Ducked off down a random storage lot. Well worth the drive. Stopped here on our way back from Galveston. The reviews didn't lie the burgers are good even though this is a seafood spot. The fish is fried to perfection nice and crispy but still moist and flaky. They have the best hush puppies . One of the specials were the smoked boudain balls with jalapeño cheese. Will definitely be back when it warms up.

I asked our table for an honest review and my picky granddaughter yelled 4.5 stars. The food was really good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The resteraunt is a true local dive and a must visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The location is off the main path a little, but we really recommend if your in town come and give it a try!!

Was out fishing at Texas city dike and stopped by to have lunch and ordered a fish poboy . First time trying this place and it didn't disappoint. Very cool location by the water . Will definitely be back again. Clean restaurant and friendly service.

We went there at noon and ordered the lunch set meal for US$32 (excluding tax). You can also add other drinks or other items by yourself. It

Best fish and chips I've tried locally. The service was excellent and the owner ame over to introduce herself after we finished our meal. The atmosphere was inviting and the place (even restrooms) clean. We will be going back! The service was nice, polite and very fast. Food was great.. a great hole in the wall fishermen hang out. My beautiful mother brought my sister and me here for lunch over Spring Break. She and my brother raved about this place. We tried to visit on a Sunday but it was packed. We tried again on Tuesday (they are closed on Monday), scored a table, and ordered with no wait.

A hidden gem with amazing food and service with a smile. The burgers are off the chain and the homemade onion rings.... O M G .

Probably the best catfish I have ever had. I was so impressed next time I'm down in that area. I will definitely go back.

After more than 15 years of passing by Basil House, I finally gave it a try this evening. I had a…read morecraving for Vietnamese that nagged at me all afternoon. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I felt Basil House deserves a go. Essentially a hole in the wall, it's located along Palmer Highway not too far from where it meets 146. The building may look small, but the interior begs to differ somewhat. This is the third time I use "Vietnamese," but what's so unique about this eatery is that it also offers Thai dishes. I decided to do both for my first visit; I ordered a Vietnamese grilled pork rice plate and Thai chicken skewers. My orders arrived at my table at the same time, which I thought was nice. Regarding the skewers, the chicken was pretty sizable. It was so tender that it came off the stick after a bite or two. I must admit it was dry, but still a nice way to start a meal. As for the main star of the show, the rice plate, I have nothing but immense love for it. The kitchen staff wasn't stingy with the amount of meat they placed on the plate. Tender just like the chicken, the grilled pork carried a sweet taste that got even better when dipped in the accompanying fish sauce. Oh, I forgot to mention the skewers and the rice plate had cucumbers, which raised the tangy factor. I capped everything off with fried banana and vanilla ice cream. A man who I assumed was the owner of the place acted as my server. He did an outstanding job, refilling my drink and giving me extra napkins. By my estimate, Basil House is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house. No need to travel at least ten miles if I want my fill in ice plates, spring rolls, or even pho.

Our server was very friendly. She gave us extra time to look over the menu and kept our glasses full. We got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Fish Tacos. Both really good choices. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. The Sandwich came with French Fries and the tacos came with rice and beans. If you're in Texas City swing by and try them out. Easy parking plus they have a full bar.

But once you arrive, you're in for a real culinary trip south of the border. I dropped in very eager to try one of their taco plates. While the pictures on the restaurant's Facebook page had already piqued my appetite, I wanted to see for myself if they were the real deal. So, for my first meal here, I ordered the Pastor Street Tacos. Like at any good Mexican restaurant, my meal began with chips and salsa. It's an unwritten rule of mine that if the complimentary chips and salsa are good, the main dishes will be just as good, if not better. Fortunately, that rule holds true for Mr. Taco. I tried both the red and green salsas, which were truly spicy--a definite plus in my book. The tacos arrived after a few minutes. While the menu said they were miniature--there were four in total--they were a perfect portion. Anchored by marinated pork and topped with fresh onions and cilantro on corn tortillas, the tacos were accompanied by a bean-filled consomme and rice. With just one bite, I imagined myself on the streets of Guadalajara or Monterey; the authenticity was simply evident. I occasionally dipped the tacos in the consomme, which I could describe as a bit earthy and salty. Overall, the meal was incredibly enjoyable. This dish is a prime candidate for a go-to order on a return visit. I was very well taken care of by our waiter, Samuel. The meal's spiciness had me quickly finishing my water, but he kept the glasses coming without me having to ask. While working on the meal, I was parked in front of one of the business's massive TVs, which were tuned to the Astros game. That said, I consider Mr. Taco an ideal place to catch a game. It helps that it's open until 10 p.m.--or 2 a.m. on the weekends--though a staff member told me that's assuming they're not having a slow night. Price-wise, I'd say the costs are quite fair. My platter was about $13, which would be roughly three dollars more elsewhere.
