After more than 15 years of passing by Basil House, I finally gave it a try this evening. I had a craving for Vietnamese that nagged at me all afternoon. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I felt Basil House deserves a go. Essentially a hole in the wall, it's located along Palmer Highway not too far from where it meets 146. The building may look small, but the interior begs to differ somewhat. This is the third time I use "Vietnamese," but what's so unique about this eatery is that it also offers Thai dishes. I decided to do both for my first visit; I ordered a Vietnamese grilled pork rice plate and Thai chicken skewers. My orders arrived at my table at the same time, which I thought was nice. Regarding the skewers, the chicken was pretty sizable. It was so tender that it came off the stick after a bite or two. I must admit it was dry, but still a nice way to start a meal. As for the main star of the show, the rice plate, I have nothing but immense love for it. The kitchen staff wasn't stingy with the amount of meat they placed on the plate. Tender just like the chicken, the grilled pork carried a sweet taste that got even better when dipped in the accompanying fish sauce. Oh, I forgot to mention the skewers and the rice plate had cucumbers, which raised the tangy factor. I capped everything off with fried banana and vanilla ice cream. A man who I assumed was the owner of the place acted as my server. He did an outstanding job, refilling my drink and giving me extra napkins. By my estimate, Basil House is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house. No need to travel at least ten miles if I want my fill in ice plates, spring rolls, or even pho. read more

I wish this place had more business. I went to dine in and was solo. They have amazing food. It's delicious, hot and made to order. Ok probably the worst Thai food I've ever had Yelpers. Pad Thai was absolutely TERRIBLE. Chicken Curry was TERRIBLE. Fried Pork rolls were just ok. Service was sub standard if that. Would I return... We never eat in always order take out. The drunken noodles are outstanding and we love them!!!! The coconut soup Tom Kar Gai is one of my favorite soups in the world, the sweet creamy coconut mixed with the hot Thai pepper that soothes you in "hot soup comfort" is perfect especially if you have a bit of a sore throat. This food is consistent and delicious. The inside is no nonsense, which is why we take it to go. Nothing wrong with it on the inside just rather non descriptive. The food is plentiful and at a great price, and the owners are really friendly. My favorite dishes are the yellow curry and the drunken noodles. One of my favorite places for my Thai or Vietnamese food cravings. A little hidden jem in Texas city. I recommend take-out though! read more

Hadn't been in awhile but so glad we did today. Ordered shrimp fresh rolls, satay, lettuce wraps as appetizers. Then my guest got the meatball pho and i got grilled pork with rice and Vietnamese eggroll. Service is efficient. I went here all the time when I was a child- Today I brought my boyfriend and the food was just as good as I remembered! Everyone who works there is always kind and very accommodating/patient with their customers. I love their fishtank. Please take your S.O or family member on a date here, you won't regret it. I highly recommend the Orange Chicken, it taste smokey! The fried rice taste like Lo Mein to me so a good choice for any picky eaters in the family. All of their noodle dishes are delicious, you can't go wrong with any of them! I have nothing but good things to say about Basil House. Except for I hope they stay around forever! Fast and very good! Love their pho and their Thai dishes . Sticky rice and mango is also very good!

Service was a bit hectic. I'm not sure if the chef is also the host and waiter. The food arrived hot and well plated. Lots of sesem seeds, as you can see from the picture lol. There aren't many close Thai restaurants nearby so I tried this one today because I didn't want to trek and had heard quite a few good things about it. Not bad. "Just OK" is very accurate. The portions are huge so I appreciate the value in getting more than one meal out of an order. Food was tasty, I've just had better. I got the shrimp pad thai and the crab rangoons. The pad thai was oddly spicy for not being actual spicy pad thai, but still delicious and I like spicy so it wasn't a big deal. I was in the mood for more peanut flavor though so it fell a little short there. The shrimp was excellent! Rangoons were enormous and tasty too, with simple dipping sauce.
