Burger is okay, it's really big. I do like the potato buns they use. Fries are gross. I ordered Cajun fries, they were not crispy. They are very much low quality frozen fries for almost $4. You could buy a bag of frozen fries from H-E-B that would be better.. The service sucks. Having a rude worker really irritating. Like girl, could you look any more miserable? Hippo was a nice surprise! It was quiet inside, and I don't know why, it is great food. We ordered at the counter and then sat down. It didn't take too long to get our food. I got the Hippo Mushroom Burger. It was way more food than I was expecting. The burger was thick and juicy, with a great seasoning level. The fries were also cooked well, a nice golden brown. Let me start by saying I LOVE burgers!!! I consider myself a burger aficionado as you see in all my previous YELP postings. I am in this part of town probably once a month and I try to visit different restaurants when I can. I found Hippo Burgers on YELP and was very excited to visit. I mean Angus beef burgers!!! How can you go wrong?? Well they did. Reading other posts that state that these are great tasty burgers compared to McDonald's says it all. A comparison is a very low bar. My order was the combo platter which included fries and a drink. My expectation is for a burger to be juicy to the level of it being runny and sometimes messy. I found this burger to be overdone and not one drop of juiciness. NOT ONE DROP!! I ordered it with bacon and jalapenos. The burger had no flavor it was meh. Not even the Jalapenos, no heat at all. The cool part is that they had 2 different ketchups: normal and a Jalapeno one. The Jalapeno ketchup was tasty. Plenty of bacon. The fries were hot and crispy but some were simply blacken chips. The restaurant was super clean. They had a man immediately wipe down the tables once you were finish. I was there at lunch time, 12:30?, on a Friday afternoon and the restaurant was pretty empty. 1 table was filled fellow workers and maybe 2 others that had solo clients. To me not a good sign especially when the next door restaurants were full and a constant flow of customers. The price was quite low! The burger is okay, the bun is better than okay. The lettuce and tomato were crisp and fresh. The fries are thicker cut, and seasoned (if you like them that way). They also offer chicken and a veggie burger, as well as salads. You can dress up the burger and/or fries, or have it plain. They have sweet potato fries and tater tots. This was my very first experience at this establishment, which to be frank, it was sub par. I gave it a 3/5 rating, but I would have done a 2.5/5 if I could. First and foremost, my friend and I weren't certain if this establishment was even open, there were no posted hours on the door, and the open sign was off. This isn't something that sways my rating, but it's a subtle reminder to the staff. The menu was vast, with many different options, which is always enjoyable! I asked the young lady if she had any suggestions, which she provided me with some of her favorites, and top sellers. I decided to go as basic as possible, which is how I like to judge a place for my first time. I ordered the bacon cheese burger how it came, the young lady reminded me I liked the thought of the garlic fries, and suggested that as my side! Great job on her part. I also order the cheese sticks.... Let's talk about the cheese sticks. $10.55 for basic, average sized cheese sticks, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with average, a lot can be done if you know how to use it. But $10.55 for run of the mill, frozen cheese sticks, which mine were infact still frozen on the inside. I was excited to "Lady and the Trap" these sticks with my home boy, but was rudely disappointed. Imagine feeling some type of way, expecting to share an intimate moment with your guy best friend, expecting long ooey gooey white stuff pouring out your crisp stick, just to bite down on firm congealed cheese. Needless to say, the cheese sticks are a total no, $10.55 for 7 unimpressive cheese sticks is outrageous... let's talk about the garlic fries, listen, I know I ordered garlic fries, but guys.... I was expecting possibly some fries, tossed with a bit of butter, garlic, and maybe some parsley. But what I got was a spoon full of Jared garlic on top of my fries. It's one of those situations where, technically you got what you ordered, but we are working with prison cell practices here.. One last thing, while ordering, the kitchen staff just standing there staring at you is a bit unnerving. To feel like a chimpanzee in a zoo is how it feels to order your food here, O_O. Now, the burger was great! Which technically is the whole reason I came here, I was very satisfied with my burger experience! Plenty of meat in your mouth, and that's what we are all here for! Lil pink, moist, just how daddy likes it. All around, there's improvements to be made, I think this place has the potential of being a 4-4.5/5 star establishment! A solid burger from a local chain. Good taste , potato bun ( not too thick). Good shakes. A single patty with cheese for over 9$ and shakes for almost 7$ was a little much. I didn't like the onion rings . They were the super crispy "bag type" and they were "hard fried" . Overall, I would return. Place was clean with good restrooms. read more

The kids' meal cheeseburger didn't quite match up to Five Guys, though I'd give the food portion a 7/10 because the servings were generous. I ordered the kids' cheeseburger with Cajun fries. Overall, I'd rate them a 6.5/10, with the 6.5 primarily attributed to the portion size.
