before so we decided to change our plans. It's a hole-in-the-wall kind of diner. We seated ourselves as they instructed and looked over the menu. I was planning to order the breakfast at Kelley's with the chicken fried chicken. So we decided to share the Chicken Fried Chicken & Waffles breakfast and added 2 eggs, hash browns and sausage at Frank's Grill. I asked for shredded cheddar cheese for the scrambled eggs but they didn't have any. They only had sliced cheese. So we opted for no cheese. Sorry but sliced cheese isn't the same. What restaurant doesn't have shredded cheese?!! The chicken fried chicken was tougher than I'm used to. The white gravy was a bit bland. It needed lots of salt. The hash browns were delicious and they are generous with their portion. He enjoyed the sausage patties and we both really enjoyed the waffle. It tasted like it had vanilla in it. Yum! Overall, I was not super impressed. The food was decent but I wish we had gone to Kelley's. They give you huge portions and they are cheaper. For the scrambled eggs, chicken fried chicken with gravy, hash browns, sausage patties, toast and coffee, it was almost $20 at Frank's Grill. Good breakfast needs a little remodeling but not bad service eather plate lunch special every day

The original Frank's was a Houston institution. A dive in a not great area of town with people lining out the door to get the low-priced big basic breakfasts with mounds of hash browns prepared by some of the busiest cooks in Houston. There are now several around the Houston area including this one in Pasadena. The place looks like an old dive, I would say hole-in-the-wall but much bigger. It is well-lite but the chairs are hard and the booths are old. They are still known for their big breakfasts, one of the least expensive things on the menu is a breakfast taco at $3.95 which my cheap companion had. How do they get away with charging $3.95 for one breakfast taco? Simple - they make it with two eggs, a serving of meat and hash browns, all in the one burrito-size flour tortilla. Most of it can't stay in the taco as it is far bigger than two standard egg tacos elsewhere. I had a three-egg vegetable and cheese omelet with hash browns and two biscuits. Unfortunately, the veggies were much on the raw side and I've had better omelets at IHOP and Denny's. For the amount you get (TWO biscuits and a big mound of hash browns) it is reasonable at $6.95. Coffee wasn't the best. Service was efficient. As we were leaving before 10 AM they were preparing the steam table for lunch, choice of one of four entrees and some Southern cafeteria style sides. I'm torn between 3.5 and a 4, so we'll have to return and I'll update this review with my final verdict. This was the second time we've tried to eat here and both times it's been packed to the gills. The first time we were in a rush so we left. It's a large noisy room with harsh florescent lights and wild-eyed servers running about, not super comfy, but it seemed clean and we were greeted promptly. I ordered a double cheese burger with a coffee and BF got an omelette or some such, like he does. Service was fast and accommodating of our omissions and substitutions and our coffee was filled several times. My burger consisted of those frozen beef patties grilled with electric yellow slices of American cheese that you used to order on Wednesday's at the middle school cafeteria, in a good way. The tomato, onion and lettuce on top was fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. BF enjoyed his breakfast, like he does and we both agreed we would return. This place is very obviously family run and operated as the youngster who was working as a cashier paused to call for his grandmother's help, then his mother's help when Gramma didn't answer. This Frank's Grill is in Pasadena, right around my job. I had seen it many times but never stopped in. My coworker and I went on a Wednesday for lunch. The place is just a regular looking grill. It seems that it has been there a long time because it looks a little ancient. We had cheeseburgers and fries. The burger was actually pretty good but the fries were a little hard. I have sometimes eaten breakfast here before going to the grocery store close by. The breakfast is okay. I have learned to ask for the ham steak to be cooked to have some char but still juicy, and the toast to be toasted crispy (otherwise it is usually limp). Overall, filling food. My biggest complaint, and what keeps me from not going back, is the horrible coffee. It is the weakest coffee I have ever had, in a diner or any restaurant.
