Ed's sits just off Main Street in downtown La Porte. Its a quaint spot with a genuinely warm, welcoming staff. I started with the crab cake, served over a bed of spinach. Flash fried and Bell pepper really balanced the flavor throughout. The chicken pot pie was a standout. Visually impressive and even better once you dig in, it comes topped with a crispy, buttery croissant crust that spills over the bowl it's baked in. Inside fresh cubed chicken, carrots, and celery in one of the creamiest fillings. For dessert, the bread pudding made me pause mid-bite and demand my dining mate to try it immediately.That mofo slaps...hard. We had a fabulous brunch at Ed's Bistro celebrating my mom's birthday. Everything was amazing and homemade. We started with the strawberry glazed biscuits and WOW... those melted in your mouth. Absolute heaven! My mom and I loved the shrimp and grits. They used fresh jumbo gulf shrimp over cheesy grits. It's the best we've ever had. My sister also enjoyed her croissant sandwich. We ended the meal with the strawberry shortcake dessert. It was also a big hit and I see why they are famous for it. Special thanks to Magen for making my mom's birthday brunch extra special. She kept the cocktails flowing and even offered us some off menu items like her cherry cosmo and dragonfruit mimosa. Great place. Owner works there. I'm from out of state, was staying at the Hyatt in Baytown for a job and needed something good to eat. Locals pointed to Ed's. Coincidentally, the power went out in town by the time I got there. But they were so nice, they gassed up the burners and still made me some of the best buffalo-style oysters I've ever had. I also had a glass of wine--top notch from their extensive wine list. Just a great spot with friendly people. This one has been on my bookmarks for a while and thankfully I went for a Galentine's Day event and truly this spot exceeded my expectations! They accommodated a group of 40 which is truly impressive, our waitress Sophia was amazing! She was organized & charismatic, I paid a second visit just for her. Now the food, it does take a while to come out but well worth the wait. My first visit I ordered the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict with potatoes as my side, delicious. There's nothing worse than a cold crab cake but these came out perfectly. Second visit I ordered the shrimp and grits, grits were super creamy covered in a brown gravy. However I wish they gave more shrimp but it was pretty hearty and did get me full, its just that good I wanted more. My husband and I went to dinner with another couple a couple of months ago. The place was really cool and quaint, and the staff were absolutely great. The rest of my party were pleased with their food, however I was not. The Ribeye steak was very expensive so I was expecting a good steak. Unfortunately it was one of the worst steaks I've had. It was not seasoned well at all and had no sear on the outside whatsoever. I almost asked for my money back after 2 or 3 bites, but ended up not doing that. Very disappointed. read more

We went for brunch from Galveston to meet a friend from the Houston area after seeing such great reviews online. The back patio is darling and covered (part of the patio is uncovered too with some shade) and it is right next to the garden that we saw the chef clip fresh chives from. You can park in the back and access the restaurant through a small gate too. I parked on the side but now I know! I was not a fan of the Bellini cause there was no peach nectar and it wasn't frozen like I expected - just like a flavored champagne, but the espresso martini more than made up for it on the next round. We shared the truffle fries. They were my favorite and we order them lots of places and we all raved about these! Mom liked the Bloody Mary, but asked for a spicier second one and loved it. We had the crab cake eggs Benedict, the steak eggs Benedict and the homemade biscuits and sausage with cheesy grits. We all had the cheesy grits and loved them also. My biscuits were so good and the sausage was the best I've had anywhere. I ended up taking half of both to lunch the next day -- still tasted delicious! Very quaint atmosphere, high quality food and they stay busy but they do take reservations, so give it a try. Next time we are going for lunch on the patio. read more

We went with another couple recently. I was really shocked that they worked so hard to upsell everything when we tried to order. I ordered a drink before the drink menu came, and boy, did I regret it. It was $5-$9 more than anywhere else I've been, so when it was time for a 2nd drink, I chose a cheaper whiskey, only to see my receipt when I went home and they still charged me the same price as my first drink. They tried a bait-and-switch with my side item and when I said something to the waiter he said that they had run out, only to see it served at the table next to me about 15 minutes later. So they intentionally did that and hoped that I would not notice. And the ribeye was horrible, super tough. That is a very expensive steak, and I've had better at Texas Roadhouse. Overall, smoke and mirrors abound at Ed's. I kept waiting for someone to stand up and say "This expensive place sucks" just to break the tension there. No second date for me.... read more

Not only was the food fantastic but the atmosphere was outstanding. First we were immediately greeted by Ed, the owner followed by his wife. He showed us our table and recommended a couple of drinks. We were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable waitress next. They were so accommodating and attentive. Next let's talk food. We went during brunch and the menu was full of delicious options. We decided on the prime black angus eggs Benedict with a side of cheddar grits and the shrimp and grits. O.m.g amazing. I can't stress how tasty everything was! Walked in to try this gem with my mom, and we absolutely loved it! The owner stopped by our table to invite us to try some wine and olive oil he had recently received... and while passed on the wine, the olive oil was amazing and so thoughtful and very much giving warm, mom and pop hospitality. This was such a dope find. place was super clean and cozy. r&b music playing and i was sold... the menu is concise but well done. thousands of mediocre options. i dont recall how many but it was plenty of choices and sections. i got oysters rockefeller, fantastic. i ordered the fried green tomatoes, fantastic and then the ribeye... it had blue cheese ad cowboy butter and man... not to use fantastic AGAIN. but geez it was great. I've been waiting months to eat at Ed's Bistro and it was worth the wait! My first meal there was the crab cakes and the Bistro Burger. The crab cakes were just the right blend of crab and bread crumbs and the sauce drizzled over them was so tasty with just a hint of spiciness. The burger had a soft brioche bun and the meat was very high quality. The carmelized onions were a savory yet sweet touch that made the burger truly special. My next meal, I hit their early bird breakfast drive through and had an epic burrito. Scrambled eggs, choice of meat (I chose bacon), a hash brown patty, hand-smashed pinto beans, American cheese and a piquant salsa to brighten it up. So delicious and way cheap!! I hit the place up again for another dinner and had the Wedge Salad...best one I've ever had!!! The thinly sliced Granny Smith apples were a delightful addition! My last meal was on the way out of town and I got the drive through breakfast again. This time I got Hot Biscuits and Gravy. Again, the best I've ever had. The biscuit was buttery and flaky and the gravy was divine. Just the right amount of sausage and spices and it wasn't greasy at all, like a lot of B&G can be. Every time I went into the restaurant, it was near capacity which is always a good sign that the food is delicious. The owners, Ed and Jody, really seem to take great pleasure in creating a great dining experience in little ol' La Porte. They have a well stocked bar with a HUGE wine list. Everything was new and clean. And fresh flowers and cloth napkins were a fine dining touch in an atmosphere that almost makes you feel like you are dining in Jody and Ed's home!!
