Great little restaurant in the center of Clinton. I had an egg omelette. They give you numerous options for your omelette. I got egg whites, spinach and roasted peppers. They also give you a large selection of sides, I got the home fries. I also got the wheat toast. The omelette was delicious along with the fries. They gave you an endless cup of coffee and made sure it was always full. You pay your bill on line at your table, which makes it easy to check out. If you are looking for a nice place for breakfast, this is the place. It also has a parking lot in the back. read more

I am writing a second review because I have returned several times with both friends & family. My first time at The Coffee Break was on a Sunday after church. I ordered the CA Benny & it was truly delicious! My husband ordered Bob's Breakfast with their special sausage; again delicious. The service was great. I now have come to the conclusion that The Coffee Break is a hit or miss. I have returned on different days of the week & again on the weekends. I have also consistently ordered the CA Benny, hoping to repeat the deliciousness of my first experience. The most recent time my husband & I went to meet family was this past Sunday. Unfortunately, our food took 55 minutes to get to our table. We had 2 little girls with us aged 5 & 4. We asked for crayons & anything to draw on at about 30 minutes in. Then I noted that 5 people who came in 15 minutes after us received their food about the same time. I talked to the waitress & asked about our food & if our orders would be up soon. She told me "probably not". I also brought to her attention that the group who came well after us were served already. She denied that the group came in before us. Seriously?! I also noticed 2 couples left before even receiving their order. I guess they didn't want to wait anymore. Our food was mediocre. CA Benny, Bob's Breakfast with sausage, Bacon Egg & Cheese muffin, 2 pancakes for the kids. The hollandaise sauce on the CA Benny was delicious the first time with a great lemon accent & not too thick. The 2nd time I didn't even taste a hint of lemon & it was thick & pasty, the last 2 times it was just average. The sausage with Bob's Breakfast had a hint of Fennel in it the first time & was delicious, not so thereafter. Bottom Line: I'll keep trying, but The Coffee Break is definitely a hit or miss as far as the food & service. Perhaps one has a better chance on the weekends, but it is difficult to know. read more

I've only been a few times but I intend on make breakfast here a regular habit. The food is excellent and they have delicious iced coffee (free refills!). There is generous seating outside, plenty inside, and both on and off street parking. I love that you can order breakfast or many lunch items (griddle food) if you're out for brunch. Within my crew we had someone get French toast, an omelette, and another get a tuna melt. The server was happy to accommodate my friend who had a hankering for an early lunch. read more

We really like that the food here is actually real and not frozen and shipped ready to eat... the portions are a good size, the service friendly. There is an outdoor area during mild weather to eat. Nice place to get breakfast! Waitstaff was friendly and was patient with my grandchild making up their mind. Also parking off street which is a plus. We have eaten here often and always enjoyed it. Today was a disappointment. We were seated right away, but it took 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. After we ordered, we waited a full hour for our food to arrive. I ordered an omelet with spinach, mushrooms and feta cheese. When my meal arrived, it looked as if the kitchen had forgotten to add the feta cheese and simply put some feta on the plate and placed the omelet on top of it. The middle of the omelet was not cooked and runny. While the other two people in my party did not have the major complaints that I did, they were also disappointed in the quality of service and food, saying it was not as good as they remembered. read more

Three strikes, they're out. We've given this establishment more than one opportunity to do better; they failed. Today's debacle resulted in a 40 minute wait--which would be understandable if they'd been really busy. When my husband asked (politely) if the waitress could check our order the cook sent a woman out (Manager?) with the message "can they wait until their food is cooked?" So a sarcastic, snarky response to a reasonable question after a long wait... good idea for business. Sure buddy, but how about sending out those two muffins we ordered on the side while we wait? Once the food arrived my "California Benny" was swimming--literally drenched--in hollandaise sauce, as was the accompanying fruit (nothing like pineapple and blueberries soaked in hollandaise) and, subsequently, the English muffin was inedible as it simply disintegrated in the pool of hollandaise. My husband's meal couldn't possibly have had more than one full scrambled egg with a single slice of bacon crumbled on top, and the toast that was supposed to accompany it wasn't included. We were grateful for the muffins which is the only reason for the two stars (plus our waitress was polite). And our piss-poor meal that I couldn't even eat cost us $35 before the tip. Awesome little place. 20 or so indoor tables, a long breakfast bar full of "regulars," excellent service. My 6 year old told our server that "you guys make the best banana pancakes in the world!" The kids also loved the flamingos everywhere. Our breakfast was very good, would definitely go again, next time we're in town. read more

We go to Clinton about twice a year for antiques and outlet shopping and have done so for a few years. We always start the day with breakfast at Coffee Break. Today we were able to be seated immediately- service was prompt and friendly but the food wasn't as good as I remember. My husband and I had omelettes (his was ham, green peppers, onion and mine was bacon, cheese and roasted red peppers) and both were OK but a little thin. I think the bacon in mine was really ham (looked the same as my husband's). Also the coffee was not as good as before (only sweetener offered is sugar; no substitutes available.) The restaurant is busy so maybe this was an off day! read more

Let's get one thing out of the way here: I am a slut for diner breakfast food... And this place? Ugh. So good. If you look at the other reviews, you see a lot of complaints about the quality of the service. And I'll admit there is room for improvement. They could be a little more attentive, but they're friendly, cheery, and, when they do get around to it, very helpful. My only real complaint is the coffee: I found it to be pretty weak and lacking in flavour. I mean, if your gonna call your place The Coffee Break, you should make sure that the cup of joe you set down in front of your customers is as least as good as Dunkin Donuts (which I don't hold in very high esteem anyway.) Having said that, this place, the food, really satisfied my predilection for good, American breakfast food. Hands down, the best corned beef hash I've ever had. The eggs are cooked perfectly. Even the sourdough toast was great. Portions are generous and prices are fair. The atomsphere and decor are warm, inviting, and wonderfully quirky. I'm gonna be drawn to this place every time I find myself in the area. If they could tighten up the service, I'd give them 5 stars. read more

Our family of 4 just moved to Clinton last month. We went here for breakfast today, and we will definitely be back!! Two of us had pancakes and they were HUGE and delicious! Between us we also had the French toast, an omelette (with tomato, feta and mushroom), home fries, corned beef hash and, best of all, a cinnamon muffin that was grilled! UH-mazing! I like breakfast food but am not usually "wowed" by it. I thought The Coffee Break had a great selection with just enough unique touches to make it stand out. The service was excellent as well. For those concerned about Covid-19 precautions, they have outdoor patio seating with plenty of tables that are spread apart, and have partitions indoors between the booths. We had to find our way to our own table and wait to be waited on. The sliced tomatoes I was served were pure trash. Why serve these pale plastic tomatoes during peak local tomato season? We thought we would give this place another shot. Bad idea. First of all, what self respecting breakfast place doesn't offer home fries? The have "shredded potatoes " but they are an extra charge. Almost everything is an extra charge. Imagine charging $4 to add sliced bananas to a single pancake (they are currently $0.69 lb in the store)! Even if they put a whopping one pound banana in the pancake you are being grossly overcharged. I ordered a breakfast that was 2 eggs, a pancake and some meat. Since I don't eat meat I asked if they could replace the meat with a banana in my pancake. I was told that wouldn't be a problem. Great! Ugh, my eggs were not beaten well and had streaks of white throughout and some egg shell to boot. The pancake tasted like it came right out of a box. My husband got an omelette that looked more like someone took my scrambled eggs and dropped some peppers and unmelted cheese on top. The service was lacking as well. We asked for more water. It never came. When she finally delivered our food I asked for the water again. It came this time but there was no apology, no pleasantries. She never checked to see how our meals were. Then she brings me the check. Not only am I charged for the meat I didn't want but I'm charged an additional $4 for the banana. I point out that she told me I could make the swap. She says she will fix it and comes back with an adjusted bill I'm still being overcharged by a dollar. She says she needs to speak with the manager because she doesn't believe it can be fixed. The manager comes and tells me you can't make substitutions so I have to pay. Are you really arguing with a customer over $1? I explained to her that the waitress told me I could. She says she will speak to the waitress. She comes back and completely throws the waitress under the bus. "I finally got her to admit that she said yes to you". The bill is adjusted and the waitress returns to settle up and she is so rude to us. Never again! read more

There is nothing like a good breakfast/lunch spot and The Coffee Break was a recent, pleasant discovery. It's very much a breakfast diner, but with brighter, happier lighting, more space and a lower-than-usual breakfast counter. The first thing we noticed on the way in was a handwritten specials menu board that touted "grilled cheese with grilled fried chicken cutlet in it." We chuckled- it was cute. Anyway, my friend ordered just that and I ordered an omelet with cheese, onion and broccoli cooked in olive oil and fresh fruit on the side. She said hers was delicious and mine, though made with American Cheese (there were no choices, I didn't mind), was perfect. AND THE FRUIT!!! They served perfect summer cantalope and honey dew melon and it was perfectly ripened- phenominal! And my breakfast was $5.50. Can't do much better than that! read more
