After more than 15 years of passing by Basil House, I finally gave it a try this evening. I had a craving for Vietnamese that nagged at me all afternoon. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I felt Basil House deserves a go. Essentially a hole in the wall, it's located along Palmer Highway not too far from where it meets 146. The building may look small, but the interior begs to differ somewhat. This is the third time I use "Vietnamese," but what's so unique about this eatery is that it also offers Thai dishes. I decided to do both for my first visit; I ordered a Vietnamese grilled pork rice plate and Thai chicken skewers. My orders arrived at my table at the same time, which I thought was nice. Regarding the skewers, the chicken was pretty sizable. It was so tender that it came off the stick after a bite or two. I must admit it was dry, but still a nice way to start a meal. As for the main star of the show, the rice plate, I have nothing but immense love for it. The kitchen staff wasn't stingy with the amount of meat they placed on the plate. Tender just like the chicken, the grilled pork carried a sweet taste that got even better when dipped in the accompanying fish sauce. Oh, I forgot to mention the skewers and the rice plate had cucumbers, which raised the tangy factor. I capped everything off with fried banana and vanilla ice cream. A man who I assumed was the owner of the place acted as my server. He did an outstanding job, refilling my drink and giving me extra napkins. By my estimate, Basil House is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house. No need to travel at least ten miles if I want my fill in ice plates, spring rolls, or even pho. read more

I really like everything here except the pho, just didn't have enough flavor for my liking. I have tried lots of other dishes and love them though. The yellow curry, Mongolian beef, and pad thai are just a few of my favorites. The Thai tea is good and flavorful i usually add more milk at home so get like 2 cups for 1. read more

We never eat in always order take out. The drunken noodles are outstanding and we love them!!!! The coconut soup Tom Kar Gai is one of my favorite soups in the world, the sweet creamy coconut mixed with the hot Thai pepper that soothes you in "hot soup comfort" is perfect especially if you have a bit of a sore throat. This food is consistent and delicious. The inside is no nonsense, which is why we take it to go. Nothing wrong with it on the inside just rather non descriptive. The food is plentiful and at a great price, and the owners are really friendly. My favorite dishes are the yellow curry and the drunken noodles. One of my favorite places for my Thai or Vietnamese food cravings. A little hidden jem in Texas city. I recommend take-out though! read more

I went here all the time when I was a child- Today I brought my boyfriend and the food was just as good as I remembered! Everyone who works there is always kind and very accommodating/patient with their customers. I love their fishtank. Please take your S.O or family member on a date here, you won't regret it. I highly recommend the Orange Chicken, it taste smokey! The fried rice taste like Lo Mein to me so a good choice for any picky eaters in the family. All of their noodle dishes are delicious, you can't go wrong with any of them! I have nothing but good things to say about Basil House. Except for I hope they stay around forever! Creamy red chicken and the lettuce wraps are the bomb! Fatty brisket pho is pretty good too.

Fast and very good! Love their pho and their Thai dishes . Sticky rice and mango is also very good!

Service was a bit hectic. I'm not sure if the chef is also the host and waiter. The food arrived hot and well plated. Lots of sesem seeds, as you can see from the picture lol. There aren't many close Thai restaurants nearby so I tried this one today because I didn't want to trek and had heard quite a few good things about it. Not bad. "Just OK" is very accurate. The portions are huge so I appreciate the value in getting more than one meal out of an order. Food was tasty, I've just had better. I got the shrimp pad thai and the crab rangoons. The pad thai was oddly spicy for not being actual spicy pad thai, but still delicious and I like spicy so it wasn't a big deal. I was in the mood for more peanut flavor though so it fell a little short there. The shrimp was excellent! Rangoons were enormous and tasty too, with simple dipping sauce. I recently discovered this place through coworkers and I think it is not a bad place. It still doesn't replace my favorite Thai restaurant but I definitely have come back a few times for the last two months. I can tell English is not the staff's first language so don't expect them to be super talkative and interactive. My server is still super nice though and I did not have any complaints. I have had the fried rice, drunken noodle,and red curry. It didn't take long for the food to come out which my hangry belly appreciates very much. The reason I did not give Basil House a full five stars is because I just wish the place was cleaner. It did feel a little bit dirty and not well kept. Personally I don't think the decorations and interiors are that great, but I can look pass it. read more
