A good restaurant. Food came out hot. Flavors were good. The freshness of the shrimp was excellent. The amount of oil seemed a bit too much for the dish I had. The parking lot had many spots and seemed wide too. The servers were friendly and attentive. The inside is dated. Could use an update and still keep it nostalgic style. The facility is clean. The menu prices are all wrong. Everything is $1-2 dollars more. The staff states they have a sign on the door that states prices may vary. We had the ribeye with shrimp and the menu price was $27.95 but the receipt had $28.95. The chicken fried steak was $2 more than the receipt $15.95 vs $13.95. In total it was $10.50 more than the prices on the menu. And to top it off there was a roach on the wall behind where we sat. After reviewing our ticket every item was more than the price on the menu. They need to change the sign from "prices may vary" to "they're all wrong." This is a very very deceptive way to run a business. read more

Just don't. If you need a good laugh please go through and read all the 1 star reviews. They sum up our dining experience despite many being posted years ago. It seems the same issues happening 9 years ago continue to this day. We walk in, sit down....instantly our hands & arms stick to the tables like a sticky mouse trap. We ask the waiter...is it always this sticky? We were then told that they've began using a new cleaner that peels the varnish off the tables. So when you sit down and your hand becomes one with the table...remember they know their varnish is melting off the tables & they still use the same cleaner. Yikes. Service is ok, food is bland and dry, burger...dry, steak...dry, onion rings...cold & bland, sweet tea...not really, salad...more like a bowl of sauce, "swamp chicken w/ etouffee"... more like chicken curry with sad crawfish, mash potatoes...unseasoned. Smithhart's has decent food. The ranch salad dressing is the best. That's mostly what I go for is the ranch. ‍I might be able to drink their ranch with a straw, so if it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be eating there. We mostly order to go from Smithhart's. I prefer that because most of the time the staff seems to be bothered by your visit. I'm not sure why I have that feeling. They aren't downright rude, but certainly not hospitable. When I worked at a local grocery store and the owner came in, she was not a pleasant person. Again, the only thing keeping me going back is the ranch, no doubt. The staff at Smithhart's is great! They're friendly and even remember my grandmother and her 'usual' order every time we stop in. While the restaurant may be a little on the cool side we're always met with warm and welcoming smiles from all the servers. First time at this establishment for an office luncheon which means they knew in advance that we were coming. So much so that we placed food orders in advance...so why were there no utensils pre-set on the tables prepared and ready?? Our food began to be delivered and low and behold nothing to eat with. I asked the waitress to please have one of her coworkers provide us with utensils so our food wouldn't be cold once we did get utensils. I get she preferred to keep all of the gratuity for the 25 attendees herself. Food was edible, but it could hv easily been taken up a notch w/simple herbs to elevate taste. I think this restaurant could be much better than it is, but apparently they are ok w/just existing as is. Putting a few $$s into needed renovations (I.e. the sticky, nasty wood) get that professionally corrected and enjoy the charm it brings. read more

Had lunch with my daughter today, we both ordered the King Ranch Chicken and it was great the first time that we both had it several months ago, but today the chicken breast was very dry with no seasoning and so were the mixed veggies. The veggies were just boiled with no seasoning not even butter salt or pepper. The baked potato i had was good & so were my daughters mashed potatoes. We were both very dissapointed and will never stop by there again. We drove over there from Lake Jackson. The waitress was very nice and courteous , I asked her if the kitchen staff was new and she said no, I told her that our meal was not good at all and she was very nice about it and said she would take one of our meals off the tab because we had both eaten half of what was on our plates & we said ok thank you. I have to admit, my husband and I were reluctant to go in; People of color in a small Texas town (I am a lifelong native Texan) , we choose to remain masked until we are vaccinated and saw everyone was unmasked, we were worried. Im glad we went in. Staff was very kind and attentive. Our server, Britta (name on receipt) , took good care of us. They were not masked but the state no longer mandates it so I understand the risk. My husband ordered the hamburger steak (special of the day) and Britta let me know they had a special that would interest me, catfish with 2 stuffed shrimp. I like the crust on the catfish. It was cornmeal with a crunch. It was not too seasoned, I want to taste the catfish not just overly seasoned salty crust. I like to add my own lemon and hot sauce. I can see how someone would call it bland. My mash potatoes were very salty and tated like potato flake intant mash. My husband liked his hamburger steak but his fries were too salty. GET SALAD DRESSING ON THE SIDE. The little salad is swimming in dressing. The decor is western cowboyish and I loved the layout of the restaurant. They are still following distancing protcol and keep the place spotless. The women's bathroom was oddly shaped and uncomfortable but clean. I was a little cold and could have used a sweater, typical in southTexas indoors; have to crank that AC. They play country music (not a fan) but it is at a decent volume and not distracting. Smithhart's is a local restaurant that if I had to guess dates back to the 1950s. Their menu is about as "American" it gets. Portions are decent and prices are fair. However, Smithhart's food is what it is, - average and lacks any zest. Looking for a home town restaurant for lunch. Burger was pretty good but the response I received or should I say the offensive statement I received from the waitress made it a very unpleasant experience. As I was eating she brought the bill and said,"!this so you don't run out !" The men seated at a table close also her extremely offensive statement to me. I asked her if she said this was so I didn't run out and she said ."yes. I don't want you to run out!" She didn't say that to the table of guys that heard her nor did she say that to anyone else. Smithhart's is one of the few sit-down, full service restaurants in Angleton. Aside from Chili's, Giovanni's, and a half dozen Mexican food restaurants there just isn't much to choose from. To be completely honest, Smithhart's isn't bad. The food is okay, the service is okay, and the atmosphere is okay. If you're going to go in, avoid the weekends. Sunday is specifically notorious for slow service, and groups of more than four always seem to end up receiving their plates spread out over stages. During the week, the quality of the wait staff seems to be much better, and food seems to arrive with greater promptness. The dishes to choose are their steaks or grilled chicken plates (like the barajas) or the sandwiches. In fact, their burgers are actually quite good, and generally better than chains like Chili's. I personally have not enjoyed the fried food items on the menu. The steak fingers and chicken baskets seem a little bland, as does the gravy for dipping. If a burger, steak, or grilled chicken don't suit you you may want to choose one of their "cajun" chicken items. Essentially the cajun part of these dishes is your typical vinegary/spicy buffalo sauce. While not too spicy, it certainly adds some flavor to the dishes. Again, Smithhart's isn't bad. It's just okay. And that's okay. read more
