I use to love coming to the crab trap every single time I would come down to visit family in the area. We placed a to go order Friday night and it was great so we decided last night to go and sit down and eat. But we unfortunately had a terrible experience. We had a 35 minute wait once arriving there at 8:10 (which we were understanding because it was a Saturday night). We were seated around 8:40ish. Once we were seated our server Natasha took our drink orders and food order and then we didn't see her again for 50 minutes. I stopped her to see when we would be getting our food after looking around to see everyone else had food but our table. Groups that came in AFTER us got their food and headed out before we ever saw our waitress again. We ordered the same exact thing we got the night before and it wasn't the same. The food was room temp as if it was sitting for some time. The taste was also different from the night before. We only had our drinks refilled twice after being there for over an hour and a half. I understand things happen and being short staffed can affect the time of when you're getting your food but be transparent with your customers. Had we had know it was going to take almost an hour to get our food we would have been more understanding. The place closed at 9:30 and we got our food right after that and felt rushed to eat it and get out since it was obvious they were closing. Once we got the bill, the math wasn't adding up so we asked for an itemized receipt and they said the printer was broken and wouldn't break down how 3 entrees and two non alcoholic drinks came out to be over $100. They are charging Dallas prices in a dive bar environment. It really sucks because my family (who are locals) loves this place but after our treatment and experience last night not only will we not be back, but my entire family will no longer be supporting this business. My granddaughter and I chose this cute little place to stop for lunch. When we walked in, we were not greeted. The hostess was talking to and then sat with a constable., the only other customer in the restaurant. We were never acknowledged and after about 5 minutes left. We got here at 4 pm on a Wednesday and they were out of several key items: Barramundi, Oysters, lettuce wedges. I also wonder why a place on the Texas Gulf Coast called 'Crab Trap' does not have boiled Blue Crab, but Snow Crab?? This is the new location and I'm glad they opened back up after the storm. It's a great place for Sargent to have. Not many places to eat and this place has some good options for food. This is the closest thing to a real meal you can get in the Sargent area. I had the fried oyster plate and it was very good. My only complaint would be that there is way too much butter used in the prep of everything. But, that could just be me. Would recommend this place. read more

We got a dozen grilled oysters to share and it was delicious and cheesy, the toppings reminded me of savory Italian herbs and pizza. This was a great starter. The fried pickles, boudin, and crab stuffed jalapeños were also so delicious. I got the chargrilled barramundi, which was one of their popular dishes, with a side of rice and grilled veggies. I've been to this place twice and was very pleased both times. The first time I tried on of their dinner dishes, the red fish topped with a gumbo. It was on top of rice and came with grilled veggies and coleslaw. It was very good. The portions were large so I had plenty left over for another meal the next day. Recently, I returned and tried the fried shrimp tacos. You have the choice to have the shrimp dipped in Buffalo sauce and select the level of spicy (mild, hot, or OMG). I chose hot and thought it was the perfect level of heat. You can also pick a side. I choose the sweet potato fries and thought it balanced the heat from the Buffalo sauce very well. These were topped and grilled with marinara sauce and cheese, resulting in a tangy tomato flavor. Not a fan. Patty melt - 3. Meat was not seasoned well. The sandwich fell apart, and did not hold together well. The fries were great though. Grilled shrimp po-boy - 2.5. Grilled shrimp was huge and good but sandwich was missing/lacking a lot. Served dry - Only tomatoes and lettuce, I had to ask for mayo for it. The fries were great though. Boudin balls - 3. Large but lacked spice Gumbo - 5. Roux had great flavor. Chicken, sausage was plentiful in it. Barramundi - 5. Sides grill beans were good and flavorful. Red potatoes were seasoned well. Fish was delicious and the portion was huge. In summary, I wouldn't return to this place. For the price we spent, we left very underwhelmed. read more

While The Crab Trap Grill is a bit hard to get to at the moment, it's worth the extra time caused by the (soon to be gone) detour. I ordered to go, and the wait at the bar was pleasant, country music, not too loud, typical novelty décor, and a courteous, friendly and efficient waitstaff made the surprisingly short time go quickly. The food was excellent, grilled redfish, grilled seasoned green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy at a very good price point, I had to put Gracie in her crate once she got a whiff. Seating in the restaurant was divided into the main dining, screened porch and outdoor, by the water. The view was really nice, especially since it was close to sundown. We came to Sargent on a mom's weekend. We found them in YELP. We arrived about 8:15pm on a Friday night and encountered a 20 min wait. We all had to potty. The bathrooms were located outside and the toilet paper had to be put into the trash can. They have complimentary bug spray (name brand - Cutter) for patrons. We had an awesome waitress who took great care of us. She encouraged us to bring in our mixer and make our own drinks. She even seated us at a table with a plug and advised to hurry to the drive thru liquor store as they closed at nine pm. They had huge portions and all 6 of us enjoyed our meals. The only downfall was that the Coca Cola syrup in the fountain machine was weak. They did have good ice and large cups. We like large! It was a great dining experience. read more

Crab Trap is a really good place to eat. It's especially good because of the fact that it's one of the only places in Sargent to eat at. So it's a good thing that it's good because with out it you are pretty much out of luck. Their food is excellent, the restaurant has a very nice feel to it, and the customer service is really nice. They have many options on the menu that give a large variety of foods depending on your mood. The restaurant is tiny but gives a very nice atmosphere and it is very nicely decorated with all sorts of beach assortments. The customer service is very nice, and the employees are very welcoming. It's a great place to go and eat and I always look forward to eating there any time I come down to Sargent. read more

This will be my first review. I will try to be very fair. First, I'm not very picky and very tolerant. We went here for a celebration with my husband's brother and his wife. We share a mutual wedoing anniversary and were expecting a special restaurant for a special meal. Were we ever disappointed! First it was very crowded and our server was overworked. They should have more help for busy times as it wasn't her fault that we had to wait for our menus. She was very busy with other patrons. My sister in law and brother in law both ordered the seafood platters. He got hush puppies on his plate. She did not. The server quickly remedied this. Then his stuffed shrimp was inedible, his crab cake partially spoiled and no butter for his baked potato. My sister in law said her oysters were just ok. My husband agreed with her . The oysters had been frozen, not fresh liked they had hoped. His fried shrimp were good. So were his onion rings. My crab cake had more breading than crabmeat. My sweet potato fries were good. The baked potatoes were an extra!( which I thought was odd) No bread ( odd also, especially in the south) The food wasn't hot either- just barely warm. Finally tried The Crab Trap after years of passing by. The location was previously a bait shop but has been turned into a great place to eat. Everything we had for dinner was excellent and would recommend coming in and trying it! After debating what to have I went with the grilled chicken dinner with fried okra and mashed potatoes. My husband had the mahi mahi dinner with rice and grilled vegetables. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, the okra was hot and crispy and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The mahi mahi was excellent and the vegetables were cooked perfectly with nice flavor. I also tried a few bites of a side salad with the homemade ranch dressing and it was very good. The chicken fried chicken another at our table had was very good as well with the batter very light. Our waitress was very nice and we were told to sit anywhere we like.
