First the service. It's a family owned business. In a historic building. The food is great. Flavorful. Best onion rings I've had are here. I come on Sundays after church with my friends. Yesterday, I had the Rafe's club it's a BLT with egg. You can have it with home fries, or french fries or hash browns. The huevos rancheros are delicious; the Berries and cream in Brioche bread is just so pretty, you don't want to cut it. The Quickie includes 1/2 a sandwich and the soup of the day. This review is for the breakfast. I would definitely go back for lunch or dinner if I lived closer. First of all, I take one star off because the coffee was really bad but that's almost to be expected when you eat at a Mexican restaurant for breakfast. I go to breakfast plate at a Mexican restaurant is always going to be where was rancheros. I liked that they added some Chilaquiles to the plate (tortilla triangles, doused in salsa and cheese). The eggs were perfect done over easy and did not have those crispy overcooked edges. Also got refried beans. The serving was a good size. They gave us plenty of tortillas which was nice. My spouse ordered one of the omelettes and it was very a large and he said it was delicious! Definitely would put this on my breakfast rotation but not for the coffee! read more

Worst service ever experienced, couldn't comment on food because it never came. We had tables arrive 20+ minutes after us get their orders taken food arrive eat and pay and still out (3 top) had not been served. When we made the so called manager aware she said "oh sorry we are just busy" no it had nothing to do with being busy it was a completely incapable waitress who really needs to find a new career path. read more

Classic diner ambience with lots of old fashioned dishes like Dagwood sandwich, chef salad, and chicken or egg salad sandwiches. Ginormous portions. Huge menu with an excellent Tex Mex section and a crazy big breakfast section. Excellent service by old school pro waitresses. We liked everything we had: chicken green enchiladas, breakfast burrito, cream of poblano soup, biscuits and gravy, chef salad, and tres amigos. I have only been to Texas City for a brief stay - but I found nothing that compared to Rigo's. I had breakfast and lunch there a couple days in a row. We were in Texas City for an appointment and stopped in this corner restaurant. I'm so glad we did. It gave me that hometown cafe vibe with friendly servers and generous portions. I had chicken and waffles, and my boyfriend had the biscuits with sausage gravy. Everything was fantastic and I don't think we left a single bite on our plates. They're your classic American diner. All of your favorites are on the menu, like a Reuben, Patty Melt, Club Sandwich and great burgers. They also have really good breakfast menu that's served all day. The pancakes are huge and the omelets are fantastic. They even have home fries, which you never see on a menu anymore. The cost is really low. There's usually a lunch special which is an entree, sides and a drink for ten dollars. You can't beat that and the staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Rigos Cafe seems to be a Texas City staple for breakfast done right. They have that old town, homey diner type feel, but with a couple tex mex twists. Walking in, we were immediately greeted and told to sit where we like. We came on a nice Saturday morning so I'd say a good 70% of the tables were full. Just by looking over at the other tables, we knew the portions were big and everyone looked happy. Service was solid. Food wise, we tried their migas a la mexicana, Reuben sandwich, the "Katastrophic," and their Sat morning special. The special was 2 big, fluffy blueberry pancakes, 2 eggs, choice of meat, and a drink. The "Katastrophic" is a giant pile of toast/biscuit, hash browns, country ham, cheese, 2 eggs, sausage gravy, and sprinkled w/ crumbled bacon. The Reuben was your classic Reuben w/ pastrami and sauerkraut on pumpernickel bread. The migas were your classic eggs w/ tortilla chips/cheese mixed in, home fries, refried beans, and your choice of meat. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything you order here. The menu has something everyone would like. The family that owns the cafe seems to be really nice, be sure to support local! Enjoy! PS. This little gem has been in Texas city for several years. It was fork and spoon previously. The food is always fresh and delicious! I love the hamburger steak with grilled onions and veggies. With a side salad. And a dash of gravy. Everything is really fresh! If you never been you should go and support your local small business. We needed a quick spot for lunch and based on good reviews stopped here. It was a Thur and had a good crowd already. Several guys from the nearby plants were dining. Furnishings is as you would expect in a diner type situation. We were waited on quickly. We ordered burgers onion rings and sweet potato fries. Waitress was friendly and typical of a small town diner. Loved that! Burgers were large and overall decent. They are fried not grilled so that was a bit disappointing. Not overly seasoned. Rings were wonderful, great flakey batter. Sweet potato fries were fine. Looking around, the breakfast plates and pork chop special looked good so on a return visit we will opt for breakfast or the daily special. This place has recently become one of our favorites . Really good food and service has been good until last couple of weeks . Not sure why but service was horribly slow these last two Sundays. I understand it's busy but when everyone around us has their food and all but one group was there after us, hard to understand why. We didn't order anything out of the usual. We paid the bill and added a nice tip because it's not any one person's fault. However, I asked to speak with manager after paying and the woman at the register told the group there in Spanish what I wanted and all of sudden she says she's the manager. I guess they didn't think I understood Spanish. She basically said they were really busy. I asked her what were going to do about it and she just repeated what she'd just said. I thought maybe she would say they planned to hire more help or try to get orders out in the order guests arrive. Understanding that some dishes will take longer but it was breakfast and nothing that the other guests didn't also order. I think they have new staff because we didn't recognize those that were there. We will be back but will wait a while to see if things change. My husband and I have been here twice for breakfast. Food was delicious, first visit I had huevos a la mexicana, second visit the breakfast tostadas, thoroughly enjoyed both. I mentally refer to Texas City as late 50's, early 60s town; a step back in time, especially along the main drag. A couple blocks down from this cafe is an old fashioned( closed) theatre also the early 50s. One expects Floyd the barber to have a shop around the corner. So, ahem, to get to my critique, Rigos is clean basically efficient, varied clientele, food ok and reasonably priced. As good as it sounds, I have to give it an 82. Frozen sausage, inattentive waitress,and country musick contributes to their deficiencies. Once again, milk in a plastic cup! Is this a kid thing, do only kids order a glass of milk? I guess Sonny's frosted glasses spoiled me. All in all an ok place, but could be a little better. read more

Nice find in Texas City - truly an old fashioned downtown diner with a small town atmosphere. I found the food to be cooked as ordered, fresh, hot and delicious. Really enjoyed the typical eggs, bacon, and pancake. I'm not ashamed of being picky about my eggs being served "soft scrambled", bacon crisp, and hot cakes actually HOT.
