TIP: This is Opus Bistro located in the South Shore Harbor Resort & Conference Center. Do not get it confused with Opus Grille a few short minutes away. Opus Bistro is a fine dining establishment. There is a good variety of appetizers, salads, and beef, chicken, and seafood entrees. They also have a decent wine list. In addition, for a relatively small cork fee, you can bring your own bottle. I have been here a few times now and find the food to be pretty good but not excellent, especially for the price. The waitstaff is attentive but the support staff is lacking. Water glasses remained empty for long periods of time. We split a Caesar salad (which the kitchen split for us; nice touch). I ordered Redfish which was prepared perfectly. She ordered Blackened Mahi Mahi with shrimp. She liked it. For dessert, we ordered Cheesecake. Bottom line - Although everything tasted good, it simply was not extremely memorable. I was genuinely disappointed with my experience at Opus. My wife and I had eaten here once before and, frankly, were not particularly impressed with the food. When we heard about the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Night, we saw it as an opportunity to give Opus a second chance while enjoying an event centered around one of our interests. As a bourbon enthusiast and collector with more than 120 bottles in my collection, this was a special event that I had been looking forward to for over a week. About a week and a half before the event, I called and made what I believed was a reservation. During that call, I specifically asked whether my wife could attend and have something other than bourbon. The young man I spoke with even put me on hold and checked with someone before confirming that would be fine. At no point during that conversation was I told that I was being placed on a waiting list rather than receiving a confirmed reservation. When we arrived the night of the event, we were handed a drink and then informed that we could not enter because there was no space available. Standing there with a drink in hand only to be told we were not actually admitted to the event was embarrassing and frustrating. We had planned our evening around this experience and were excited to attend, only to find out that what we thought was a reservation was apparently a spot on a waiting list. What made the situation even more disappointing was the lack of effort to make things right. Mistakes happen, and most reasonable people understand that. However, there was no meaningful attempt to accommodate us, no alternative offered, and very little acknowledgment of the inconvenience and embarrassment caused by the situation. The food itself remains what I would consider average--certainly not bad, but not memorable enough to overcome the customer service experience. We ultimately left and went to Kemah Steak Company, where we enjoyed excellent service, great steaks, and some outstanding Garrison Brothers bourbon. Ironically, the evening we had hoped to spend at Opus turned into a reminder of how much good service and customer care matter. I wanted Opus to prove my first impression wrong. Unfortunately, this experience only reinforced it. For a restaurant hosting specialty events, communication and customer service should be just as important as the food and drinks being served. read more

We had a bad experience at Opus so we asked to speak to the chef and/or manager--neither one cared enough to come by our table. The manager even came to the table next to us and straightened the silverware then walked off. So, I will share our experience with all of you guys. Here goes: +Our server got 5-STARS. Nick was very attentive and tried to make things right--which was impossible. +The restaurant is very nicely appointed, and it looks over the marina. - The food--everything served--was inedible even if one person did eat their overcooked fish dish. The Lobster Bisque was clearly plated early so it arrived at the table with a film on top and was warm not hot. I sent it back and it came out warm again! My husband was hungry so ate the bisque anyway. A salmon dish came out way over cooked. My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb medium rare. When served it looked like little lollipops. When he tried to cut the lamb it was so burned that the bone broke. The meat was well done burned.We left there and finally had dinner at another restaurant. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and while I was excited to try a new place, I left feeling underwhelmed. I honestly would've preferred to have my leftovers from brunch than the dinner we had here. It was a Monday and they were not busy AT ALL so we knew that our service should be top notch... and it was! However, we stood around at the hostess stand for about 3-4 minutes before we even saw the hostess. She asked if we had reservations - which we did - and sat us immediately after asking if we'd prefer a booth or a table. We opted for a table and while my husband had no issues, I found the chairs to be uncomfortable. It could be because I have short legs, but either way... that's just personal preference and has no effect on the rating of my review. Our server, Miguel, was great! He was helpful and attentive, and he even took a few pictures of us for our anniversary. He had some recommendations and took the time to answer any questions. 5/5 stars for him. The food was kind of the let down here. I'm the kind of person who looks at pictures, reads reviews, looks into places to see where to set my expectations, etc. I'm not a picky eater whatsoever so I knew exactly what I was walking into... or so I thought. They give you bread and oil as an appetizer. Usually this is delicious, but there was some seasoning in it that tasted really weird. Thankfully it was only in one side of the dish so we just avoided that particular spice and ate around it. The artichoke Claremont was nasty. I love artichokes and I was excited to try this. My husband was hesitant from the beginning and I wish we would've gotten something else. The hollandaise was thick and chunky, the artichoke wasn't tender except for the very deep inside of it. The heart was the only part that I somewhat enjoyed. My husband didn't like any of it. Our entrees were good. My husband got a Caesar Salad and Gumbo and I got the Opus Pasta. He was very happy with his food and while mine was good, I ended up eating the asparagus by itself instead of with the pasta because I liked the pasta better with no asparagus. The dessert was good. 5/5 - no notes. Will I come back? Probably not unless someone else wants to go for a birthday or something. Our 3rd and last time to eat here. First time was great. Second time, they gave us both steaks that were inedible. A waste of almost $300. We were at the hotel again last week and decided to give the bar/ bar food a try. We ordered drinks and the bartender immediately down-sold us on lower quality alcohol than we asked for. We both ordered sliders and were instead, served sandwiches on large, stale French bread. Another waste of $80. Although the ambience and service were both excellent, the food given the price which was equivalent to eating at a five star restaurant was not well earned. Steaks seem to be the specialty of the house and frankly if they are considered as representative of the cuisine, I'm afraid you'll be quite disappointed with both the quality of the card and with the price relative to that quality. I frankly do not remember our appetizers, nor which cocktails we had simply because they were not at all remarkable. A week ago, my wife and I decided to try a place that was new to us. We hadn't eaten all day so we specifically looked for something open early. We checked their internet site and Opus was open at 4pm. We drove the 30 minutes down there only to find the front door locked at 4:10. At 4:15 we called to see when they were opening. Was told the bar was OPEN, but they didn't serve food until 5pm. Evidently, a smaller door facing the Nextdoor hotel was unlocked. While they can open on any hours of their choice, they are a restaurant, not a stand alone bar; their advertised hours should reflect that. By the way, we waited until 5 and did eat. My wife's filet was over cooked and would have been beaten by any number of steakhouses (even by Texas Roadhouse). While my Red Fish was okay, I much prefer the Trout at Pappas Seafood. read more

I ordered the Opus Pasta, comes with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat. There were only 3 shrimp, 2 scallops, and tiny little pieces of crab meat and then a bowl of pasta. The shrimp were over cooked and rubbery and the scallops were undercooked. Did not see the crab meat as it looked like cheese sprinkled on top. The Trio Seafood was 3 shrimp, 2 fish sticks not filets and the oysters were in so much batter you could not even taste them. Great to have an additional restaurant on the "South Shore Harbor Resort campus"! We've been coming here for over 20 years and this was a welcomed addition, filling in the gaps to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all while at the resort! Food was delightful, worth every penny, considering the portion size. An extensive wine and drink list, perfect for a variety of pairings- also, quite flavorful. We both ordered the Lobster Risotto entree, with a lobster tail, blackened scallops, lobster risotto, and asparagus, paired with the Cono Sur Chardonnay, which was a win. The lobster and scallops were perfectly cooked, and plenty of lump lobster meat in the accompanying risotto, which was flavorful, with that ridiculously awesome cream sauce! The asparagus was also cooked to perfection! Great service by our waitress and new waiter who supposedly was shadowing her, but did well on his own! As far as the ambiance, more of a fine dining experience, and a bit pricier than the Paradise Reef (breakfast), and the Oasis Poolside bar (lunch & small plates), big as mentioned earlier, nice-sized portions. Specialty drinks at bar were very good, a bit heavy on the simple syrup. Everything needed a thorough wipe down, though, and 4 staff members were having a personal chat right behind the bar. Several who seemed like regulars were hanging out. Table service for dinner - inexperienced server! Did an ok job. Sea bass was cooked perfectly, as was my husband's steak. The sautéed mushrooms tasted like they were out of a can and microwaved, with a bit of herb garnish to put lipstick on the pig! OMG! We had one of our favorite 4th of July EVER! We went here for PRIME RIB TUESDAY. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! This was 2 of the Best PRIME Rib we've ever enjoyed.. It was perfect at medium rare. Everything started great we arrived early and sat at the bar and had a pre dinner Cocktail, a Kettle One dirty Martini and an Espresso Martini they were spot on, moved to our reserved window table and was greeted promptly by Brenden our waiter, the lobster bisque my wife loved it for her starter then main course she ordered the 16 Oz Ribeye and I went with the Halibut stuffed Special, when the waiter brought out the entrees and put them down the Halibut looked awesome but the steak looked almost black and way overcooked, Brendon asked my wife if the Steak was good she said sure it will be Fine, the more she tried to cut into it She realized that it was not medium rare but well done, needless to say she was not happy and kind of done at this point, We had the waiter box is all up and mentioned to Brandon that the steak was overcooked, he asked if we wanted it taken off the bill and wife said no no that will be fine, the waiter came back and dropped the bill off and I certainly thought he would have taken the $56.00 Ribeye off to do the right thing, but no the steak was still on the bill, We usually have great food and service but Saturday Night they were definitely having an off night read more

One of the absolute worst meals and service we have received in a while. We were sat without menus, told we would get bread and then proceeded to wait for a long while. The server finally brought menus and we ordered, still no bread. Ordered lobster risotto and ribeye, the lobster was terribly over cooked and the steak was supposed to be med rare and it was well done. We ordered desserts and that was also an epic disaster, key lime pie and bananas foster. Both were god awful, key lime was not real key lime it was some flavored lime and fake whip cream weirdness. The bananas foster was equally gross with rubber crepes and a soupy mess with no ice cream or caramel sauce and dead bananas. When they brought the bill nothing was comped from the steak or the desserts. Sad part was this was for a birthday dinner, $200 disaster- recommend avoiding at all costs. read more

The drinks were good and the ambiance is nice. Food is a little pricey for what you get and the level of service could have been better especially considering we are early so they wernt that busy. The food came and the drinks we ordered didn't arrive until after we were done eating and no one ever came back until we were done eating. Our waiter was training but had a senior guy shadowing him so really no excuse I like coming here cause of the ambiance great date place. The food and service could be better. After driving several hours to attend a convention at this resort we didn't want to drive again to dinner so bit the bullet and dined at Opus although we weren't keen on having an expensive meal. Bottom line: The food was scrumptious and, based on what were were served, considered it quite reasonably priced for the portions and quality. Wine list had a decently priced bottle on Malbec. We split a Caesar salad (wonderful croutons). I had the Opus pasta - angel hair pasta with tons of real crab meat, scallops, shrimp, and sun dried tomatoes in a delectable wine/butter/garlic sauce. Husband had the Veal New Orleans (I think that was the name) that had three nice sized hand breaded veal slices covered in a bernaise sauce. Dish came with roasted potatoes, (can't remember if other side was asparagus or green beans) and a 5 oz lobster tail. This portion was large enough to share. The four stars were because our service was sub par. This was partially due to alleged computer issues that wiped out orders placed in their system and that our very apologetic water was having some personal issues that day. To compensate he did comp our dessert which was a particularly good chocolate cake. If we lived in the area I would certainly return to Opus as other conventioneers who dined there also raved about their meal. On the road at night this is fine dining, definitely a laid-back atmosphere, but a hint of moth ball elegance, restricts it from being a five-star stop for sure. This place seems to attract an older crowd. Other than the fact that they bring bread to you in a paper bag, still not quite sure what that is all about! Other than this, the food is pretty good. This place kind of reminded us of kind of a fancy Lubys with pretty good drinks, lol I'll kidding aside if you want to attend on a special holiday like we did on Valentine's Day the menu was off the chain, great value for fantastic food. My husband and I decided to try Opus out last night for our anniversary. We were wanting a quaint romantic dinner. However it was everything but that. The restaurant itself was set up beautifully with a nice view overlooking marina. But the people at the bar were so loud that it was hard to hear eachother. And our table was on the other side of restaurant we could still barely hear eachother. There were about 6 other tables of couples and we were not the only ones complaining. I would suggest you close off the bar somehow. I complained to our waitress and she commented that there was a pull out wall that used to to block it off. As our meal progressed they got louder and louder. By the time we hit dessert we asked for it to go. Food was really good but the ambiance was killed by all the loud people at bar. You can't advertise a fine dining establishment and have that much bar noise going on. If it wasn't for the ambiance I would have given 5 star. read more

Lovely dinner! Lovely setting. Terrific wait staff. Canot say as much about manager! We arrived at 4:45 and the manager greeted us with, "Dining room opens at 5." I said, "well, I guess we'll go back home and wait. Come back at 5. " after he simply walked off, a random server walking by said, " But the bar is open. You can wait there and have a nice drink." So we did. Had a glass of wine and then adjourned to dining room. After dinner, we wanted an Irish coffee. When it was served, no whipped cream. We asked for some but server said he knew they needed it but had requested some but was told no. a bit later, bar manager stopped by and we said, "No whipped cream?" She said she knew and had asked several times but was told no. Ok then. As we were walking out, I spied the manager and said, "You are the manager, right? He said yes. I said. You really do need whipped cream for your Irish coffee. He flippantly said, "Oh." And just walked off. Sad. Guess I won't order another Irish Coffee since he clearly simply does not care. It's quiet enough for dinner conversation, the tables aren't packed in close together like Perry's, the bar and wine list are excellent, the food and service are unsurpassed. There is a nice view of the water. The Tomahawk steak is $90 but easily feeds 3 hungry adults . read more
