    Small $7 taco

Wow Pelican I am SHOCKED.. how things have fallen!! I moved away for a few and Just returned .. This is the worst service I have seen in years and y'all used to be on point, on your game .... Service is so slow.... I just popped in for a breakfast taco.... Employee standing up on the inside of the counter, eating, trying to serve people with food in their mouth ! A cup of coffee to go is $3.75 coffee, this is my $7 taco It's great to be home, sorry guys I won't be back !!

Great local find, we went for breakfast this morning and tried the chicken and waffles and the eagle nest. The chicken waffles were subpar but the eagle's nest was delicious. The service was fantastic. I think we had one waitress and three others coming by to help with refills and to check on us.

What a cute little restaurant!!! Love the food and love the service. This was my first time to dine and me and my Broker had a nice Breakfast. Our server was fantastic. We will certainly make this place one of our go-to's for our breakfast meetings. Great place in our community.

We were attending a wedding nearby and this was the closest breakfast place we found to our hotel. We are so glad we decided to stop by. Our waitress was so sweet, she gave us some great recommendations on what to order. I decided to order the veggie omelette and a biscuit. My friend ordered some pancakes. Everything is as soo good. The place was quiet and very clean. Will definitely stop by again when I'm on that side of town.

This place was amazing. The food was not greasy. I had a very nice southern taste to it. our waitress was Ray and her and her team were extremely helpful to each other and there was such a nice vibe in the the restaurant! Just what i needed this morning. Food was perfectly seasoned and no long wait for anything. Small cozy breakfast spot! And the pancake was so good that i forgot to take a pic! A MUST STOP AND EAT WHEN IN TOWN

Some coworkers and I came here on our lunch break. The restaurant is very casual, kind of exactly what you would expect from a seaside diner (although Pelican Grill is not located near the water). Our server was friendly. She took our order (5 people) without writing down anything, so that caused some of us to have some anxiety. She ended up getting one of my coworker's sides wrong, but the problem was quickly fixed. My chicken fried steak was pretty good. The steak itself is kind of nondescript--basic but good. The mashed potatoes were, I think, the best thing on the plate. Very flavorful. The salad is a little weird to come with a chicken fried steak but I guess I'm not complaining about some greenery with the heavy steak and gravy. I would've liked a soda, but they only have soda from a can (I prefer fountain). Their menus were also really sticky. I'm not sure if I'll be back here. I live across the water so I'm more of a Skipper's person. Pelican is not bad, but not great enough for me to drive to this side of the water.

    The Driller
Two strips of bacon and two sausage patties with three eggs soft scrambles. Served with toast and a side hash browns.

The Driller is certainly plentiful, with two strips of bacon, two sausage patties, three eggs any style, toast and a side of your choice (Hash Browns, Home Fried, Grits, Salad, Sliced Tomato, Fruits or Sliced Avocado). I went with hash browns. Although the pancakes were very pretty to look at, and had a lot of flavor, I just found them to be too thick and doughy. Overall, nothing about the meal was great, it was a typical greasy spoon breakfast; on the other hand, nothing about the meal was bad either. That said, I don't eat Egg Benedict which so many rave about at this place, so if you do, it certainly might be worth a try.

When we arrived, we seated ourselves outside, where there was only one other group present. Despite the patio being very small and the waitress coming in and out several times, we were never acknowledged or approached. After waiting for some time, I went inside and spoke with the owner, Adolf. He came out to our table and briefly discussed menu options with us. I asked specifically about the fish and chips, as we were told some dishes were no longer available due to an earlier rush. He said he would go check on that for me--but he never returned. Fifteen minutes later, we still had not received any service. When the waitress came back onto the patio again, I called her over and asked when we might be helped. She told me she "did not see us there," which I found difficult to believe given the size of the patio. After that interaction, she did not return to take our order. I went back inside and spoke with the owner again, this time clearly frustrated. He looked me directly in the eyes, raised both hands, and said, "You can calm down now." He repeated it in a tone that felt condescending and dismissive. I responded, "Thank you for giving me permission to calm down," and at that point, I turned around, walked out, and left with my friend to dine elsewhere. I cannot comment on the quality of the food because we were never served. I can comment on the service, which was extremely poor. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the service a zero. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to The Velvet Quarter.

The stars finally aligned and I was able to meet them here recently. My mom wanted to order some dolomades to start off, and I'm not really a big fan, so I just figured those would be all her. But she offered to let me try one, and I can easily say that these were the best dolomades I've ever had. She agreed. I have no idea what they do to make these not taste so "sharp" like they usually do, but these were really unbelievable. For my appetizer, and I went with a beef/lamb gyro and it was everything you want in a gyro. Soft pita bread, non-gamey meat and everything in between. The greek salad that came with it was pretty underwhelming, but I ordered a side of greek fries too, and those were what I was hoping they'd be. We finished off by ordering a few desserts to share. I went with the strawberry cheesecake as the one I was mostly focused on, and loved it. This is definitely not a frozen cheesecake - they make them in-house and it's obvious when you take your first bite. I understand why Athena's Corner has such great reviews and hope to be back!

We ended up not going because of the wait but I went back with a friend earlier today and it was REALLY good. Like insanely good. I got the Chicken and Gravy while my friend got the Chicken and Waffles and we both finished our plates cleanly. The service was slow, yes, but they were extremely nice and did have multiple prefaces regarding the wait time. The only I had food wise was that the candied sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me (and trust me, I love myself some candied sweet potatoes) and I feel like the okra or another one of the sides would've been a better fit for me. The chicken I had was extremely tender and juicy, and the gravy had the perfect amount of sweet and salty where I just gobbled it down with everything. The vibe is nice and homey and overall this place was just great. It for sure isn't someplace you can rush through in 30 minutes, but that kinda adds to the experience that you get the minute you walk in.

My vehicle broke down at the dock at Lakeside Yachting Center during a storm, and I couldn't find a tow company willing to come get me. I ended up being stuck at the dock overnight. The staff at Seabrook Classic Cafe were incredibly kind and let me come in to charge my phone while I figured things out. I was very hungry, so I ordered their egg sandwich, and it was fresh and delicious. Even though I live about an hour away, that experience made such a good impression that I came back later to try more of their menu. I'm happy to say everything else I tried was just as good. The stuffed jalapenos were excellent, very flavorful and stuffed with crab and cheese. I also ordered the chicken fried chicken, which was great, especially with their toast. The fruit bowl was fresh, and of course I had to get another egg sandwich, which was just as good as I remembered. They even brought us a complimentary slice of carrot cake, and it was fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back again to get more of that carrot cake, and next time I'd also love to try their prime rib. I've been coming here for many years and my most recent visit reminded me why it's stuck around for so long. We came in for lunch on a weekday. Our server this time was Kayla, who was super friendly and efficient. I normally go for the Squealer, which is almost a standard burger with lettuce, tomato, and pickles; however the burger patty is sprinkled with bacon throughout. Can you imagine just how great that smells and tastes!? The rest of the table ordered that, but this time I decided to venture out. I went for the Rodeo Burger (Southern), which comes with bbq sauce, bacon, jalapeños, cheese, and topped with their Hula Hoops (onion strings). The burger was SO BIG when it came out, they had to place the top bun next to the burger. I struggled to fit this one into my mouth, as it was so big. But delicious! The patty was juicy and all of the toppings brought the southern flavor together well. For sides, we got the Fried Mushrooms, Onion Rings, Tater Tots, and Sweet Potato Fries. Super healthy, I know. But so dang good. Everything was crispy and steaming hot as you bit into it. All of the sides are very reasonably priced - the mushrooms were under $7 and the rest were even cheaper than that for generous portions. Our table of 4 struggled to finish these, as we were already pretty stuffed from our burgers. I will always appreciate Tookie's for a solid burger in the Clear Lake/Seabrook neighborhood.
