Laundry costs a least 25% more due to "faulty" coin counting in the machines. Odd as there is 3 types of washes and 2 types of dryers. I keep exact track this visit and Ive had to put in an additional $4.75 because of this....again. Last time it was $2.75 and the first time i was here it was only $1.25. Different machines, same exact issue ALWAYS in the laundromats favor is beyond suspicious. If a waiter hands out wrong change if he is just sloppy, the sometimes its in his favor sometimes its in the customers. If he is dishonest the "error" will always favor him and this is the case according to the data. read more

Heaven has been found at the Clothesline Laundromat!!!! I have been on a frustrating hunt for the perfect laundromat in the area... I didn't think I was asking so much, just clean, machines that work, a change machine that doesn't eat money, and oh, did I mention CLEAN? Most of the washers are old school, nothing fancy, though they have a few newer ones. The dryers are the traditional dryers I see in most laundromats, they're large and efficient. They have free parking until 8pm, but street parking is free after that. I love that the machines are so spread out and you have space to do your laundry, rather than being cramped like most places. The employee that works there is super nice, friendly, and helpful...this is a huge deal after we were mistreated by rude and disrespectful staff at Brighton Laundry and Dry Cleaning. My only real gripe is that the machines only take quarters, but at least they have a change machine on site. read more

Tripe wash requires 23, 24, 25, or 26 quarters depending on the size. I came here because my local/closest coin laundry closes at 9pm and a yelp reviewer mentioned that The Clothesline closes at 11pm. Actually, The Clothesline closes at 10pm as advertised according to the manager. He was sweeping and cleaning. He nicely let me know that the 23 quarter machine runs 10mins slower than the other triple wash machine, so I avoided using that. The 25 quarter machine shakes so badly for about 30 seconds at the beginning that you think it'll break the floor and other machines, but afterwards was fine. The laundrymat is immaculate, safe, and the machines are working well (change machine as well as wash machines). I'm currently sitting here because after 8:30pm you have to sit with your wash load and after 9ish? you have to sit with your dry load. There's about three other people waiting too and in general it's not so bad waiting. I needed fresh clean sheets because I was having last minute guests and I wasnt able to wash at another laundrymat, so The Clothesline fulfilled a desperate need. Pretty decent laundry, although unattended. Visited mid day on a Tuesday and lots of machines were available, except the large front loaders that I needed. Many of the machines are out of order, so this limits the amount of larger washers available. The largest front loaders are $5 per wash. read more

First time there. And to be sure, my last. 15 dryers not working. Staff using most of the remaining 10. One of my dryer doors kept opening by itself mid cycle causing laundry to fall onto the floor. When filling the dryer with wet laundry I followed direction from the staff beforehand about how much laundry is appropriate to place in their dryers. I was then blamed by staff for having too much in the machine causing the dryer door to open mid cycle. In fact, the manager had to adjust the door latch to correct the problem. The laundry that fell to the floor had to be washed all over again. I would like to note these "big" commercial dryers do not handle loads any larger than the average residential machine even though the drums are more than twice the size. A man with alcohol on his breath wearing a gator over his face insisted the dryers ran hot. That was not my experience. Out of 2 large capacity and 1 small front loader washing machines I went home with laundry that was only 25% dry /15% damp after 60 minutes in the dryer. The rest came home entirely wet - a result of the large number of dryers "Out of Order", their low capacity to produce heat and the high number of remaining dryers unavailable for use by walk-in customers. I ran two loads in their 50lb large capacity washing machines. There are only 4 available in the entire place. These are midsize machines equivalent to my Electrolux front loader at home. The large capacity washing machine I activated 10 minutes after the first one finished 8 minutes before the load in the first machine. $8 each. Coins only. 32 quarters for each machine. $6 for the small front loader. Think about the time it takes to pump 86 quarters into these washers to do three loads of laundry. A total of 40 additional quarters are then required to run 2 dryers for one hour each. Absurd! The website makes the place look like a 3 star hotel lobby! It reads: "Your friendly managers and their pleasant, helpful staff have built a family laundry which is clean, open and comfortable." It goes on and on about being a place for the whole family to have fun and play, use WIFI and eat your favorite snacks in a clean, pretty, happy environment. These are not friendly people. It is not a clean environment. The laundry folding tabletops are worn out laminate. There was a cigarette butt on the filthy worn out linoleum below the dryer where my clothes fell out onto the floor. The parking lot has many potholes and uneven patched surfaces everywhere you step. A nightmare. All this for $32.00, 3.5 hours of my time and the gas money it took to get there. To date, most of the positive reviews come from customers using their "wash, dry, fold service. To be clear these customers are working with a different set of standards. They walk in, drop off and walk out. They walk in, pick up, pay and walk out. They do not operate the equipment, they do not spend any significant amount of time inside the building. While there are challenges that come with managing old machines this is no excuse. It's high time to do a major overall renovation to this property inside and out along with a major equipment upgrade - Or shut down the walk-in service and QUIT PRETENDING YOU'RE OFFERING SOMETHING YOU SIMPLY DO NOT. read more

This is a very well managed laundromat. It's always clean, very few machines are out of order. The reading material is very New England, often consisting of back issues of the New Yorker and, for some reason, the New England Journal of Medicine. It's pretty cheap to do laundry here, about 2.75 per wash and 5 min per quarter for drying. Not a bad deal for the area! You can buy single serving packets of detergent, but there is also a CVS just across the street. Sometimes the seating is a bit limited, so sticking to week nights is a good idea. Also, beware, there is no air conditioning so doing laundry here in the summer months can be pretty rough. read more

This laundromat is the closest to me and the other ones in Brookline have closed. This location could be better however it's expensive for a wash $3.50 and 0.25 cents for 5 minutes of drying. The other issue is that there is a lady running her laundry business out of this laundromat and most Saturday mornings she is hogging 75% of the working washers and dryers which does not allow for rest of us to do our laundry in a timely manner as we ALL have to wait for her to finish her business washings. read more

This place works for me. Down the street, parking behind the building, clean and quiet. I get things done while I do my laundry! It's amazing. As far as prices go, it's $2.25 for the washers I used; and $0.25 for 5 minutes on the dryers. Sometimes, you have to push the quarters into the machines more forcefully to get a reading, but I've never lost money on these things. I typically go to Laundry Express for the wash/dry and fold service on Harvard St. but now that it is permanently closed (...so weird, out of nowhere!), I thought I would try this spot. When I walked in, I was greeted by the owner who was friendly and welcoming. He informed me about the different types of washers (only 3) and told me to ask him if there's anything else that I would need help with. The washers and dryers are quick, inexpensive and powerful. It costs $2.25 to wash smaller loads and $2.50 for larger loads (unsure about the triple load-er machine). The dryers are $.25 for 5 minutes and work very, very well. You can choose what level of heat you prefer (per usual, alike other laundromats), pause it whenever necessary and adjust/change the heat if you'd like (awesome!). It's next to a pizza shop, nail salon and across the street from a wine shop, CVS and the library! I would totally recommend giving this place a try! read more

This is my first experience with a laundromat in Boston and honestly, I'm not impressed. The machines are expensive! $.25 for 5 mins of drying? C'mon! That's just too much for me! There were quite a few dryers with post-it notes on them saying, "out of order" and yet were filled with clothes... I don't know. We went on a Sunday afternoon, which apparently is a high traffic laundry day- had to wait for dryers and then when I brought my clothes home, they didn't smell fresh, fresh. They were clean but they didn't smell fresh. I don't know. I think the worst part about this place is that there's no bathrooms. I had to pee so bad that I walked back to the apartment and went. If you enjoy arbitrary rules, a rude, condescending attendant, then this is the place for you! Today will be the last time I come here for two reasons, 1) the inane arbitrary rules enforced by a man who clearly has nothing better to do. 2) the bad machines are overpriced. If you are reading this, do not go here. Based on every review, I believe new ownership is the only way this place will improve, so continuing to give this man your business will only continue this poor behavior and business. He's been labeled a creep, rude, and off putting, all of which are true. You aren't allowed to put "dirty" clothes on the tables or the carts, only clean clothes. The attendant is an a**, plain and simple. He's rude and feels the need to stare everyone down and enforce his rules, he makes me VERY uncomfortable. I truly believe that the only reason this place is in business is because there are no other places to go. I will be making the extra effort to go somewhere else, even though the closest place is a mile away. To the owner, fix your attitude, the best way to go out of business is to have a bad attitude. This is my first time using a laundromat in Boston. Was worried it would be smaller than ones I'm used to at home(FL) but is very spacious, has plenty of machines, and price is reasonable. I went on a Sunday afternoon ( which is busy laundry day for most) and had no trouble finding a washer/dryer for 4 loads. Also, plenty of parking which is also really great for the area. Only downside is there is no wifi so I couldn't do any homework, but machines are very quick and efficient so I got all of my laundry done in a little over an hour. Unfortunately there aren't too many laundrymats in Brookline. This one is dingy and the old $3 machines don't actually get your clothes clean- not sure about the bigger ones. All I can say is that it's fast (maybe because the clothes don't wash long enough LOL) and there is parking in the back. The attendant is definitely "off" too. I'd read some of the other reviews about his insane enforcing of arbitrary "rules" all the while walking over trash on the floor ...and yep, it's true! Fortunately Village Pizza is right next door with nice employees, good subs and salads, wifi, sports on the TV, and a bathroom- so that's the way to go. read more

I use this laundromat pretty frequently - honestly, it is your run of the mill laundromat, except cleaner. Here are the pros and cons Pros: -It is convenient - right next to an indie market and a CVS, so if you run out of anything, voila. If you're hungry, next door is a pizza shop. -It is never crowded -The quarter machine always works (there are two!) -They have a few of those heavy duty machines to wash quilts/bedding. -Opens early (6am), closes late (11pm). -.25 for 5mins of drying! Can even be on "high". -It is relatively clean at all times Cons: -The owner seriously is a chatterbox, and is sort of an aggressive one. Bring a book or an iPod if you're doing your laundry. Or better yet, step out for awhile. They usually have a small pile of magazines as well in case you forget. Subtle distinterested cues do not work. I'm not being mean here, just warning the introverts in the audience. If you like some friendly chatter and interruption, ignore this whole warning. But if you're a Masshole like me... -Washing costs an arm and a leg (especially the heavy duty machines). Probably standard rates around these parts. -It closes late, but the last wash is at 9:30pm. -No ventilation. -Just three folding tables for about 30 machines. -I've had a bad experience with two machines so far (one had this gross slime at the bottom that stuck to all of of my clothes so I had to do another wash. another shredded my pants). Great hours. Negatives: There have been machines with out of order signs for over two years. The parking in the back is nice but rat infested so beware-you will see rats hanging around as early as 8am... probably because of next door pizza shop, old unkept dumpsters and poor building management. No charging outlets/ No air conditioning/ No attendant in the mornings or early afternoons which means people will sort sort and dump dirty clothes in laundry carts, and use folding tables to spot treat dirty items or store suitcases or laundry bags that have been dragged on the ground and lord knows where else...wish management would put up multiple and clear signage explaining laundry etiquette. read more

This laundromat could be so much more. I have been using this laundromat as it is the closest to my residence and other laundromat in the area closed. Issues: 1. This laundromat has had multiple price increases over a 1 1/2 year period; and now costs $3.50 for a normal top load machine wash, while the extra large front loaders cost $7.00. 2. This laundromat can be very busy at the times that I can do my weekly laundry and a struggle to access washers/dryers. I have noticed that some people leave the premises while clothes are drying and come back long after the machine has completed the wash/dry cycle. Thus leaving other customers having to wait for an open washer/dryer. 3. I do not recommend using this laundromat on Saturday mornings as there is an older woman that uses about 40% to 50% of the washers and/or dryers at any one time (I think she is running her laundry business out of this laundromat). This causes frustration on me and other customers who want to do their own laundry. 4. There always seem to be some washers and dryers out of service; many times the front loader washing machines near the back of the laundromat. There seems to always be 4- 6 dryers out of service at any time which is up to 23% of the dryers installed. read more

Not so much a review as a thank you! I just moved to the area in September and have been to the Clothesline a few times. It's very practical if you live in the area and there are always open machines, etc. The reason I am writing this review is to say thank you! Last night I was doing laundry there and I left my bag. I mean my entire bag with everything I own in it, including my wallet and work laptop. I panicked once I realized I had done this (over an hour later) and I called to see if it was still there. Not only did the manager ( I am so sorry I forgot his name!) have my bag but he had spent part of the night trying to Google my number to find me! He also offered to drive the bag to my apartment so I wouldn't have to walk back in the rain. I just want to thank him! It really turned a not so pleasant experience into a pleasant one. read more
