I've never been to this town or Filipp's Cafe before, but I'm here for work and decided to stop by and give it a try. I ordered the surf and turf and overall had a really good experience. The steak was seasoned very well and cooked to a perfect medium rare, exactly how I ordered it. My only complaint was that the particular cut I received had quite a bit of fat on it, but the flavor and cook were both excellent. The grilled shrimp were also seasoned really well. The French fries and gravy were good, and I enjoyed the hush puppies too. The staff was very attentive and friendly throughout the meal. The restaurant also has a really cool small-town, historic vibe that gives it a lot of character. Definitely a good stop and I'd eat here again if I'm back in the area! read more

This is a very small town feel restaurant. We had chicken fried steak which was a tad bit salty but cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were great as well as the gravy. The fried mushrooms were fantastic. Our service was great! We sat down in one section but saw some neighbors and moved to their table, the waitstaff we're accommodating and BOTH waited on our table. Very friendly staff. We WILL be back!! The only reason fans for 4 stars was the salty chicken fried steak but again, we'll go back and try again!! read more

Haven't been here in a long time but the cooking hasn't changed. Still the best shrimp & CFS in all of Brazoria County. Had the sweetest & cutest servers-Montana & McKenzie. When I tell you it's worth the drive to get your seafood from Filipp's, I mean it. No matter where I've lived in my lifetime, every time I come down to our family bayhouse, I go to Filipp's. I have eaten here since my childhood, and can say without a doubt that they have the best shrimp and comfort food. You just feel at home. I was the recent winner of their shrimp dinner, and what I got far exceeded my expectations. Our family feasted at our annual 4th of July celebration. Oh man. This place is a hidden gem. Me and the hubby went for Saturday night date night. I got the Redfish Special and he got the steak. Both were spectacular. His steak was the size of the plate almost, and the flavor was on point. My Redfish was decadent with a creamy sauce on top. I only ate half to save room for the amazing peach cobbler. The perfect little country cafe. We came around a very busy lunch rush on a Thursday. With that being said- the service and quality of food was great. The atmosphere is relaxed and everyone seemed to be enjoying their lunch. Today, I ordered the lunch special. Yummy chicken fried steak with the tastiest breading, mashed potatoes with gravy, bread, green beans... and they gave me peach cobbler with it. My sweet tooth rejoiced over the last part. It was all so good! I tried not to pig out, but when you have cooking like this in front of you it is hard not to clean your plate. The table wanted to try their pies, so we ordered two slices of chocolate pie to split up. The meringue on it was so nice! Again, one of those things you want to keep to yourself. Being graceful, and full of my previous dessert consumed, I allowed the chocolate pie to be shared. LOL. I honestly just laughed at the fact I starting eating the lunch plate before taking a picture to share here... and didn't even get a chance to take a picture of the pie. I have came here before and haven't been disappointed. The daily specials are delicious. Everything I've had has always been hot and tasty. All in all, we will be back again. The food that I had was pretty good. I had the stuffed shrimp. They were pretty okay(prefer pappadeauxs). The pinto beans taste like they come out of a can but they taste like they added bacon grease to give it a better flavor. The fried okra is good and crunchy but is a little bland. The hush puppies tasted ok just a little too dry for me. I would definitely go back. Have to try the dessert to let me know if will be one my permanent spots. read more

Sorry to say guys this wasn't the best visit. The food was good but service was seriously lacking this time. Server was very dismissive and was quite short with us. She got quite a few things wrong with our tables order and then I guess she left the restaurant after delivering our food and no one came back to check up on us. Refills were offered only once, sandwich was soggy and cold, etc etc. As a service industry worker, I'm pretty aware of the climate we're in right now and I get it but a bit more effort. Dropping almost $200 on a meal and cash tip you would hope for better. I'm hoping the servers that stayed on shift get more of a percentage of the tip left. She doesn't deserve it. ‍ read more

Took our mom here for her birthday. Always had good food and service here before with the exception of the salads. Old, bagged salad with chunks of iceberg lettuce and one cherry tomato? Please! Well its my birthday today and a friend of mine wanted to take me to lunch, he said any place I wanted to go. Fhilip's Cafe in Dabbury Tx I said ,they have good old American food. The people that eat here, are about as down home as one can get. They have great waitresses and good service. Robert and I started out our meal with a ice tea, and a coke and two garden salads. Any one reading my reviews probably think that all I like is seafood, but not so, but today I just couldn't resist, yes you might have guessed it, fried shrimp,catfish, hush puppies, and a loaded baked potato and my friend had fried shrimp, hush puppies and french fries, and I new when i saw all that food , that half was going to go home with me, so come hungry. Of course we know that this all takes place back in the kitchen, and the cooks are the real heroes, and they have a great one here, so we need to give credit, where credit is due. Service to die for and food that will make you come back. We came her with a local for breakfast. They custom made a breakfast burrito for me as I do not do eggs except in pound cake. It was excellent! We came back alone for dinner for the shrimp. We got the 12 piece fried plate with salad and baked potato. The shrimp are Gulf variety, butterflied, and breaded to perfection. Six would have been enough for all but the biggest eaters. I had 15 as my friend could not eat all 12. Salad was fresh (yea!) and dressings tasted home made. Baked potato was done to perfection and my NE preppy request for onions, jalapenos and gravy was accommodated graciously. Fun, friendly place with superior food. Who could ask for more? Great breakfast. We ordered the regular two egg special. They had no problem adding gravy to the biscuits and got the eggs perfectly "over hard". The staff was very friendly, they kept the coffee coming and the food came out of the kitchen fast. The restaurant was clean and so were the bathrooms. I have lived in Danbury for a long time. Filipp's has been here longer. This is the place where people meet up and just have a good meal. They have some really good southern food here. The dishes that I really like are their shrimp platter, buffalo chicken tenders, and deep fried jalapeño strips. The service is also good, and they are sure to recognize regulars. Found this place on a whim driving back from the coast and was very pleasantly surprised. At first take the building looks questionable, but after you walk in you realize you came to the right place. Inside is a very Texas themed diner with plenty of trophy mounts to stare at and paintings that screenshot the costal locale. The staff was very courteous and the service was excellent. The Waitress kept our drinks filled and made sure everything was to our liking. Comfort is the theme here and the food followed suite. For the price, a man can not find a complaint. Much like my Texas families thanksgiving, except we usually don't make fried shrimp that good! My only complaint would be the off taste of the tea. They must use the local water and I'm sure it is heavily chlorinated out of the well. I did however, drink the whole glass. If I could describe this place in one word it would be Casserole. The good kind too.
