The soup and salad were great, and then my Pad Thai came. The flavor of the noodles and meat were OK for the parts I could taste. The portion was very small and my plate was filled with bean sprouts, like overflowing with bean sprouts, which overpowered every single bite. This was a miss, but I'd like to try it again though, because it had potential to be a great lunch spot! read more

I've been remiss in not singing the praises of this joint in a more timely fashion. First, this little gem is located in a nondescript strip mall. Though it's a high-traffic area, it's still easy to miss. I'm not even sure how I ended up ordering from here a couple of years ago, but when I did -- and mentioned it to friends -- I learned that I was late to the game. All of my orders have been to-go, but I have been impressed with the linen tablecloths and suave dress of the staff every time I have gone in to pick up my food. I've also been impressed with the politeness of the service here. I'm a drunken noodles (pad kee mao) guy, and the stuff here is outstanding. The rice noodles have always been perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of basil. The beef is a little on the tough side. The chicken version is more tender. And don't let the menu description fool you though, because it is hardly mild, which is a good thing! As delicious as the noodles are, this joint's fried eggplants might just be the stars of the show. They are fried very crisp -- so crisp that they are still crispy when I microwave leftovers two days later -- then drenched in a mild sweet chili sauce and garnished with chopped peanuts and cilantro. Beulah Land for sure! Though I could live on the drunken noodles and eggplants, I intend to make my way through the menu. I have little doubt that I'll be just as impressed. read more

This place absolutely has one of the best lunch specials that I've seen! I went to this restaurant a long time ago with my Mom, and didn't realize that it was still around and still had their lunch specials. The lunch specials are less than $10, and includes a soup + salad + fresh spring roll/fried spring roll + entree. SO worth your money. Very filling and the quality is good. Alright, alright. I'd like to consider this place a bit of a hole in the wall. This place has some CHARM, ya'll. I'll admit, it's a little off-putting. The whole setup can be seen as a bit goofy--almost as if I'm on a set for the hit show, Squid Game. You aren't in the fanciest of areas but the management/owner insists on keeping the theme he's owned since the first decade of the 2000s. Tables are well dressed and stemmed glasses are present. You will likely run into a well dressed gentleman who will pull a chair for you and will also flick the napkin gently over your lap. Now that doesn't mean you're paying extra for such care; prices are still rather affordable. Ughhh, but the walls and the carpet just don't do it for me, man. This place most definitely has potential and it could benefit from a face-lift. It's not too far from Bay Area, which is constantly in the flux of growth--perhaps the place will eventually be considered a diner on the outskirts of a growing food hub that "in-the-knowers" can pivot to. But hey, let's talk about food. HOLE-IN-THE-WALL food, at that. If you're a fan of Thai food and live in the southeast side of HTX, this is definitely a place you must visit. If you're constantly making stops to Thai Cottage because it's the only Thai food source you know, you're missing out on flavor bombs. Flavors with a bit of smoke to it, a hint of charcoal here and there, and places with real character. You won't find that at run-of-the-mill Thai chains. I mean, LOOK AT THE PLATING. It's art. Isn't it nice to know they care? Service can be a bit slow due to their minimal staff. I admit I would be a bit worried for a busy day. I feel there are little things you can do to front load and allow you to be present for your diners. Recommended items: Fried eggplant - this batter is just awesome. I left my fork in one just to show you how crispy this son of a gun is. Textural heaven. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. All around delicious. Crispy duck - Holy--like, nothing beats Asian duck (except maybe perfectly cooked $300 French cuisine options). Guys, this is some serious baaaaaang. And the skins? You HAVE to try this. Pad Kee Mao - Flavor wise, this definitely has a flair of its own. Great use of spices. I would say the protein to noodle ratio is way too heavy today, and the noodles seemed to be purposely cut way too short. It's like pouring the last bits of cereal out of a box and eating them. I would also maybe substitute the beef out for a different protein next time as those cuts just didn't do it for me. The flavor is most def' there. Mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream - Yes..! Every proper Thai restaurant should have this. I like mangos at any age, but for these kind of desserts I tend to prefer them more on the ripe side. I can't help but to root for these guys. Pretty legit lunch special. Location is in a random strip mall along Old Galveston Road, and it's right by a Thai message place and an Indian supermarket. Parking lot is decent sized so shouldn't be a problem. As far as food, I don't think you could beat the value of their lunch specials. For between $7 and $10, you get a soup, salad, spring roll (fried or fresh), as well as a pretty decent sized entree. My coworkers and I all got the Pad Thai (two chickens and a beef, respectively), and it was tasty and not overwhelming with its mix of sweet and salty. Only criticism was it lacked a bit of spice kick. They do, however, bring out a tray of various spices and chili sauce for you to do to your heart's content. I got out of clinic around 11am and was excited to see that there was a thai restaurant just a few blocks away from where I work. The exterior of the shopping strip was unassuming, but as I entered I was pleasantly surprised by the interior of the restaurant. All the tables were covered in white table cloth and decked out with wine glasses, napkins, plates, forks, and even the servers were wearing bow ties (which I thought was super cute). My waiter was also very polite and attentive. As a result, I had high hopes for the food. I ended up ordering my go to thai dishes, the chicken soup and the pork pad kee mao which is pretty standard at any thai restaurant. However, I was disappointed after taking my first bite. It just tasted like water that was seasoned with way too many tablespoons of salt. It did have a decent amount of chicken though, but they were a bit tough and hard to chew. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought the noodles would be better, but I was disappointed again when it came out. They were again heavily seasoned with too much salt or soy sauce to the point where I had to pour some of my water into the dish to make it bearable to eat. Overall, I was looking forward to eating here and was blown away by their service and the nice and quiet atmosphere, but disappointed in their food. My parents have been coming here since before I was born and over 25 years later we all agree it is our favorite restaurant. When you walk in and begin to be served, the feeling is like going through a portal to a restaurant that wouldn't feel out of place on Anthony Bourdain's show. Everything is exotically classic luxuriant from table set down to the server/owner Victor who has been serving the customers since Thai Seafood opened. For an appetizer, order yourself some Chicken Satay with a glass of wine. The delectable satay sauce will make your taste buds dance with every bite. Try a taste of the lemongrass soup Tom Yum (though the Tom Kha is just as delectable) before ordering your main course. There are many amazing flavors to choose from but our favorites are the Seafood Combo Panang Curry (Shrimp, Squid, Mussel & Scallop) and the Soft Shell Crab with Thai Chili Sauce. While you are eating, the servers will wordlessly refill your water or drink, focused on giving you the best meal experience you can have this side of Texas. There's no better dessert out there than Thai Seafood's homemade Coconut Ice Cream (Yes! Homemade Coconut Ice Cream ) with Sticky Rice and Mango or Fried Banana. You will go home full, happy, and satisfied. The amazing thing about this restaurant is that it hasn't been on any TV shows. This is a really high quality restaurant that I would expect to see on TV and be filled to the brim every night with customers. However, it has been more like a hidden gem in Southeast Texas. Houston Chronicle also comes by every now and then and apparently like to order the Lotus Duck. For the loser that says Thai Seafood is vegan hostile, there's always salad and vegetable platters to order from all day. The owner Victor has always been a soft-spoken stoic, politely giving suggestions when asked but our family has never in our 20+ years seen him yell or act rudely to us or any of the other guests. I am more inclined to believe the guy is a liar trying to make a stink. Never change Thai Seafood, you are already the best! read more

Vegan HOSTILE!!! I agreed to meet a friend at Thai Seafood after reviewing the menu and concluding that there should be something there suitable for a vegan to eat. Sadly, the elderly server/owner who had run this place for over 20 years had no idea what vegan means! He asked me. So I told him: No meat. No eggs. No dairy. He asked: No fish? No, no fish. His English is broken, and this was part of the problem. I asked whether they used fish sauce and he did not seem to understand that fish sauce is made from fish and is not vegan. This is the first tim I've run across this at a Thai place. I've had several tell me that could not accommodate vegans because they put fish sauce in everything. There was a stir fired eggplant lunch special I wanted to ask about, but the old fellow wanted to sell me one of his family style options that would not work since my friend had already chosen her lunch special. Finally focused onto the lunch specials he told me that the included soup was made from chicken stock and would not be suitable. I asked if he could perhaps substitute an extra egg roll or anything else. This drove the guy nuts! I did not understand what the big deal was. There was only one other table seated, it's not like they were slammed. He refused to offer any substitute and when I made a disappointed expression he started yelling at me about how rude I was. 5 stars is warranted. This restaurant is stellar from food to service. I would expect food of this complexity and quality to cost twice what it did. A lunch meal of a daily special (seafood curry) plus a lemongrass chicken soup, spring roll, and sticky rice desert and hot tea came out to a whopping $23 only. The lunch specials are such a good value. As for the food, I have never tasted a soup so delightful as this lemongrass. So good. The seafood in my curry was flavorful, delicious. The curry had such a great balance of spices. Service is impeccable. The staff is attentive, super friendly. Immaculately dressed, polite. They take your napkins, clear your plates, refill your tea...and do a phenomenal job. Feels like eating in some high-end city restaurant. Not a strip mall on Highway 3! Almost 4 stars but there were just a few things here and there that bumped this Thai place down to a 3. The location is a bit odd and hard to find if you're not going down hwy 3. This restaurant is wedged in the corner of small strip mall and looks a little unappealing from the outside. On the inside though, is kind of nice.Quote, kind of. It was unexpected to see the fancy table set up and the servers dressed very formal. I'm usually not one to nitpick at decor but I can tell they were going for a more formal ambiance and if that's what they wanted the decoration on the walls could be less tacky and the lighting should be dimmed. The food: We ordered the standard Pad Thai and the Fish in tamarind sauce. Since it was our first time here, it's always standard procedure for me to try the Pad thai first at any Thai restaurant. If the Pad Thai is good, you can get a good feel for how the other dishes might turn out. So what was the verdict? It was .... alright. The flavour was good the noodles weren't too chewy, the tofu was good, and they didn't add any extra odd veggies. But what I didn't like was the amount of bean sprouts they added. It was just too much! I felt like there was almost more bean sprouts than noodles. This just makes me feel like they are stingy. Their reasoning: Bean sprouts are cheaper... therefore add more so we can put less noodles? For 10 bucks a plate, I expect my noodle to bean sprout ratio to be 3:1. They also added a few decorations onto the plate but I'll get to that later. The Fish in tamarind sauce: SO good. Loved it and licked my fork afterwards. (Where were my chopsticks? I'm asian, I want my chopsticks!) The fish was fresh and flaky and the sauce was heavenly. They did good on this dish. Nuff said. Verdict: I'd come back, sure. It was a litte expensive, especially my thai tea with no refills. I can only give this place 3 stars because I feel like they are trying too hard! Cut out the fancy table setting and stuffy bowties on the servers. Make the restaurant feel more like home. They don't need to go great lengths to decorate the plates with tacky heart shaped rice, just give me my rice in a pot or bowl and be done with it! On dark and stormy nights, or on dark and stormy afternoons, or on other times you are just hungry and want to chow down on some tasty Thai food: enter Thai Seafood. Like Jon Favreau's character, the billionaire Pete Becker in the television show Friends training and attempting to fight in the octagon, Thai Seafood enters with smoke machines and loud music as a competitor in the octagon of Thai food available to be had in the Houston area. Thai is something amorphous I find, there is really never a "perfect" way to do it, there are just different twists and turns and each new twist and turn makes for a delicious comparison to the last way you tried it. As long as it is spicy it is worth trying at least once. I like things as spicy as they come. Thai Seafood does not manage to make me cry with a spicy inundation so they have not done their job to a five star capacity. But that is really the worst thing that can be said about the various meals I have had here - it is just not spicy enough! The shopping centre is a little deceiving for the actual restaurant. The centre is run-down, sort of gritty. Yet park your car and walk-in and you have to do a cartoon character double-take. As Michael F. notes below: this place is a little more on the romantic side for dinner. Think more like Perry's than Whataburger. At lunch it is more business-casual (sport coat not necessarily required) than the "my day off work" attire. It's not a bad thing, just worth noting so you do not get surprised and feel under-dressed. This is an enjoyable place if you want to try something new - "first time listener" for Thai or "long time listener first time caller" to compare this place to Thai that is available inside the loop. read more

Thai Seafood is located at the corner of NASA Rd 1 and Highway 3, in what I consider to be a ghost town of a strip shopping center. Hubs and I got there in the 5 o'clock hour, so there was only one other couple there and they were considerably older than us. LOL. We like to eat during the "wrinkle rush" so we don't go to sleep with a meal still in our bellies. I will give this place props because: 1) They wear bow ties and white shirts, making you feel like you're somewhere uber fancy 2) They are super nice here 3) The tables are all decked out with white clothes and napkins, as well as wine glasses for your water. Fancy-pants galore! We ordered unsweetened tea, which was also served in a wine glass. They do have wine & champagne, but since I already had a bottle open at my house from the night before, I did not partake. For starters, we ordered an order of the fried spring rolls and the beef satay. The spring rolls, as I expected, came out piping hot as hell-o, so I had to patiently wait for them to cool. Once they (kind of) did, I found that they tasted ok. I will say that I've had better elsewhere though. I did like the beef satay, which was 5 skewers of tender beef with a peanut sauce on them. Tasty tasty! For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Basil, which has the obvious 2 items that are in the name, and also bamboo shoots. I will note that, IMHO, it was heavy on the bamboo shoot. So, while it was very good, I have had better when I lived in Dallas. It was spicy, but not too spicy, so I could have used a side of the chili sauce to liven up my tastebuds (or maybe just put them into a spice coma). I will say that I can judge how salty a meal is when I wake up the next morning and cannot remove my wedding ring to wash my face. YIKES!! This meal, while it didn't taste salty, must have been incredibly salty because I had to pry my ring off my finger. LOL. Overall, it was a decent meal and it was nice and quiet there. read more

When I walked into this small but cozy restaurant, the fine dining air literally made me feel underdressed. However, the service was great - the waitress and waiter treated us very well. They even gave our little one her own plate without us having to ask for it! The food served here was just fantastic - as authentic Thai as you can be in the US. Scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and just mouth-watering. The satay appetizer drizzled in their peanut sauce just had me wanting more.
