My husband and I were staying at an Airbnb nearby and found this spot on Yelp. We sat at the bar on a Saturday, which you'd expect would be better service. It wasn't even with 3 bartenders behind the counter. It seemed a bit disorganized. I'd give it a 3/5 for service. I'm picky about my Mexican food. There is a small parking lot for this restaurant. The service is great though. We were seated right away. The space is big, open and airy. The servers were attentive and checked in. I stopped by here a couple of nights ago for dinner. My wife and I were trying to find a place to eat when we came across Vida Agave. We had actually driven past this place a number of times during the week we were in Galveston, so we knew exactly where it was. The inside of the restaurant is interesting, as the bar looks like a metal-roofed beach bar and fits nicely inside the space with its roughly 20-foot-high ceilings. I had placed our order online, and it said it would be ready in 20 to 25 minutes. When I arrived 23 minutes later, our order was ready, and I was quickly in and out. For dinner that evening, I went with the surf and turf burrito while my wife chose the seafood quesadilla. The menu described mine as beef fajita, grilled shrimp, guacamole, fried string onions, and rice, served with charro beans on the side. My first thought when I saw my burrito was that it looked a little small, but there was plenty of shrimp and beef inside, and it tasted great. By the time I finished it, I realized it definitely wasn't small after all. Afterward, I started in on the charro beans, which ended up being delicious. They had a nice kick to them, and the beans themselves were really flavorful. If all beans tasted like this, I'd be making or ordering them more often. My wife enjoyed her seafood quesadilla as well. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our food, and I especially liked those charro beans. read more

In town from Austin to file some paperwork and unfortunately reached the courthouse at lunchtime... Or now I should say, fortunately! While waiting for the clerk to return from lunch, I walked across the street to Vida Agave for something basic. Wowww!!! What a local gem! It's not in the popular tourist areas, but is tourist worthy. Service was impeccable and genuinely caring. Her heart was right there. The food star.... Birria Tacos! Can I get an OMG?!?! The two salsa that were served. We're both fantastic. I am all about flavor and not in need of hot for the heck of it. These did not disappoint and were fabulous. I have phenomenal cooks in our family and my son was in the restaurant industry for 14 years and a former chef. I had to message him immediately and tell him how wonderful this was. He was so jealous. So authentic. So delicious. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back. Until then, if you're reading this, I hope you'll go sooner. read more

This place was voted best tacos in Galveston, and I can taste why. The chips and salsa were my first indicator that I was in for a treat. The tamarind Paloma was unexpectedly my favorite Paloma ever. The chimichurri asada tacos were very good, but the rice and beans were my favorite part of the meal. I will be thinking of this place until next time I'm on the island. Enjoyed a lovely happy hour on a Friday at Vida Agave! The happy hour specials were good, and the margarita's were delicious. I had the street corn and margarita from the happy hour menu, and my entrée was from the regular menu. I enjoyed the beer battered salmon taco. For a small extra charge, they replaced the tortilla with a lettuce wrap. The rice and beans were delicious. Service was fast and friendly and the environment was super cute. My partner and I were looking for some decent seafood and we didn't want to hazard the beachfront restaurants with their crowds and high prices. Vida Agave had great reviews so we made our way over to its location across from the federal courthouse. We greatly enjoyed the drinks and food as everything was made with care and fresh ingredients. The ceviche was decent but my favorite was the mahi mahi tacos done lettuce wrap style. The protein portions were huge in all of our entrees. Service was very attentive and made you feel right at home. There was a lot of energy in the dining room but the music and noise was kept at a reasonable level so we could enjoy our meal. First time coming here. The hostess was quick in getting us a table. The ambiance is casual and homey. Outdoor dining is available. Our waitress took our drink and appetizer order and it was out quick. We ordered the wrapped jalapeños as appetizers and they were delicious. Hot peppers, so if you don't like hot, skip them. They are chicken and cheese filled, very good. We ordered the flautas and the mini beef tacos. The mini tacos were delicious with tender beef, onions and cilantro and filled well. The flautas were also good. I ordered a michelada with a michelob and it was very tasty and worth it. We met a couple who had just arrived from a cruise since the port is not too far away. The little unassuming storefront holds so much goodness and deliciousness, it's unbelievable. We are a family of 5, with two toddlers and a VERY hungry preteen. The toddlers both chose the quesadillas with waffle fries and were happy with their decision. The giant preteen chose the fajitas and actually stopped after one extra order of tortillas because he was full! Of course, he finished off most of it but there were still leftovers and the food was absolutely delicious. They also made them vegetarian for him by adding some squash instead of meat. My husband and I shared the burria tacos and agave fries. When I say this is the best Mexican food I've found in Texas, I mean it! We will be back every time we come back to Galveston. I highly recommend absolutely anything on the menu that we had. I did get a virgin Paloma and it was very sour. I didn't mind but if you're looking for a sweeter drink, maybe it's not the right one for you. Our server was outstanding, kind, patient with the kids, and friendly. Belgica made sure we had every thing we needed and then some. When we were all done, I ordered too much dessert which I didn't even get photos of because we were all so busy consuming it. The food menu also has a decent amount of options but is definitely more on the limited side but still somewhat diverse (burgers, tacos, wings, etc.) so it should be easy to find something you like! I got street corn, birria tacos, and a virgin mojito as well (now I typically would have got a drink drink but like I said, I had to go back to studying! Lol) Virgin passion fruit mojito: 10/10 so good and refreshing, I will definitely be back to try it with a little alcohol! If you are looking for a great caterer for your fiesta or grad party I highly recommend Vida Agave! The entire experience was fantastic and the price could not be beat by other local competitors. This restaurant was listed under, "good for vegans", uhh, I don't think so! Maybe for vegetarians. I ordered some nachos without meat and cheese and when the order came out, it was doused in queso cheese. I immediately sent it back because I can't eat that. I asked that they make it vegan. The second time it came out, it barely had any lettuce, beans, tomatoes with a pile high tortilla chips. They don't serve vegan cheese or have meat substitutes which was a huge bummer! The nachos were quite bland. Servers were accommodating and apologized for bringing out the wrong order. For the meal, I ordered the vegan burrito. It comes with no sides which sucks too. The rice and beans are NOT vegan. They made with animal products. The burrito was absolutely bland and messy because of the amount of water based vegetables they included such as squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. They were out of mushrooms, so I opted in for carrots. It's funny that they call themselves a Spanish restaurant, but lack spices and seasonings. A little bit of salt, cumin, and chili powder would have gone a long way to make this flavorful. The other person I dined in with enjoyed their meal immensely because it was well seasoned. The atmosphere was okay; tables sat too close together so you could hear the next person's conversation. It's in a prime location of Downtown. I most likely won't return because I don't like nasty unseasoned food. Slow, but friendly service. Sunday afternoon and there are three servers. One is also the bartender who is taking tables on the floor while managing the bar and drinks. Chips are good with great corn flavor. Red salsa tastes and looks like a can of tomato soup thinned out with a touch of mild spice. The green salsa was better with an underlying lime flavor. We had the Birria tacos. I've had better at other places, but they were good. We also had the classic beef tacos. These were small street tacos. Overall, they were dry which lime and salsa could not help. The beef was chucked in an unappealing way and had a bit of a strange flavor. We ate two and stripped the beef from the remaining two to share with our perritos (dogs) who were waiting for us. Both meals were overpriced for what we received. When we went to the restaurant, we coincidentally ran into that friend. I got the Thai chili chicken tacos, which were very unique and delicious. I had previously had very mid Asian fusion tacos, but these were so good. The chicken was sweet and juicy, and it was perfect with the cabbage.
