I've never had any issues with this laundromat up to this point- the posted hours say until 10pm daily I was denied starting a load (just wash no dry- I was cut off before I could even get that far) at 8:40pm. I've been coming here a few months now & have seen many people walk in with loads as late as 9pm and not be turned away. These patrons seem to be friendly with the man that works here. This seems highly discriminatory in my opinion. read more

My wife and I just moved to the area about a week ago and needed to do laundry desperately (yes we actually moved dirty laundry to the new place). This place is right down the street from us, so we decided to check it out The washers and dryers are top notch. They are large, energy efficient, clean and work great. It's $2.50 per wash (this is a great price) and you have several options in terms of temperature and other washing options The dryers are very efficient as well -- you can add a quarter for I believe every 8 minutes of drying time you want. 54 minutes dried a large load very well. The owner is friendly and is committed to keeping the place clean. He was cleaning up when I was taking my laundry out, was very friendly and said "Thank You" as I walked out the door. This goes a long way in my book Other pluses are a change machine (perfect for when you forgot to bring all your quarters), LCD TV's on the wall (I went on Sunday and caught some of the football game while I was switching over the loads), large, very clean folding tables (brand new -- looked spotless when I got there) as well as laundry carts to move your laundry from the washer to the dryer and so on All in all, this place is great. I hate doing laundry. But I hate it a lot less since I started coming to Spin Cycle this past summer. A friend of mine has been coming here for a while and recommended it to me. Although my previous laundromat is closer to my apartment, I am much happier going a little bit farther to wash my clothes in a space that is clean, bright and uncluttered. Just as others have mentioned, Spin Cycle is extremely clean, the machines are top notch, the prices are reasonable, and the attendants are pleasant and helpful. Every time I've been here someone is either cleaning the floor or wiping down the machines. I also love that it's coin-op and has a change machine. I always misplace those re-loadable cards or end up leaving a balance behind when I move. So coin-op is a big plus to me. Most recently, I was in this past Sunday - first time doing laundry here on a Sunday - and there was a woman working that I have not seen on weekdays. I was looking at some of my clothes to pre-treat a few items and she came over and asked if I needed help with the machine. I told her that I didn't have a question about the machine, but was looking at a couple of stains on my clothes. She immediately offered to take a look if I wanted, and was able to recommend a way to treat the stains. She also gave me a couple of hints to prevent the stains from really setting in before "laundry day." Very helpful and friendly. As an aside, I was really surprised by the negative review. Kind of shocked, actually. All I can say is that I have never had a problem, the attendants have always been courteous and helpful, and I've never witnessed any issues in the 6+ months I've been coming here. I am extremely pleased with both the attendants and the machines, and wouldn't hesitate recommending it to a friend. --- July Update -- Given the hot, humid weather lately, I wanted to update my original review with two words: AIR CONDITIONING! Hands down, the best laundry mat I've been to. The place is great. The guy that runs the place is a pro. It's super clean, with enough seats and machines that you shouldn't have to wait at all. I read some of the other reviews before I went over and I agree with each one. I kept the cleanliness in mind as I walked in to get some laundry done and I was just blown away. I hate laundry day just like everyone else and a little while ago I used to pack all my stuff in the trunk and go do laundry at the laundromat on Temple st. After they opened Spin Cycle Laundromat I figured that I'd give it a try and also stay close to my house doing laundry. One thing I noticed that they keep this place very clean, all day long there is a guy cleaning after ppl that do laundry. Rates are no more expensive than the other place, and after going a few times you almost feel like home. Maybe it's a bit too much, but you'll feel cozy going there. I like going here to do laundry, and I would recommend it to anyone! P.S. related to stuff left behind after hour in the dryer, I always find my stuff there, the next day. read more

Probably the cleanest laundromat I have ever seen!!! They have somebody who watches and cleans the laundromat during the business hours. The place is spotless!!! The machines are very good and nothing is broken! WOW. To wash and dry your clothes you can be in and out in 1 hr 10 minutes - that's really fast!!! I'm unsure of what to rate this place as I love the services they provide and the laundromat itself; prices are reasonable, parking is decent, coin machine and a business with atm nearby. The problem I have with Spin Cycle is the constant group of people chain smoking cigarettes right outside the door...I made a comment about it once and it was not received well, or even at all... Besides the fact that it violates Somerville's business code, it's just plain gross. I'm coming to this business to CLEAN my clothes, not to inhale your secondhand smoke and stink up my clothes. Not sure if the smokers outside are patrons, management, or just random people, but it seems to be a constant social group out there. I'm attempting to contact management, and hope this is something that can be remedied, as I've seen previous reviews that echo this sentiment. read more

Went here today (Oct 2013) and I have to say, THIS PLACE IS SO CLEAN I WOULD EAT OFF OF ANY OF THERE MACHINES!!! Parking could be a little tough here. There is a 5-minute loading spot, all the other ones are $.25 for 15 minutes-God I hate you Somerville!!! Don't risk a ticket in the Ville-they are on top of that in most Ville-hoods. The intersection is also hella-busy. Price wise-they actually charge $.25 extra to use warm or hot water-I guess this makes sense. 25 lb washers are $2.50 and $5 for the 60 lb load machines for cold washes. I didn't use the driers but I think they are $.25 for 5 minutes. I also saw a older white man cleaning up and holding the doors open for people (me included YAY!!!) and it was nice to feel like I could communicate with the man if I needed help. I honestly don't care about race, but I do care about feeling like I could speak with him if necessary and I have had mixed results at my laundry place. In short, while parking is tricky and the location isn't easy the cleanliness and the fact that have Wifi and a nice guy holding doors open, I like the place and will return. read more

I hate going to the laundromat with a passion. For the last four years I have lived in apartments with laundry in the building. Until now that is. Recently I moved to the Winter Hill area to a fabulous 2 bedroom apartment with a great landlord. The only drawback? No laundry in the building. So this morning I dragged myself to the highest rated laundromat in walking distance of new apartment. In this cas it was Spin Cycle. This place is spotless and by that I mean immaculate. The older gentleman who attends the facilty seems gruff at first glance but he turned out to be quite nice in his own way. He traded me some bills from his own billfold when he noticed the change machine was picking a fight with me and my $5. The prices are pretty standard as far as laundromats go and there are a number of different weighted machines to choose from. This is where I will be coming back moving forward. Probably the best laundromat I have EVER been to. The guy who runs the place is a consummate professional; constantly tidying up, cleaning, etc. The interior is ridiculously clean, which for me, is somewhat of a harbinger for laundromats. It's also quiet, and features magazines and a nice flat screen tv playing at reasonable volume in case you want to read. The machines are new, and there are several sizes available; all of which are very reasonably priced. Overall I am extremely pleased with this outfit and highly recommend it. read more

I normally really love this laundromat. I gave it 5-stars before because the proprietor is so nice and he keeps the place really clean. He's a pleasant person to be around, and it's pleasant to be in there. He even opens the door when I come in, and when I leave. He is a true gentleman. The washing machines and dryers are great and it is normally a positive experience. It's a lot cheaper there than the other laundromat I used to go to, which is great. Because of this, it really pains me to change my review because he's so nice, if it weren't for my most recent experience, which involved Vinny, when the proprietor wasn't present. (Based on the proprietor's strong character, if he was there, I know this would have never happened.) I went in there to fold my laundry and he had a friend in there with him, with whom he was talking with very loudly. He was being disruptive. He stood in front of the chairs with his friend, where people were sitting and both of them reeked of cigarettes. They really stunk up the place, considering how clean it normally is. Folding my clean laundry while they were 10 feet away from me was disgusting. Vinny was using foul language as well as using the n-word at least once. I felt very uncomfortable being there and couldn't wait to leave. I feel really badly lowering my review, but the fact that Vinny works there lowers it to 2-stars. If I hadn't had this bad experience, I would have no complaints at all. Like I said, the proprietor is very kind and respectful and he truly makes it a great place to do your laundry. 5 STAR QUALITY LAUNDROMAT!! I was totally frantic yesterday and the owner John was SO friendly. He helped me tremendously. I was able to get all my loads done for the Airbnb I needed to clean sheets for. A of the machines were FAST and CLEAN! For 4 loads, I was in and out in under 1.5 hours! Very clean and impeccably maintained. An employee is always there cleaning constantly. The first time I was there I saw an employee take out the trash three times. In 90 mins, three times. It also may be the only laundromat where I have avoided cringing when a sock falls on the way to the dryer, largely because they sweep constantly. Prices are comparable if not cheaper than other local places, and machines are also very well maintained. The only downside is the lack of a sink to hand wash or pretreat anything but it just takes a little extra planning. read more

The first time I came here, I could understand the appeal, the facility is maintained with machines of various sizes. However, maintenance should not come at the expense of your clothing. The owner routinely follows customers around cleaning up over the tiniest detergent spill- even after you've done your due diligence to clean up. Today the owner obnoxiously sprayed WD40 INTO my washer detergent dispenser after I cleaned up a tiny spill with paper towels immediately after I spilled! NO need for that. read more

Best Laundromat I have ever been to in my life. I just moved from NY and last week was my first experience here. I came in about 9 at night which is way after the last wash as its listed on the door. I was affraid the young man working would turn me away but out of surprise not only did he let me do a full 60lb wash but helped carry my fresh clothes to the car. The place is spotless, this young man is the terminater to cleaning and he is very polite, opening and closing doors for customers. I was again in there tonight, was some what busy around 8 830 and still he mated to clean and assist customers.I've only seen one other gentleman in there morning time who is also polite but quiet and curtious. The guy that works here is super friendly and held the door open for me when I was struggling with my laundry to the door, and helped me when I had a question about something. The place itself is clean and everything is in working condition. It has a soda machine and a tv for your downtime. Totally aggravating and ridiculous experience today. The first time I went there could not figure out why I spent the double I used to spend in another laundry nearby for drying the clothes. This time, since I was not so tired, decided to pay more attention and check how wet the clothes were coming out of the washing machine. It happened that the jeans pants were all super wet. The machine was 2/3 full, therefore it was not too full, so I could not be blamed for it.. I called the man who works there and showed him the pants. He said that was completely normal. I twisted the jeans using my hands and the water was dripping on the floor from the pants right in front of him. I asked him if honestly he could say that the machine was doing a proper spin (yes, I did use the word honestly). He said it was normal and left me talking to myself. I could just pay the double again for the drying and told him I was not going there again. Needless to say he did not care at all. I simply do not understand how this laundry could be voted the best one in such and such year as stated on its back wall. Totally disappointed and aggravated. read more

This place just opened a month or so ago and I decided to give it a try this week. As far as laundromats go, this one is great. First, the prices are better than the other laundromats in this area. The machines are all new and the dryers actually dry your clothes without having to keep adding more time. It's very clean and the owner seems very dedicated to keeping it clean - I've seen him cleaning the floors when I pass by. The air conditioning also actually works! I didn't need to wait for machines and was able to use a folding table without a problem. I was very pleased and plan to go back. read more

There are enough machines of different sizes (which has really saved me some quarters doing one enormous load instead of 2+ normal loads), I have never waited longer than 5min, in fact I'm usually the only one there! read more

Did my laundry here for the first time Sun night and it is awesome. First off the place is immaculate. The machines are new, plenty of seats and a flat screen TV. I was able to watch some football and get my laundry done. It does not get any better than this! Place also has great prices. I WAS a regular customer here, in fact it's not even the closest laundry mat to me (there are at LEAST 4 others in the immediate area), but I went out of my way to do business there, lugged my @ 30 lb bag uphill 5 minutes away from my house further down Broadway. But I absolutely REFUSE to set foot in there ever again after the very WORST customer service experience I've EVER had, which I'll detail in this review. Yes, the place is very clean, & yes, the owner is a nice enough genleman, but I recieved THE most HORRID customer service there recently when, alone in the place, upon a simple, polite, & reasonable request that his employee (and nephew, Vinny) please shut the door that he had propped open because I was cold (it was the end of Nov. & despite it being a mild winter there were still chilly nights) not only was I refused, twice, but I was yelled vigourously at by this employee when I went to shut the door myself, told to get out, & he threatened to call the cops on me, despite the fact that I'd done nothing illegal! I was so furious! This man claimed that I, in his words, "bitch & moan every time I come in there," (though firstly, most of the time I never say "boo" to him when I'm there, but keep to myself & just do what I'm there for, to do my laundry, & secondly I asked him ONCE, & politely, if he could turn the TV down as there was no one in the place & no one was watching it, so I could read my book undisturbed, & thirdly it's usually his uncle that's there when I'm there, so I rarely even see him)! Neither one of these were unreasonable requests! His claim was that he needed the door open to dry the floors that he was mopping (though I observed that only the smallest thin sliver of the floor had been mopped). I thought this was insane! Here was a PAYING customer (who pays HIS paycheck) who was uncomfortable in his place of business, & his ONLY concern was for a small section of the floor that was, at best, damp. I raised the point with him after he started yelling at me that, "In the middle of the winter when it's snowing & blowing TRUELY freezing out, SURELY you don't prop the doors open THEN?! And it's not like the air all of a sudden disappears when you close the door!? A vacuum is not created! The floors will dry just fine with the doors closed"! This man was beyond pig-headed and blamed ME for being cold, "If you're so cold, then why are you dressed only in a T-shirt?!" To which I responded, "I'm WASHING my coat in your machines, idiot!" (You start yelling at me, I sure as hell am NOT going to take that lying down! This was NO way to be treating a PAYING customer! 20 years in Customer Service has taught me this, & clearly this man was completely clueless!) I ended up removing my wet clothes from the dryer with 13 minutes left,& still sans coat which was among my wet clothes, dragged my clothes to friend's house 20 minutes away at 10 pm to finish drying them! I was SO angry to the point of crying! And as I was leaving he was on the phone with his uncle claiming that HE was being verbally abused! "Some lady was verbally abusuing him!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I was a regular there & now I'm just, "some lady?!" Now HE was trying to play the victim card to justify his behavior!? I was outraged! To make matters worse, later that week, this Vinny saw me at the local Rite Aid, & went out of his way, intentionally sought me out in the parking lot to harass and antigonize me further! SO COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! You just don't do something like that! What decent person does that?! I felt vicimized by this man, & all because of a simple request to shut the door when I was cold! Well I, for one refuse to be victimized by some jerk like this! You don't have to go to Harvard Business School to know that Business 101 teaches that you don't piss off your customers because they will spread the word, & your bottom line suffers! So the bottom line here is, is that it really makes NO difference if the place is so clean that you can eat off the floor, when the customer service is absolute S**T! Like I said before, the owner is a nice man, but nepotism has no place in business & his nephew should be fired & learn what REAL work is (I've worked as a housekeeper, & I can tell you that keeping such a small place like this clean doesn't take all THAT much strenuous effort)! And until he is I suggest you take your hard-earned money elsewhere. There are PLENTY of other laundrymats in the area to patronize! Respecting customer's basic needs isn't brain surgery! I just have to wonder how many other people he's treated this way that have not voiced their experiences, or have been bullied out of doing so. P.S. I've notated that one day later someone voted this review as "funny". I've no doubt in my mind that it was the very man, Vinny, that did so; that is JUST the kind of misogynistic and childish thing this putz would do.
