Really wanted to like this place but it fell flat. Menu has a lot of seemingly good options at a reasonable price. We ordered to go and it was a fast and efficient process and packaged nicely. The food was just not that good. Note, they charge a "To-Go surcharge" PER entree which is not indicated on their menu or disclosed by the server when placing an order. Ordered the blackened catfish, rice and beans, coleslaw, fried catfish, dirty rice and Mac and cheese. Both entrees came with a sad looking garlic bread slice each. The blackened catfish was a heft size filet but tasted terrible, not blackened, mushy and not fresh. Coleslaw was just Mayo and slaw, couldn't finish it. i've eaten at this restaurant many times since I live in dickinson. Went there with my son for lunch. We both had the six piece fish with sides. Both of our plates the fish had no flavor, except that it tasted and it smelled really bad. Like spoiled fish, almost like spoiled in the freezer. Wasn't a fishy smell. It was a rotten smell. Like freezer burn. It was disgusting. This used to be a good restaurant. No excuse for this. hopefully the manager will get it fixed and get rid of whoever in the kitchen thinks this is OK to serve. ZERO TASTE... ZERO Seasoning PERIOD!!!! I ordered the Fried Catfish & cole slaw plate with fries ($16.99) and I added 5 Fried Shrimp ($7.99). My 11 yr old son ordered Fried Shrimp with fries & mashed potatoes side ($11.99). The catfish fillets were big and looked very tasty, but tasted like tofu and so did the flat shrimp with soggy fries. These knuckleheads even charged me $1.48 for using a credit card. Also, while waiting for my to-go order, I witnessed an older couple complaining to the waiter about their bill. I found The Fish Place from Yelp. This is off the beaten path, small restaurant but is one you need to check out. I had a fresh green salad, gumbo, shrimp and sausage Cajun pasta. Wow ! The gumbo was full of shrimp, chicken and sausage. Very tasty, full of flavor. The Cajun pasta dish was crazy good ! Again, they do not skimp on their food. I love this place! I sure can't explain a couple old reviews that really suck. But I've been going back and taking my friends for months now, and can't believe how many things on that menu are absolutely delicious, at a bargain price and FAST to the table. For instance, go figure how a little fish joint would have maybe the best onion rings and hamburger combo in Texas. They serve the only house salad I affirmatively look forward to cuz of its GREAT blue cheese dressing and it's always fresh and crisp. Their wide selection of seafood dishes is all way better than good. In fairness, there's two kinds of fried catfish - the flat and even thickness for uniform fry, and the thicker getting thinner toward the tail with more crunch and juicy insides. I vastly prefer the latter if good, but they sell the other. It's still very good fried catfish, even for those who do not prefer the flat for even cooking. Aside from seeing their long time customers in there, they do a big carry out business for clearly hard working, working folks coming thru for their take outs. No possible way it could be as good by the time you get it home ( a lot like a pizza ) but a workin' man or woman's gotta do what's necessary for the family. Also, they don't have a liquor license so a Margarita is wine based - so despite the big selection, skip it if you want yer tequila, but the cokes and beer are ice cold. And the great waitstaff (Gabe,Gabby, Iridium, and Leo - and yeah, I've gotten to know a few of them) is always fast, friendly and attentive and never a hiccup in a dozen times there. The even better news is that the owner Lilly just opened another location on Highway 6 in Santa Fe, and I just walked out with a $16 bill for my wife and I (on a diet) sharing those stunning onion rings, that salad I just bragged about, a coke and a water, AND THE BEST, BIG, JUICY, "STORE-BOUGHT- SQUIRT-ON YOUR-TIE-WHEN-YOU-BITE INTO-IT" LOADED DOUBLE MEAT HAMBURGER I'VE HAD IN 40 YEARS SINCE THE OLD ABBOTT SCHOOL HOUSE JUST OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN HOUSTON! I have always loved Fish Place and this is one of the last remaining original ones. We came for lunch one day during the holidays and this time, the fish and shrimp batter was different. Had I known it had changed I wouldn't have ordered it. What was good about it before was how lite (cornmeal) the batter was, now it is heavy as in with flour. The two things that have remained consistent throughout the years are the tartar sauce and the coleslaw, both of which are very good. Service was prompt although it was to go. The place is clean and cutely decorated. This is great for me because if I want cheap fish, I don't have to travel to Pearland or Alvin. Cheaper too, twenty pieces of fish with two sides for 23.99 and no unnecessary hush puppies beat Long John's and Captain D's prices. I've been a long time customer of Fish Place in Dickinson for many years...from the time they had photos of many of their customers on the wall, to them having to recover from a fire they had in their restaurant to the freeze of 2021. I love the variety of food choices they have. Grilled redfish is good as are their fries. Lately I've been ordering the hamburger which is really a great tasting burger. Their street tacos are good too! The staff and owners are great people. In addition to regular drink options you can often find unique drinks like "Horchata" and "Hibiscus Tea"... which are both delicious. They also have a display of dessert options to select from. Really tasty blackened redfish filet and 6 fried shrimp. I don't really care for cracker style breading but the shrimp were fresh and definitely NOT Cisco. Went to this place based on reviews saying they had a great Po Boy. Walking in right away you notice how clean it is inside. For a place that fry's a lot of seafood it does not smell like grease at all. It's kind of a throwback diner kind of feel inside. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. The prices especially at lunch are a bargain. I ordered a Fish and shrimp Po Boy. It came out wrapped in foil and was at least a foot long. I unwrapped it and it was really loaded with a lot of fish filets and plenty of shrimp. It was piping hot also. The seafood was cooked spot on crispy on the outside but not over done. It was not greasy at all. It came full dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and a little remoulade. To spice things up they offered about 10 different hot sauces. Everything from Tabasco to Siracha. The only let down was the bread. Pretty much a soft sub bun. Not bad but they should at least toast it. It came with fries included in the price for around 8 bucks and really you could feed 2 people at lunch with it. My wife got a small grilled chicken salad. When it came out it was anything but small. It had boiled eggs, bacon, seasoned grilled chicken, bacon, cucumber, and more. It easily covered a large dinner plate. Once again it was like 2 meals worth. At 7 bucks it was a bargain. I think in the future instead of the Po Boy I will just order the fried or grilled platters though. The fried seafood here really shines the best. They offer like 8 different side dishes to choose from with your meal. The staff is super friendly and you can tell that a lot of customers are regulars. Great food! The fried shrimp & oysters are great. We also love the boudin balls & crab balls. Sides are surprisingly good--the potato salad is the best I've ever had aside from my own. Everything seems to be homemade. We just recently discovered this gem, & are working our way through the menu. Be sure to pick up one of their take out menus. There is a drive thru, but since everything is made fresh to order, I'd recommend calling in your order first, then picking it up at the drive thru. I went to lunch with my dad and stepmother and the food was really good. I got the 3/3 which is 3 fried shrimp and 3 fried catfish filets, green beans, mashed potatoes and a slice of bread. I was not greasy and surprisingly felt healthy although I know friend food isn't great for you. Everything had great flavor and the portion size was good. I would order the 5/5 next time but I did not leave hungry. I would recommend this place to seafood lovers that want to support a small business with really a really friendly staff.
