Great as always. While we've eaten at Kelley's when in this area in the past, this is the first time we've eaten at this location. It was about 6:30 pm on a Friday night. Our server was a bit tired as it was near the end of her shift. Yet, she was pleasant and accommodating. We ordered our drinks and they came right away. We then ordered our meals as follows: - Breakfast Tacos and Hashbrowns (shared by my wife and I) - Baked Potato - Loaded (shared by my wife and I) - Chicken Fried Steak (Friday Special) with 3 Vegetable sides (shared by our friend and his wife) - Baked Potato - Loaded plus extra butter (shared by our friend and his wife) The food took about 10 minutes to come out. And wow - so much food! First, the baked potatoes. I mean, c'mon man! These were hands-down, the largest backed potatoes any of us have ever seen and we've been around. They were served but open, lengthwise and flattened out, then loaded with toppings. They came on a 13" of so oval platter and I'd say the spuds were about 9 to 10 inches long. HUGE! And they were cooked to velvety smooth creaminess. We just loved them. Our friends enjoyed their Chicken Fried Steak and side. The sides were quite large. At least 8 ounces each. My wife and I also enjoyed our Breakfast Tacos. We were so full, we didn't eat the hasbrown potatoes, but we brought them to the hotel and may reheat them in the morning. If you've never been to Kelley's just south of Houston, check them out. They have 7 locations. The food is decent and the portions are generally large and the value is great. While we didn't have them today, we've had their Onion Rings before and they are amazing. Looking forward to our next meal at Kelley's! read more

First time here visiting relatives. No Sysco food products here! Everything was home made. Even the gravy and mac and cheese. These are things many restaurants compromise on. Very old school. We were tasting each other's plates. Some were better than others but all meals were authentically home made and delicious. Reminded me of sit down restaurants when I was a kid before the fast food take over. As others have mentioned, portions are huge! Our waitress did our table of 13 and was fantastic. Was on another road trip and came to Kelley's for breakfast. When they say everything is bigger in Texas they aren't kidding. I ordered pancakes and hash browns. My husband had chicken fried steak and eggs. The portions are gigantic. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. Lots of locals were in the restaurant so you know it was good. The portions of food were HUGE and tated amazing. Wanted some Texas country cooking good and they truly delivered. The food is cooked fresh and tasted liked every made some scratch. The soft bread roola ans corn bread before the main course were delicious. I couldn't finish half of my plate. The outside of the restaurant looks very ordinary and old, but don't let that fool you. If you are looking for old-fashion country cooking food at very reasonable prices, this is a must stop place. Just be ready to take home leftovers. I will definitely come back here when in the area. First visit. Location is a little sketch but its an older location I think. Ordered the Captains Fish Platter. It was huge!! Three giant pieces of catfish and two sides. I got coleslaw and fries. We also got a small order of onion rings which were fantastic. They serve cornbread and rolls to table which were also good. Brother had Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. It too was giant!! Service was ok, we had to wait a bit for waitress to come back by and ask for togo containers. Overall food was ok. Typical diner type food. It does not pain me to write this review. Came in for what was supposed to be a quick breakfast on the way home from a recent trip. The Kelley's I am used to having decent service and great portioning on their menu items. Today was terrible! The time for us to be greeted was way too long, much less get a drink order. Waitress finally made it over. Gave our orders and waited an eternity for the food to come out. My party was not the only one who took issue with the wait times as the table next to us gave the waitstaff an earful. From what I gathered, it was being blamed on them having to open a second kitchen to deal with the volume?? Finally, we got the mediocre, expensive breakfast. Never got a check back from our waitress because she disappeared! As we finished, she finally magically appeared again, I requested some boxes to go and the check. I was ready to pay cash right there, but she disappeared again. I wanted to hand her the payment as I don't like leaving cash on the table. I was already beyond impatient at this time, so I just left the money for the check on the table. On our way out, I noticed a staff member eating behind the counter as he was preparing a doordash order. Not a good look! The topper to this ordeal was observing OUR WAITRESS SMOKING IN THE PARKING LOT ON OUR WAY TO LEAVE. The waitress should be terminated for health code violations and not doing her job! I tipped the counter 22% since it isn't their fault, but the greedy owners won't get another dime of my money due to this To Go up charge for picking up dinner. Kelley's is our stop when we get off the cruise ship. We live in Austin, so we don't get to come here often, but it's the one thing we "have to have" before heading home. The portions are very generous and the food very good. We've only ever had breakfast, and it's the usual fare of Eggs, omlettes, pancakes, etc. but super-sized. We usually get the chicken fried steak breakfast and it's more than 2 can eat, with hash browns, a biscuit the size of your head, and 3 eggs. I have been passing this place for 25 years and never went in until recently. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast on a rainy morning. Let me just tell you, if your appetite is not huge, and you're with someone else, consider splitting, a meal. The portions are very large. We both opted for a western omelette and could not finish our meal. The omelette covered half the plate, while the hashbrowns covered the other half... And the plates were big! It came with a biscuit the size of Texas And gravy. The flavors of all of the vegetables/ham and cheese in the omelette were delicious. They had been grilled before putting them in the omelette. I wasn't sure I would find that in Galveston, but not far off the Island is a place called Kelly's Country Cookin' - country cooking at its best! First, we were served a basket of rolls: two corn bread and two dinner rolls. The cornbread was sweet - just as I like it (sorry those of you who don't like it sweet!). The rolls were big, fluffy and yummy. My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and Swiss cheese. He also got a side of onion rings. OMG - the onion rings were HUGE~Texas size! And sweet! And the breading was perfect - not too much and not greasy. LOVED them! I got liver and onions, corn off the cob, carrots, and mashed potatoes. All of it was delicious! I was starving - anything would have satisfied me on Sunday morn. It was crowded, but only a 10 minute wait. The people were friendly. I ordered something called the Iron Skillet ($16.99), which was eggs, hash browns, toast, and a slice of bone-in ham - it looked good. But its quantity over quality here. The hash browns were average or maybe below. The eggs were scrambled again, just normal. I got regular toast and it had a waaaay too huge a blob of butter on it. Sent it back for dry toast. The ham was huge and barely cooked (I know its fully cooked but it was just warm) too fatty, and waaaay too salty. I could barely eat it. The coffee was fine, but I appreciate real milk, not those little non-dairy creamers like you get at a cheap gas station. All told, $21.50 + tip = not a great experience. The chicken fried chicken strips were dry as could be, the patty melt was cold and bland and was like a homemade grilled cheese that someone slapped beef and onions on. We come here every time we leave Galveston. I have never had an issue with the service, the price, or quality of food. We do tend to come for breakfast. The breakfast portions are huge. My meal came with 2 chicken fried steaks, 3 eggs, hash browns, a HUGE biscuit with side of gravy. All this for just under $16. My wife got pancakes which were also huge and tasted good.
